The mightily impressive La Suprema can carry up to 2920 passengers on each of its crossings. This ferry contains 567 cabins, 37 suites and also four specially adapted disabled cabins. There is room for 984 vehicles and the ship can reach speeds of up to 28 knots. Onboard you will find an array of amenities such as an a la carte restaurant, self-service restaurant, snack bar, children’s play area, games room, shopping and seasonal swimming pool.
Comfortable cabin options are available onboard La Suprema. With 567 cabins and 37 luxurious suites to choose from, you won’t be disappointed. All cabins come with air conditioning, en suite bathrooms, including a shower and hairdryer and the comfy beds will help you put your feet up, relax and maybe get some much needed sleep. If you choose to stay in one of the sumptuous suites you will be able to take advantage of complimentary air conditioning, a television, radio and mini bar, as well as a large porthole for you to admire the sea views.
There really is something to please all culinary tastes on La Suprema, with a huge variety of food options available. The a la carte restaurant provides those onboard with a combination of Mediterranean, regional and international meals with a range of delicious dishes for all three courses. The self service area allows you to have a large array of different choices in an informal setting whilst the snack bar and pizzeria serve up fast food classics.
A shopping centre can be found on La Suprema where you can enjoy some duty free shopping whilst making your crossing. Voyagers have the chance to buy gifts and pick up some great bargains on items such as perfume, aftershave, alcohol and other selected items. There are also newspapers, magazines, books, toys and puzzles to help you pass the time on your
In the summer months make sure you back those swimming costumes as you can enjoy the benefits of the Mediterranean climate from the on deck pool. However, all year round you can while away the hours in the modern games room or if you fancy a little flutter, on the slot machines. If you and your colleagues need to have meetings on the move then you are covered thanks to the conference centre and meeting rooms. The public Wi-Fi also makes sure you can surf the web as well as the waves whilst onboard. You’ll also find a chapel and library on the ferry.
Travelling with little ones can sometimes be a challenge but the designated children’s area helps keep young voyagers happy.
The ship has been adapted throughout to help travellers with restricted mobility and also has four disabled cabins.

"Genoa-to-Palermo"
The best thing about the crossing was the little Canteen on dock #5 where we had a bite to eat as we waited to board. The departure was on time. The reclining seats were quite comfortable but the numbering was a bit haphazard. We arrived in Palermo on time but there was a distinct lack of communication (messages on the onboard public address system) about the disembarkation. The result was that we stood within site of the car deck for 45minutes waiting to be told we could get back in our vehicles; a very uncomfortable 45 minutes.
"unpünktlich, inkompetent, "
gebuchte und im Voraus bezahlte Kabine stand nicht zur Verfügung, Abfahrt und Ankunft jeweils vier Stunden verspätet, keine Kompensation gewährt
"Do not book with direct ferries "
Gnv good but “direct ferries” are a terrible company
"Shambles"
2 star
"There's so much better you could do!"
Forced to leave the cabin 2 hrs before arriving, and having to stay outside on the ponte not to get crawded with tenths of people in the bar. Mattresses too hard, no tv in the cabins. Wifi not working for the entire trip and reading room closed. Animals all over the places leaving excrements everywhere. You can't stay outside unless you smoke the cigarettes of hundreds people (too difficult to identify and limit an area just for smokers? ) . Such a long trip and there is absolutely nothing to do on board. I travelled a lot on ling ferrying journeys in Europe, and these issues are all being taken care of. The only good thing the pizza and service at the restaurant, the guys are excellent.
"Not as tiring as driving"
Ok
"Road Trip from Malta "
The crossing was very calm and during the day we found a quiet spot to sit and read. What was missing was somewhere to sit and work. Because we had our dog travelling with us, we were confined to the top deck (also the disco / party deck) which wasn't ok. The kennels are on the same deck as the party and they were ok, but not special. For me every cabin should be dog friendly, remove the carpets (kids make more mess than dogs), and allow owners to take their dogs to the cabins.
"Palermo to Genoa."
The ferry and our cabin was comfortable and clean, the food in the restaurant was poor and disappointing, I chose from the menu chicken with lemon and olives and received a roast chicken leg, thats all ! The check in and loading procedure at Palermo was chaotic an confusing, the loading staff should calm down and give clear instructions not wave their arms around at everyone and it was a similar experience on arrival at Genoa, apart from that the sailing was an enjoyable experience.
"Great cabin but otherwise disappointing "
It was a smooth crossing and we departed and arrived on time. As we’d booked the Presidential suites we were really pleased with our accommodation, very spacious and comfortable. But otherwise we were disappointed. The restaurant ran out of a lot of food very quickly, and what was left was pretty unpleasant; we ate it only because the alternative was hunger. Many advertised amenities were closed (swimming pool, gym, cinema) and the staff looked like they really didn’t want to be there. I won’t be taking this crossing again.
"Trip to Sicily "

"Palermo to Genova"
La Suprema has good facilities, nice cabins, nice deck space. Didn't like disposable coffee cups in bar. Very confusing, chaotic and lengthy loading and unloading
"No seats at the pool by warm and sunny weather!"
We are very disappointet!
"During weekly random safety drills there are services to passengers including meals"
First we went to the ticket office in rain to be told to get tickets on the ship... Found out this was for cars only... Went back to the ticket office with even bigger queues and finally got on board. Boarding was efficient... We hadn't eaten due to late train from Syracuse... The food in "self service was appallingly... Cold tasteless pasta 7.90 Euro... Same price for a plate of plain carrots and beans... Went to the bar where there was one waiter serving drinks and selling essentials like water... Next morning we were woken 08.30 to be informed about a safety drill. We missed breakfast and went to ask when the restaurants would be open... Was told the drill went on 1.hr then they would open....I went back to info well after 1 hr and was treated like I was a nuisance with Llasia (her name) putting her hands to her head as if to say I can't cope.. Turning to her colleagues and speaking Italian. When leaving by chance I bumped into the captain and his entourage to voice my dismay... I told him I had documented the incidents but he was not interested. He told me to tell reception... When informed about the above he marched me there. She told her version in Italian and he then berated me saying the port authority don't allow any service to passengers during this practice... He had asked several times but had been refused! They didn't open the restaurant until 13.30...there were very long queues at the other poor quality food outlets.... It would be advisable for all passengers to take all dietary requirements on board or risk becoming very hungry not to mention poor to boot!
"Smell"
Our cabin smelled of dogs the shower head was broken did not report it as we were berry tied and went straight to bed we traveled with this ship before and it had been ok
"Genoa to Palermo return"
The loading and unloading was unacceptable - too long and chaotic, with virtually no staff to help. It was like our's was the first ferry crossing that had ever been handled. Cabins were good, but going out the cabin we booked had been given away, and another, better we were told, had to be found. Cabins were quiet and comfortable. Food was poor, and the staff a bit surly. Notices and directions on board the ship - which was much too big - were poor, and we didn't find half the facilities. And being corralled into a waiting area for more than two hours after vacating the cabin was a disgrace.
"More info useful"
Would have been great to have some information before sailing of; if only because the info provided on board was difficult/not to follow (for non-Italians anyway). How the boarding works exactly, when the huts are available (when you have to leave them), when restaurants open and close, and so on - would have been great to know.
"Excellent journey, excellent service"
Excellent ship, very good facilities, wonderful and spacious cabin. Excellent staff. I truly enjoyed my journey on this ship.
"Worst ferry Company GNV"
Do not under any circumstances try to book a van with this company either direct or through direct ferries. Their definition of a van is that it has to have seats in the back. You have to book it as freight/cargo. Even if you choose correct height/length for a van they refuse to board you unless you buy a new ticket that is classed the same as a hgv! Even though on the new ticket it says furgone, which translates as a van!. Both outbound and return they refused boarding. I had to book through cargo.gnv.it, and then still was refused. The booking reference they gave was invalid at the ticket office, 10's of calls and nothing ever resolved. They don't care about customers, my elderly parents were extremely upset. And just to clarify this was a tiny van. 5mt length and under 2mtr height. The van was also empty. Its almost like a scam
"Mobile Data HORROR"
Nice ship, punctual, spacious. Not much to do...so bring a good book! BEWARE data. I boarded at 10pm, and went to bed. Boat departed at 11pm. As the boat got far enough off shore, the phone network was out of range and my I phone automatically switched to the onboard network provider (a satellite service). At approx mid morning I got several text messages from my UK provider ((three network), saying I had spent nearly £148!! Data costs £6 per MB, and I guess all the photos I took on the road trip to Genoa were gently being synchronised across my various Apple gadgets during the night while I was fast asleep! You must consider the ship as a foreign country, outside Europe, and switch OFF data roaming on your phone. I complained to reception on board that this had happened, to which the lady’s response was ‘Oh Yes, this happens all the time’! I made the suggestion they publish some warning posters, visible on arrival, saying ‘Beware Data Roaming Charges Apply on Board’, which she thought was a good idea, and scuttled off sheepishly. I imagine they make a good profit off the service, so won’t be publishing those posters! Direct Ferries... if you are reading this post, you should provide the warning clearly in your ticketing emails.
"Disapointed"
I booked through direct ferries, The booking did not match my ticket.I booked an outside room, with balcony and late checkout. Both caused a big problem, no balcony and no let checkout. Finally paid more, and got balcony. Complained about late checkout, and won.
"Happy Travels"
Very impressed with La Suprema. Good cabins, comfortable beds, good shower. A little bit disorganised in embarcation signage in docks in Palermo. Otherwise very smooth crossing.
"Chaos on the High Seas"
Our trip from Palermo to Genova was marred by incredibly bad service. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good boat and the cabins are great... but the food is terrible yet expensive. And the communication to passenger is, quite frankly, non-existent... and often wrong. Add WiFi to the list... we paid and it worked 3 minutes out of 60. We didn’t know what was going on, or when. We were even directed to the wrong ferry and very nearly ended up in Rome instead of Genova. And before you assume it’s because we don’t know English, I can tell you that Italians we spoke with on board were just as confused. Travel on this ferry again? Not a chance!
"GNV trip Palermo to Genoa"
Very good trip. Cabin booked very clean and tidy. Would recommend
"Not bad but could be better"
The Information desk is not very helpful! They couldn't identify the islands we were passing back to Genoa nor the procedures for disembarking. Plus the cafeteria is overpriced and not very good value for money. Otherwise, fine!
"Do frills"
The boat looks and feels like it is straight out of the 60s. It’s dated, in desperate need of cosmetic repairs and a refurb. For Italians the food level was also atrocious. Gets you from point to point in the time stated with a bed to sleep on.
"disappointing"
This was our first trip by ferry and sadly disappointed. On the way to genoa the ship was good, on time, etc The meals that we paid for on booking doesnt show that there is little or no choice in what you can have , everything else was classed as extras. The cabin was good on the way out of Genoa to Tunis but rubbish on the way back as well as the sailing being cancelled for 1 week, with no refund for the inconvenience or extra expenses incurred.
"Too many dogs and a horrible 3 hour wait in the ferry lobby sitting on the floor!"
we travelled last week, the boat is good, however there are too many dogs in and around the boat. There are dogs being walked everywhere, with the obvious basics of hygiene a concern as so many dogs and people all sharing the same area. Not nice. The second area which needs addressing is why all of the passengers need to wait in lobby areas 3 hours before arrival into port? It's an awful experience with everyone herded together with insufficient seating, therefore everyone sitting on the floor (where all the dogs have been walked, clear remains of excrement and stains) with nothing to do but wait for 3 hours to be told to queue and leave the boat. There is no justification for such a poor traveller experience. I suggest the GNV executive team experience this as to see how it is to be a GMV passenger and then consider how their passengers' last 3 hours of their journey could be better spent and enjoyed?! Not like herded cattle but as holidaymakers!
"Mixed feelings"
Embarking from Palermo was a nightmare with an organisation from hell. Debarking in Genoa took ages. Ship was hours late. Not a single deck chair on the top outdoor decks. The cabin for two on deck eight was very spacious and comfortable. Food was ecellent in the a la carte restaurant.
"While NOT superb, La Superba was good value."
GNV La Superba While hardly superb, La Superba was quite comfortable for the 19-hour crossing from Genoa to Sicily; it was good value for the modest cost. My criticisms focus on communication and towels. First, after receipt of my initial booking, I received NO further communiqués from GNV. All airlines/trains/buses/hotels in my experience send upcoming journey notices. I never received ANY boarding instructions: where, when, how, etc. When I asked Direct Ferries, my ticket was confirmed but I received NO instructions as requested. The second criticism is focused on on-board communication. There was NO “guest services” information sheet/brochure in the room. I had to inquire as to where to go to obtain a wi-fi connection. There I purchased 40” for 5 Euros. On exiting, I found a notice by the lift of a two-hour 10 Euro special. It would have been very nice if the staff member who sold me the 5 Euro package had informed me of the special. There was NO NOTICE of it at the reservation desk; there was only the lone sign by the lift. Finally, in our 4-person cabin, two bath towels were provided with NO hand towels. There were four women, two of whom showered and washed their hair. I was not one of the two. I find that totally unacceptable.
"Had nice time on the ferry"
Had nice time on the ship and would go back some time soon
"Great ships!"
Fantastic ships - very spacious and comfortable. Excellent cabin (4-berth exterior). Good restaurants but the bar facilities were a bit disappointing. Some areas were not available (e,g, the library). On the whole, a great experience we would be happy to repeat.
"Trip to Genoa"
The ship was very clean, pleasant and the crew very helpful. The cabin was very comfortable. The only problem for a solo traveller was that on the Itinerary it stated tickets to be collected from 'Via Calata Marinai d'Italia'. This road (via) did not exist on either of the 2 maps of Palermo that I consulted. I asked the Tourist Office and they also could not find it but suggested I go to the docks and have a look around. Finally I found it was on Via Del Mare and the offices (open from 5pm) were situated between the Varco Amari and Varco Santa Lucia dock gates and the office called GNV. There was a small plaque inside one dock entrance saying Via Calata Marinai d'italia but I really feel strongly that one should have the CORRECT address as on a map and the correct name of the office if tickets cannot be issued in advance.
"great crossing"
Nice ship, staff friendly, had pre paid meals, but budget for extras, worth booking a cabin had a 2 berth to myself great. Getting on & off a bit of an experience just be patient
"Alternative to driving"
What an amazing trip and a lot quicker than driving. The boat is huge and the staff are so helpful but the food does not compare to Sicilian.
"Italy trip "
Very good second time I have used this service, would use again
"Trip to Malta"
Excellent service. The cabin was amazing and very comfortable. Easy on and off with my car
"La Suprema"
We 'pushed the boat out' and took a presidential suite which had a balcony. This option isn't clearly labelled on the directferries website but is well worth the money if you can afford it because you get a balcony and the trip becomes a mini luxury cruise. Don't by the meal tickets though as these can only be used in a tacky cafeteria whereas there's a very nice restaurant on board. Loading is chaotic so just be prepared for potentially having to reverse your car down a ramp to the bottom deck and unloading is a shambolic free for all where the staff seem to wash their hands of any health and safety responsibilities. Just one tip, if you have a cabin, don't bother to vacate until you're in port, disembarkation takes ages yet they call you to leave your room 1.5 hours beforehand
"Nice journey "
I think it been a nice and comfortable journey with GNV from Palermo to Genoa. I will use the service again for sure.
"poor buffet"
The qualitu of food at the buffet was really poor and the staff did not speack english. This kind of ship should be avoid during the summer season because the better services like spa, disco or pool are closed.
"The Suprema"
All nice and comfortable especially if you have the cabin. The only negative thing is that mannerless people let their pets get dirty inside the ship... We should have more stricter controls and rules. Good journey.
"Genoa Palermo GNV"
I travelled for the second time with GNV. Unfortunately it was not good like the first one. No tv in cabin, rude staff and dirty enviroments.
"Excellent"
Ok
"staff of, food sent us to the hospital"
It was our first time with GNV. We were amazed by the greatness of the ship and by the animation on board, everything beautiful and cabins were clean enough. Unfortunately 3 of us felt bad at the arrival because of a food intoxication (if you would like we could send you the relative certificates) fortunately my kids ate something else. Don't sell fish cooked 4 days before...
"Genua palermo"
Nice ship but lots of noisy Italians upon boarding, we were the last to board and were left to our fate.
"All perfect"
Really enjoyed the trip, efficient and polite staff on board.
"WORTH"
I recommend -very nice travel
"Great"
A perfect and relaxed way to get to Sicily with your car.
"Return trip Genoa-Palermo"
Great ferries, very clean cabins and very helpful staff
"Genova-Palermo"
The quality of the service, clean cabins.
"Recommended"
We booked this trip online. Since the price difference between an inside and outside cabin was not big, this time we chose an outside cabin. The cabin seemed a bit bigger and to our surprise the ship seemed fairly new with a completely different interior than we were used to. In summary, the beds were good, it was clean, the food was good, and the shower provided good. A good experience, however pricey.. Dismbarking in Genoa went smoothly because everything was very well organised and the motorists drove off quietly.
"Missing tv room"
We could not find a room with a tv to watch something.
"Great Service!"
What a deal. How can you beat it at this price? It would cost who knows how much to drive the length of Italy, with tolls, and the stress of roadworks. This was like a giant cruise ship. Bars, restaurants, cinema, casino, playroom for kids, showers for those sleeping in pullman seats. I went off-season, so very empty and plenty of space to stretch out and sleep. Don't know how comfortable it would have been in high season with just one seat per person; I'd probably have chosen a cabin, but as I was traveling on my own, it would have meant a shared 4-berth cabin. My only regret was that a man in an office told me there was no internet connection, so left my laptop in my car (no access to cars after departure). Yet of course there was Wifi (how could Italians be separated from their telefonini for 22 hrs!) The captain said the sea condition was 'rough', but the ship is so huge it is very stable so very little movement. I I would highly recommend this option for getting to Sicily. There is an Ibis Styles right opposite the port, so it's only 1 minute to an overnight hotel. All in all it was an enjoyable and stress-free experience.
"LANDING"
The crossing it was comfortable but I want to point 2 things. 1)I did not like the change of cabin. 2)too long the waiting time before the boarding. It should be reducted in particular for who has the car in the A garage.
"comfortable travel"
I travelled in the month of Dicember 2014 and I have to say that it was a comfotable trip. Clean ship, comfortable seats, and easy garage.Plus your website is really easy to undestant e for booking. Good job.
"Advice"
All perfect, from the cabins to the kindness of the staff..
"Above all expectations!"
we had the most pleasant journey with this company. I have actually nothing to complain about.
"all good"
first experience with GNV and I'm completely satisfied. Good value for money. Recommended
"palermo genova 04/10/14"
I paid 400€ for my tickets and I couldn’t find a place on the deck to enjoy the sun. I had to stay on the floor like an homeless
"lovely trip"
it's the third time that I'm travelling from Genova to Palermo and return. All GNV ships, high standerds level, are as a cruise ships. You can relax and meet people or read a book on the deck, or you can stay inside and watch a movie. Great! Bar and restaurants with good quality of food even if a bit expensive. recommended
"Observations"
The ferry Suprema offer a better assistence. I suggest to be on time with the departure, otherwise the trip is endless
"Trip"
Perfet trip, cosy ferry
"Lovely how dogs welcome"
Overall good , just takes a very long time to load and unload (like 2 hours). Food disappointing for Italy and restaurant opening hours very short . We missed it.. Pool closed in September . Very nice how dogs are welcome. UK ferries should learn from this. Delightful.
"genova-palermo and return"
friendly staff, clean ship
"my opinion"
I travelled with Fantastic and Suprema, great trip and comfortable cabin but the boarding time is slow
"Good sailing - stock up on food stuffs before you sail"
We booked a sailing from Genova to Palermo with our car. The booking and boarding was easy - arriving at Genova/Palermo a few hours before departure. We opted for sleeping seats not cabins - these were fine. The ship was comfortable with plenty of toilets nearby and shower facilities. The only down side was disembarkation of the ship with the car, this was rather disorganised - some near misses and narrowly avoiding damage to our car. Be warned the cost of foods on board are expensive and queues for a cup of café can be long. At Genova port, we noticed many Italians heading off the attached shopping centre and stocking up, and we followed suit. Just as well as this kept us going during the 19+ hour trip with plenty of bottle water and snacks. A cool box would also be ideal.
"all good"
great trip with La Suprema. All brand new, with swimming pool, bars, music, restaurants. See you next summer!
"good trip but they can improve"
bad quality at the restaurant and very expensive, toilets dirty and few of them out of service.
"Cabin essential"
This is not a ferry you might associate with crossing the English Channel, it is in fact a luxurious cruise ship that takes you from Palermo to Genoa in 21 hours. However, it is a must to have a cabin and enjoy the relaxing benefits of a hotel room at sea complete with bathroom & double bed, and in our case a lovely sea view, forward over the bow. Boarding and check in are a bit chaotic, allow 2-3 hours for it. The garages for vehicles are enormous but well organised. A negative is the area for dogs which are allowed travel - looks decidedly unhygenic and is incongruous on such a high quality boat. Overall a good 8/10
"amazing trip"
All good, we left 1 hour late but we arrived at Palermo port on time. Amazing the swimming pool to enjoy the weather and to meet new people. Staff always smiling and friendly
"as usual"
Unfortunately the situation on the ship reflects exactly the Italian economy: rare staff so bad service on board. We booked for a cabin and we found dirty sheets, no towels, dirty sink, dirty shower. Bad quality of the food at the restaurant even if expensive: a cold lemon tea 33cl €3,00. A good managment should improve the service on board and has to offer more. Grimaldi, think about that
"holidays Genova-Palermo"
Fabulous trip with a friendly staff. The only negative feedback is for the dogs accomodation. I had to leave my dog for 20 hours inside the kennel and the only space to walk with him was 3mt wide and 10mt long. You should find a better solution because there are other companies with better solutions and accomodation. Thank you
"lovely "
We travelled from Genova to Palermo and return. Lovely and funny trip, friendly and helpful staff. No problems during the boarding, fast and organised. Good quality in the restaurant and bar with a wide choice of food.
"Ferry crossing Genoa - Palermo"
The ferry from Genoa to Palermo was relaxing. We booked a 2 berth cabin. Check-in and boarding was a bit hectic but if you remain calm, it’s a piece of cake, especially if drivers with a caravan or trailer have the necessary driving experience ;). The stay on board the Fantastic was OK. If for our next trip we can take an additional 4 days, then we will definitely be travelling again!
"trip Palermo-Genova"
amazing trip, times has flown, wonderful entertainment
"My experience in Suprema"
Excellent ship, amazing service
"very good"
all perfect
"trip genova-palermo"
We travelled with a comfortable cabin, nice staff, clean environment and departure on time. Hoping for another offer to book again. Thank you very much
"Route Palermo-Genova"
The trip was ok but all the services on board are too expensive and the air conditioning is too strong. Why no one changed the temperature?
"trip genova-palermo"
I found the quality of the travel fair, the air-conditioned in the seating area was very high and the bathroom was very dirty (if not mistaken I was in the seating room Michelangelo) Anyway the staff very friendly and helpful See you next time"
"Not enough seats and sunbeds outside"
Neat ship. The only negative thing is that there are not many seats and sunbeds on board. We took our own folding chairs which I recommend everyone else should do. Free WiFi would also nice. This should also be possible for this price.
"a short comment"
We've been taking the Suprema to travel between Genoa and Palermo for 7 years. I was unpleasantly surprised to see that the external cabins are no longer equiped with televisors. If you want to have the TV, you have to book an expensive suite. The rest was ok as usual.
"Comments"
It's the first time that my crossing was pleasant: cleanliness, friendliness I hope that it will continue like this. Also, thanks for informing online when we book the ticket which boat is used on the departing day.
"Genoa Palermo return"
The ship was superb, the reception was good, the cabin was confortable and the crossing took less time than schedule.
"back from Sicily"
The staff at reception is polite and efficient. The cabin is good The choice of meals at the bar on the 9th floor is poor There aren't enough deck chairs. Plus they are folded before arriving in Genoa. Dogs should stay in the kennel!
"PERFECT"
A PERFECT JOURNEY
"Genoa Tunis crossing"
Everything went well in general. The staff was nice and polite. The room was clean and spacious.
"positive"
it was good at all levels
"Journey with Suprema Tunisi/Genoa"
I travelled on the Suprema from Tunis to Genoa. Excellent journey, beautiful ship, the cabins were comfortable, the staff kind, the embarking and disembarking procedures were fast, I used to take this crossing four time every year and its still good.!
"Very satisfied"
A very pleasant journey
"Excellent"
A smooth excellent trip........The volume of the tvs in the lounges was kept to a low sensible level......the boat arrived a few minutes early and was unloaded in record time....(probably because there were very few vehicles)
"Excessive ticket price"
Expensicve ticket for this trip in my opinion. Even the prices of the bar on board were expensive..
"Journey Genoa /Palermo"
Everything fine, beautiful journey, peaceful and punctual
"Price Increase November "
service on board we were very pleased. However, the price for the caravan we find very overpriced. We have in the August / September inform us about the prices and were very surprised with the price increase of approximately 200 euros.
"reliable and great "
time from Genoa and arrived on time in Tunis; Premium cabin was great; Service ok and the staff very friendly staff; the prices in the self-service restaurant too high! total = good rating
"Palermo to Genoa"
Clean and comfortable although a bit boring. Internet cost £10 for 2 hrs. A la Carte restaurant was worth it as the canteen was typical canteen food.Coffee could be better. Last on is 1st off!! Maybe waiting till late to board would be better. Last time we had an outside room with window which we missed this time.Spending quite a few hours during the day reading etc in the room would have benefited from natural light.Maybe worth the extra £20. I have booked the room once on board twice now.It was half the price of booking prior. We went out of season so loads of empties. Not sure I would risk missing out on a cabin and having to have a chair to sleep in for 24 hrs in August/high season. Certainly arrived in Palermo/Genoa ready to get going rather than worn out from the journey.Cost UK to Sicily was slightly cheaper as we didn't have to find a Hotel in Italy.
"Journey to Sicily with my family"
Good Morning, This is the first time that I travelled to Sicily I took the ship Genoa/Palermo with my family, I found it very well organized, even though I booked the seats when we were on board I changed it with the cabin. It was really easy to do because of the staff who were so professional and helpful. we would make this trip again next year and we recommend it
"A journey from Genoa to Palermo"
I've made the crossing between Genoa and Palermo several times and I've never been disapointed with my journeys with this company. The boat is always clean and the staff is very polite.
"Improvements can be made "
the following suggestions: the food supply was inadequate for breakfast very small rolls were offered, why not more? The coffee could be better, the prices are too high relative total. Why is no accommodation available in a dormitory, for example, could in a large empty room just light mattresses are designed to take the offer in an uncomfortable Pullman chair to sleep, it would take most travelers certainly very much prefer to complete.
"In a quiet, comfortable ride About "
pleasant journey, despite the heat swimming pool empty, Fitness center not open Transition to the vehicles upon arrival - compared with other ferry companies - lengthy and burdensome organized. For the rest, completely satisfied.
"Family with 3 children ticket problem and cleanliness problem "
For the return trip I've booked for the whole family 2 suites. On the way everything worked perfectly. On the way back we did not receive a ticket for the youngest child, so that when boarding additional clarifications were needed. Since I the effective online voucher had it, I was allowed to return with all three kids for friendly but very specific negotiations. On the return journey a suite was very dirty. On the curtains stuck " whatever for a brown dirt ". The bed sheets on the pull out couch was smeared with blood. We immediately requests a clean bed sheets, this has worked, but it remains a pale aftertaste for the person who sleeps in this bed. With best regards Susanne Achermann
"Recent trip review"
Had a great trip on this ferry, I was worried at first but finding the port and booking in was eventually quite easy, the ship and trip was very comfortable and the food was very good. Only bad bit was getting through Palermo to the autostrada but this was not the ferry companies doing. I would definitely use the route and company again it saved me a fortune in costs and lonely driving.
"pleasant way of traveling "
pleasant way of traveling around recovers to arrive at your destination.
"Great Holiday completion "
We have really enjoyed our holiday complete with a cozy crossing on the Mediterranean - the journey home from Genoa to Switzerland is then only a short hop compared to the huge distance we have traveled on the way. It was a pity, however, that no seats were available on the deck - it's all set on the floor. Pleasant was once again the uncomplicated Check-In/Check-Out - no eternal waiting times. We are by and large, but very excited to travel this possibility and would definitely repeat!
"Overrun with dogs unreasonable and too expensive "
I have to specify both booking that we travel with our dog. However, this did not show up in the cost calculation. We only received the message that dog with the crowds can be taken. On the ferry we had to solve, however, a dog-ticket and the dog locked up in a box or book a more expensive room, which meant 140 euro surcharge for a walk. Dog shall be present only in these special cabins and a small part of the deck, also they must not be left alone in the cabin. The dog owner you are a extremely restricted during the crossing.
"Few ideas to improve the confort"
I have recently used the ferry in both journeys from Genova to Palermo.. I found it quite ordinary for a ferry, the armchairs were uncomfortable, if they were using the same one as the ones in the cinema it would have been much better. The cost of cabin was too expensive for a single person so I booked the armchair.. I hope that my suggestion could be helpful.
"everything was great "
good organization of a check in and out, friendly staff, decent cabin, too little seats on deck (a shame as nice weather)
"mediocre "
The cabin was cleaned very dusty and bad.
"A beautiful experience"
A very good formula to travel to Sicily with a vehicle and without a long drive through Italy. The signposting in Genoa for the boarding port is not very good. The manoeuvre of the truck is a show that keeps you entertain thoufh. I had booked tickets online for a decent price. However, when I went back to the booking sitre for other informations, I've noticed that the pricesvary a lot. Why? The installation in the cabin was very good and the journey was very pleasant. We recommend this mode of transport to travel to Sicily
"Crossing"
Always the same issues: lateness and people using 4 seats to sleep. The boat was very average in comparison to the one we travelled on during the outbound journey.
"Genoa-Palermo "
clean ship unfriendly staff at the upper deck very strict opening times at bar / restaurants etc. driven in the same holiday with tirrenia and moby, both of which are definitely better!
"Quiet Crossing "
Positive: the almost punctual departure, the outside cabin including the bathroom Negative: Leaving the cabin 2.5 hours before arrival. Unfriendly staff.
"Being on board "
"Restaurant on board is open to briefly. Limited food offerings. Staff in the restaurant works very sloppy and not professional. One has the feeling it was more of a liability than a guest for these employees. Discipline on board the dog owner with their pets is unhygienic. Some let their animals roam freely and it this comes to increased faecal matter with out animals. The present ship's staff takes disciplinary action by far too little. In general, however great crossing. The rooms on board could be better dusted and cleaned. "
"Boarding - disembarkment"
It would be nice if the motorcyclists could board ealier. Thanks
"Palermo - Genoa. La Suprema"
Ship was around an hour late leaving Palermo and consequently more than an hour late arriving in Genoa. Services on board were good and the cabin very comfortable. Novices that we were, we boarded relatively early, but this put us on the lowest car deck in the bowels of the boat. Consequently it took more than 1 hour after docking before we were able to drive off the ship as higher decks had to be discharged first! We were obliged to vacate cabins by 16.45pm (scheduled arrival in Genoa was 18,00) but actual arrival was after 19.00 and we were not called to our car deck until around 20,00hrs so had to sit in the lounge for over three hours. There was no bar or food service available in this lounge for this period of time.
"Some peple from Nice on a trip"
The crossing was pleasant overall. The swimming pool was closed for maintenance. The staff was nice.
"An opinion regarding the crossing"
Some comments about the organisation of the crossing aboard the Suprema. Positives: More on less on time (30 minutes +/-) A good choice to eat and relax Negatives: A bit pricey Products on board were too expensive The cabin was not very clean
"GNV Genova/ Palermo and return"
the ferry was really punctual and also the time travelling was alright, but the armchairs area was quite dirty and I found a bottle of beer on the floor.
"An additional vacation day "
Overall, a reasonable performance. Price. / Performance ratio acceptable.
"Disappointment"
Fantastic: an old and noisy boat. Not enough quiet lounges. A poor swimming poool. And there is nothing to do when you are not Italian. The Suprema: more recent, clean, not enough quiet lounges and nothing to do if you are not Italian
"very disappointed "
Cabine not clean. Car is parked so close that you can almost cann not get off. you have to take into account some scratches or dents, when getting out of parking. in Genoa none of the staff in the underground parking spot chaos 1 hour in the garage running engines stood. prices overpriced. 2.5 hours waiting to access chaos garage
"Not bad"
We travelled in a cabin. Because there isn't a lot of time between 2 crossings, the cabins are not dusted. It's ok if you don't look too closely. If you don't have a dog, avoid the dog deck, as the smell is not very pleasant. The staff on board was very welcoming. The boat arrived on time.
"Meets expectations"
The value of the restaurant (self) is not very good. The gym was closed (it would have been good during a 20 hours crossing). A good reception, clean and punctual. The interactive shows are a very good idea.
"Drinking water is not free on the ferry"
Hello, the service is of very good quality and the competent is competent and available, but: -booking a cabin with a porthole doesn't necessarily mean that you will see the see. I had to close the curtains not to be distrurbed by the people walking on the deck. It's not very noce to pay extra just to see people walking their dogs! -the only drinkable water aboard the boat is the water sold by GNV for over 2.50€ per litre. Bring your own.
"Unfortunately there's no alternative"
Old ferry, kept in a cheap way, beds are comfortable, the communal toilets are disgusting, food quality is poor and prices very high. The staff on board is impatient and bored. The swimming pool are small and not very clean. Unfortunately, I don't know better solutions to take the car to Sicily from Genoa. If wasn't for the car, I would have travelled for sure by plane. It's not a case that there are no many foreigners on board. Just the greek ferries are worst.
"Easy but expensive trip from Genoa to Palermo "
We went from Genoa to Palermo in August 2013. In Genoa you can check-in with the E-mai at the port. Simply follow the signs to the port, the port you will be admitted. Everything very easily. The ship was very modern and clean. The pools were cleared away, unfortunately not in operation and the deck chairs were 3 hours before arrival in Palermo. In the cabin for 4 people only 2 towels. Very good Pullman seats, so that you do not necessarily need a car, but two TVs in the room. Good entertainment.
"M/N Splendid delay "
I am writing regarding the huge delay from Palermo on the 28/08/2013: The M/N departed at midnight and not at h21.00 and arrived in Genoa on the 29/08/2013 at h21.30, instead of h17.00! I wrote to GNV asking for a refund but I didn't receive any reply. The disembarking was not organised: it was a real nightmare, congestions of cars in the garage! For the rest I can't complaint. the trip was pleasant with shows and piano bar. I'm hoping in a better organisation.
"Genoa/Palermo crossing August 2013"
Our crossing from Genoa to Palermo aboard the 'Fantastic' was very difficult… It was probably perfect for people who like cats and dogs. However, we were bothered by the smell of dog poo on the deck. The 'Fantastic' is old and dirty. There are only a few seats for hundreds of passengers. We had to stand up among the dogs to eat... We are very disappointed, because we had previously travelled aboard the 'Suprema', which we were delighted with... It's a shame that you cannot chose which boat you want to travel with. Or maybe, we didn't know how. Thankfully, we had a good holiday, but we had no desire to take that boat to come back. Fortunately, we travelled aboard the 'Suprema' which is a whole different standard: clean, spacious, with some entertainment and an outdoor pool.
"A pleasant trip to Sicily"
The ferry was very cozy and it offered all services for a daily crossing. Excellent timing and good entertainement. Average restaurant service and cabins a bit crammed. Overall an experience to repeat.
"Round trip Palermo-Genoa"
Outbound trip ("Fantastic" ship): Nice the welcome on board. The cabin was dirty and smelly with dirty and dusty blankets. I won't comment the carpet! I noticed passengers taking pets inside the "inside" cabins which are not pet cabins. I can explain the bad smell inside. Staff on board irascible and rude (do they work for free?) In general on board is a race to get a table, a seat, a sofa and deck-chair that passengers would occupy for the whole day. It's the staff responsability to assure that all passengers get the same treatment and can enjoy all services on board.
"Genoa Palermo with Grandi Navi Veloci on the 1st of August 2013"
Good facilities. The quality of the restaurant is very good. Hower, the toilets were blocked during the whole duration of the boat (21 hours!)
"La supréma"
A very big and very well laid-out ferry with a nice and helpful staff. There was a large range of activities and entertainment. Food is available on all kinds of budgets. The crossing doesn't seem that long. The boarding process is fairly long although it is well organised. The first people boarding the ferry should be the first people to disembark.
"Very good, except for the cafeteria"
Very good, except for the prices at the cafeteria (6.80€ for two pieces of cheese) The organisation was good otherwise. I would recommend it.
""
The crossing from Genoa to Palermo with Grandi Navi Veloci was pleasant: the ship is luxuous, the cabin is well equiped and confortable, the sea was quiet. There was a bit of confusion for parking the car, but overall it was like a nice short cruise.
"PG to Genoa"
Our trip on the ship was very good. The only issue we had was the amount of smoking on the ship. There should be smoke free zones outside so that non-smokers can enjoy the environment.
"A very good trip"
The company is organised. The boat was on time. It was clean and welcoming. There are activities for eveyone (swimming pool, play area, karaoke). It's our second trip with GNV and we are very satisfied
""
This journey was conform to our wishes
"18 August 2013 crossing"
We travlled aboard the Fantastic both ways. The state of the cabins was horrific: the toilets weren't clean, there were no towels and the cabin was stinky. The staff isn't nice at all. They should find another job if they don't like theirs!!! The outdoor pool was closed. The price of food was excessive. It's a shame.....
"Very pleasant and quiet "
The trip was pleasant and quiet. However, the disembark at the Geneva's port was a bit disorganised and the traffic to access the motorway was also slow. It took us 1 hour to do 5km.
"Very nice ship "
Very spacious and comfortable cabin, good food on board. All in all a very relaxing crossing.
"Comfortable crossing in the cabin "
20 hours best in the cabin!
"Good start of the holiday"
Took the ferry to Palermo at the start of the holiday. Lovely. Everything is taken care of for you. The food was good, the cabins clean and nice and quiet. Pity that there was no internet straight away but only after a night.
"Return trip with GNV"
I've travelled on the 26/07 (outbound) and the 05/08 (return) from GE/PA and PA/GE with GNV, it wasn't the first time, and like always I had a pleasant experience. I always travel on seat, but I have to say that it's comfortable. Nice the welcome on board and good the service offered during the crossing. Goodbye till the next trip.
"a pleasant crossing"
clean boat varied activities very nice staff
"Help"
All good , except that, at the arrival in Palermo we had to disembark on our own, without the staff help....among thousand difficulties and the risk of accidents. Thanks
"delay"
We left 1h and 30 min late from Palermo due to a death…we understand. We'll see you next time for another crossing.
"relaxed crossing "
very quiet ship, everything organized stress-free
"Genoa-Palermo aboard the Suprema"
Very satisfied with our crossing from Genoa to Palermo (and back) with our car + caper-van. We booked seats, so we brought our pillows. The room and the toilets were cleaned and well maintained
"Nothing to report"
A perfect journey. Bring water bottle. The waiting area for cars before boarding in Genoa is under the sun.
"Genoa-Palermo with "Suprema""
We were 3 people travelling (me, my wife and my child) with a car. We arrived a bit earlier than expected and i can't complain about it. We booked an outside cabin. it was wide, bright and clean. Definitely comfortable if compared to a long drive with a small child. Towels were dirty. Staff on board rude, not very helpful and not very present when was needed (some passengers brought their dog in some restricted areas). Not too many information provided on what do to at the arrival. The waiting to leave the main hall was very long and the air conditioning was not enough.
"Journey"
The journey in poltrone is very long and tiring, especially with children. My advice is to book some cabins. Have a nice trip.
"Boring…"
In a word…. It's long and boring. The entertainment is not varied and not great. A kid movie for example is only available in Italian. The food is really basic. The signposting is not clear and you loose a lot of time looking for places. The dog deck should be better indicated so you don't end up there. There were no explanation regarding safety at boarding in English or in French. As a positive, the staff is nice.
"A good service"
Everything went well. A good prestation.
"A very good journey"
A very good trip, a clean cabin, a very nice staff. A bit disappointed with the lack of food choice and the pricey drinks.
"A very nice crossing"
I recommend Grandi Navi Veloci to go to from Genoa to Palermo. A pleasant and confortable trip. The loading and the unloading of the cars were a bit long though
"tour on sicil"
ship, especially the interiors of the cabins were great. The embarkation and disembarkation, I can only describe as chaotic because the staff was extremely hectic instructions were that contributed more to confusion than to speed. the separation of the driver and other occupants remained incomprehensible, an explanation would have been helpful. Our impression: the organization should be optimized.
"A trip to Sicily"
Our crossing went well, although ou seats booking was not respected. During the morning, we used the deck chairs to enjoy the sun. The prices on board are a bit high. As a result, families bring what they neeed. We were disapppointed that the cleaning of the decks start when the passengers are on the seats. The swimming-pool was close: it's a pity for the children The bar staff could be nicer, especially with people who don't speak Italian and don't know that you need to order at the till first. Technical information about the ferry should be displayed (tonnage, speed, measurements, consumption). Apart from that, everything went well.
"Tiring, noisy, but fairly punctual"
The cabins are clean. Too many people on board. A 2 hours wait to board in Genoa and the same to disembark (as you have to vacate the cabins 2 hours before arrival) in the middle of crying kids and of people competing for the remaining seats. The deck chairs have been removed 2 hours before. The queue in the noisy cafeteria The fight to get a (broken) deck chair on the deck
"Super"
A good reception and a good journey on board….thanks
"Disappointed!"
We travelled aboard the Fantastic to go to Palermo, we were expecting a lot better. The cabin wasn't fresh (there were hair everythere, the flushing system wasn't working, the shower tray was revolting). The pool was dirty and closed. Food and drinks are very expensive, although we paid nearly 1000é for a return trip for two with a car. We came back with La Suprema, it wasn't better. The entertainment which was promised isn't provided. We'll never use this company again.
"A review of Genoa - Palermo July 2013"
During the inbound journey, there was a fool odour in the whole cabin corridor. We lacked on towel. During the outbound journey, we didn't have a ladder. We asked for it twice, but it wasn't brought to us.
"Crossing Genoa - Palermo and back "
Staff friendly and helpful, except employees at the bar!
"A trip from Genoa to Palermo from 27/08/2013 to 28/08/2013"
A superb trip, pleasant. The prices on board are fairly high. Some of the staff is unpleasant with French speaking customers. I recommend to book a cabin rather than a seat if you are travelling with a group. The boat was clean when boarding, but some passengers throws papers and food on the floor. Access to the (small) swimming pool is limited. Despite of that, I would not hesitate to use this company again
"More a mini cruise than a ferry crossing"
Confortable cabin. The restaurant is good and afforable. It's better than the self-service restaurant which is invaded by the crowd in July
"Genoa-Palermo-Genoa "
Simple and speditives check. Pleasant atmosphere on board. We were completely satisfied and will book again.
"Cleaning needs improvement"
A very good trip in good conditions. On schedule. Not enough deckchairs (and broken). Dirty sink.
"Fairly good"
I go with this ferry very frequently but the staff are so rude. The ship is clean and the food and drinks are very expensive.
"Good crossing"
Trip to Sicily went without a hitch. Nice welcome from the crew onboard. Cabin was clean. Didn't eat anything on the ship because prices where too expensive. Other than that, all was good.
"Can do better"
Hi. We are used to Costa and MCS cruise, and we can say that service and niceness are not the strong point of your staff on bord. Moreover, things are overpriced. The worse thing is the organisation to leave the boat. Anyway the price is ok.
"Fast boarding"
Excellent booking service, fast boarding, but after an hour of departure the bathrooms were filthy.
"Services"
The crossing was good, the staff was welcoming. However, the meal we had at the self-service restaurant was cold. Everything was cold from the meat to the fries and the vegetables. The swimming pool wasn't available, although it was the end of June.
"Route Genova-Palermo 10/06/2013"
Great Journey , excellent service
"Journey- Genova-Palermo"
Long Journey but nice one
"Infinity cruise "
In perfect weather, no swell nothing, and then the delay! Something didnt work. Otherwise not too bad.
"disaster "
did not meet in any way the promissses of the advertising on the homepage. Never again!
"Wonderful trip "
I was lucky, the weather was great ... blue sky. The only Thing, not much choice of food and expensive beverages like coke (4 euros) except italian coffee ... :-)
"MSc Splendid"
Terrible crossing from Palermo to Genoa, delay, despite the beautiful aesthetic line of the ship. The return on the Supreme was much more efficient.
"Everything OK "
Clearance was rapidly and smooth.
"High quality food"
I live in Piedmont, but I spend long periods in Sicily, where I have a house for holidays. When I prefer the car on the cruise from Genoa to Palermo or vice versa. I learned to appreciate the quality of service offered by GNV. I particularly enjoyed the variety and quality of food.
"My impressions"
The outbound journey was very good. The staff was cheerful and welcoming. The inbound journey wasn't as good. We couldn't close the bathroom door and we were stung. Everything was good apart from that. I recommend that ferry, because it is good.
"Palermo - Genoa"
We took the ship to return to Milan from Sicily and we enjoyed it. The navigation went well. The staff was friendly. We did not use the restaurant, but of course the bar on the ship was expensive.
"Canceled trip "
On 07.06.2013/10: 30 nightly trip was canceled via SMS. No alternatives were announced and under the specified information line heard only music. So we had no choice but to go to the office of Grandi Navi in Palermo. The return was made until 24 hours later. We suspect that the reason was that the rides from 7.6. and 8.6. were poorly booked and society together put two unprofitable trips to a profitable.
"Thanks a lot "
Excellent offer. Excellent cabin, great ship.
"Impressions of a second crossing with grandi navi veloci (barcelona-porto-torres)"
We were very satisfied with the trip. The staff is very nice and the boat is confortable. However, the waiting times when boarding and disembarking are a bit tired, although they are mandatory.
"Comfortable ship"
We had a cabin with porthole for these crossings. Very quiet cabin. Comfortable liner. Warning breakfast is only served until 9:30. Only downside: the upper deck is flooded with dogs (although this part of the boat is normally forbidden to them).
"Comfortable"
Excellent comfortable ferry. The dining chairs do smell though and could do with a change or a clean.
"Simple ship"
The ferry was fine. Simple ship, cabin came with a good bed. Breakfast was a bit on the pricey side though.
"Could have been better"
The Florencia is a small ferry and 9 years old. From the outside not very trustworthy, from the inside ok. During the 20hour crossing there were only two warm meals served, tasted good, portions were small and it was expensive. Otherwise there were only bread rolls you could buy. Tables were cleared swiftly and mosly tidy. Toilets were not clean and soap was missing. If you don’t have a cabin there a hardly any possibilities to sleep. Not comfortable seats just benches and uncomfortable chairs. On the outside sun-deck” you couldn’t sit down except on the dirty floor. In terms of entertainments there was just some tv’s running non stop. Lighting was dimmed either at night. We were one and half hours late and in general this seems very long as there wasn’t anything to do. Positive was the price without a cabin.
"No alternative"
Grandi Navi and Tirrenia carved up some routes so GNV have a monopoly on this one, so one has no choice other than to do the drive (assuming you ferry with a vehicle) right through Italy over the straits and on into Sicily, a tedious experience. Thus the company doesn't need to provide anything to attract customers, just the bog standard journey and ordinary catering. The thing I dread most is being turfed out of one's cabin two, I repeat TWO hours before arrival so staff can get in and prepare cabins for the return journey. As if one didn't pay enough and as if Grandi Navi didn't rake in enough from the masses of cars lorries and people travelling, they could do this after docking. So then you have to mill around the ship in the crowds (and this last journey for me there wasn't a single seat to be had - I had to sit on stairs). Once I had to wait nearly 2 hours to drive off, god knows what happened, but this time just a mere 45 minutes. (Tip; the later you drive on, the more likely you are to be in higher garages, B, C or D (unlike me in A, mistake) and able to get off sooner and resume your journey. All in all, a depressing and dispiriting introduction to an Italian monopoly taking advantage of its position and putting its own interests before its customers. (My first ferry leg with DFDS does not include such humiliation, even though they alone do the Newcastle to Ijmuiden route, and they provide nice entertainment and don't winkle you out of your cabin and treat you like the proverbial).
"shortcut between Palermo and Genova"
We had a relaxed trip from Palermo to Genoa. The ship and its crew are not for luxury but OK. Private cars are exposed to weather and salt spray on the upper deck outside. The cabins appeared to be clean and quiet. The food is not cheap but rather basic.
"Good value for money"
Very functional. Value for money.
"A Bad Journey"
The initial impression of the 2/3 berth outside cabin was most favourable as it was noticeably larger and had much more storage space than the same class in other shipping lines I am familiar with (TT-line, German, and DFDS, Danish). The bathroom, also, was particularly well-designed and the shower drained without spilling over onto the floor. The bathroom appeared spotlessly clean but the floor of the cabin had not been cleaned as there were bits of paper, thread, dirt, etc. on it. Otherwise, the trip was a nightmare. In general, the crew were unhelpful, rude and downright offensive. Specifically, a request for our cabin key was reluctantly answered by a stony face and pointing finger, after which the crew member turned her back on us. The reception area operated as a social centre for members of the crew: passengers requiring assistance or information had to wait until one of the ladies at the desk could drag herself away from gossiping/flirting. Food was served for one and a half hours for breakfast and at lunch time. There were no other cooked meals available. There was little choice and food was not labelled. Two and a half hours before we docked in Genoa we were ordered via the intercom to leave our cabins and collect in the public lounge. This was insufficiently large for the vast numbers of people ordered to assemble there. This was not an emergency: it was apparently regular practice as the cleaning staff needed the time to clean the cabins for the return journey. The public lounge was not a viable, comfortable area for so many people, especially those who are old and/or, like myself, suffering from a debilitating, fatal illness. Nevertheless, a male cleaner burst into our cabin and started screaming and shouting at us when I refused to get up and leave. Having paid for the cabin I saw no reason for not using it when I needed it. Without asking in any language, he used our telephone to speak to the desk, then handed the phone to me. I listened to a woman who ordered me rudely to leave in five minutes. I explained why I could not and received no answer other than 'five'. In the end we stayed in our cabin, repeatedly harrassed and interrupted until about fifteen minutes before the call for passengers to go to their cars. We spent this time sitting on a bench for wheelchair passengers in the reception area. During this time a number of German foot passengers were herded to the escalator to get their tour bus. Their comments on the crew as 'like Nazi concentration camp guards' were interesting! The ladies had little English or German and since most of their passengers were English and/or German speaking, communication was impaired. This was not helped by a poor quality intercom: it was impossible to hear announcements even if the speakers could produce good quality language. If Grandi Navi Veloci are interested in providing an attractive service they need to reorganise their cleaning schedules and cleaning staff, give adequate training in customer relations to all staff, including training in the relevant aspects of a suitable international language, and promote the attitude that La Suprema is run for the benefit of the customer – the passengers – and not the crew.
"Travel in Sicily"
The trip was restful. I had few contacts with the crew, only during the embarkation and disembarkation. The staff was friendly. Ships are a bit dated and the cleanliness of the toilet and of the area chairs is not very accurate (because of the passengers too) I used to travel overland, but the trip was relaxing and perhaps a little boring.
"Not the best trip"
We were many hours late, arriving close to midnight instead of the planned 2100 or so, meaning hotels were a problem for many. The worst part was being charged 29€ for our small dog, then another deposit 5€ for a lock, only to find out they wanted us to put our dog in a cage outside, on top of a steel grate. This was totally unacceptable and we would not have taken this trip had we known these circumstances. Since we were late the food was compensated, and it was good and the room was generally clean and as good as on other ships we have taken.
"Travelled at Easter to Palmero"
My only complaint is that it is not possible to get a coffee during the night a small automatic machine would be very popular with travellers.
"La Suprema"
La Suprema is a nice clean ship. I travelled as a single woman and felt at ease. The rooms are large and comfortable, staff helpful, they speak few languages outside Italian. We was four hours late leaving, after a long wait in Tunis, but we made time up well and was barely half an hour late arriving in Genoa. On and off the ship was a very smooth process.
