"tanger med"
it was not possible to know that our ferry came into the commercial shipping port and we were actually 30 miles from tangier. we had to pay a large taxi fee to get where we were going.
"Espagne maroc"
Bon prix mais attention cette compagnie n arrive pas au port de Tanger centre ville il faut faire un 50mn de voiture et débourser 400dirham le trajet à considérer dans le choix
"No help for handicapped "
We crossed from Algeciras to Tanger-Med and back early in June 2019. The crossings were late but otherwise ok. The ferry on the return journey was much worse. My complaint is that shortly before the crossings I injured my right knee and had considerable difficulty and pain walking. There were absolutely no facilities available to help me and no one responded to my requests for help. It was an unnecessarily painful experience. A week earlier I had flown with a cheap airline to Poland and wheelchairs were arranged with no problem. The ferry service should warn passengers that it is not suitable for people with mobility problems.
"Didn’t go exactly to plan...."
Ok, so just had an email to write a review of my experience, so here goes. Going out to Tangier Med was an experience, I’m not even sure the ferry company and the port have ever spoken to each other, so the organisation seemed a little unusual. Coming back was slightly more interesting, as they cancelled the ferry when we got there because it was Ramadan. We were told to return to the office in 3 hours to see if they’d be going, which we did and there was no news. In the end, after spending 5 hours at the port we bought a ticket with a different company and made the crossing, arriving 6 hours after our ticket.... and as for a refund, seems everyone suddenly stopped being able to speak English. My advice, tread with extreme care, only spend what you’re prepared to lose and have a plan b.
"Direct Ferries booked us on an itinerary that didn't exist!!!"
We booked 2 single journey, foot passenger only trips from Algeciras - Tangier Med and Tangier Med - Algeciras with Direct Ferries in January 2019 for travel 12 March 2019 and 14 March 2019. The reason I booked 2 single journeys vs round trip was that the round trip itineary choices on Direct Ferries did not allow me to book my preferred ferry travel times, whereas the single journey itineraries did. DF also stated that check in was minimum 2 hours before sailing, and the journey time was 1.5 hours, but arrival at Tangier Med was only .5 hours after departure, as there was a 1 hour time difference between Spain and Morocco (note that the return journey did NOT reflect this...) Day before traveling, I received a message from DF that my ferry was scheduled for the following day, and we confirmed this online. When we arrived at the port - a little over 2 hours before scheduled departure - we were told that we were too early, and it would be 1 hour before we could check in. Grrr! Upon boarding, we noted It was a very shabby ship, old, dank, and with next to no one aboard... The ferry was late departing and so consequently, late arriving. and lo and behold, upon arrival we discover that there IS NO TIME DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPAIN AND MOROCCO (!!!) so our pre-booked taxi had left almost 2 hours previous and would not return, causing us to eat our 15 quid deposit, arrive hours later to our hotel, and miss our dinner reservation as there was not time to clean up and make our booking time! Double GRRRR! But I digress... In any case, given the demonstrated stupidity of DF, while at Tangier Med, we thought it best to re-confirm our return journey with Transmediterrea. And guess what? THERE WAS NO FERRY OPERATED BY TRANSMEDITERREA [or any other of the carriers] SAILING ON THE ITINERARY DIRECT FERRIES BOOKED US ON!!!! DF booked us on a non-existent ship, at a non-existent time!!! DOUBLED DOUBLE GRRR!!! By now I am seriously angry, and so I rang DF directly. What a waste of time! All we got was ooh, so sorry, not our fault, we're just a much a victim as you all are, we'll refund you and email you confirmation of said refund - which it should be noted, we've yet to receive days later... But, hey, wanna know what we did receive from DF? A TEXT FROM DF ON WED 13 MARCH, REMINDING US THAT OUR FERRY WAS DEPARTING THE FOLLOWING DAY ...YEAH, A TEXT CONFIRMING A RESERVATION CANCELLED THE PREVIOUS DAY ON A FERRY THAT DID NOT EXIST... We'll NEVER EVER book with Direct Ferries again. Nor should anyone...
"Resent trip "
Well would not recommend this ferry company there time keeping was so bad we left over 5 late and the return was over a hour late to the ferry needs to scrap is was in a poor state would not use them again
"Didnt get to tangiers!"
So basically there was no facility to stamp our passport on the ship so we were not allowed into morocco!! Luckily the captain and a couple of very kind staff allowed us to stay aboard for a policeman who never came and then allowed us to sail back. A very stressfull 7 hours to get no where!!
"We want our money back! "
We are absolutely disgusted with the "service" and "product" of direct ferries. Firstly. They write on your booking that you need to be there 120 min in advance. This was a waste of our time, as they didn't even open up for check in until less than 60 min before departure when we travelled from Spain to Morocco. On arriving in the habour of Tangier med, to take our 13 o clock ferry back to Spain, we discover that the departure has been cancelled and we have to wait until the next departure at 17! We never received any notification that the ferry had been cancelled whatsoever. When we asked the staff at Transmediterenea they just shrugged and said it was direct ferries who had the blame. They also told us this ferry departure had not been running for 10 days. Which means direct ferries must have had plenty of time to notify us. We needed to be back in Spain for a certain time, so waiting until 17 was not an option. So we had to book new tickets with another company which cost us 70€ We want our money back and we will not be booking through direct ferries again!
"Worst experience of my life "
After booking our return trip from Algeciras to Tanger med weeks in advance I was highly disappointed with the service I received. Our ferry with Transmeditiarria was due to depart from Tanger med at 7pm on the 15th of October, so as it said on the booking we arrived promptly at 5:30pm in order to board this ferry. However, on arrival we were soon notified that our ferry had in fact been cancelled. We were given no formal notification of this. This then resulted in a 5 hour wait in the port followed by an extra hour waiting on the ferry for it too depart. This was 6 hours of waiting in total. We found this extremely unprofessional on Transmeditiarria’s behalf as we were given no compensation for this enormous inconvenience nor were we notified about the cancellation in advance. It is for these reasons that I would not travel with Transmeditiarria ever again or recommend thier services to anyone who asked for my opinion. This is due to Transmeditiarria’s lack of organisational skills and ability to coordinate and communicate with staff effectively to achieve an accurate time schedule for thier clients.
"Delayed Boat"
Really bad experience with this company, the boat was delayed for two hours without any compensation and without any information about the status of the boat.
"Terrible experience "
Everything about this trip was awful - the process of getting everyone in and off the boat and the wait to get the passport stamp was ridiculous. Very unsafe to have such big crowds all waiting at once rather than taking in groups of people at a time. It also left 2 hours later and the trip was over an hour longer than it said.
"was sold ticket for a ferry which did not exist"
5am ferry supposed to move from Aljesiras to tangier Med. I reached at 3.30am only to be told that the ferry did not exist. not cancelled - just did not exist! all meetings in Casablanca thrown in turmoil. Next ferry supposed to reach at 8.30 finally landed in Tangier Med at 9.30am!!
"Necessary, but not the best experience"
Booking information supplied by Direct Ferries said check in 120 minutes before sailing for foot passengers. Check in doesn’ t open till 30 minutes before sailing. Sailed 45 minutes late. No announcements. Persuaded to pre-buy reserved seat. Completely unnecessary. I had a table and six seats to myself. Never did find reserved seat area. Seat almost unnecessary anyway as most people spent 40 minutes or so of the crossing standing in a queue for onboard passport checks. Great views of Gibraltar. No explanation of arrival procedure, for instance bus to customs check. Taxi and currency touts abound. Use credit card machines, never money exchange companies. Taxis are outside the main gate with the free bus to Tangier. Touts want extra for showing you where it is. Standard taxi price is 25 Euro (on a board at the taxi ‘rank’). The opening offer was 60 Euro; it is 50+Kms.
"Really dissappinted with the delay"
The ferry was delayed for 1 hour and we lost our bus to return. In my humble opinion Transmediterranea should compensate their fails.
"Late, too long to be there in advance 2h !!!!"
It is seriously too long to have to be there 2h in advance. And we have leave 1h late. So I have my reservations car In Spain. I had to wait 2h for the break to be done. And get my car
"Good crossing but.."
Tangier Med is an appalling destination if you’re going to Tangier town. Soulless, miles from anywhere and Algeciras is not much better. If I could have found a ferry direct to Tangier from Gibraltar on the day I was travelling I’d have taken that. Direct Ferries state that you need to be at the departure terminal not less than 2 hours before sailing. This is nonsense, if you’re a foot passenger booked in advance. 15 mins would be fine. There was a technical issue with the ship so we were an hour late leaving - OK, stuff happens and better safe than sunk. Oddly the most positive thing I remember was the multiple phone/ iPad charger in the lounge. Very useful.
"Week break in Tanger"
The crossing was fine both ways. The ship was clean both ways. The food was ok. The ship was 1.5 hours late leaving outward journey. The ship was 2 hours late leaving on return journey
"Late departure"
Travelled to and fro via ferry. On both occassions ferry left late from the port ( 2hrs late from spain and 1hr late from morroco ) Therefore leave plenty of time between ferry arrival and any other time restricted travel ( ie flights) Apart from that all else was fine
"A bit of a circus, but got us there in the end"
After rushing to get to the airport and park (which was another story), we arrived downstairs and showed Trasmediterranea our e-ticket. Fearing we were going to be late (the ticket info informed us that we should arrive at least an hour before), we were told to visit counter 2 upstairs. with few people around and all counters closed I first wondered if I had missed the ferry. As the time passed, way past the scheduled departure time, the room filled and became a chaotic scene with no queuing system, and no one at hand to give out information. Most travelers were Moroccans and most of them, and their kids, had no respect for any kind of queuing system that managed to establish. The few foreigners taking the trip looking completely lost and confused. Word of mouth spread that the 8am ferry was late. Eventually someone turned up around 9am , and someone came out and told us to queue to register for the ferry. We then headed for security where we were pushed into a forceful wave of eager Moroccan travelers, trying to squeeze in front of anyone in front of themselves. I did find at least one Moroccan that understood that we were all getting on the same boat ! All in all, it was a total nightmare, but the service got us there eventually and was very good value. If you don't mind mad and manic adventures you will be ok. Foreigners have to fill out a form that will be handed out as you go on board and then you have to queue in one of the the café areas for the police to stamp your passport. This is not very well explained but you need to do that before the ferry arrives into Port.
"2 hours late and made us miss our car rental"
We were not even informed when our ferry left 2 hours late. It made us amiss the last car rental and had us scurrying to figure out transportation.
"Delayed..."
Significant delay leaving Tangier Med port and no announcement or helpful staff to let us know how long we expected to be delayed. Luckily we overheard some Spaniards translating to an English speaking couple so we had an idea what was going on. Smooth sailing otherwise and faster transit time once we left than predicted. Aft deck not open which was very disappointing though.
"Hurry up and Wait"
Well, all well that ends well. I love Direct Ferries for making it easier to buy tickets. However, Trasmediterranea needs some help. Direct Ferries told me to be there 2 hours prior to departure, and I did. I waited and waited. Each time I went to the man guarding the door to the buses which bring passengers to the ferry, he told me wait. They were just loadind the buses at 4PM for the 3:30 ferry, he told me. I was horrified and afraid that he was making this up so I snuck on a bus to get somewhere close to my ferry. I arrived at the piers and aksed for the Transmediterranea. The police officer directed me in the right direction. Another police officer checked my passport and ticket and allowed me on the ferry. It was so clean and calm in comparison to the waiting room and fight to on the bus. But then we waited and waited and waited. Finally we were off. We were supposed to arrive at 6:30 in Algeciras. I was to take the 10:00 bus to Madrid. I feared getting stuck in Algeciras without a place to stay. We arrived in Algeciras at 10:10 local time. I was again horrified. Amazingly , the bus had not left yet. I ran to buy a ticket and the clerk refused to sell it saying he had closed the counter. The bus driver refused to take me without a ticket. I had to watch the bus leave me stranded, all because the ferry was God-awful late. I paid $40 Euro cash to board a crowded, and loud Moroccan bus to Madrid. You can't imagine. Despite all this, I will have to take the ferry again. But i will travel in the mornings with plenty of time to adjust to their poor scheduling.
"Good ferry, but delayed and difficult transfer "
The ferry was delayed 4 hours, and my destination was therefore changed from Tanger med to Ceuta. I was told this was easy enough with taxis and buses waiting. But traveling alone to Tanger at night through Ceuta was nothing close to easy. Luckily I found a helpful Moroccan man on the way, but I would recommend Transmediteranea to make a better system and a borcheure or something if they reroute people through Ceuta. Boat was very good.
"Algercias to Tanger Med"
Ferry cancelled from 1700hrs to 2000hrs. That operated late and did not leave untill 2130hrs. Finally docking 2330hrs in Tanger Med. Got to our hotel at 0100hrs. Not satisfied at all.
"Absolute Nightmare "
I honestly do not know where to begin in writing this review, and where to focus my sincere anger and frustration with your company. Beyond the horrendous, outdated condition of the ship, the poor customer service and overall lack of apathy from staff, this entire experience was an utter nightmare. However, above all the factors I could highlight as horrendous, the most blatant issue to highlight was the fact your ship left 3 hours late, ultimately causing me to miss my flight from Malaga back to London. The domino effect this tardiness caused not only caused severe emotional distress and anxiety, but added an additional 400 Euros onto my trip for the cost of an additional one way flight back to London and another night's hotel in Malaga while we waited. To be fair, and looking back on the instance, the entire debacle was almost a comedy that I wish I would've filmed (my boyfriend did get footage which I will attach to my follow-up escalation enquiry), but the fact the ship was late due to a public brawl between passengers, ship crew and port staff for all passengers to see was not only mind-blowing in its sloppy, inefficient and distasteful manner it was conducted, by the sheer lack of regard for other passengers on the ship. Once the "dispute" was finally settled (after hours of shouting, pushing and shoving on the boat dock from the said passengers livid they could not take their travel bus on the ship), I was past the point of no return. It is bad enough you not only delay a ship 3 hours due to this disorganised, chaotic process you clearly have in checking cargo, but your ships do not even have credit or debit payment options, which meant we had to be stuck for a total of 5 hours on your vessel with no water or food since we had no Euro (though we were coming from Morocco where the currency is dirham). Furthermore, when we pleaded to either have questions answered on the delay or the possibility of complimentary water, the staff's apathy and ability to speak to us in English (only Arabic or Spanish) was laughable; if not cruel. Lastly, but certainly not the least, was how no apology or explanation was given by staff, the captain or terminal staff during this entire ordeal, and had it not been for a borderline revolt from passengers once the ship had left, no documentation or claim forms would have been issued to us either. You will no doubt hear from me in a follow-up enquiry as this issue will not go unresolved without payment and reimbursement, and consider this the opening note of my complaint. While in no way a justification for your poor service, I look forward to hearing any and all explanation you might have for this absolute nightmare of an experience that is sadly one I will never forget; and that is not a compliment. In more simpler terms: your company and crew who manages the 16:00 ferry from Tangier to Algerciras can go fuck itself, and you'll be hearing from me very soon. Gracias :)
"Service was OK"
Ferry was not as late as last time but still late. Crossing was smooth and good coffee on board. Ferry was a bit tired and needs renovation.
"Shit "
Your company is shit, service is shit, never ever again
"Worst choice of transport"
Delayed 3 hours going out with no communication whatsoever. Waited a very long time to then depart from the port. Lost a whole day because of this on my holiday. Coming back I was delayed 2 hours but luckily gave myself enough time to make it back for my flight having experienced the departure with this company
"Quick and efficient"
The ferry was quick, and our visas processing was quick and easy.
"Crossing the Med"
A pleasant ferry, good seating and open spaces. Keeping to schedule is not it's best point.
"A trip to Morocco "
It was a trip to morocco, so we had the "normal" difficulties in the border with the papers, so in the the return trip, despite we arrived one hour earlier, as it was said in the papers, it wasn't enough, and we loose the ship and need to wait almost 4 hours for the next one. Apart this, no other trouble. The boat was clean and comfortable for the purpose.
"Very pleasant trip"
Staff was friendly and professional ship appaeared clean and we'll maintained
"A smooth ride to Tangier"
The ship is a big older one, not a high-speed catamaran. But it gets you there. Trasmediterranea required a minimum of one hour arrival before departure. But the booth downstairs only opened one half hour before departure. Then I found out I had to go upstairs to get my ticket. The lack of information and signage was frustrating.
"What a horror trip"
The way there was more or less okay, the ferry was nice and calm but left over 1h 30 minutes late from the port in Algeciras. Apart from that, a parking is announced on the website without location or any further details. Also inside the port it is rather hard to navigate by car. The food on the ferry is good, the seating places are comfy and people in general are nice and helpful. It was our first trip and we didn't know anything about how this works or immigration forms. The signs in the terminal are non existent, there are no warnings or what so ever on the ferry stating that you require a stamp in your passport and no hand outs or anything stated on the website. We ended up leaving the ferry almost right before it left back to Spain waiting to get our stamp. The website states that Tanger Med is shortly outside the city, it is a 40 min Bus trip! The travel back to Spain was a terror, we had to wait 2 hours in the waiting queue for secutiry control, another 1h 30min outside the terminal until a Bus took us to the ferry. After another 1h 30 min waiting on the ferry we finally left. Instead of 1:30 am, we arrived in Algeciras at 6:30!!!!! Do take the ferry from Tarifa, DO NOT TAKE A FERRY FROM ALGECIRAS!!!!
"Safe but delayed"
Customs and boarding process was very slow, there was a delay of 1.5 hours which made it very frustrating, especially as this boat was very big and had lots of trucks being loaded. The return though was much better as it was a smaller ship.
"Algeciras-Tangier"
The journey itself was very good. Only, the departure and arrival times weren’t exactly correct. There were people who had been waiting for a long time. We were supposed to travel at 2pm but after checking in it was changed to 1pm, and we were not informed about this change. By coincidence, we were able to travel one hour earlier. The lady at the check-in desk was not professional. Best regards, Dorine
"Ok but late!"
Ship was due to depart at 17.00. It didn't arrive until 17.25 and by the time it unloaded and reloaded with us and all the trucks with and without the tractor units we set sail at 18.40 the trip and the unloading went OK.
"Algesiras Tanger Med crossing"
The crossing was perfect and almost on time. The boat was clean and the staff competent.
"Getting to Morocco"
The first boat was an hour late and the return was cancelled with no prior notice. There was very little food on the voyage and what there was was poor quality and very expensive.
"Eyebrows "
It is not the ferry's fault if it is delayed but the port's. The captain always lets them know his arrival time. The ship is the best I have seem. It is the only one with a twin. The trip was quiet, food and cleanliness good. Perfect punctuality.

"It's very good "
Dad, I barely see you but you are the best and I am proud of you for being the captain. Don't listen to anybody. It is not your fault if you are delayed because there is another ship in the dock.
"Algercias, Spain to Tangier Med Morocco"
It was a nice round trip ride, very affordable. Everything was easy and handled well.
"Algeciras - Tanger med"
Our Tansmediterranea ferry left late and arrived even later. Boat quality adequate.
"Nice quiet crossing"
Signs to the ferry were poor in Algeciras. We arrived one hour before and were the first there - though we were advised the check-in time was over an hour. They secured our motorcycles well on the ferry which was clean. The ship left an hour late.
"will think again next time.."
The ship was fantastic, a little late getting off but got me there safely and I was happy with the service! The ONLY thing I will think about again is departing from Tangier MED! I booked this ticket first assuming Tangier MED was in Tangier! It's not! its a 200Dh 45 minute taxi ride away, and with making my booking early it was a bit hit and miss i would arrive on time. When I returned to Morocco I did it a bit different, took a fast ship from Calcutta directly to Tangier and a 5 minute taxi from Tangier port to the train station/city. I was staying in Algeciras however 1hr before your departure from Calcutta there is a free shuttle bus from outside the Algeciras terminal (20 minutes but nice and air conditioned) takes you to Calcutta terminal then a fast boat to Tangier :) Also if you are doing it the other way around go to Tangier get the boat to Calcutta and the free shuttle bus will take you to Algeciras.
"Serious"
A good experience A serious company, a nice reception and a good information. I would recommend it.
"No schedule compliance "
Last month we travelled to Morocco with Transmediterranea and I must say there is no compliance with the schedule at all. We departed with an hour delay and we arrived two and a half hours late. Other than that, everything was correct.
"Great trip"
A hassle free and smooth trip from Morocco to Spain. We did however go to the wrong port, and did not realise the port was so far out of Tangier, ensure you leave plenty of time to get to the ferry. The ferry does not accept Dirham, so ensure you spend up before getting on the ship, and take Euro with you if you want a coffee. Definitely recommend this company.
"My thoughts"
2 hour delay and the ferry needs renovating.
"Great trip!"
Just a great trip between continents! :)
"Trasmediterranea Ferry to Tangier Med "
First - the ferry goes to Tangier Med which is about a 1-hour bus ride from Tangier. The bus costs about 3 euros. We got a cab ride back for 20 euros (4 people). The bus dumps you off in the middle of the city where you will be accosted by people trying to show you around - for a fee. DirectFerries said the trip would be 30 minutes - it was three hours. The ferry had a bad odor in the main room. The return ferry was much better and only took an hour. Overall, the ferry ride was acceptable, but I would recommend trying to find one that goes directly to Tangier.
"Algeciras ferry"
Very good crossing, will use again soon.
"Comfortable accomodations, but inefficient"
For the price, I was impressed with the services available on the ferry. The seats were comfortable and there were reasonably priced food. However, the ferry left 2 HOURS later than the departure time indicated on the ticket. This caused my friends and me to be late for our train, which we booked with 2.5 hours between our supposed arrival time and the train departure time. This left me with the impression that the ferry company does not value its customers and is not reliable for timely transportation. I would only recommend using the ferry if you have a lot of time to spare on the travel day. In fact I would give the ship punctuality a rating of "0 stars" if I could.
"Delayed"
Avoid this one if you're in a hurry. We were delayed by 2 hours in each direction.
"Tangier Med - Algeciras"
The departure was at 3pm instead of 1pm. Crossing itself was on time. The ferry was in a good condition and doesn't get cleaned on a daily basis. Toelets were ok though.
"Delay delay delay!"
Already on our outward journey from Algeciras to Tangier-Med the ship was 1 1/2 hours late. It was on the return trip where this was further increased. There they were 2 hours late. Also, I haven't taken a dilapidated ship like this for years.
"Horrible experience"
Opposite of punctual (outbound and inbound both late by at least 2-3 hours) NOBODY (literally not a single member of staff) speaks English The only good thing is that it gets you from point A to B, but the way it does it.. will never do that again. Thanks to DirectFerries though, the whole booking process was easy but the cheap price was cheap for a reason
"Great crossing for dogs!"
I was worried about taking my dog with me, but it was all so easy. I was really happy with the service i got both at the port and on the ferry.
