"Unzuverlässig"
Achtung bei Buchungen bei Stena Line! Es wird mit günstigen Preisen bei früher Buchung geworben und dann der Fahrplan geändert. Wer schon seine Zugreise zum Hafen gebucht hatte, hat halt Pech gehabt. Die Rückreise wurde kurzfristig gestrichen. Am Service kann echt noch gearbeitet werden.
"Great experience "
Lovely sailing beautiful ship, very clean great choice of food staff very nice and welcoming, cabins small but comfortable
"Extraordinary Customer Service!"
I cannot say enough good things about the entire staff aboard the Stena line ferry between France and Ireland. They went far above and beyond the norm, when my cat escaped my car and the boat crew spent hours searching for, successfully! Thank you, Stena Line!
"Not sure if I should recommend your company "
Well, before arriving in Cherbourg, I had to go to the toilet. While on the loo, one of the staff came and asked if there was anybody in there? At the same time, there were lots of announcements being made. When, I came out from the toilet, I discovered that the front toilet door has been locked from the outside. I managed to open the door from the inside. So, now imagine the reaction of a small child, someone who didn't hear the person asking if there were anyone inside, a blind individual or a death! For few seconds I felt a sense of panic.
"Lovely ferry crossing from France to Ireland"
The 15 hour trip was made more enjoyable by the staff and the amenities on board. I booked the reclining chair initially, but couldn't take the extreme vibrations and noise. I ended up upgrading to a cabin (relatively affordable, but only if available). Meals were included in my ticket, and were reasonably good. The organisation on the Cherbourg side was not th greatest, as it was a lot of waiting, driving to the next point, waiting some more, driving to the next point, waiting some more.
"Rosslare to Cherbourg- Stena Line"
The friendliest staff that I have ever encountered on a ferry crossing. They were all really obliging and lovely.
"i loved it"
it was such a pleasure getting the ferry from rosslare to cherbourg. first of all the ferry terminal in rosslare is brilliant. the coffee dock cafe was so good and the food they served was so reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. toasted sandwiches and egg salad. two dinners it was so good. lovely calm ferry terminal and very friendly helpful staff. then the crossing was remarkably smooth and we got into cherbour two hours early! bonus! i loved it.
"Guests "
My experience the ferry was good the stuff is very nice they help u with any thing, j I thing is nice definitely will go on it again
"Happy sailor"
Clean comfortable room and an enjoyable trip
"Trelavel"
The best
"Stenaline"
It's a fine ferry service and completely what I expected. The food is a little small and plain. Cabins are very difficult to get maybe there are only a few or more likely they are reserved for delivery drivers. This is the most inconvenient part of the experience as a holiday maker. I will use Stenaline again if only for the price and the staff are wonderful and friendly.
"declined seat"
We ordered a declined seat to be able to have some sleep, like indicated on the site of Stena lines. The room with the seats seems to be very close to the engine room. Inside the " resting" room was continuously 73DB. With this kind of sound, you can never get any sleep. Passengers just taking a bench in the ´restaurant (far from the engine) could sleep a lot better without any payment for reservation. Not sleeping for 17,5 hours because they ripped you of with a declining seat in a room with 73 DB. Not really the best way to start a holiday.
"Very good,nice..."
Very good. Thank you
"direct ferry useless "
I will recommand Stena to my friend but not using direct line to book a ferry when Stena decide to change to time of sealing direct ferry do not forward thne new it is better tobook directly to Stena instead . On January 5 the time of sealing to Cherbourg was early but I wasn't aware to I miss the ferry did I get any information from direct ferry nothing
"Cherbourg to ireland"
Wouldn’t let me and my family on the ship because Ireland has changed the law on covid my two son aren’t vaccinated and just had antigen done 10 mins before we arrived at the port…. Now they have rescheduled our ship till Sunday… now my trip is going to cost me another €600 hotel and covid tests….
"Great experience "
Fantastic crew. Food in restaurant was great. Always a can do attitude with the crew. Clean cabins. Due to bad weather we left Cherbourg half hour early. But it was extremely bad weather and arrived in Rosslare twenty minutes late.
"Great crossing"
Very impressed with stenaline. They got me a cabin as was sitting up the crossing.( Was Unable to book cabin, sold out) The staff on the ferry were so friendly and accommodating. From the time on board until departure. The cabins were very clean and comfortable. The food was very nice. Would definitely use Stenaline again 😊
"Fantastic staff!"
Everybody was very helpful, especially the Philipino waiter in the bar
"Friendly and efficient service"
We were particularly impressed by the attention we received on board from all STENA personnel.
"Feedback StenaLine"
I had a reclining seat for the crossing where I was supposed to sleep. I couldn't sleep at all because of the noise but mostly because of the cold.
"Excellent"
The staff is very friendly and helpful. The boat is very clean. The cabin was very clean too and very comfortable. The restaurant is very good 👍.
"home safe thank you stena"
great trip back from france the only one point I will make and that I will never use direct ferries again no help when trying to contact shut down there phone lines
"Good crossing to Rosslare but bad coming back"
Didn't book a cabin this time and found the ship extremely cold overnight. We did book 'reclining seats' but found that room again extremely cold as well as very noisy. The seats were also not very comfortable hence people sleeping on the floor.
"Cherbourg-Rosslare "
Very good !
"Rosslare to Cherbourg "
The boat was cancelled because of a storm and I am booked to go out on Tuesday. I have made three return trips with Stena since you limited the restaurant to truckers only. I really resent being treated like a second class citizen with a less extensive menu .
"Great trip"
Very friendly and professional personnel, great voyage
"Never again!"
We were a bit surprised with our recent experience. We have travelled back & forth to the UK on numerous occasions over the last 10 years and to be honest we were expecting a little better with Stena line. The top bunks in the cabin were very uncomfortable and there was no pocket or shelf within reach to put phone, glasses etc. The breakfast was (a) barely warm and (b) overpriced. Rather than the simple choose any 5/6 for a set price there is a breakfast and a vegetarian breakfast. If you want a breakfast with mushrooms and tomato, then the staff find it nigh on impossible to accommodate you! Another shocker, given the ports of call, was the price of wine...an average of €16 per bottle!!! Luckily we won't be driving to Ireland any time in the foreseeable future, but neither will we be recommending Stena line :-(
"personeel"
"Great team, facilities with free wifi"
Thank you for the trip, the team is welcoming and available, the facilities are clean. Free wifi all the time.
"Negative experience"
Everything was almost ok with the important exception of the reclining seats room. It was strongly affected by engines vibrations, The noise lebvel was very high and it was impossible to sleep. Many people preferred to go to sleep outside (bar or corridors) and sleep on the floor instead to stay in this room.
"Recent trip from Cherbourg to Rosslare "
It's definitely a 'no frills' trip & as long as this is explicit - fine. Having been used to Irish Ferries I can say this was in no way comparable; Irish Ferries is luxury in comparison - particularly in the catering department. However cabins were comparable to any other ships in my experience & the trip was uneventful, so all in all fine, as opposed to being great!
"Cabins "
I booked with you and was led to believe ihad booked a cabin both ways to my disappointment I was told I was not the only customer to be confused With their booking with you. Soo slept on a seat
"Nightmare"
Worst journey I have ever had , just want to erase it from my memory.
"Very good experience "
Overall we had a very good experience. The ship and cabin were clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and there were some on board activities to entertain kids.cinema choices were excellent. Food was only ok. Not at the same standArd as the rest of the ship
"Irish holidays"
Having travelled by boat for 50 years between France and Ireland, I have been on different ship companies ; however we have used Stena Line ever since it started on Cherbourg-Rosslare . It has improved every year and can now cope with quite a big number of passengers . There seems to be less livestock but certainly more truckers. bikers and families. It is quite pleasant with plenty of space , televisions and bars. And now Wi-Fi ! And it is VERY punctual in general.
"Fabulous Fernando !"
Kind, caring and most helpful in finding me and my daughter 2 spacious and comfortable seats to sleep 😴 upon for the night 👌😀
"Long delay before checking and boarding"
I was advised that check-in would be open at 18.15 but they did not open until nearly 19.00. After check-in there was then a very long delay before boarding. I'm never going to get there that early again for a Stenaline ferry, too much time wasted. Irish ferry's are a much more efficient service and by far the best ferry with the new WB Yates. Only I could not get a cabin with them so had to go Stena???
"Awful"
Literally the worse crossing ever... Its 0215, i should be asleep in the room i paid for but theres a really loud bang every fee minutes which shakes the whole cabin. I asked to change room and the man, though very nice, said he couldnt help. Ive sailed on a lot of ferries, this my first time on Stena.... Its disgraceful and a complete waste of money spent on a cabin
"Good service "
Service was good, quite noisy in the resting chairs, food was good and the staff were pleasant. Ship docked in time
"No soap"
It was great that there is free WiFi on board. But in the cabins there is no soap provided in the bathrooms
"Excellent Staff."
Thé staff are always pleasant, charming, helpful. Thé cabin was clean and comfortable. Thé food in thé restaurant is never good so we try to avoid it. I must add though that we arrivéd 3 hours before departure and we joined thé waiting queue (After 8 jours drive). Thén we watched as those who arrivéd 10 minutes before boarding were waved on first.
"No showers"
No showers. Very long delay after docking to get off ship. If a person can not book a cabin I would assume a t least a shower facility would be available.
"Clean comfy stay."
Clean comfy stay, albeit we had no cobin.
"Irlandreise"
In der Hauptsaison natürlich etwas teurer, aber zuverlässig und das Personal sehr freundlich. Ich werde diese Gesellschaft immer wieder buchen.
"Cabin Noise and vibration"
Dear Stena, It is many years since I traveled by ferry. In my younger years I used to pay only for a seat. This time I decided to treat myself to a cabin. Cherbourg to Cork 15th June 20:30. I cannot find my cabin number but i think it was on the 5th floor. I was one of the furthest back cabins. The noise and vibration was deafening during the night, even with ear plugs, and I could not sleep all night. I assume I was over the engine room. I only noticed the contrast when i went to breakfast in the front of the boat the next morning . there was virtually no sound or vibration. I was informed later that the most comfortable cabins in the boat from a noise perspective, is on the 6th floor and at the front of the boat. I could only recommend this ferry if there was a choice of cabin at booking.
"Recent ferry trip to France"
I have just travelled to France and back with Stena Line on their Horizon ferry. We usually go with Irish Ferries but thought we’d try the Stena Line ferry for a change. It is much smaller in comparison and unlike the Oscar Wilde has only one restaurant and one small coffee bar selling a limited range of sandwiches. If you buy a sandwich you have to take the hand written order over to the bar to pay which means queuing up again then returning to show your receipt before collecting the sandwich. Seems very strange to me. Also there is not enough seating for everyone in the bar areas. At dinner time in the restaurant a female staff member stands guard on the way into the small dining area. My children tried to enter the area to sit at a table while my husband and I queued for food. This was not permitted and they were told “No keep table” so they had to stand bored in the queue with us instead of being able to gather cutlery and condiments so our lukewarm meal wouldn’t be completely stone cold by the time we actually got to eat. Service is very slow, particularly at breakfast when there is only one man - yes one- serving breakfast for the whole ship!! Everything is overpriced as is the norm for a ferry. Food was just ok. Our cabin was comfortable although not very clean. It was extremely noisy with music from the bar going on until the early hours. A man was shouting aggressively in French in our corridor for over an hour in the middle of the night which was a bit unsettling. On the way over the bar area was full of lorry drivers getting very drunk- not a nice start to a family holiday. WiFi is only a available in the bar and restaurant area. The shop is tiny and not a pleasant experience if there are more than two people in it. Staff were mostly pleasant and helpful. On the way over I was able to borrow a UK socket adapter as the ship has only European sockets. Overall I think we will return to Irish Ferries next time we sail to France as it is a more pleasant experience.
"Not great"
Toilets are disgusting. The reclining seat area we paid for to get some sleep is the noisiest room on the ship. It is also freezing cold and people that didn’t pay for the room came in during the night making it overcrowded. Horrible experience all round
"Pleasant and comfortable trip"
Clean, comfortable,eventhough without cabin,friendly stuff
"Cycling trip"
First time for me on such a long ferry journey. Riding my bicycle down through Ireland and across France. Stena Line provides the best option for me. I would also mention that you will need a cabin for accommodation, otherwise you will arrive in France and need to recover prior to any onward journey.
"A good ship, amazing staff."
The last time we did a journey on the ferry like this was with Irish Ferries. This trip was certainly better. The staff on this ship are incredibly friendly and keen to provide a great service. We travelled by motorcycle, the loading process was good, loader was helpful and did a good job of strapping our bike down. Our cabin was Grand. The only big gripe I had about this journey was how noisy our cabin was... we were in cabin 525 towards the aft of the ship and we could constantly hear the loud droning of the ships engine. It became unbearable after a while, we might as well have been downstairs ‘shovelling coal’. We couldn’t hear this anywhere else on the ship, so it must be down to the proximity to the engines. Maybe extra insulation, noise proofing in these cabins would help... hopefully next time we will be able to request a different cabin. Prices on board were fairly reasonable considering the scenario. The maritime. Phone network is absolutely extortionate, costing criminal rates... I know this has nothing to do with Stena Line but it might be nice to notify passengers about this to save them from any surprises on their next phone bill. Network providers do send a text but sometimes it doesn’t come through for a while. I know WiFi is via satellite and not capable of streaming but it would have been nice to be able to connect in our cabin. A good journey overall, what stood out the most was the great staff.
"Ferries direct"
The ship was fine, it's ferries direct I'm reviewing. I had a family emergency I had to get home for, rang ferries direct and was on hold for 32 minutes, also I took out flexi for an extra €20.90 with the idea of extending the stay only to be told I still had to pay the amendment fee of €25. Customer service was very disappointing, would advise NOT
"Thanks"
Thanks direct ferries
"Stenaline relaxation"
I travelled with Stenaline on their ferry Horizon from Holyhead to Dublin and it was a fantastic trip. I am disabled and the staff were excellent in making sure that everyone had their needs met including myself where I was given a parking space next to the lift where I found I could reach the upper decks with ease. Great ship great staff great trip. I took my grand daughter with me and she enjoyed every moment as well saying that the staff treated her like they had known her for years The only thing she said to me when disembarking was WHEN CAN I COME WITH YOU AGAIN That was great.
"Trip To Ireland"
Fine although departure and arrival were late
"Ideal"
Great ferry trip to Ireland from France, meant that I didn’t have to via England to get where we needed to go. Slept well, saw some dolphins just of the coast of Ireland. We are looking forward to our return journey on the 8th.
"Reliable shipping"
Im always happy to book a journey on the stena horizon... I know this ferry well and even used it when it was called celtic horizon... every time I get on board I notice new improvements and from catering to general interior design it has come a long way ... And all that with keeping the Same competent crew. It’s just nice to see familiar faces who always have a smile for you .... thanks
"Long crossing"
Staff ver y friendly. Boat clean. Cabin comfortable. Food a little expensive for the quality. No wifi available on the return trip.
"Cherbourg- Rosslare "
The trip was okay. We slept for most of the time in a cabin and leave only for some food and to have fun. Honestly the food is rubbish there, tasteless and probably made out of poor quality ingredients. The counter staff looked and acted like they there for a punishment instead of work. They didn't care. There was a Chinese girl in a buffet restaurant who definitely should be not working with food!! The Chinese bartender was the just consistently in a bad mood or something..been for a drink twice and when I saw how other people are served I lost appetite but my better half wanted a drink hence I had no choice but to be served by this man. Overall I give 2.5 stars.
"Review "
Overall, I was very pleased with the trip. We were upgraded to one of the captain’s cabins, so that was very nice. The crossing was rough, but we were not ill. The staff were friendly, the food was quite good and the staff were friendly. The boat was on time both on depart and arrival.
"Just one snag"
Firstly, I would like to thank all the staff and crew who were so very kind and helpful during my recent trip from Rosslare to Cherbourg. I had fallen down a flight of stairs the day before my trip and cracked my collar bone so was one useless arm. I was given every possible assistance. The snag, and it is a huge one, is that the design of the bunks in the cabins on board make it almost impossible to get out of bed if you are disabled or short and need to be able to push yourself up to stand. I am 80 and have arththritic hips and knees and normally need to use both hands to push myself into a standing position. With only one useable hand it was terribly difficult to get out of the bunk. The wooden rim of the bunk makes it so hard to get up because my feet didn't touch the floor and pushing against a soft mattress with one hand doesn't work. Just removing a small section of the wooden rim would make it possible to get in and out of the bunks without so much effort and considerable pain.
"Disgrace"
Had I booked with Stena Line direct and not with Ferries Direct then I would have been informed that this ferry service had been cancelled and alternative travel arrangements would have been made. However I arrived at Cherbourg on schedule to find the Ferry had been out of service for 3 days and it would be another 2 days before repaired! We had to cancel our whole holiday to Eire at great expense. However I have nothing but admiration and at the same time the resilience of the Stena Line staff, they arranged a taxi to Caen where we crossed to Portsmouth and have promised to pay our out of pocket expenses. As for the middle men at Direct Ferries, I will not be using them in future.
"Next time we will fly"
My husband, 3 children and I travelled from Rosslare to Cherbourg and back in July 2017. The crossing takes 17 hours and includes an overnight stay on the ferry. To be fair the journey out was not so bad, we had booked a cabin and were reasonably happy with that. The main problem was the return journey. For some reason there were no cabins available for that leg so we were forced to book reclining seats in a large room shared with other people. An awful prospect with two 5 year olds and a 10 year old. The seats were awful, barely reclined at all, no way could we sleep on those. We ended up lying across seats and on the floor, as did almost every other passenger who was on the recliners. Clearly not just us who found the chairs unsuitable for purpose. To make matters worse both of my 5 year olds were sea sick and vomiting so we had to make frequent trips out to the toilets down the corridor. The men's toilets here were also out of order the whole trip so my husband was forced to use the ladies toilet with our daughters at times. Quite frankly that overnight trip was hellish. If we had been able to book a cabin things would have been much better with the toilet at hand. One of the other passengers who travelled four times a year on the ferry said he had never seen it so busy. It seems that Stena crammed us in without caring about having sufficient accommodation available. Very poor show. Never again.
"Rosslare-Cherbourg-Rosslare "
The smell of urine in the en suite shower room was dreadful! (Return crossing) An hour delay on the return crossing. Staff helpful and pleasant. Food good considering the amount that was cooked and served. Quick operation boarding the large numbers of various vehicles. Not my favourite way to travel but the only route when you need your car in France and Spain.
"Overnight ferry with stenaline "
Great staff very helpful and friendly. Our overnight cabin was very clean. A great experience overall. Yes it's different sleeping on a moving ferry but you could literally forget it due to the hospitality.
"You charge me twice"
I booked a ferry with you to travel from cherbourg to rosslare on the 9 of April. I ve been charged twice for the same trip. If this is not the customer service appropriate to solve this problem, please be kind to refer it to me
"Cabin next to kennels"
The crossing was OK, Stena not as good as Irish Ferries, ship a bit shabby and very small shop. We had to wait hours in Cherbourg to be processed, this could be done in half the time. By far the biggest issue was the fact that our cabin was next to the kennels and we had little sleep due to the howling and crying of the dogs. It was very upsetting, no one should be put in that room! My wife, Ruth, filled in a feedback form on the ship and gave it to the receptionist who said they would give it to the manager however to date we have had no response from Stena. would appreciate it if you followed this up with Stena.
"Light and shadow"
My husband and I enjoyed our trip from Normandy to Ireland in general, but we would have wished for a wider variety of food for dinner and breakfast, e.g. more healthy choices.
"I have been charged twice"
All have been well and straight forward. However it seems that I have been charged twice 137,5 euro for the same trip. Please forward me the number of the customer service
"Rosslare-Cherbourg."
Although the weather was bad (Gale Force Winds and very Cold) the ships crew did a wonderful job. Regarding the check in process, I recieved a text message stating that check- in opened at 1800 hrs, and would close promptly at 20000. In fact the check in did not open ubtil 1910. It was quite a long wait. Yes, the terminal building was available, however it was some distance away, with no information on when check- in would actually open. Notwithstanding all of that, a safe and pleasent experience. Thanks to all.
"Recent trip on Stenna Horizon"
Rough weather when we left but we didn't feel it so much with the stabilisers. Cabin clean but the addition of a television would have been good, due to the amount of time spent on the crossing. Dinner nothing to write home about, costly and lukewarm!
"Okay but could improve"
The ferry was late leaving as it was late in, the cabin smelled of smoke (despite no smoking allowed) so previous occupant must have smoked in the cabin before us. The cabin on the way out was close to the engines so exceptionally noisy and the food is just not healthy. On our return, we went straight to the cabin and didn't bother using any other facilities. Staff were lovely though and very helpful.
"Let downs"
Food - breakfast was tasty but barely warm. Requested hot food at later meal and it was heated up for us. On return journey I asked if chips were hot and was told that they were. They were almost cold. Staff - a member of staff came into our cabin, without knocking, 45 minutes before we were due to vacate and he came back again 5 minutes before we were due to leave and actually asked us to leave.

"Pleasant trip"
This was a very pleasant voyage. The boat left and arrived on time and getting off the boat was timely. A special word of thanks to Bernadette M who brightened up my day with her warm smile and her eagerness to help. She's a gem.
"Cheaper than booking direct with stenaline"
Was over a £100 cheaper to book through direct ferries had conformation straight away only thing I would say if would better to save confusion by saying you have to pick up tickets as I panicked all week it wouldn't be open at 6am on a Sunday (ticket office) but turned out we didn't need to pick up any tickets.
"Birkenhead to Belfast "
Overall great experience. Comfortable facilities. The only negative being the broken escalator for entering/exiting the ship. Will definitely use again.
"Long journey ... kids a bit bired"
It was a long journey and the children's lounge was tiny compared to the one we had on board between Holyhead and Dublin. There was no TV with kids movies playing either, although there was a cinema on board. However we only noticed this when exiting the ferry. Some announcements or obvious advertising would have been great. Cabins were very suitable for the journey and all was clean and staff was friendly.
"Great trip"
I had a great trip from Cherbourg to rosslare in December. The staff were always helpful and cheery. A very well run ship !
"Enjoyable Crossing "
It was a very pleasant and enjoyable crossing. Staff was efficient very friendly and helpful.
"Trip was good .... food was disgusting ...."
Great trip ... but the food is really bad .... why ??? There are posters up ... advertising the menu. After some contemplation, I decided that the 'chefs special' fish and chips was probably the safest option. Got to counter to order .... not available. Some other sad fish option was available .... but I declined ... looked horrible. Opted for chicken curry ... it was horrible... I couldn't eat it .... tasted like curry powder had been added at the end ... disgusting. Hungry ... so looked at desert option ..... sticky toffee pudding sounded good ... it wasn't .... stale, and the sauce drizzled over the top was chocolate. Revolting food ... wish I had either taken my own, or done as I have done previously, and ordered the children's portion of chicken and chips.
"Trip to Ireland"
Great deal.
"The perfect trip"
Friendly and helpful staff, cabin clean, food excellent. No complaints.
"Not so happy"
This ship is past its use by date. Old run down and broken. No soap in the shower the general state of it is not good. Shop is small no stock no booze no baccy and unfriendly staff. In general bar and restaurant staff were kind and friendly and helpful
"Relaxing start to a holiday "
Really enjoyed travelling to France this way. The only downside the shop was tiny and did not have a lot in it. Everything else was great . Will travel to France by ferry again.
"Stena Horizon"
Overal, the trip was good but the quality of the food has gone down compared with a few years ago. Also the PA speaker was not working in our cabin so we could'nt hear announcments. Apart from that it's a great setvice.
"Excellent family ship"
Excellent ship all round except for the cleanliness of the toilets. My 7 year old went to the toilet only to have walked all over human faeces. I went in to the toilets and it was everywhere and i mean everywhere. One hour later i went back to check and it had not been cleaned despite me telling someone unboard. My daughter was very distressed and her shoes and socks were distroyed. I was very annoyed at this. We had to bin her footwear and shower her. I was on a Stena ship last week and there was a cleaner in tge toilets every 15 minutes as my wife and i were sitting opposite the entrance. If the cleanilness improved unboard Irish ferries they would get 5 out of 5 but we had a traumatic ecperience and would question whether to travel again
"Efficient service"
The ferry journey from Rosslare to Cherbourg was great. It saved us driving through Scotland and England to get to the south of France. Well worth it. As a disabled passenger, I was disappointed to not have access outside. Also, I found it bothersome to have to ask for a key to the disabled toilet when I wanted to go. How about installing RADAR locks in order to make the toilets open to disabled customers only?
"Great start and end to our holiday !"
Great sailing, very helpful staff, Fernando went out of his way to help us and also a girl on the way home. My sons loved everything about the boat. 1st class service - thank-you stena line!
"N. Ireland to France, the easy way"
A very relaxing, stress free way of getting to France from N. Ireland, without the need to use the ridiculously priced ferries to Cairnryan and then drive 500 miles down through England. The timing of departure and arrival makes is compatible with onward journeys and makes the crossing seem to pass quickly. Cabin clean and reasonably comfortable. Would definitely travel this way again.
"Very straightforward journey!! "
This journey was pretty easy and enjoyable ! Would highly recommend
"Homeward bound."
Despite 5m swells and being tossed about all night everything was fine. We weren't even late on arrival. Staff efficient and friendly.
"Very pleasant"
Friendly staff well appointed HOT showers in the cabins and very easy to get on and of with a bicycle. The only downside was the lack of WiFi, but meet many friendly travellers so not a great issue.
"Return journey"
Good service on board, punctual.
"A really nice trip"
It was our first time in Irland. We often do long trip. The hospitality was really good: some guys were playing at the entrance and they gave a good start an unforgettable trip. All the services: from th office on board to the restaurant and duty free were di excellent quality. The only flaw was the price. For us it would be better to do the "camping on board" formula. In conclusion very good. Alessandro Ferrante
"efficiant crossing"
This is the best service on this route
"Direct Ferries experience"
With Direct Ferries I save a lot of money and I did not have any kind of problems.
"Ferry to France"
One of the most pleasant crossings I have made made in all my years travelling to the Continent. The service and food was excellent compared to all other crossings I have made from Ireland.
"Ireland"
Excellent for real!! Thanks
"The best so far"
My wife and I travelled on the Stena Horizon in mid May 2015, return - Cherbourg/Rosslare. We have used most of the cross channel carriers over the years so have a broad experience. We were absolutely delighted to discover that not only was the Stena Horizon spotlessly clean and the crew really helpful and friendly the food available was excellent. We could not praise Stena Lines more highly.
"Rosslare- Cherbourg "
In general I recommend the ferry. A bit swings but with some medicines you will be fine. If you want to save I recommend by the ticket as soon as possible and sleep on the sofa in the restaurant. They are very comfy :) A lot of people doig like this. The food in Buffet is expensive. Very clean place, safe and nice
"Its not that bad"
One minus, 18h trip without a free food.
"Stena"
I recommend
"I recommend"
We are very happy of Stena Line, I have good opinion about them, very clean and good staff :)
"Ireland"
Everything was perfect, a very enjoyable trip.
"JIST GOOD STUFF"
been on thi sboat loads of times when it saoled from belfast - so know the boat - great crew who work hard and are attentive - food is v good and not overpriced - cabins are adequate could have tea coffww in room tho'
"Well organised"
It was a nice experience, we want to do it again! Too bad that the wifi does not work inside the cabins.
"Trip Rosslare-Cherbourg Oct 28th 2014 Stena Horizon"
Good day, Have to praise the Stena Line efficiency and the punctuality ot the service, the in house services, bars, boutique etc, all properly managed. Like on my last review for the onward journey, the cabin toilet walls beside the WC bowl do not appear to be cleaned and sanitized properly so have a typical unpleasant smell, may be this is due by the short time between the trips but better housekeeping supervision should instruct the staff of how to do things properly.
"Ireland on the road"
Perfect solution to go to Ireland with a direct trip from France. Cheap, on time, ferry clean. We enjoyed the trip, highly recommended.
"2014 "
Cord.Saluti F.Cenerini
"Good, but not worth paying the additional charge for reclining seats."
The ship and the staff are very good. Everyone was very friendly. The only bad thing is that I paid an extra costs for a recliner seats and then they all were recliners.
"Travel without rest"
We expected rest bad, because of having failed to book a cabin option on time and be a crossing of 19 hours, but we didn't expect it was too bad. We accommodated on a sofa next to the bar, which is in principle the same point where information staff told us that we would be accommodated! BIG MISTAKE!. The bar remained open until about four in the morning, serving wine and pints of beer everywhere to the Irish people willing to not sleep all night, but they enjoyed and we suffered their enjoy. They drank wine, beer, without limit even falling over us because of how badly they were ... singing, one after another, typical and non typical Irish songs, with guitar and without guitar ... Finally, the party lasted until seven o'clock in the morning, and nobody could stop such party and alcohol (the staff tried it several times, but it was impossible, since the alcohol level of some of them). About 4 in the morning we were offered to sleep on the cinema room, but only until nine o'clock, but did not ,otherwise we will lost the precious sofa to have some rest while others sleeping off their drunkenness. In short,a travel to forget.
"a long crossing"
I have to say that 18 hours are a lot but if you travel during the night crossing, time flyes. If you don't book the cabin you can sleep on the carpet or at the bar. Nice staff. Good trip
"Great trip"
We have done a lot of chanal crossing and this is the best one so far. Lots of room Free internet.
"Good crossing!"
We have no criticism. Everything went well. Friendly staff, good service and good food.
"A PERFECT JOURNEY"
THERE WEREN'T ANY WAIT FOR BOARDING. I MANAGED TO GET A SHARED CABIN FOR AN EXTRA 25£, IT'S REASONABLE, I ARRIVED ON TIME I WAS WELL INFORMED BY THE STAFF
"A JOURNEY TO IRELAND"
a very good journey the reception was very good and the crew was great it was well organised overall thanks STENA LINE
"journey"
there is no wifi connection
"An average crossing"
I much prefer the other ships and ferry companies on this route -Brittany Ferries and Irish Ferries. Pat
"Travelling conditions for cars."
I didn't appreciated for my car to be on the deck exposed to the sea spray. When we arrived, it was covered in salt. I still had a long journey, but I had to find a garage to clean it.
"A great journey!"
An excellent journey, the 16 hours of the crossing are flying by quickly. The food at the restaurant is very good and affordable as well. I really recommend it!
"A TRIP TO IRELAND"
We were 4 people travelling from Cherbourg to Rosslare and back aboard the Stena Horizon. There is nothing to report, except 3 pillows instead of 4 in the cabin during the inbound journey. No toilet paper (thankfully we had some in our bags). No hangers. However, there were bed linen, towels and blankets. We didn't try the food except the bar and the breakfast which are decent. The schedule is respected. Another issue (that didn't concern us personnally): some passengers didn't seem able to get a cabin even though the ferry was far from being full.
"A good crossing"
The crew is pleasant, the ferry is well equiped, the journey goes smoothly and you don't see the 18 hours going by.
"Decent"
The crew is very nice. It's a shame that they don't speak any French aboard crossings between Ireland and France. We were also promised wifi, but it's not available on the boat. Because of this, I nearly missed my appointment. I had to use my phone (which is very expensive). I was also surprised with the water leak in the snack room.
"St.Patrick"
With less people on board for this return trip (outward on 16/03)more room generally, less queing and staff pleasant.Hope with the takeover by Stena the special offers for St.Patrick will continue.
"rosslare/cherbourg"
an excellent journey, a company to recommend
"Pleasant Crossing "
At Celtic Link Ferries, the crossing itself and the ferry there is nothing wrong. The crossing was calm and on the ferry everything is there what you need. The ship is very clean and the process very straightforward. I am very happy that I chose the Celtic Horizon ferry for my passage.
"Crossing Rosslare to Cherbourg on the Celtic Horizon "
I would take this company and the ship again. For me it was a great time on the ship.
"A very nice trip "
The trip was in spite of bad weather, very nice. The staff on board was very attentive and friendly. The food was very good and the cabin comfortable. I would want to go again definitely with Celtic Link.
"ferry "
The price for the crossing is too expensive
"A favorable opinion"
Good prestations from Celtic Link, despite the sea conditons, the timetable was respected.
"Holiday Ireland starts well with Celtic Link!"
Great facilities, friendly staff, nice breakfast, alright lunch/dinner. But a pity that the coffee bar was not always open (when the restaurant's closed you can't get coffee anywhere until the bar opens).
"Great crossing"
A fine passage on the Celtic Horizon, nice staff, friendly and helpful people, nice beds. And the fare was €25-30 cheaper than Irish Ferries. Yes, we enjoyed it!
"Crossing Cherbourg - Rosslare "
The ferry was ok, the staff friendly and helpful. The cabin is equipped appropriately for a night. Only the sea was extreme and made an almost a little scared, but no one can so what. Otherwise definitely come back, hopefully calmer lake :-)
"Cherbourg Rosslare and back……………. Perfect"
A feedback on this return crossing with my Honda toward Dublin. We departed on time aboard the Celtic Horizon. The atmosphere on board was peaceful, the staff was polite and attentive, the cabin were equiped withshower, toilets, bed linen and towels. It was ideal to spend the 18 hours of the crossing. Otherwise, it's possible to go to the bar, to the restaurant or in the TV lounge to watch the sea through the glass windows. I gave 4/5 for the facilities, because you can always do better. If the weather is good, I recommend to go on deck 6 where the heliport is located to enjoy the sea away from the wind.
"All the best "
We were very pleased.
"Great holiday beginning in 2013 "
A perfectly good holiday kick-off, as we had no cruise ship expected, we were happy with the service, the ship, the staff. Next year we will again go with Celtic Link Ferries.
"A crossing to Ireland"
a very good value for money. A very friendly staff.
"Rosslare-Cherbourg, Celtic Horizon "
With the exception of the cabin stank all over the ship after chemical toilet, the smell still clung hours afterwards in the clothes. The windows of the cabin were almost opaque, some were still splashes of color of the last exterior paint on the window. In the dining room, from where you had the best view, was allowed to stay only during meal time.
"Very nice"
A very nice crossing, a flawless staff, I recommend a cabin to sleep and shower if you travel at night.
"Crossing with motor and power failure "
During our crossing on 15.09.2013 from Cherbourg to Rosslare the ship had an engine failure. Associated with this was a power failure. The crew behaved professionally. Passengers were proven for completeness and therefore should all come to the restaurant. We were informed about the damage . Likewise we were informed about the state of repair. the crew members looked after very well by the passengers. were issued food and drinks free of charge. the Crew members also talked with the passengers, especially with families with small children to a calming effect on them influence. The food in the on-board restaurant is very good and surprisingly inexpensive.
"Very good"
We had a nice journey. The check-in staff is very friendly. One negative though (and an important one): to work in a travel agency between France and Ireland like that, the French staff needs to speak English, whereas the Irish staff only speaks English....
"Review our Travel Cherbourg - Rosslare and back "
With our trip, we were completely satisfied! The decor and service were very good! Conclusion So: recommended! :-)
"Catering"
Breakfast isn't amazing for that price.
"Direct with dog to Ireland "
With the dog kennel my dog was not happy, but I was able to walk with the dog in front of it, and so although it was a bit chilly but not a problem. On the return trip on the same ferry I left the dog in the car, but was allowed once with personnel on the car deck, and it was all ok The ferry staff is very friendly and helpful, the ferry not a cruise ship. You can sleep anywhere, if there is no bar service or buffet service takes place, and that is also made by the passengers busy. I would recommend this ferry to the low price to anyone, it's not cheaper to go to Ireland, if you want to take a car and a pet.
"Crossing from France to Ireland Celtic Link Ferries "
I can recommend this company.
"missed ferry "
Missed the ferry unfortunately. Had to go back home. With friendly greetings J.Grallmann
"Very happy with my ferry "
Ship and cabins were very clean Departure and arrival were on time The staff was friendly. My daughter found the onboard shop too small.
"travel "
It was O.K.
"Ferry Celtic Horizon - company Celtic Link Ferries - Cherbourg route-Rosslare "
We as a family (2 adults and three children) moved for the first time a long distance by ferry. The staff was very friendly. The two cabins were clean and adequate for 16 or 17 hours to spend on the size of the ship . My kids loved the breakfast good. On the return trip from Rosslare we were at the movies and had a good sleep after that. Something disturbing our sleep was on the way the music in a bar around midnight was finally conclusion. On the return trip, this was not so on, as the movie ended only against 23:30 clock and there was silence for a few minutes later. On the outward journey the times given were adhered to 100%. On the return voyage, the ship was a little late there, about 35 minutes Given a total travel time of about 17 hours is OK. Conclusion: We were very pleased with the ferry.
"Celtic Link Ferries"
The staff is very welcoming and helpful. The boat is clean and well laid out. The staff is polite. A very good overall impression. I would recommend it.
"Motorcycle vacation in Ireland "
The load and tie down our two motorcycles was very jagged and professionally. The rent is preparing lounge chair for 16 euros you can give because in these lounge chairs sit or sleep 18 hours can not. Otherwise, the crossing was fully in order, both in regard to cleanliness and service.
"Enjoyabel crossing to Ireland"
The cabin was great, clean, comfortable beds. Spacious open air deck, ample seating inside. Good coffee, but not at all cafés on board. Friendly staff. Interior looks old fashioned but is tidy. We enjoyed our crossing.
"A disappointing journey"
The seats in the lounge were not very confortable. The TV was on all night long. The staff is the lounge is not nice. You cannot choose your sea. There are people laying on the floor everywhere on the boat, which is not very pleasant..
"Ferry crossing"
A seat free crossing… it's not really confy! I recommend to book a seat as the corridors are quite cold.
"inexpensive, clean, top "
everything was great
"Prima crossing "
, Punctual wake-up, great crossing, good weather, slept quietly at 8:00
"Prima crossing "
, Punctual wake Prima crossing, good weather, slept quietly at 8:00
"A Cherbourg Rosslare crossing"
Very good. Bring an air mattress and a pillow. It's a lot more confortable than the pullman seats if you are tall like me. Or book a cabin :-)
"No complaints "
Everything ok. A car ferry, must contact the disembarkation on the vehicles is always a little more complicated. But everything was well organized and understandable.
"Celtic Horizon"
A peaceful crossing on a quiet sea with an attentive staff and a good level of service.
"Felt misled about accommodation "
Actually, I would have given a good to very good rating. The ferry has left on time, the training staff was very friendly (unlike the crew), and the ferry was very clean and had in public areas and clean toilets. Prices for beer and food were of course but exaggerated still in good frame. But, inspired by a rather upset (other passengers too): When you post, there are two accommodations, cabin or book seats automatically and including a photo of beautiful recliners. Well, so I thought we do not need a cab and take the seats. Well, on board was us and others then informed that they would have to reserve the seats or need to book. So we had a night on the floor in the cold and at night not darkened cafeteria. Along with determined 30 people, a family with small children. It did not work! Then already clear please specify when booking that you have to pre book and otherwise has to sleep on the floor!
"recommended crossing "
We were lucky, calm seas and therefore no unpleasant "surprises" ". Though the ship was filled to the last centimeter with vehicles was for the passengers no excessive crowding.
"A trip to Ireland with direct ferries"
Celtic link ferries is cheaper, but you have to sleep on the floor or (great luxury) on a chair. We were at least expecting reclining seats as in buses (especially that reservation was mandatory)
"ferry Ireland "
very good
"Cherbourg-Rosslare "
The ship was on time and clean, the food in the restaurant was good, the staff was friendly, the check-in was smooth and without long waits. I would do it again any time. This was annoying that my ticket was counted from the last year that I could not use that time this year in no way limited to the fare.
"ROSSLARE-CHERBOURG"
"bar area "
We had booked a suite for each round trip. After checking in and the respect of our cabin we went to the bar to have a drink. To our astonishment, the padded benches were completely covered with pillows, blankets and backpacks or pockets of people who had booked apparently no cabin. Were consumed largely to bring your own drinks. Many fellow travelers had to in the adjoining eating area with their purchased in the bar drinks withdraw itself as the Live Music begann. Although the safety signs, that this was forbidden also has the management do anything about it. This was actually our absolute negative experience in the otherwise well-organized and clean ship
"Satisfied "
Our crossing was easy and pleasant. The cabin is simple, but satisfying.
"Good crossing "
The crossing with Celtic Link Ferries is a good way from France to Ireland and back to go back.
"Cruise ship review "
Very basic, but clean ship., It all worked out to our satisfaction. Only on deck it is likely to have more seating. Otherwise, tip top.
"My opinion about the Cherbourg Rosslare crossing"
A clean boat. A cheerful staff. A very pleasant service. However, we had to wait for 1 hour before boarding for the inbound journey. The drunk passengers got into a fight. A security agent intervened efficiently. I don't have an opinion regarding catering as I didn't eat on the boat.
"and the vacation begins ... "
For avid fans of Ireland raises again the question ... how do you design the journey? Flight or ferry and if so, which. For us, the compound has been found to be the most beautiful, and every year we look forward to the crossing and enjoy your time on board. Here we can on the way our routes Preparing and on the way back watch photos and let the experience to reminisce. We are repeat offenders ... Thank you at this point for consistent friendly service. Greeting Gesine and Frank
"It's a hard life for dogs"
Dogs can stay in the vehicles, but only two visits are allowed escorted at 9pm and at 9am. A cabin is strongly recommended. You can stay on a bench, but during peak times, it can be difficult to find one. Plus, it's stinky.
"Trips between Cherbourg and Rosslare on 21/07 and 01/08/13"
When booking, there were no cabins left (Cherbourg-Rosslare, 21/7/2013). I barely slept. For the return journey, we asked if there was any cabin left and managed to get one. It was perfect.
"Some comments regarding crossing on July 2013"
First direct crossing between France and Ireland aboard this ferry: I regret not booking a cabin. Sleeping on benches is not really confortable. There is everything abord, except maybe a shop with Irish wine and liquors. Regarding the catering, there is only one restaurant, but it's enough. Breakfast was really decent. The loading and unloading of the vehicles were quick. I would recommend this ferry for its price and its quality.
"Good crossing "
I was the middle of July a good crossing. Everything has worked out perfectly. I originally had a reserved seat for the crossing. That was not for me. Since I did not have a wink of sleep (light, cold, not as convenient). A cabin is quiet simple and for me personally the better alternative. But there were many people who have slept well on the reserved seats. I was able to book fortunately on board for additional payment of the difference (between the seat and cabin) a cabin. The food was not cheap, but good.
"a ferry ride is not a cruise ... "
...thats why my expectations towards a fishing vessel that was converted to a ferry, were not outrages. the Outside and inside of th ship smelled halfway of urine, did not bother me, a country bumpkin like me , not at all. Not as long as I have to touch nothin.
"A crossing without a cabin"
We had booked seats. The room is noisy, because it's close to the ferry motor. Other passengers come and go constantly. There is no carpet, so it is impossible to lay down on the floor. In the end, it was a very incortable night.
"An holiday trip"
I was my first journey on this ferry and it went well: calm sea, good weather. The staff was friendly. However, as French speakers, it was difficult for us to understand the explanations given over the microphone. Recorded messages would have been better. We enjoyed our meals at the restaurant.
"Good crossings"
We were a bit nervous, but the journey went well. The sea was calm and the crossing seemed shorter, because we slept. The staff is very nice. The food is correct and affordable. The only problem is that we were waken up by the announcement of the restaurant opening through the speaker.
"Have a nice journey"
A pleasant crossing. An efficient staff. The motorbike were well strapped. The cabin was confortable.
"Quiet and good crossing"
Well cared for and fine facilities for an acceptable fare.
"Very Disappointing"
The entire aft end of the ship smelled like sewage. The Restaurant was very overpriced for the quality of food. The "reserved" seating section was over 26 degrees most of the trip, so most people resorted to sleeping on the linoleum. It would have been overcrowded if everyone who reserved a seat used it. The only positive to the entire trip was the time saved from taking a train around the channel.
"first experience "
"The food in the restaurant, especially the breakfast could be a little more varied. Exclusively offered The" "Irish" "Breakfast is not for everyone. The quality of food is good. Given the rather long passage (18 hrs), the Recreational could be a bit more extensive. Television and cinema is something little. The staff is very friendly and anytime, even at night, approachable. Very good! "
"My crossing experience"
We used this line between Cherbourg and Rosslare and back. Departure and arrival on time. No problems during boarding and disembarkment. Not many services during the crossing. Not a word in French from the staff during a France/Ireland crossing. We couldn't understand the information messages from the captain in French, even those regarding safety. It is shameful. Average overall.
"Cherbourg Rosslare"
Quick boarding. Ponctuality. Decent price for meals.
"Rosslare - Cherbourg 2013 "
see below
"Cheap and good"
My return 18-hour trip from Cherbough to Roselare cost only 300 euros for a van and two passengers - very reasonable. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Well done, Celtic Link.
"Short cruise"
Everything was perfect in this short cruise. The disembarkment was a bit slow though…….
"gibberish "
The loudspeaker announcements were almost incomprehensible - the technical equipment was poor standard announcements should be clear and understandable are given by band.
"crossing cherbourg to rosslare and back "
medium-sized ferry; very punctual in travel times, absolutely clean and cozy; cabins sufficient; check in and shipment without any problems, since competent team; again at any time; greeting
"No respect of the timetable"
The timetable are not respected. No explanations or excuses…. I'm going back to Irish
"had a bad experience "
I have been driving with more organized ferries in the past.
"Nice crossing"
Very good
"Ferry "
Fairly long crossing, but which flows fast in the end, as we spend the night. Nice crew, pleasant restaurant, clean cabin. Will do again!
"Fairly quiet on the way back"
The ferry trip went well, we travelled with animals. The only thing we regret is the lack of atmosphere. There are two bars that close at 22:00h and 12:00h. After a week of vacation we would have liked to finish with a last night especially on a boat!
"Excellent service"
Very satisfied with the crossing and the service received onboard and even though the boat left a bit late we caught up by the time we arrived.
"cabins"
It would be better if the cabin was included in the price even though the price would be higher. The cabins were great, but I had to rent it when I boarded and I thought it was included.
"Overall evaluation"
First experience on a ferry so I don't have anything to compare. I was pleasantly surprised. Clean and confortable external cabin, without any extras though. Decent and reasonably priced food. The crossing was on time and the staff is caring. A good value
"Rosslare Cherbourg crossing"
Great service
"Cherbourg - Rosslare"
I have travelled with Celtic link many times and have to say that the ship is always on time, they gave a good service, the rooms were good and clean for a ferry and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. We are booking our trips to Ireland again with this company.
"Perfect!"
First surprise was that the interior of the ship looked better than in the pictures. Staff were nice, cabin was clean and very comfortable. Meals were better than was expecting (not usually too good on this sort of ferry). Luckily the sea was calm too. Only issue was that the films weren't subtitled... No good if you are French! Thanks Eric
"Special offer"
Very special offer for St.Patrick resulting in outward journey packed to capacity.,evenso, conditions good with ease of contact between travellers and stewarts, shame no cabin or seating were available when I booked.Return crossing was much more comfortable.
"Holiday in Ireland"
Crossing pleasant, good team of people on the ship, good restaurant choice and clean cabin.
"Thanks for a good trip"
Nice and comfortable on board, staff pleasant and friendly overall a good service.
"Celticlink Ferry"
Pleasant trip on the ferry, but i found the chairs uncomfortable and the cabins too expensive.
"Satisfied with Celtic Horizon"
Very good ferry
"Mini cruise on the Celtic Horizon"
We embarked on the Celtic Horizon on Wednesday the 6th of June 2012. In the evening after dinner we were told that there was a problem with the engine, and that departure was therefore to be postponed to the next day. After breakfast on Thursday morning, we were informed that the engine part was not be delivered on time and that the we weren’t leaving until Friday. We were briefed on the situation by the captain and the purser who advised us to either stay on board or find an alternative. Because we chose to stay, we were offered free meals and accommodation. The whole crew organized a wonderful party that evening. It turned out to be a great evening. We even managed to visit Cherbourg on Friday. I can’t describe how great the accommodation on board was or how helpful and friendly the cabin crew and officers were. To sum it all up: Great experience, wouldn’t trade it for the world. Just goes to show that good endings can be achieved. On arrival in Ireland, we were waved off by captain. Many thanks to the crew and of course to Celtic Link Ferries.
