The Albayzin was built in 2004 and is now part of the Trasmediterranea fleet. The vessel carries around 1000 passengers and also caters for 172 vehicles during its crossings. This spacious ship has plenty to offer to keep travellers occupied while on board. Facilities include an a la carte and self-service restaurant, a disco bar, comfortable cabins, children’s playing area and child care options, spacious pet areas as well as the usual shopping services.
Cabins are available for customers who want that little bit of extra comfort during their Mediterranean voyage. The rooms come with bathroom facilities and are also suitable for those onboard with restricted mobility.
A variety of different eateries and drinks options are available on the Albayzin. With a self-service restaurant and an a la carte option there is plenty of choice for travellers. For those that want a more lively scene, there is the Disco Bar with a large variety of drinks.
Fancy a bit of retail therapy? You can indulge in some duty free shopping whilst travelling with Trasmediterranea. You will have the opportunity to take advantage of cheaper than high street prices and also purchase magazines, books and puzzles to pass the time during your crossing.
A deck area with sun loungers is offered for customers to enjoy the beautiful views and weather the Mediterranean has to offer. One useful little extra are the booths and walking area provided for those travelling with pets. Pets have spacious, private areas to stay whilst you enjoy what services the ship has available.
If you are travelling with babies, toddlers or children there are plenty of amenities at your disposal. A kids play area is onboard and also childcare options if you want a little break whilst onboard. Changing facilities are also available.
Access for people with restricted mobility is of a high standard on the Albayzin with the cabins, toilets and ramps adapted.

"Ferry Cadiz/Arrecife"
This trip is generally good, staff friendly and helpful, cabin and facilities therein very good and the ship is very clean. Lounge facilities are very limited and noisy, seats in the restaurant are used as sleeping quarters despite the signs prohibiting it! The food is good and is included in the price of the trip, but the serving of the main evening meal starts too late and people can - literally - queue for well over an hour before being served! The only way to avoid this is to arrive 40 minutes before 20.30 and stand for 40 minutes. Also, families send their children to reserve a space, then as many as 12 adults arrive at 20.25 and take their places at the head of the queue. Many people complained but nothing was done. This was our fourth trip on this ferry.

This was our return trip to Cadiz from Las Palmas. We found the boarding much easier and the staff very friendly. (much better than in Cadiz on our outward journey.) The cabin was extremely clean and comfortable, as was the rest of the ferry. The food was a very vast improvement so much so we wrote a letter for the catering manageress and the company. (the food on our outward journey was appalling and uneatable). Because of the violent storm encountered on the Sunday people were suffering sea sickness. The staff were very helpful and issued (if you wanted it)sickness tablets. When arrived in Cadiz the ferry was on time and disembarking was efficient.
"A good crossing"
We had a return journey with this ferry and all-in-all it went well. The included meals were decent, the staff always helpful and the public toilets clean.

Great ferry, cabins a bit dated like the ferry but more than comfortable for our needs. Food edible and good drink prices if you hit the happy hours. All in all a good crossing and would us again if coming to Lanzarote again by car.

Good all round sail. Transferred from port onto ferry by minibus. Lots of seating available which was helpful for storing luggage. On arrival transferred from ferry to main port entrance which was perfect for onward travel. (Cigar car hire short walk away)
"Overtocht Tenerife"
Je hebt in elk geval een hut nodig! De stoel waar je gebruik van moet maken tijdens de nacht deugt niet, je bent geradbraakt de volgende dag. Het eten is redelijk goed, personeel vriendelijk. We hebben diverse keren gebruik gemaakt van deze overtocht, in hut..maar waren te laat met boeken.Ook de overtocht duurt veel langer, komt ook omdat de boot uren in de haven van Las Palmas blijft liggen.Geeft dan wel de mogelijkheid om Las Palmas te gaan bekijken! Deze keer zijn er éindelijk buiten ook wat stoelen beschikbaar. Wij geven de voorkeur aan de ferry die vanaf Huelva vertrekt maar die is sinds dit jaar overgegaan in andere handen.

Ship adequate and crew very helpful. On board shop open very limited hours and poor selection of items Food both in buffet and a la carter quite awful Poor quality and poor choice of food. Not enough facilities for number of passengers Even in restaurant waited 90 minutes to be served Disappointing

The ferry was In need of refurbishment it was looking tiered and the price is to high for the that crossing
"A necessary evil"
The crossing is what it is, by no means a luxury ferry, more of a commercial ferry with a few private cars and motor homes etc thrown in. Be warned there is nothing to do whilst on board, the bar only sells overpriced small cans of beer and wine, the food is erm, leaves much to be desired. There is a small shop that opens briefly but does not sell much. Our advice would be, take your own supplies and a fully charged kindle each. Also finding the port entrance at Cadiz is very tricky if you have not been before, It is not clearly signed like in say Santander etc, Also the postcodes printed on the online confirmations are for the offices of Transmeditterania and not the actual port departure point, this is also true in Arricife
"Better than expected"
We were pleasantly surprised. We had heard it wasn’t that good, this was the first time we have travelled on the ferry Albayzin and had booked a cabin as it was a night crossing, we wasn’t sure what to expect, but the ship was ok, not a cruise ship but ok, the staff were great, very pleased with the cabin, similar to the cabins we ve had on cruise ships, food wasn’t good but we took a bag with our own food.

My fourth trip and I just lie in my bunk and get it over with. Fabulouly expensive, but the only way to take my car.
"Albayzin Gran Canaria to La Palma"
Good trip, with helpful staff in Gran Canaria terminal. Ferry on time and very comfortable cabin. Would have benefitted greatly at time of booking to have been informed that the journey would be broken at Tenerife for some seven or so hours. Would have enabled better forward planning of time in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Also would have been better if there had been more flexibility about the transit transfers to and from the ship and ports. Otherwise very pleased with the trip.

"Ferry from the 70ties"
The ferry would need "little bit" renovation. Cabins smelling of old wee. Food was quite interesting experience. I was not even sure what I was eating even it was supposed to be chicken, fish or something else - I could not taste. Ok - I got my stomach filled. Crew was not really able to speak nothing else as Spanish. They could not give any information of nothing. Would be interesting situation during a emergency ! Only positive on this trip were the office people at Tenerife harbor and beautiful sunset at the rear deck.
"Would be perfect if the WiFi wasn't this stupid"
This trip was actually not too bad, I was really paranoid and expected a very difficult 2 day voyage. But everything is great on this ship - they have places to sleep, a free buffet 3 times a day (and a restaurant as well), gift shop. The only thing that is really annoying - you have to pay for the WiFi. And not only it is really expensive, but your timer never stops, even if you are disconnected from the internet. So basically they expect you to use up your allowance in one huge 12-hour marathon. The WiFi situation needs a drastic change, otherwise - this trip is alright.

Everything about the sailing was extremely good apart from the delay at the start. We were asked to check in before 10pm for a midnight sailing - this was far too early even if the ship had been on time!

The overall experience was good taking into consideration that this is a commercial ferry. The menu option for evening meal in the self service restaurant was very poor and the staff were unhelpful. We were introduced to the Captain on our second night when dining in the Al a carte restaurant.

To start with the ship was 2 hours late setting sail, and I could not book a cabin (extra 178€) until the early hours of the morning (and even then the door lock to the cabin was broken) as one was not alloted to me during making the reservation. With 2 nights on the ship going to Tenerife there was no entertainment, only TV in Spanish and wifi at an extortionate cost. The staff serving the food at meal times were not trained in catering, with the way they served the food and failure to wear any head dress. On the return journey to Cadiz again I could not book a cabin (extra 178€) until the early hours of the of the second day, as one was not alloted to me during making the reservation. In general a very boring 5 days spent on the ship that cost me an extra 356€ on top of a very expensive 2 way crossing. So no I will not use it again nor, will I recommend it to anyone else.
"Beware of actual departure date"
I chose Saturday date for departure and online check-in didn't worked so we traveled by foot to station and got noticed that ferry moves only Thursdays and we have missed our trip. With this incident I recommend local Taxi drivers, who are really helpful and will also call to ferry companies to get you on board.

Boarded the ship at Las Pamas no problems nice and quick Excellent cabin with tv (only spanish channels ) So that needs to change,,Food was basic but plentiful and served with a smile which was great . The crossing itself is long 2 days but it was pleasent enough with bingo and games for the kids ,the bar was good aswell,,,,we docked on time and off the ship really quickly to meet the nice customs guys ,,,good service
"Never Again"
I took my vehicle to the Canary Islands on this ferry some months ago and during that crossing I felt a sense of dread that in only a few months time I would have to return that way. The ferry is old and has no concern for passenger comfort. It's 3rd world at best with everyone sleeping on floors, on restaurant benches and across the airplane styled seating in the main concourse area. Even booking months in advance I was unable to book a cabin and I understand there aren't very many to be had. If you have to take a vehicle over then you have no choice. If there was a choice, you should never book this ferry.
"Bilious boredom"
Because of connecting services this route won out over the alternative which lands at Huelva. We will not use it again because, given the limited diversions on the boat boarding at 23.30 on Friday, landing at midday on Monday becomes a trial of endurance. The boat is not laid out to accommodate passengers. There is no entertainment and with our car being on top deck exposed the elements we had to get the salt crust off before we could get on with our journey. The only way to justify this for us would be if the price was significantly below the Huelva option. Of the three meals a day lunch and dinner were fine but breakfast was poor being based around the continental style, no good at all if you are coeliac, there was no gluten free offer.

The overall experience wasn't bad the lack of information given on the article and when tickets are both could be changed, staff was super nice and paying for the internet wasn't expected. Price to big for the product offered

Trip was fine both ways, ship a bit dated but comfortable enough, left and arrived on time both ways. Problem was finding the dock in Gran Canaria on way back! Ticket did not state which dock it was and Las Palmas is huge with loads of docks. When eventually stumbled on the ship, we could see it but not exactly easy to find your way to the offices to book in. Some signposts and indication on the booking confirmation would be good! Got on board by the skin of our teeth. Would not have been amused had we missed it as arrived in Las Palmas in plenty of time.

I enjoyed the trip, the food was good and the crew were very helpful but I did know I could have got off at Lanzaroti which added another day to my trip and the expense of a ferry to Fuerteventura from Gran Canaria

This was our first journey on this ferry. We were foot passengers. Everything went according to plan, but there was very little information about what was going on at the departure port, especially information in English. We were very unsure if we were in the right place or what to do.

The ship takes 8 hrs for a 40 mile jounrey which is OK if you are using it for overnight accommodation. I rented a cabin at 90E solo. The catering at theterminal closed 2 hours before boarding. Cabin was clean an comfortable with good shower.

I'm very satisfied. No doubt that next time I will choose the same company because I have previous experience with another company (Naviera Armas) and similar route (from Huelva to Tenerife) and this experience was very bad.
"Costs that should be avoidable"
Whilst the ferry is everything you would expect there are a number of things that could be improved, the food on the ferry is a little strange very few vegetables if you have a boll of salad that is classed as a course, this means that you now cannot have a starter or main course!! However you can have a starter and main course but no salad?? Secondly whatever you go out with you are charged to come back with and there seems to be little difference in pricing i.e. I gout with a boat on a trailer and top box. I return with a short trailer as the boat has been left and the top box in now in my car or strapped to the trailer and is below the hight of my car. I have to pay the same price out and back - why? If i try and book it as two separate bookings the cost is a lot more - this does not make sense. Other than that the service on the ferry is good the rooms clean and the food eatable, but there is a lack of things to do when you are on a ferry for 60 hours!!!
"Does everything it says on the box"
The cabin was clean and functional. Ship departed on time with both the shore side and marine crew very competent. The food was struggling to be average, ok but nothing to write home about. The "waitress" in the "restaurant" was incapable of doing anymore than one thing at a time and could only be described as "almost useful". All in all wasn't a bad trip
"Cadiz to Arricife."
On the whole we were very happy with our ferry crossing. The ship isn't actually a cruise liner but is sufficient for the 31 hour crossing. Our cabin was clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. This was our third crossing on this ferry and we found out that our ticket included free meals from the self-service buffet (breakfast, lunch and dinner). I'm not sure why we didn't know that the meals were included in our tickets but we will know for our return journey next Spring. The only real downside to the journey was the accommodation provided for our dog. The cages were spacious enough but were below deck in the area where the refrigeration containers were located. This meant that the dogs had to contend with continuous load noise from the refrigeration units. The area was not well ventilated either. Overall we were happy with our journey but would like to see Transmederanea look at their dog accommodation on this ferry as a matter of some urgency.

MY TRIP WAS GREAT EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T REALISE THE BOAT CALLED IN AT EVERY CANARY ISLAND ON ROUTE. BOAT WAS FINE FOOD OK REALLY AND WAS WITH MY FARE INCLUDED. STAFF ON BOARD VERY GOOD. TAKE A GOOD BOOK OR A SUDUKO AS THERE NOT A GREAT DEAL TO DO ON BOARD.

This is a great way to get to La Palma. Three days at sea, spending my days chilling out on the sunny deck with a coffee, was awesome.

I travelled from Cadiz to Tenerife on the 25th of November 2014 The crossing was great, the ferry was basic but very comfortable and the staff were extremely friendly. The cabin was good nice and clean and warm. The food was excellent I have had worse in a 4 star hotel. Thank you very much I will use you again and I will also recommend you to others.

No water in the pool, the roof over the pool wasn't open so we couldn't enjoy the sun. The food that was included in the price was bland. Nothing to do on the ferry, would've been nice with a trobadour for example. The trip was a transport distance more than anything else.

The accommodation on the ship Albayzin for the dogs (called the dog pound) is located on parking level 4 access is via a fairly steep iron stairs, no elevator. The boxes (cages) are indeed spacious, but are in addition to the transport trucks, which require power and next to the trash cans It's noisy and stinks There regulated visiting hours about 5 times a day you can under no circumstances stay the whole day with his dog and now the most important:..... with heavy seas is not a visit to the dogs possible! which means in my case 30 hours without walking the dog! And without the dog to see. impossible states. There are surveillance cameras everywhere and the doors are locked! A creep into the cabin is not possible. The supervision of the dogs is similar to that of felons. And times should not be led astray, even small dogs up to 6kg in own transport boxes may not in the cabin nor to any other public space. these dogs need at night in the cages. If you want to leave the dog in the car (RV), you have to sign anything that you do it at your own risk. Is only recommended on Deck 5, Deck 4, and since the others can be in heavy seas enter under any circumstances. And lastly, it is not recommended to leave his car put next to the overloaded, stappled vans of Moroccans, poses a huge security risk in heavy seas. On my crossing, some of these cars have come into spin and even upset, one with the load against my camper.

"First time venture from Valencia to Mahon"
The ferry service was both prompt and efficient in terms of time and of personnel. Although there were few instructions at the terminal in Valencia or on the website to help inexperienced ferry travellers, this was my first experience of a Mediterranean ferry, staff were available to help in security and also at the bar. It was really good to have a bar service available even though we arrived at the terminal some six hours ahead of time! The weather on the day did not encourage us to venture further into Valencia on the day. Loading was very efficient and ahead of leaving by a good margin. The top deck for the Mahon cars was a bit hairy to reach but well staffed. The food service was adequate and the set menu okay but not inspiring . The bar staff were very friendly and helpful. Cabins were fine. Comfortable and available throughout the journey which was appreciated. We slept very well on the first leg and only awoke to the announcements in Palma. The next leg was a little choppy so the cabin was good to relax in. We had a bit of a free for all disembarking at Mahon and I think more guidance could be given to a distinct order for the rows of cars reversing to leave the top deck. Once off we left very quickly and the local police were very much in attendance and helpfu Would not hesitate however in using the ferry service again.
