On arriving at the boat by navette there are no instructions or directions for foot passengers on how to board the boat. We were turned back after taking the wrong route. The seating facilities in the small cafeteria are completely inadequate making it necessary to return to our Pullman seats to drink coffee .Ironically there are locked seating areas on the boat which are unusable.The main restaurant was without quality, it was understandably empty and it was expensive.The self service provided the worst type of motorway service food and again was very poor value for money. The coffee in the cafeteria was very good and the staff helpful.the cleaning staff were excellent polite and competent. Exiting the boat was just as bad as boarding with no directions for foot passengers. The lift capacity totally inadequate.Seating facilities around the boat were almost non existant. There was no provision of any information indicating where the boat was along the trip.I have sailed this route on other GNV ships and never experienced a vessel with such total lack of quality.
"Poor timekeeping, Mo upadates"
Between the time I booked and the saiing date, the arrival rime was made 4 hours later. The departure was then delayed a further 4 hours. We expected the arrival to be delayed too and migh have planned for it, but both the onshore booking office and the staff on the boat continued to quote the official arrival time. Because of the late arrival we missed our onward connection at Tangier town. I accept that delays may be unavoidable, but public-facing staff need to be able to provide more realistic expectations when such situations arise.

I was a bit worried about this journey as a nervous traveller and having read the poor reviews. But in the event it was a great trip. We left on time, and the ship was clean. It was a bit confusing knowing where to go and when we could access the ship as a foot passenger, but staff were helpful. I had booked a shared cabin but was lucky to have it to myself. A great night's sleep despite choppy seas and a group of school children! My only complaint is that we didn't disembark until nearly 2 hours after the scheduled arrival time. I didn't use the restaurant so can't comment.

Staff seemed overwhelmingly incompetent and management processes and policy leave much to be desired. The ferry was late arriving by over an hour (7.30am) and then the crew would not allow foot passengers to disembark for over another hour - it was 8.40 when we finally got off. Because of this we missed our train connections to Pisa and had to buy 2 new txts at considerable expense. We will never use NGV ferries again and advise tourists to find other routes. These people are hopeless, unfriendly and extremely unhelpful. A zero rating from us!
"Reassuringly chaotic."
Booking was a doddle online, however what’s not clear is that you have to appear in person in Naples to check-in earlier in the day, pick a time when other boats aren’t departing or park outside the port & walk in or it’ll take hours to fight through the traffic. There are plenty of places to eat & drink nearby if you don’t want to leave your car & wander into town, you’ll need to be well fed & watered to get through the chaos of boarding, get your elbows out, hurry up & wait seems to be the order of the day, after a lengthy wait round the back of a warehouse we finally boarded, note if you’re driving anything oversized you’ll likely be reversing on, get some practice in! We booked a 4 person suite with a complimentary minibar, there were two towels in the shower and the minibar was crammed with two bottles of water, this was obviously not an all inclusive cruise, can’t comment on the restaurant as we took pizza with us... Rest of the journey was uneventful, the boat was old but clean, getting off we waited to be told to proceed to the car deck, eventually we got bored and wandered down to find everyone had gone & we were the last to get off.

The ferry left a little late and we didn't get off until an hour and a 20 minutes after we were due to be off, then again were waiting so delayed our journey. Room was dirty, the tap was leaking and the shower head broken so it was like washing with a hose. Very noisy but that was expected. One bar we had to leave because they couldn't accept card. The restaurant on board was good.
"Naples to Palermo and back"
Took a ferry from Naples to Palermo and back on late September 2016. Easy boarding and disembarking. Nice on board restaurant. Had a 4 berth cabin with sea view and we were very pleased with the cleanliness and comfort of it. The ferry arrived with a slight delay in both directions, but both times we were out of the port before 8:00.

Although the actual time spent on the boat was extremely pleasant, and everything on board was great (restaurants, private cabins etc...), we were asked to turn up 3 hours before departure of boat, only to discover that our boat had not yet arrived, and we left with 2 hours' delay....We were told that we had been asked to arrive early for security reasons, but there was no security check, so all in all it was a very irritating 5 hour wait .
"What A Trip"
I had booked to travel with my wife overnight on the evening of Friday 26 August from Naples to Palermo. GNV have nice ships. The boat was due to leave at 9 pm. Check in is supposed to be no later than one hour before. I planned to leave Amalfi down the coast at 6 giving 90 minutes to arrive, but that very morning I received an email from Direct Ferries advising the boat was going to depart one hour earlier at 8pm, and that we should check in no later than 4 hours before that at 4pm. My hotel checked with GNV and I checked online with Direct Ferries and decided I both advised I should heed the request to be there 4 hours before the new departure time; I decided we would have to waste the afternoon, would leave at 3pm, arriving at 4.30. Imagine my surprise when all passengers had to wait in the heat with no waiting area and with no explanation, or apology, to board at 9 and departing at 9.30. What a way to run a service. At the least there was no need to turn up early and GNV and Direct Ferries could have advised this. Imagine there being no explanation for why there was the delay. Won't be using that service again, and neither should you.
"Great service"
We had an excellent experience on this trip. Delicious pizza eaten and a very comfortable and clean family suite. Only small grumble was being told of arrival at 7am when we actually arrived after 8.30 = lost sleep!!
"Good cabin, punctual(ish) but terrible food!"
Arriving at the port of Naples its not entirely clear where to go - you need to check in first at an office and then wait until 2hours before departure. We found a small waiting area by Hertz rental car but other than this you are left to bake in the car park. You board via the car entry which is a little odd but we were escorted the entire way by a friendly crew member. Double cabin was clean and big enough, frequent updates on restaurants and departure given in English via tannoy, staff were all helpful. We bought prepaid meals which whilst decent value were by far the worst meal we have ever had in Italy - Id recommend you bring your own food on board. We departed only 15 mins behind schedule and arrived at about 7am, free shuttle bus to port entrance. All in all a decent ferry experience and one I would gladly do again (with my own dinner!).

Everything was better than my expectations. The only down side was that there was no wifi within the ship.

Makes excellent use of time. Getting to and from the ship to hotel or rail needs claricatin on and more information. I.e. Safe Alternatives for walk on/off passengers. Else we enjoyed it. See you soon.

I Went from Napoli to Palermo and after some days came back With a car and my parents and sister. The cabins were very clean, the atendents very helpful, the restaurants very good For sure is a better way for going to Sicili !!! I recomend !!

The volume of the tv in the common area was to loud, especially for who was sittinr right under it, they could not even look correctly ad the screen because of the too close position. It would be better to instal more than one speacker around the area to keep the volume lower and not only one at the front making all this noise to let hear people at the back. The cleaning on board was excellent 9, restaurant really good 8, staff 9 (all kind and friendly, at the restaurant, in the garage), excellent even the comfort of the seats and the space. See next time.

Too bad the still in 2015 you have to do the check in on site. The toilet in the cabin was not working and the others were always busy, it was not nice to sleep with that kind of smell around.. Sorry but I had to say it.

The ship had a problem with the conditioner system and inside the cabin it was too hot. Carpet are so old and dirty, you must replace it with mwatefproof and washable material because it is not hygienic. Good services: cafè/restaurants/shops. The speaker shoul tell customer about the arrive only half an hour before and not ever five minutes for the last hours of the route. Comfortable beds inside the cabin. Professional and polite staff.

I booked a berth and I realized (with pleasure) that it was in a privet cabin. Ship was comfortable, had everything I needed for a nice trip. Shame for boarding and landing procedure, long and tyring. As I am traveling with no vehicle I cannot understand why I have to be at the port 2 hours before the departure considering that I only have to show my ticket while I am boarding. With Tirrenia is doing so. Easy.

"Almost a cruise"
Our trip started with a breathtaking sunset combined with a glorious view throughout the calm crossing: San Martino Certosa, the dome Cathedral, the Vesuvius and the Sorrento peninsula! We left the Gulf of Naples and found ourselves admiring the beautiful cost and the nearby islands. When it got dark, we had dinner in a comfortable and clean restaurant, the risotto was excellent. We reserved a cabin and we rest well after a long walk. The ferry arrived in Palermo on time. I have to say that the crossing was perfect, a mini cruise experience! The only flaw was the quality of the port services. To get to the embarkation point there are no directions and GNV ticket office doesn't have a waiting room and private facilities.

I don't have much experience about ship in general. I know a bit about ferries. I can say that my experience with GNV has been positive! The only flaw was that there are no seats on the lower decks outside. To find a seat, if you wish to get some fresh air, you have to go to the last deck and if you are a senior it can be quite tiring!!!

The day I booked I also read a lots of bad reviews about the ship that gave me nightmars during the night....I was anxious till the departure day. The ship (Snav Lazio) was clean, toilets were smelling very good and they were shining, the staff was helpful and kind, everything went perfectly! I will use again Snav to travel to Sisily, excellent quality and price.

"All good but a big problem..."
Nothing to say about the transport. Punctual departure and arrival, quiet crossing, efficient and well maintained ships, nice accomodations. Not really good service at the restaurant. The staff in the garage did not give us proper information about how to reach the upper level of the ship. The way out is really hampered by trucks, chains on the floor. It is really dangerous! I saw with my own eyes a family wit little kids walk in front a truck few seconds before it stated moving!!! ABSOLUTELY DANGEROUS!!!
"Met expectations"
The ship is easy to access in the Palermo harbour. The little sign showing the entrance to the loading dock could be enlarged. We had to circle around the busy waterfront street twice before we found it. The ticket office is behind the entrance barrier to the loading dock and the signage indicates SNAV rather than Grand Navi Velocity. It's all rather obvious after you figure it out but a nuisance the first time. Don't panic, you will find it and if you are arriving two hours ahead as they suggest you have plenty of time. The best part is the rooms and beds. They are clean, comfortable and the berth is spacious and very quiet. We did have only two people in a berth that had 2 sets of bunk beds so it would be a bit crowded with 4. 2 children would be fine. We only took overnight bags from the car so avoided tripping over luggage. The food is not great. Good selection from the buffet at resonable prices but not hot enough. There is a microwave that you can use to heat it up. The trip was on schedule and met our expectations.

this was our first time taking an overnight Ferry. Much of it was frustrating for the following reasons: 1. There was no information that told us to go to reception to get our room key so we went directly to the room and then had to move our baggage twice. 2. On the trip from Napoli to Palermo the speaker system was impossible to understand either in Italian or English. 3. On the trip from Palermo to Napoli the staff insisted that my wife get out of the car and climb the stairs to board, which is difficult for her as she has a bad hip. This was not the case on the trip from Napoli to Palermo. 4. On the Napoli-Palermo trip we tried to buy a drink at the bar and the bartender told us he could not make change for a 20 euro bill. That is intolerable. On the positive side, the meals at the restaurant were very good and relatively well priced; The accommodations were clean and reasonably comfortable; the staff was friendly and helpful for the most part, except for the one who insisted my wife walk up the stairs to board and the bartender who refused to accept the 20 euro bill for our drinks saying he had no change.

The ferry worked out well from Naples to Sicily we got to sleep as some one made the trip to Sicily for you, the on and off was easy the food was ok the ship rooms were clean. You are only on board 10 hours and the price was reasonable. Nice views coming in n out of both ports. Make use in Palermo of the free shuttle to the main gate.

I travelled with a Snav ship, not sure if the Lazio or Sardegna. There was a difference respect the past years. The catering service is not the best, too expensive. Same for the self-service. People travelling from Napoli or Palermo usually buy sandwich and drinks before to get on board, it's cheaper. We notice that the kennels are now better, but pets should have an area only for them.

I think it's fair to say that even if I booked with 2 months in advance, they gave me a cabin on the deck close to the ship's engines. So I had to ask for another cabin paying €40 more. That's the only negative thing that I can say. The departure was on time and the trip relaxing. Best Regards

We have been travelling overnight from Palermo to Naples. The ship left on time and facilities where clean. With a good nights sleep on the floor we safely arrived. Not only the magic sunrise on Naples and the Vesuv was worth going. Take earplugs to sleep, because at every corner shouts TV.

I was assigned an internal cabin for two people in which the beds had been described as a castle. The negative aspect was that the cabin was located on deck 2, which is the lower of the ship, even lower than the lower parking deck. It was a challenge to go to deck 7 and 8 (reception, bar, restaurant, etc.): the lift were always full.

The crossing was pleasant, the staff in Palermo gave proper information. It's a shame about the confusion at arrival (unaudible messages, even in English). Why not using information boards? The food is ordinary.

Unfortunately I made a mistake with the reservation so I went with "Autostrade del Mare" instead of GNV, the cabin that we has was too small and the beds uncomfortable. We are elderly people and in the return my husband preferred to sleep in the little sofa, the ship was really old, only redeeming factor was that the staff were quite nice I hope they don't loose the job for all of those inconveniences.

This is one of the longer ferry routes I've used so i was not sure what to expect. The signage at the port in Palermo could have been better - most signs at the port were outdated and I kept driving into the wrong entry ways. At the ticket office there are not signs telling you when the office is open, where to go or where to park and wait. however once staff did show up the process was quick and efficient. We boarded about 2.5 hours ahead of departure and I had the chance to go around the ship. The cabins were basic but comfortable. Each cabin can sleep four, but as I was on my own this trip there was plenty of room. The shower/washroom was fine, but take your own soap! and an extra towel of your own if you you're one of those people who need more than one. The staff were friendly, the food in the formal restaurant was very good and reasonably priced. Overall I enjoyed the trip and would travel again with GNV and on the Lazio.

Night voyage, save money and time. A safe, steady, and comfortable sleep. You can also enjoy the twilight of dawn and dusk. The habor of Napoli is beautiful at night. There are some entertainment on board, but most time spent in the sleep. Take 151 to V. Colombo.
"Overnight travel value"
Using the overnight ferry between Naples and Palermo achieved two purposes, firstly it achieved our means of transport between the two places and secondly provided overnight accommodation, so avoiding the need for a hotel booking for the night. Food on board was good and we arrived early in the morning refreshed and ready for more sightseeing

I would say that everything was exceptionally good: the schedule, the cleanliness, the attention, the food, I would even say the prices. The only thing I would say is that I reserved a suite for 4 people for €235 and they alloted me a cabin with 4 berths. I thought they were uncomfortable and dangerous.

This was mt first trip from Palermo to Napoli by ship and I must say that it was a very pleasant surprise. Our cabin was very clean and comfortable, the ship restaurant had a large variety of dishes and the ship was extremely punctual. It is also a good choice for people who want to bring their car from Sicily to the mainland.

The outbound journey has been perfect. Regarding the return journey from Palermo to Naples the disembark operations have been very long (the ferry arrived at h06.30 and we disembarked at h08.00). Overall it went all well.

I had a bad experience because the members of the staff in the ferry didn't personally check the occupation of the seats from the other passengers and not everybody had the opportunity to sit. Also the procedure of embarking/disembarking was really slow in compare with the others companies.

I travelled with Grandi Navi Veloci from Naples to Palermo in August. The ferry is very big and comfortable. in the seating area there are 2 different seats types, the standard and those wider and comfortable (but not suitable for sleeping) but they are not numbered. So, first come, first served. On the return, we preferred sleeping on the floor with some guys equipped with mats, pillows and blankets. It was better than the seats. The only flaw was the air conditioning...it was too strong, you need a jacket and blanket to sleep.

Overall this trip was comfortable and pleasant. Enjoyed the evening departure from Palermo to watch the sun set. Cabin was small but adequate - no clear instructions to get the air conditioner working so found it stuffy until that was rectified. Meal in restaurant was first class.

We booked a crossing between Napoli and Palermo. On the electronic tickets, it was only written Grandi Navi Veloci. We had to look for a long time, before finding the boarding place and discover that the tickets were to be collected at the SNAV ticket offices. The boat was good and the crossing went well otherwise, except for the restaurant where they allow you to seat at 9.30pm, but make you understand right away that you must leave because they are closing.

Everything was very acceptable except the LACK OF AIR in cabin, it was stifling! My wife stayed in the cabin overnight, I stayed on deck the most of night for fresh air, with a few periods in a room with 100 empty seats in it near a very noisy disco or some form of entertainment.

I can recommend this ferry. Check-in was well organized with plenty of staff and there was no waiting. Just two hours before departure, the car was on board. The deck staff was friendly. staff in self-service bar very friendly, as well as the restaurant were good. The cabin was a little worn, but still quite acceptable.

Despite its age the ferry was most comfortable - we had a family suite for just two of us - well worth the extra - and I'd certainly book that again. The ferry was not that busy so not all restaurants/food areas were open but we ate in the pizza restaurant and the pizzas were as good as any we had in Naples (the home of the pizza!!). Our one issue was that we booked this particular ferry because it was supposed to be a 12 hr crossing, docking (later than the alternatives) at 8am .... The wake-up tannoy started just after 5am inviting us to breakfast and we docked at 6.30am. When we questioned the info desk they said it was always this time.....!!! So - if you want a pleasant crossing - great, but don't expect a long night's sleep!!
"Naples to Palermo"
Allow plenty of time to find the ferry and the office to get your ticket. Loading was very smooth. Had a huge lunch so didn't eat much on board. Coffee was OK. My cabin was comfortable and clean. A great way to get around.
"Lovely way to arrive to Sicily"
My partner and I travelled from Naples to Palermo. We had an inside cabin for two on the very bottom deck. We got worried first that there will be a lot of noise from the engine, but the only thing we could hear were the waves. The beds were very comfy and the bathroom clean and user-friendly. There are several places where you can eat on the ship and the prices in the bistro as well as the quality of the food are decent. Wifi didn't work, but it didn't matter too much. We arrived on time and were woken up about 1 hour before landing by a PA. Overall, a lovely way to travel.
"Return Jorney"
In contrast to the departure from Civitavecchia to Palermo, which I didn't find very comfortable, the return journey was really great. The ship was really comfortable, clean and not crowded at all. The bar service was open all the night long and all the services like the shops and the restaurant were very good. I would make this trip again.

Starting time for a pleasant voyage on a spacious and very clean ship. Staff very friendly board, either at the reception or during dinner service. I will be back for this experience.

You have to check the arrival time of the ship, because it doesn’t correspond to the one indicated on the site (arrival time 8.00 but the ship arrived at 6.30 + the time for landing operations. we landed at 7.15). Regarding this problem, a manager told me that I had to turn to the Agency, it’s not their fault The quality of the food is bad (cold and prepared in advance), including croissants at the bar, especially those filled with jam (soft, greasy and jam dated). The sink had a hole and dropped water on the floor. Door broken and the bath towel was placed in the spice rack.

Although we took a cabin without window, it was comfortable and clean. Excellent organization for the vehicle landing.
"Palermo to Naples ferry"
We really enjoyed our overnight trip! The ship was essentially a giant cruise ship rather than a ferry boat. While the facilities did look a little bit old, the cabin was great and the beds very comfortable. My only warnings to other potential riders would be that the food is expensive onboard and the announcements about arrival start at 5:30 AM! There is also no signs at the ports at either Palermo or Naples about where to go or what to do.
