Bretagne has first-rate onboard facilities, including excellent dining, shopping and live entertainment, and can accommodate over 2000 passengers, almost half of them in cabin accommodation. It is named after the French region Brittany, and is decorated in traditional Breton style and colours.
There's a wide choice of 2, 3 and 4 berth cabins ranging from bunk style beds to commodore class luxury. All of the Bretagne cabins are ensuite, air conditioned and have fresh linen and towels. Soap and shower gel are also provided in case you want to freshen up and you'll also find at least 1 plug socket to use or to charge any electrical appliances that you may have. Reclining seats provide a great value option for overnight crossings and additional comfort to your day sailing. These lounges are ideal for groups or large parties as well as for individual customers wishing to stretch out and relax.
The Bretagne main a la carte restaurant ‘Les Abers’ offers seating for smaller and larger groups. You'll enjoy elegant surroundings and panoramic views - as well as an open kitchen where you can see first-class chefs in action. La Baule is the Bretagne's self-service restaurant. La Baule offers a fantastic choice of foods from around the world, as well as French favourites such as our minute steaks, a salad buffet, great choice of desserts, and drinks, including wines and beers to accompany your meal. Café - La Gerbe de Locronan serves sandwiches, cakes, pastries and hot and cold drinks. The children's soft play area is also situated within this area, so is a great place for families. The Bretagne's main lounge bar, Gwenn Ha Du serves everything from the finest French wines to cocktails. Also on the menu are hot and cold drinks and snacks. The bar also offers some tiered seating, ensuring a great view of the large stage area which regularly plays host to great cabaret acts, from singers to magicians! There are also a number of flat screen televisions showing big sports matches and news updates. Located at the entrance of the main restaurant, the Bretagne's piano bar, Yacht Club offers a superb setting for an aperitif - or a great atmosphere in which to simply relax as you sip cocktails and enjoy live music played on a grand piano.
Perfect for gifts, souvenirs, or just a treat for yourself, Bretagne boutiques offer a fine range of spirits, wine, tobacco, perfumes and cosmetics, leather goods, confectionery, toys, fashion, decoration, souvenirs, newspapers, games, cameras, sunglasses, jewellery and much more! Prices are shown in both currencies and you can combine different payment methods.
There are 2 cinemas onboard where you can catch some of the latest films. 'Wi-Fi time' can be purchased from the information desk. Bretagne features plenty of deck space so you can stretch your legs and and enjoy a calm spot to relax, while enjoying the sea air and incredible views, particularly when entering or leaving the port. Sun decks are on decks 7, 8, 9 and 10. There is also a baggage room, bureau de change and baby changing rooms. There are also a number of options to keep you and your family entertained while onboard including resident music duos and cabaret singers, close-up magic and headlining illusion sets, through to children's entertainers, cocktail pianists, tribute acts and DJ sets.
In addition to seasonal childrens entertainment there is also a playroom where young children can enjoy fun and games.
There are wheelchair accessible cabins, disabled toilets on decks 6, 7 and 8 and lifts are available with access to all decks.
Please Note: Whilst we have taken great care in making our Bretagne guide as accurate as possible, onboard facilities, services and entertainment may vary depending on the date and time of year that you travel, facilities mentioned may change without notification and ferry companies reserve the right to operate vessels other than those mentioned at time of booking without prior notification.

"Road trip 2023"
We allways enjoy this crossing .it sails at a nice time of day and arrives early in france so you have the whole day ahead of you .
"Ferry crossing"
Good crossing, comfortable and on time.staff very helpful
"Great ship"
Nice trip home!!
"Ferry crossing "
Fantastic service
"BF catering lets a good service down"
In almost all respects my recent journey , aboard Bretagne, was enjoyable and the vessel met high standards.....but. On an 8.5 hour crossing was the restaurant only open for 1 hour 15 minutes? And at almost €30 for the privilege. The self-service cafeteria meal was pre-cooked, tired and dull. At least the fish tasted quite good, though luke warm. Very clean ship. Staff very pleasant. Drinks at very good prices. Disembarkement fairly quick. Arrival bang on time.
"Great trip"
All very efficient
"Gentle sailing back to Portsmouth"
Our first experience of the St Malo Portsmouth sailing and would not hesitate to do it again. One of the larger ships in the Brittany Ferries fleet and plenty of room everywhere. As we were out of season there was little or no waiting for any of the facilities on board and lots of places, inside and out, to rest up. Checking in was quick and a relatively short wait to go through the french border checks. Similar experience in Portsmouth. Perhaps not the case when travelling in peak season?
"Ferry crossing Portsmouth to St. Malo & return"
The cabin facilities were basic but comfortable enough, the food was average, staff friendly. Much cheaper and easier than flying and probably not much time difference either. Plus you can take as much with you as you can get in the car!
"So comfortable "
We enjoyed our voyage to portsmouth so much! Thank you.
"Portsmouth St Malo"
I had a pleasant trip, taking my motorcycle across to France. A bit of wait to board, never good for a biker. Cars are more comfortable. Quick disembark though. Nice buffet facility, friendly staff, clean dining area. Cabin clean and comfortable. Thank you.
"St malo to Portsmouth crossing"
Fantastic service , our ferry trip was made so easy and stress free , from moment we boarded our motorhome , booking in was simple , staff were always easant and accommodating, food on board was 5 star and entertainment felt like we were on a mini cruise .would recommend this trip for sure
"Friendly"
Friendly staff. Efficient. Nothing to complain about. Thank you
"1st time ferry crossing "
Would not recommend a day crossing, cabin nice, but silly things (embarking, wifi, shops closing) made it a painful experience
"Trip on foot to Brittany in September"
The experience of the ferry (the first time I have been on a cross channel ferry for more than 25 years) was very positive. The ferry was comfortable and the staff helpful and pleasant. The night crossing with a cabin was a good experience. The only thing that I would suggest could be improved was for foot passengers emerging and walking to the railway station. There was no dedicated footpath and we had to navigate through the car park. Also some signs for the sation and the quickest way would have been warmly welcomes
"Bretagne Fantastic"
We have not travelled on a Ferry for over 20 years, always flying! However, we were more than pleasantly surprised at the facilities on board, with plenty of choice for eating, drinking and even a cinema! The 2 berth accommodation was functional with little noise and decent facilities! The only downside was the music through the cabin intercom to alert you that the ship was close to docking, The overall experience booking in at portsmouth and the loading procedure (although you always feel you've chosen the wrong lane) was a pleasant one, no problem at all.
"France and back"
Everything went well. We would like to have been off first as we had a long trip from Portsmouth to Edinburgh . Is there a way of organising that in advance?
"Ferry crossing"
Every thing was perfect, the staff were very efficient
"A pleasant way of crossing the zChannel"
The outbound journey (Portsmouth/St Malo ms Bretagne) was quite rough and the inbound journey (Caen/ Portsmouth, ms Mont St Michel) was very smooth. Both ships were comfortable, and despite being end of season most facilities were open, the main restaurant outbound served only cold food, and was closed completely inbound. The cabins on both were comfortable. My only criticism was the time taken to unload, at both arrival ports, for example it took about an hour between arriving at Portsmouth and clearing the port. However all in all a reasonable experience and I would use these routes if visiting Brittany in the future.
"Great way to cross the channel"
Easy to book via Direct Ferries. The embarkation and disembarkation were straightforward. The food in the self service restaurant was reasonable value for money. Disappointing that thge free wifi did not work in the self service restuarant
"No Wifi"
Wifi does not work at all even in public areas, reclined seats area
"Great experience all around, no problems with anything. "
Direct Ferries have some very unfavourable reviews online, which, in my experience is totally unjustified. Our family experience with DF was absolutely great, we had no problems with anything, their price was cheaper than booking direct with Brittany Ferries. We did the Portsmouth - St. Malo crossing in peak holiday season. The booking experience was easy and straightforward, the confirmation emails explained everything, how to to get to the ports, and all the information I needed to make sure we have a great start to the holiday.
"3 negative issues"
The crossing was good on the whole but there were 3 issues that people may need to be aware of: 1.The cabins were still being cleaned when we boarded at Portsmouth so there were queues of people hanging around with their belongings 2. The menu in the buffet was very confusing as none of the options advertised were on offer which led to more queues as people had to make different choices when they got to the service area and 3. Worst of all was the constant barking by one of the dogs in the deck below us. It went on ALL night so we didn’t get any sleep. It would be worth checking where you cabin was in relation to the kennels!!
"Brittany Ferries superb, Direct Ferries not"
Having booked with Direct Ferries, I had an issue with my booking. It was effectively impossible to contact Direct Ferries remotely quickly. I had to contact Brittany Ferries, who were very helpful. The reviews below are ONLY for Brittany Ferries..
"Very Contrasting Experiences"
The Portsmouth/St Malo overnight leg was excellent. Had a great meal at the a la carte restaurant immediately after boarding. The catering on the St Malo/Portsmouth daytime leg was rubbish. The self-service restaurant had queues lasting forever, with only average food. The a la carte restaurant closed to serving breakfast at 11.30 am. We eventually used the self service restaurant at 3pm, after the queue had reduced.
"We paid to change our crossings by a day . The next day we arrived at the terminal in saint Marlo an"
Very very poor practice
"No issue"
All good beats Dover / Calais route if driving from the south. Nice relaxing sailing and efficient unloading
"Great crossing both ways "
We did a night crossing on route to Saint Malo and a day crossing on route back. Catering was great, but the ferry did need a bit more of a clean.
"Portsmouth to St Malo"
Ship was nice, facilities good, and sailed on-time. Spoiled by the haphazard approach to boarding. On the return trip, we were the 2nd car to arrive at the port, but for some reason we ended up being one of the last to board the ship, which meant we lost about 90 minutes of time actually leaving the port. For this reason, we won't be travelling with Brittany Ferries again.
"Absolute Rubbish"
Brittany Ferries are great. Direct Ferries are awful. Dont book with them. Impossible to get in touch.
"Short staffing is evident! "
The ferry was covered in litter. The toilets were appalling- goodness knows the last time they were cleaned. The only positive part was the staff coordinating vehicles whilst embarking and disembarking the ferry. They were very efficient. Such a shame the quality of cleanliness was so poor.
"Cross Chanel to St Malo "
I really enjoyed to sail to St Malo in Britain Ferries. The staff was very professional as well all the facilities in the Ferry.
"Disappointed "
The staff were very helpful. But the organisation for disembarking was confusing. Myself & another passenger had to ask several times what was happening. The prices of food & drinks was very expensive. Lack of choice of food & poor quality.
"Pleasant trip"
Everything went smoothly restaurant food very good
"Fwrry review"
The one comment we have is the breakfast. Very expensive for such a small portion!
"Inability to speak to anyone"
I’ve used Direct Ferries several times in the last 2 months and despair at not being able to message or talk to anyone. Please contact me asap either on 07768236930 or at Robert.beebee@ipu.co.uk Thanks
"Good booking experience then confusion "
We used Direct Ferries to book our Portsmouth to St Malo trip as their site was a lot easier to use than Brittany Ferries. However changes to the booking proved to be very expensive - I added a person to make us a group of 3 in our 4 berth cabin. In the process I was told that it would cost £40 with £10 charge for a change but was actually charged £72. When we got on the ferry our external cabin had turned into a deck 2 internal cabin so I had to make a fuss. Brittany Ferries moved us to the right cabin but by that time I had spent more than £500 on a single crossing so was very disappointed. Next time I will try to remember to book direct with Brittany ferries.
"Great to travel "
Easy checking in, comfortable journey. Only comment for improvement or to warm future guests is that the restaurant closes early due to shortage of staff. Limited seats available, so book early. Easy disembarked. Information on the sail was frequent and informative.
"failed trip"
Booked with Direct ferries any number of times before and providing nothing goes wrong - like a medical emergency - I'm sure they are still OK . Just don't get ill, run late or doing anything they haven't considered in their own planning because what happens to you, their customer, they don't really want to bother about
"Would definitely recommend this way to get to France - beats flying these days - far more comfortabl"
We decided to use the Portsmouth St Malo Ferry to get us to the mainland and were so glad we did. It was very comfortable, punctual, the food was great, it was lovely having the on board cinema - in short - we will do this again!
"Portsmouth to St Malo and Return. Smooth sailing!"
We booked both ways for a trip to France and the ship was clean and with helpful friendly staff on both journeys. The cabins were what we needed and also very clean.
"Fantastic return "
Staff and ferry amazing
"Trip to st malo"
Loading seemed to be a little haphazard but on the ship was fine with nothing to complain about. Saying that the cabin was like sleeping in a cupboard.
"Satisfaction"
Excellent voyage sur un navire et avec un équipage au top entre portsmouth et saint malo de nuit
"My recent voyage from St. Malo - Portsmouth"
I travelled as a foot passenger for the first as an adult and for the first time on my own last week, and I was really impressed with how easy and pleasant it was. Thank you. The sailing could not have been more relaxing and more enjoyable for me. I appreciated being welcomed on board - the staff were very helpful. I found a table just alongside the cafe and spent the entire journey writing poetry, eating meals from the cafe and enjoying a glass of wine or two. Occasionally, I heard announcements for events that were taking place and it is very clear that the company makes a great effort to engage with passengers and enhance their experience of being on board. I did not feel the need to take part in any of the activities, but I might do on future journeys. The only thing that I feel needs to be addressed, and it might seem a very small thing, is about the bus that transferred the foot passengers to the terminal building in Portsmouth. The engine of the bus was running while passengers were getting on, so I had quite a lung full of exhaust fumes as I walked alongside the bus and got on. It took several minutes for everyone to get on and the bus was idling the whole time. I would like to suggest that the buses are turned off while they are standing like that - it will help reduce the carbon footprint, whilst also being better for the health of the passengers. As to the journey on the ferry, I was very impressed by the helpfulness of the staff and the standard of services - thank you.
"Ferry Bretagne to Portsmouth from St-Malo on Tuesday 13 August"
The trip was long but comfortable, the ferry provides as much entertainment as possible (more than I expected), the lunch was pretty good and it was easy to buy snacks and drinks as the ship wasn't very full. The only thing I noticed was that the women's toilets smelled of stale urine even though they looked clean.
"Very good trip"
We were very pleased to find that the food was excellent and not expensive. Staff were helpful. Loading and unloading was efficient and quick. Very good experience.
"Relaxing time"
When you see it takes eight hours you may be put off but it is a great journey to relax and enjoy the ships facilities. Impressed by cleanliness, shops , food options and a great film too.
"Ferry from St Malo to Portsmouth on 14/07/19"
The air conditioning was too cold. I was wearing summer clothes like most of the other passengers. I complained about being too cold. I was not aware of any change in the temperature of the air being forced into the passenger accommodation. Why didn't the engineering staff rectify this discomfort?
"sandwiches"
The food was always attractively presented and the Crème caramel was delicious. This was in the self service restaurant. My only complaint was a salmon/cheese sandwich in a carton (with dark blue edging all round) which had brown bread which was wet and soggy. I was only able to eat part of one of the two sandwiches. This was on the St Malo - Portsmouth trip yesterday. Only a minor frustration on otherwise excellent teips.
"Ideal way to cross channel"
Perfect way to cross the channel. Lovely meal in restaurant, cabin comfortable and overnigt crossing is the best way to go (why is there no overnight return ferry this would make it 5 star all the way). Return trip pleasant and comfortable but long. That said plenty of space and good variety of things to do.
"portsmouth to st malo crossing"
great ship - lovely, friendly staff, clean facilities and excellent food.
"Honest review"
The ferry crossing was on time, check in etc went smoothly etc. The food in the canteen is exactly that - canteen food. On the return journey we ate in the “buffet” sit down restaurant and the food was very good, although we did find the menu confusing as they charge you for different things off the buffet.... As for our cabin - well that was revolting. It smelt of wee, it was dirty and left a lot to be desired! So for that reason I won’t recommend
"Great service by Brittany Ferries but book direct with them, it's no cheaper and you have more choic"
The whole process of booking the cruise through to the end was seamless. The ship was clean, a great cabin and the staff very courteous. The only drawback was a flat tyre when we returned to our car and this was down to a screw in the tyre - beware of the surroundings (we had only driven 800 yards from our hotel), but had an electric pump which allowed us to limp home.
"A good first experience, on the whole"
Efficient boarding. Good (but pricey) food at the restaurant. The live piano music at the bar was rather sad. Still the ship looked tired and could do with some proper modernization but the cabin we had was clean and tidy. Pls seriously update the retail side - the gift shop in particular looks like the sad duty free in the 80s and the prices are non competitive. Finally WiFi is poor
"Portsmouth to Santander"
Ran 3 hours and a half late!!! Only informed 5 hrs before and already travelling. This ferry had run late for two crossings before so why not tell people earlier a huge wait and slow boarding......
"Excellent journey"
First time in this journey, very efficient and relaxing journey both ways, plenty variety of activities/restaurants/rest areas and outdoor space to pass the time and enjoy the sail. Great entertainment as well in bar area, enjoyed the quiz. All staff very welcoming and friendly, they work hard& long hours and help everyone to enjoy our trip on the ferry- definitely recommend this trip if staying near Brittany.
"Angouleme 2018"
Had a fantastic night crossing on our way to watch the Circuit des Remparts, great staff, lovely food and an excellent experience overall, it’s a shame the other ferry companies can’t offer the same, would recommend to anyone thank you 😊
"Very good experience"
Was a very smooth process and transport across. The only issue was that the restaurant was very late to open which meant there was a mad rush the minute the doors opened and staff struggling to get to everyone without too long a wait. There was also no tea or coffee provided in the cabin despite having paper cups available. The family entertainer proved a total hit with my two kids and he managed to attract a very large crowd of kids and parents who stayed fixed until the end.
"NOT HAPPY WITH CABIN"
In January 2018 I booked an external cabin for late August expecting at least a porthole with a sea view (the trip being daytime). I was therefore extremely disappointed when my wife and I entered our cabin to see people walking right past our porthole together with 2 enormous vent covers and the inside bows of the ferry. I obviously paid extra for an external cabin and booked early to ensure availability. The cabin itself was very good but had I known what the view out of the porthole was going to be, I wouldn't have bothered paying extra for a 'sea view'. As it was, the weather was OK and we spent most of the trip on deck. We felt rather cheated.
"Overnight ferry to St Malo"
Easy , quick access to the cabin which was clean and comfortable. Prompt disinformation on time .
"Dirty cabin"
Our cabin for four had not been cleaned sufficiently with rubbish left in bins in bathroom and main room . No soap in bathroom and one of the towels had been used. Bins Full of disgusting previous guests food etc. Otherwise trip good with food choices and entertainment. Getting on and off was very well organised. Would not book s cabin in future
"Portsmouth - St Malo "
This is the 3rd year we have travelled to France with Brittany Ferries, as part of our family camping holiday. Previously we have been very happy with the service, but unfortunately this year was a different case. We travelled on the evening of Friday 3rd August 2018 and boarded the ferry to be crammed in with our vehicle and caravan. Having paid £912 for the priviledge, my husband was unable to get out of the vehicle and was expected to climb over the centre console and exit via the passengers door, which also could not be opened fully. When we highlighted this to the staff loading the vehicles, there was a huff and the male simply walked off. On reporting this to the reception, we were informed this was an old ferry and that it was very busy. I appreciate it was in the height of the holiday season, but we had still paid full price and therefore expected to be able to enter and exit our vehicle from the standard doors. On raising this issue with the reception, I was informed if my husband was disabled this should of been highlighted at the time of booking and they would make special arrangements. My husband is far from disabled, having completed an ironman the previous week, however at 15 stone has not climbed over the centre console of our vehicle since he was a child! This is not normal practise and should not be expected from full paying customers. Unfortunately there were no suitable explanations given and we were just left feeling that the vehicles had been crammed, potentially causing safety issues. Our concerns were concreted when we returned to our vehicles to depart. A caravan in front was being directed out of the ferry by staff, which resulted in hitting another parked vehicle. This was not due to the driving of the vehicle, but the ridiculous parking which allowed no movement of passengers or vehicles to depart. I have pictures of our vehicle parking (which show our wing mirror was nearly touching the next vehicle) and also of the vehicle which struck the other vehicle on departure) if required. I would appreciate a response and explanation as this has significantly impacted on consideration whether to use this mode of transport next year. As we travel with other families this would also impact on their decision whether to utilise your service.
"Ferry from st Malo to portsmouth"
A fantastic end to our holiday. Amazing entertainment including a pantomime for the kids and we arrive an hour early! Can’t fault it.
"Cheap but not always cheerful"
We booked the Bretagne because the Pont Aven was fully booked, the main differences are obvious - smaller self-service restaurant and limited menu, but the food was much better than expected, apart from a very surly server/chef who literally threw the food onto the plate and when I mentioned that he'd broken the eggs his reply was 'well, you are going to break them when you eat them so it doesn't matter!' Other than that all was basic but OK.
"Superb Service"
Everything about both journeys was very good. In particular the food in the restuarant was superb as was the service.
"Stress with dog"
Our journey started stressfully when we were told that our dog could not go to the kennel because we did not have a muzzle. I didn’t know that we needed one and was told that I could not buy one on the ship which wasn’t true. We really worried about leaving our dog in the car as she likes to chew and dig, she would have destroyed the back seat. We were told later on the boat that it was not a problem, we could take the dog to the kennel...! I wished that the first person who checked our booking knew a little more about what is really happening in the boat. Also, the wait to get on the boat was quite long. The cabin we booked was clean but it smelled of old tobacco and this was very unpleasant. At the end of our journey, there was no announcement about how closed to the arrival we were. I decided to order food thinking that I had another hour but I had to hurry up eating it because we were there...! Other than that, it was a very pleasant journey, the facilities, food and animations are great.
"A truly bad night on a reclining seat"
We went on an expensive ferry from P to St M (nearly 400€ - as it was the busiest weekend of the year, which we hadn't considered) and only got a reclining seat for this rather extortionate amount (single fare!). I understand that no cabins were available anymore, but charging this much for the pleasure of trying to sleep on a seat is really not on. Looking at people crawling out of the room in the morning looked like an episode of Night Of The Living Dead. I suggest BF give these seats at a much lower rate, and warn people of the extreme discomfort or simple not sell them at all. Never again.
"In safe hands"
Cant fault this company... did everyhting they could to make for 2 perfect crossings at the peak time. Boat was immaculate (well... apart from the unclean windows...but minor niggle)... Food fair priced.. as was the coffee...bar and all others. Staff exemplary! We felt we were on a cruise not a ferry... so WELL done the staff ... merci boucoup!
"Calm! Panic and more panic! Calm and relaxed"
Lovely crossing, meal in the a la carte restaurant was fantastic (fillet of beef was wonderful). The meal was also extremely good value - kids meals were £8 or so for 3 courses.
"Very pleasant all round."
Staff seemed genuinely happy, must have something to do with winning the World Cup whilst I was on board .
"thank you to you great staff"
I needed assistance as I don't walk very well and am asthmatic. I am very grateful for the kindness of your staff - the people who accompanied us at every stage were unfailingly helpful. i couldn't hope to travel again without assistance but I would happily come again. Thank you.
"Good sevice"
An enjoyable crossing, both outbound and return. Found faculties, staff and cleanliness all excellent The Boule restaurant was more rhan satisfactory, excellent quality, range, presentation and reasonably priced. Cannot find any fault in the service offered.
"Very disappointed "
We arrived at St Malo ferry terminal 12 hours before our ship was due to depart. We found that the cafeteria was closed, so we used the coffee machine (the worst coffee we had ever tasted), avoid at all costs. We settled down in the most uncomfortable seats on the planet to await our ship. We were kicked out of the waiting area by security, as it was closing. We, and 2 other foot passengers had to settle down on the benches outside all night. Why are there no indoor waiting areas? On the ship we were served a cold breakfast, which was scrambled egg on toast. Not a good start for 2 tired motorcyclists. When we we’re disembarking, the bikes had to SQUEEZE between a barrier, cars and avoid the various floor fixings. I had to turn my mirrors in, as did all the car owners that I had to squeeze past. An absolute disaster from start to finish.
"Seat booking a waste of money "
We paid extra money for seats. Even though the seat numbers were consecutive, the actual seats were in difffernt rows and against a wall. Seat allocation would be far better if it were shown on a map like cinema or airplane bookings where you’re able to choose your own seating.
"Last night’s crossing. "
Very pleasant trip. Excellent meal in the restaurant. Compliments to the chef. Food and presentation was amazing. Cabin was very adequate.
"Relaxing ferry journies"
Thoroughly enjoyed our return trips from Portsmouth to San Malo, especially the return on a very calm and sunny day. We were able to relax in comfortable surroundings and all the facilities were excellent.
"Fantastic "
My brother and I were completely impressed with Brittany ferry! From the minute we loaded our car on the boat, we were given a card with the deck number on it so we didn’t forget. The boat is clean, the staff are friendly and welcoming, the shops are good and the seats are comfortable. The food was nice and not over priced. There is enough seating outside for the smokers. Over all great experience. The only thing that I was surprised about was how much the cabin were. The price for a cabin when up another £300! Which I think is too much.
"Visiting the grandchildren in france"
Overnight ferry, on time even though I had a text saying delayed. Cabin facilities clean with towels, toiletries supplied and plenty of room. Shower excellent.. food in the self catering restaurant was ok if a little cold. Breakfast was better. On and off the ferry was well organised. Reclining seats on the return journey on a day crossing, were very comfy. Plenty to do on both crossings. Children’s entertainer (although we had no children with us ) was very good, as was the bingo caller with his jokes. Very funny .
"Great time "
We enjoyed sleep on overnight crossing and day on board on the way back
"Cruies Across"
We've always been "rush rush rush" le shuttle or shortest crossing. This was a wonderful way to start our holiday with a relaxing cruise, sleeping whilst Brittany Ferries did the miles for us. Knowing what we know now, we'll use more of the on board facilities next time.
"Excellent"
Experienced a really enjoyable trip in both directions. Great ship, very helpful staff. Dining was a highlight. Cabin was clean & comfortable. A great deal obtained through Direct Ferries.
"Dog facilities"
Disasterous. It was the first trip to take my dog. The visiting times were 12and 03pm. The first visit was fine ,although there was trouble opening the door to the deck which gave less time for the visit. The second visit was with a nice young man who couldn't open the door at all, so he called his superior who shouted and ridiculed him and then dismissed him and eventually got me in through another door.My poor little dog had been sick in the car and when I got her out she had daireah .The Hotel manager shouted at me to clean it up before I had a chance to do so.I had no time to comfort her at all. He was a very nasty , rude man. A terrible example for your company , which I've always enjoyed using. As I was complaining at your reception desk he came along and realised what he had done and I told him what a rude man he was, to which the receptionist said he was a nice man but as I pointed out to her , she was not witness to his behaviour.Another dog owner saw the way he treated the young man and was disgusted as was I.If your company offer this service they should be more understanding.
"PORTSMOUTH TO ST MALO.. 08.04.18"
While the ship in general was remarkably good with staff courtious and rooms clean, the outside cabin asked for ended up looking onlr at the equipment on the front of the ship.. a rip off realy as we couldn't see anything. The food we had was absolutely abysmal. Everything was only half warn and the chips were soggy and uneatable.. with this our first time sailing for a long time we presumed this to be the norm, untill we returned on North Sea ferries and saw how it should be...
"30th wedding anniversary. "
Thanks for another enjoyable crossing to St. Malo to celebrate our 30th anniversary. Meal in restaurant was fab as usual.
"Brittany Ferries"
The whole experience of booking, travelling and crossing from France to the U.K. with Brittany Ferries is good. My only complaint is that if one lives in the Southwest of France the 7 hour driving to Roscoff is very long and tiring. The crossing from France to the U.K. is limited to just one choice -22:00 arriving in the U.K. after an 8 hour ferry trip at 8:00am the following morning. I feel that Brittany Ferries should look at 1) more sociable hours 2) adding a service from Bordeaux to Plymouth especially since there are some 800 thousand British citizens living in this area. I am sure there would be lots of interest in this route both for private and business use.
"One day in St Malo"
I needed to pick something up from st Malo and this was without doubt the best way to get there. Good value. Excellent food and comfortable cabin.
"Great experience, food good but a bit expensive"
Great experience, easy check in both sides, quick loading. Great cabins and good shower, good night's sleep. I'll definitely use this route in the future rather than the shorter ones. Only downside is the price of the food, though I guess it's to be expected. That said the food was good, just a bit pricey.
"Le bateau est fantastic "
Breakfast is expensive than other ferry. Staff are nice and cool. Bateau est jolie but ticket are a bit high. Kind regards
"Great customer service"
We had to delay our crossing by 24 hours. The counter person at the San Malo direct Ferries Office rebooked us with a smile. Whew!!! We use direct Ferries for all ferrying. France - england. Italy - croatia. England - copenhagen. We have been in Europe for the first two years of retirement and direct Ferries has all the information we need. Their staff is always helpful. That means a lot when traveling.
"Excellent service "
Excellent service and will use again
"st malo"
Very good experience.
"Bretagne"
Very good service both ways
"St Malo to Portsmouth"
Pleasantly surprised with the experience. Compared to the last time I made this crossing some 20 years ago the service and facilities have vastly improved. Just one niggle with the overall Brittanny Ferries service is that the facilities for dogs is inconsistent ferry to ferry with only (I understand) one vessel providing kennel facilities. Otherwise, highly recommended.
"Honeymoon"
Great crossing food brilliant staff great all in all a great ferry crossing and return thank you
"First ever ferry trip"
lovely spacious decks with entertainment in the evening which passed the time away till 11pm. Had a bunk cabin which was adequate but claustrophobic. Being 6 foot 1 inch tall found bed very cramped. Return journey during day using recliner chairs was comfy and will be my preference for evening crossing next time..(and cheaper). Took pet dog which stayed in motor home rather than kennels. Able to visit dog twice on each journey to quickly walk dog for relief. Kennels looked a bit cramped and dark, so would not use them for my dog.
"Excellent "
Very friendly and helpful staff, the cabine was as expected and we've been offered a cot bed for the baby which was really appreciated. We enjoyed our journey both ways.
"FANTASTIC"
I would like to congratulate you all on the FANTASTIC service we have received from the booking team, every time I phoned with a query they were very professional. I came away from the phone feeling very uplifted at the service I was given. These days we all moan about when we receive a bad service and all to often forget about the good, SO WELL DONE. We had a great time on the ferry the facilities were brilliant and the staff equally as good. We will highly recommend the company and service you provide. Our future plans will mean we will need to travel with your company on a regular basis Keep up the good work.
"Excellent service. "
I found the staff throughout both my journeys helpful, informative and polite. On foolishly leaving my coat in my cabin on my outward trip they kindly arranged to have it left for me at the information desk on my return trip. Saving me any inconvenience or additional expense. I would be happy to recommend to anyone.
"Gets you where you want to go"
Fir R o R o service it does its job ok. Expensive for what you get. The exchange rate is terrible so use sterling.
"We are sailing"
The biggest ferry we have ever been on and found it a very pleasant experience , we were not looking forward really to the eight hour trip but there was so much to do and beautiful food to eat also good weather so we sat on deck most of the way that the time just flew by. Staff very helpful and friendly look forward to our next trip .
"Enjoyed trip"
Our first time sailing with you and we enjoyed the trip. Only criticism is that there was a used breakfast tray and bottle still in our cabin
"Ferry Crossing"
I was very impressed with the efficiency of the staff, i was very pleased the food was very fresh and reasonably priced - they had a good entertainment programme- the cabin bunks were surprisingly comfortable and we managed to have a very good sleep - we even docked early !
" Very good"
Very comfortable journey. Air con in one of bedrooms not working but staff found a new room straight away. Lovely music to wake us in the morning. Prices for food much higher in Euros so best to buy in £s. Long wait for passport control when we arrived.
"Direct Ferries Review "
This was the first time my family and I had used a ferry to travel abroad. I didn't know what to expect whilst driving on board the ferry with my two children. We parked on board Portsmouth ferry terminal and was greeted by lady handing out cards telling us where we were parked. The help stopped there.... We found all the faculties ourselves, no one pointed us in the direction of our cabins so that took a while to locate- this was quite an adventure for my two children. It was the same issue on trying to locate where the car was parked once docked at St Malo. No help what so ever- but we got there in the end. On our return trip we wer a little more customed as to what to do on board and had reasonable knowledge of the ships layout. Therefore the return trip was much easier. I found that there wasn't much staff assisting travellers like myself and it was a case of figure it out yourselves. On the way out the wifi wasn't an issue as we were in a cabin. On the return trip we were in seats on the 9th deck. We had absolutely no wifi signal up there in the seating area. This was a bit annoying as the television was not working and one was missing. Overall, it wasn't a bad trip- the entertainment was better on the night than the day. The kids had fun Which was what it was all about
"we'll do it again!"
Travelled from Portsmouth to St Malo overnight on Bretagne. Wonderful experience. Food and service in restaurant excellent, crossing very easy and smooth. However, we would definitely recommend the booking of a cabin. We didnt and the reclining chairs dont recline very far and so I ended up sleeping on the floor, as it was more comfortable! travelling back came cherbourg portsmouth on Normandie express, again very good service, very easy at both ends, food not so good as on Bretagne and more limited in choice .. much noisier as not such a big boat so less places to go so children more restless. However, for a quick and shorter crossing would certainly recommend.
"Returning home"
Only negative point is lack of internet. When booking you are told free internet available. Well that's not quite true. If you want wifi you have to position yourself in certain areas of the ship. NOT where we had our booked seats. So all in all a total waste of time. Even standing in the specific areas it was a weak connection. Oops one more complaint. What exact is your policy on dogs? Before boarding we are told only allowed in kennels if muzzled!! Told it says it on the information on web, NO it doesn't. Once on board we are told muzzles only for dangerous dogs! 9 hours and your dogs stay in the car or kennels which are incredibly noisy. Nowhere to walk your dog at halfway point. Poor animals, I will now always opt for shorter crossing.
"Excellent Service"
I did not know when I was returning from France but it was easy to get onto the Direct Ferries site and book a place within 48 hrs of the sailing. I admit that I only have a motorbike so it may have been more difficult with a car. The ship and the crossing were fine and I was well looked after. The operatives were very good with tying down the bike.
"Smooth Sailings"
Our ferry ride was superb. The spaciousness of the vessel meant that we were able to unwind and enjoy the sights very comfortably.
"Good crossing"
Everything was as good as expected. Staff in self service restaurant very friendly. Toilets could have been cleaner seeing it was not a busy day.
"Can not contact Direct Ferries to explain the problem below."
Hi, When I arrived at the check in for Brittany Ferries - they said I should have been charged an extra £10 each way for my bike. This is not what your website said when booking. Direct Ferries Reference Number: DFP20184811 Brittany Ferries Reference Number: SF57651 Can you help get a £20 refund. Thanks,
"A pleasant and unhurried experience"
The St Malo to Portsmourh crossing takes nearly nine hours, but does not seem that long. It is well worth eating in the restaurant, which offers a fabulous hors d'ouvre and table of desserts. A comfortable crossing, but a bit expensive. One minus: air conditioning much too cold. Don't leave the overcoat in you car!
"Genuinely excellent, relaxing and well equipped; made my holiday start a day early!"
Ship was in good order. Dinner was incredible, such a spread of food and very affordable. Wine list was small but adequate with good range in price and quality. Cabin was clean, quiet and comfortable all with en-suite facilities that worked well. Breakfast was also great. The biggest difference this crossing makes to other channel crossings is time, a full nights rest and starting our journey in West France with less traffic and no need to negotiate Paris made the holiday feel like it started a day early!
"Great way to wrap up the holiday"
Both ways on the ferry was definitely a part of the journey the kids were looking forward to and a relaxed way to break a long drive. We always make ours an excuse to catch up with friends.
"Disappointed "
The worse meal I've had ordered the mushroom ravioli it was over cooked cold and was discussing never again
"Would go again"
A good crossing arriving in Rotterdam feeling refreshed without the hassle of airport queues. Easy boarding in the can, ship facilities were good but we did have to change the cabin as the first one smelled like an old trainer so we upgraded to an outside one which was fine.
"St Malo to Portsmouth Ferry"
Very convenient, the option for a comfortable cabin was great.
"First experience on Brittany Ferries"
Had an evening journey over to St Malo, booked a cabin. Has a meal in the cafe, pleasant. Had a drink in the lounge and watched a bit of the entertainment which was good but we were tired so went to bed. Cabin comfortable, was woken up early morning by the ships alarm, what a good idea. Had a shower, not bad at at all. Had coffee in another of the cafes. Before you know it, you are instructed to go to your vehicles. Journey home to Portsmouth, don't know how I did that but had booked a seat in the exclusive area. Very comfortable but disappointed when one of the ships stewards placed a drunken young lad in there who then proceeded to be a little sick and use foul language, don't know why they didn't put him in a cabin.
"Pleasant crossing to St Malo"
The helipad/sun deck was great on the return, it was a shame our cabin was so small (bunk beds) but otherwise okay. Café self serve has reasonable food and not egregiously expensive.
"min cruise to St Malo"
Evening departure from Portsmouth to St Malo The ship was very clean and the mainly French crew were all very helpfull and friendly the return trip was very much the same.
"Great experience"
Great trip. Very comfortable.
"First motobike trip, but not the last with Britany Ferries."
The check in was quick and simple. Boarding with the motobike was very efficient and bike was carefully secured. The staff from the checkin to the garage were really friendly and helpful. Straight to cabin which was clean and ready, a little dated but basic. I took the meal in the main restaurant, 30 GBP for four french courses turned out to be a bargin. Staff serving were very helpful and polite. A good nights sleep, docked on time and a smooth transition off...exellent service all round.😊😊
"Poor customer phone line from Direct Ferries, but good experience on the boat."
It is easy to store your bicycle when you get on the boat and a shower and dry cabin is just what you need after a long ride. The cabins are clean and the air circulates properly and I slept well. The French woman at passport control on the way home gave me a cabin at the last minute for free, which was great. The food is fine but you cant get any fresh salad. Dont bother ringing up Direct Ferries for any information about the boat. The woman on the phone seemed a bit annoyed I had rung, said she didn't know what the cabins were like, if they had drinking water (they do!) or what the reclining seats were like, or if you could upgrade to a cabin at the port (you can!). Some of this information would have been very useful before I left. The staff on the boat were polite and helful.
"Ferry from Portsmouth to St. Malo"
Overall a wonderful experience. Everything went according to plan with timings, and the evening meal in the restaurant is stupendous. One thing I must remember, and which I think is a bit strange. I booked a two berth disabled cabin for my elderly parents, but it transpired this is a bunk bed arrangement. There is no way one of them could get into the top bunk. I think it is just the toilet and shower which is disabled accessible. Fortunately there was a 4 berth cabin available so they could both be in a single bed on the ground rather than one of them in a bunk. I will remember in future, but it would be helpful to make this clear on the booking forms. Also, it would be helpful if there were more vegetarian options on the menu for both the restaurant and buffet.
"Recent trip "
Lovely ship fantastic staff. Food great choice on both self service and buffet. Just be careful when booking cabin. We had a cabin for two lol bunk beds. One of us has both knees replaced the other has a hip replacement and recovering from broken femur both pensioners so found it very difficult to use the bunks Nevertheless was very comfortable.
"Ferry to saint Malo"
Generally nice ferry and good value for money as passenger only. Could have more comfortable seats, rather than modern design would be nice to have more comfortable seats for long crossing. Cakes were nice and good price, cappuccino however was just a bitter coffee with hardly any milk and no resemblance to a cappuccino, can't recommend that.
"Glad I won't have to do that ever again"
Dreadful. Unfortunately as we booked lat there were no cabins left, so we had to sit on the recliner chairs all night. This really should not be offered as an option it is horrendous. We landed in St Malo having no slept a wink all night with a 10 hour drive ahead of us. If there are no cabins, that should be it, you can't book. it's just a money grabbing exercise. We ate in the main restaurant and ordered from the menu. The food was just awful, it was inedible. who puts lettuce on a warm soup like starter, the sauce on the seafood dish was so runny it could only we described as soup, so could not be eaten with a fork. The main course was duck, this was so over cooked and dried out, I presume from sitting under a heat lamp, I could have soled my boots with it, unacceptable. The deserts were just awful. I find it hard to believe that you employ trained chefs, they cam make such a mess of the meals. The menu was far too fancy there was no option to have something plain or simple, everything was over complicated. the next horror was the bill, #90 for a pile of disgusting food, we ended up buying crisps we were so hungry. As my title says, glad i won't ever have to travel with Brittany Ferries every again.
"Bretagne"
Most things were very good - only slight complaint would be that I am in a wheelchair and, although I was clearly marked with a wheelchair on the side that I needed to get out, they tried to park me too close to the boat and I had to get out and have my wife move the car. Coming back from France on the 25/5 I did not have the same problem.
"Exceeded my expectations"
As a family we have always chosen the tunnel rather than the ferry following a grim ferry trip 15 years ago. I travelled with Brittany Ferries from St Malo to Portsmouth in late May 2017. Wow! Helpful, welcoming staff, spotlessly clean boat, really lovely food and a very pleasant crossing. What a revelation - I would actively choose to travel with Brittany Ferries again. 5 star recommendation!
"Life made easy !"
This has to be one of the best points of crossing into France if you want to chill out and enjoy an evening aboard with excellent food ,great service and a comfortable place to lay your head in preparation for an early start the next morning. A joy from start to finish .
"Fun trip - hard beds!"
Fun and intriguing way to travel from England to France. Food was very good. Ship was clean and well maintained. We traveled overnight and reserved two rooms to sleep in. Unfortunately the mattresses were very, very hard. Nine of us slept well and we all woke up quite sore. That said, we would do it again, but hope they improve the beds.
"St Malo to Portsmouth with Brittany Ferries"
An excellent ferry, modern and comfortable, for this daytime crossing 10:30 - 17:30. Not full (of cars) by any means so embarking/disembarking fast and efficient. Only problem was noise from about 100 excited French schoolchildren!
"Good way to travel "
Easy to load and unload the car. Good facilities. Whilst perhaps not to cruise ship standards the cabin was very comfortable and quite spacious. On board facilities were very acceptable as was the food.

"Great easy trip"
The overnight outward leg to st malo sped by as we enjoyed a nice meal a few drinks in the piano bar and got a good nights sleep before docking on time at 8.15am. The way back was during the day but unlike a flight again passed quickly as we enjoyed lunch and dinner and took in a film at the cinema. The ships are a little tired decorwise but this is offset by the great facilities food and staff. Would recommend
"An Enjoyable Experience"
The overall overnight crossings were very enjoyable in terms of facilities of the Bretagne (outward) and Pont Aven (return). The crews of both boats were very helpful and obliging in relation to keep you informed of the current status as well as providing answers to any questions. Prior to boarding on both occasions, once we had passed through Customs and Passport checks (at both ports) it took a very long time before we were called for boarding. This might have been because we had a medium trailer and they obviously had to load individual cars and HGV`s prior to larger vans and vehicles towing trailers. At Portsmouth Port there were toilet facilities on the departure side, but not at St Malo Port where it would be beneficial.
"Exciting "
This was our first such experience and we weren't disappointed. We travelled overnight from Portsmouth -> St Malo then spent the day at Mont St Michel before returning on the very same ship for the next overnight crossing from St Malo -> Portsmouth. On the outbound voyage, we ate at the sit down restaurant which served decent food with excellent service. Upon leaving the Portsmouth dock, the ship was very noisy, vibrating and rattling all the crockery and cutlery. Not in an alarming way, but it's still worth noting. The staff told us this was unusual. The rest of the voyage was uneventful. Our cabin was comfortable, if a little dated. The wake-up call music that is broadcast shipwide is a beautiful way to be woken from your (admittedly shallow) slumber. On the return voyage, we ate in the self service restaurant, which was more like an office canteen in terms of food quality. Portions were large. The voyage was much smoother than the outbound journey and we slept much better. All in all a very agreeable trip.
"Excellant first time use of Ferry"
As newbies to the world of Ferry's, I'm delighted to state we were impressed with Direct Ferries, both on cost, and ease of paperwork. We will certainly be using Brittany Ferries again too. The Ferry itself was clean, with excellent value in the self catering, and bar with good light hearted evening entertainment,. Down side, the cabins, the air conditioning didn't work and sounded like a tank all night, the queue sitting in the vehicles to board and unboard was overly slow when taking into account the time of year.
"Home for Christmas"
An excellent journey from St Malo to Portsmouth. Smooth crossing. Excellent facilities. Catering was very good. The whole journey was a very good experience and we arrived on time.
"French"
No problems on the trip.
"Good trip but tight parking space"
The trip was excellent, punctual and smooth. The boat was clean, modern and had great cabins. The only let down was the cramped space on Deck A4. I have a small car, a Peugeot 208, but both driver and passenger could barely get out because the doors were both pressed so hard against the rails on one side and the next car on the other. It was not possible to remove a suitcase from the rear passenger seats.
"overnight Portsmouth - St Malo and return"
V.good, smooth crossing. Found the on board instructions referenc e cabin directions a bit confusing however lots of helpful staff. Unable to book rwo-birth cabin without bunks this we found tricky for one 79 and one 75 year old, but survived the top bunk! Comfortable. Excellent meal in restuarant - booked out on return trip so we tried self service- also excellent and a lot cheaper. Embarking and disembarking totally controlled and excellent with no delays.
"Great service"
All the staff are very helpful and despite the delay caused by strong currents (outwith their control) they efficiently dealt with any problems and were helpful from start to finish
"enjoyable trip"
Brittany Ferries overnight trip from Portsmouth to St Malo is a very easy way to travel. We never felt rushed, the staff were polite, friendly and helpful, we had time for a great self service meal and a film in the cinema, before getting a good nights sleep in the cosy but comfy cabin. We left feeling refreshed and fit for the 8 hour drive ahead.
"Quick trip to France"
Restaurant, Catering Bar and general ambiance exceeded my expectations.
"Excellent."
A most enjoyable trip. Loaded early, found cabin then a superb dinner in the restaurant - well worth the money. A restful night, quick cup of coffee and off the ship for the long drive south. Could not have worked better.
"holiday visit to France"
Travelled with my wife, daughter and her boyfriend. Ferry was on time and we had a good crossing. Daughter and boyfriend enjoyed some but not all of the caberet. Staff very friendly and helpful. On disembarkation we noticed one of the crew going down the isle of cars with a jump starter. Little did my wife and I know that it was for my daughters boyfriends car. He held things up a little but all came good in the end. Had a good holiday and returned on the same ferry. I would recommend this crossing to everyone travelling to Brittany. Very relaxing andcomfortable.
"Miam!!!"
We use ferry's between France and England quite a lot .. maybe 4 to 6 times a year ... and this journey is the best. Brittany provide a really pleasurable and comfortable journey, and most importantly, have excellent catering services. A high point of our journey was to relax and enjoy the buffet with a bottle of Gewurtztraminer. All staff from arrival, deck/parking and on passenger levels and restaurants were very pleasant and welcoming. We will definitely be using the ferry again.

"A great ferry trip "
Exciting to travel overnight on ferry to France from England. Great trip, evening entertainment and good cabin.
"Short break"
Decided on the spur of the moment to take up the special offer fare. It was certainly considerably cheaper. We have used this crossing several times before and it is ok. Probably because we're getting older we think we will go for a cabin next time rather than the reclining seats, which are fine coming back during the day.
"Good once again"
There is little to say about the quality of this ship. It suits us down to the ground. There are plenty of choices for sailing times.
"Journey from St MALO"
We enjoyed the journey and although it was long it was relaxing. Coming back was better with an overnight crossing.
"Crossing to St.Malo"
Everything was 'plain sailing' and all went to plan without any problems. Fast and efficient service at an affordable price. I can definitely recommend this crossing as you arrive early next morning already further into France therefore less distance to travel when heading south.
"Good Trip"
We found all of your staff to be excellent. The people on the book in at Poole at 6.30 in the morning were very very kind and they were a pleasure to deal with. Others could take lessons from your staff. All knew what they were doing and put us all in the right place and the right time.
"Very pleasant "
Great crossings ..very pleasent staff .
"Easy trip!"
Despite having booked for the previous night in error,we were able to change dates very easily. Didn't like bow-stern orientation of bunks which accentuated the ship's motion. Ok meal. Easy xrossing.
"An enjoyable crossing."
Boarding was well organised, we were given a card reminding us of our garage location. Staff very helpful and friendly, a well equipped boat, with a range of entertainment for all ages. The food was of good quality and very reasonably priced. An overall very good experience.
"Impressive service"
I thoroughly enjoyed the trip. And the food on offer was truly impressive! Thank you all!
"St Malo - Portsmouth"
Having crossed two weeks earlier on the fast crossing between Portsmouth & Cherbourg we'd favoured the ease of staying in St Malo & leaving on the 10:30 morning ferry. We'd not given it much more thought than that, however we were both pleasantly surprised by how much we & more so the kids enjoyed it. We did have very calm seas but more so the boat crew, facilities were excellent & the kids loved the panto. All in all a very easy & surprisingly relaxing finish to the end of the holiday.
"good but not good value for money"
The staff were very competent and the ship was spacious and certainly not overcrowded. The service was very good in the restaurant and although the food looked wonderful, it was extremely limited for vegetarians. We ate a plate of ratatouille, which was very good, but there was no choice for those of us who don't eat meat or fish. I felt that the trip was extremely overpriced and learned from others that they had paid much less for the same journey.
"Great service on board!"
We were pleasantly surprised by the standard of the food served in the main restaurant. The quality and range of choices on the buffet and a la carte menu were excellent and the service was faultless. It was good to have the option of a quiet space in the reclining seat area, something we would have appreciated on the crossing to Santander where we could not escape the loud children's quiz entertainment. The ship is, I believe, due for a refit. It is looking a little worn but overall a very positive experience.
"8 hours of relaxation"
Crossing the sea between Portsmouth and St. Malo with Brittany Ferries was worth every penny. Everything was superb; especially the food.
"Smooth return"
A three week visit had turned into a fraught three months through serious illness. We needed a relaxing journey home and that was provided. From the quayside to disembarkation, the staff members were extremely pleasant, the meal was excellent, the cabin clean and comfortable and the crossing was smooth. Thank you.
"Round trip to St. Malo from Portsmouth "
Ship was very clean and comfortable. Food in the self service restaurant was very good value for money and well presented. Plenty of on board activities if required.
"Cabins far too hot, everything else good"
Boarding took a long time no reason given for the delay, may have been because of the 28 vintage rolls royces that got to go on first, Food in the restaurant really excellent. Very good singer in the main bar, but she needs a stylist to advise her on clothes. Inner cabin so hot it was hard to breath, never mind sleep. Very quick getting off at St Malo. Quick boarding on return, we had a day cabin, which was good for the long crossing, quite restful. Quiz in the bar was fun, although didn't seem to be advertised, just info at the bar, so only 3 teams. Lovely food at the self service restaurant, had one of the best Entrecote steaks I have had perfectly cooked to my request.
"Decent Crossing"
I thought the crossing was excellent. All the staff were friendly, helpful and polite. The catering was a good standard , and the prices were reasonable. Considering you are a captive audience, the could be a lot worse. I thought it was a very pleasant experience.
"MOTORCYCLE TRIP HOME"
I had to make a quick change to the dates of return. On to the phone, quickly changed the date and time, easy. All went fantastically well and to top it all the weather was the best we had all holiday sitting at the back of the ferry. I would definitely use the ferry again to get to that part of France.
"First time with Brittany ferries"
Due to the fuel shortages on whit week, we decided to book a return journey by ferry from St Malo to Portsmouth. Wow, are we glad we did. Having never been on a ferry for many many years, I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth the process was and amazed at what I thought were excellent facilities. We had a cabin last minute and it was clean, comfortable and the ensuite was great. We had a lovely evening meal, and the entertainment for kids was brill. Had a very comfortable sleep, awoke, showered and breakfast - and we were there. Even better no awful drive around London to get home. A complete revelation and we will now always be booking a ferry for the homewards journey.
"Heading home"
Very satisfied with crossing from St Malo to Portsmouth. Had a meal which was lovely. Coming back from warmer weather in France I would recommend wearing warm clothes as it is not too warm on board. Staff very pleasant and helpful.
"A perfect start"
Loading with car was easy. Finding cabin was easy. Abers restaurant food was delicious, the buffet is to die for. Although there were 2 of us, we are in our seventies, so we had booked a 4 berth cabin, glad we did, compact and 'bijou!' Disembarking took time as the ferry was pretty full. Staff all helpful, smiling and delightful. The perfect start to our week away.
"a short notice trip"
the trip was booked at short notice and spent quite a bit of time looking at all forms of travel and sites. the I found direct ferries who have been able to offer an amazing price even better than direct with the company. great work guys the trip was a great break
"Will I Won't I"
I recently travelled to UK, and then to France via Eurostar. (April 16) My travels took me to St Malo in France, and I had to decide whether to travel back to UK by Eurostar or the Brittany Ferry crossing. Decided that the Ferry crossing to Portsmouth ( there are other destinations) put me closer to The New Forest , my next stop, I'm so glad I did. Ferry crossing was easy, I had a two berth cabin, and although small was extremely comfortable and secure to leave luggage and wander the ships facilities with ease. Fantastic service, professional and helpful. Fully catered souvenirs etc and both ports were clean and secure. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend, P. from Australia.
"A Smooth Crossing"
Arrived in France, refreshed and ready for the day. Comfortable cabin, lots to do onboard a great experience and all on time.
"Excellent quality"
Another brilliant time spent aboard both ships. The only downside was a school party which blocked the self service restaurant on the Normandie. We recently travelled to Ireland on Irish ferries and they had separate dining areas and reception areas( including their own disco) for school parties... a much better idea. The food in the restaurant on the Bretagne was good as usual but it is about time the menu was changed. Excellent staff on both ships.
"St Malo to Portsmouth"
We had a nice smooth crossing. The booking was easy, as was the boarding in St Malo. We had an outside cabin, clean and roomy with a good shower. The main resteraunt was friendly with a good choise of menus. Opted for the dinner buffet. In the morning we chose the breakfast buffet menu. Dis -embarking went as smooth as the loading. Excellent value, would use this route again.
"Experience on Brittany Ferries"
My first journey on Brittany Ferries was undertaken in February 2016 from St Malo to Portsmouth. I was most impressed with the courtesy of the crew, the cleanliness of the boat and the air of quiet efficiency. This was in great contrast to my experience on other cross-channel ferries over the years. Not least, I was also impressed with the general behaviour of the French schoolchildren who were on board in large numbers. Would that their English counterparts could be so well behaved!
"Excellent"
A very pleasant crossing, thank you.
"Clean, quiet, efficient"
We were struck by the cleanliness in all areas. Uncrowded and plenty of quiet places to sit. Helpful and efficient service. Would choose to pay onboard in UK pounds not euros next time - better value.
"Beautiful Journey home"
A stunning way to finish our trip, sailing out of St Malo as we watched the sun rise over the walled city and ort. The staff were competent and approachable, the food tasty and the seating comfortable and spacious. Thank you France, we had an awesome stay and thank you Brittany Ferries, you will be highly recommended when we return to Australia.

"Nice ride"
I enjoyed the trips between Portsmouth and St. Malo. Staff were courteous and prices for the trip and onboard were reasonable. Would definitely do it again. Only criticism was that the windows were dirty and hard to see the views unless outside on deck.
"Quick trip to France"
So straightforward with booking and crossings. We were very impressed and enjoyed both our night crossing and daytime return.
"A great start and end to our holiday"
I enjoyed the ferry sleeping in a cabin, was an ideal way to begin our holiday. friendly personnel, good facilities. Would recommend it. The return journey was in the daytime, I still had a cabin again I would recommend this as it affords a quiet place to retire to.
"Trip to Brittany "
Great trip as always, good food, good service in the self service, calm crossing. Comfy cabin though a bit of a squeeze
"What a relaxing way to travel"
Made the journey part of the holiday, Great food in the restaurant, cosy cabin and friendly staff. Woke refreshed and ready to tackle any continental journey. recommended.
"experience"
this is the first time we have used your service. Boarding very good, cabin adequate, facilities on board excellent. Thoroughly recommend it. In fact have already booked another trip across in December.
"Fantastic crossings"
First time towing a large trailer, so we were a little apprehensive. From the moment we were checked in to arrival, we were looked after brilliantly. Helpful staff, clean environment- I'd definitely use Brittany ferries again
"Portsmouth St Malo ferry"
Excellent food and service but would be good if wifi range was extended to reserved seating areas
"great start of the holiday"
Coming from Woking, Surrey, Portsmouth is only an hour away so a very short drive to the start of the holidays. We booked fairly late so only 2-person cabins were available but this is fine when travelling with 2 young children, each parent can take 1 child. We went to dinner at the a la carte restaurant (we stood in line straight after getting on board, don't wait until you've sailed as it will be full), which had a great selection of buffet style entrees and desserts and really nice mains for such large numbers. The waiting staff was a bit impatient, but that just got us in the right mood for France:). Seated next to the piano bar, we were also treated to a nice concerto for part of the dinner and the kids got a nice surprise-box afterwards. The cabins were comfortable and we were awoken by Breton harp-music an hour before arrival to make sure we were back in our car on time. Take some breakfast along as this is hard to come by in the morning, unless you rise really early before the harps. Once off the ship, you drive easily from the harbour to your destination, in our case a 2 hour drive to southern Brittany. A great relaxing start to our holiday.
"Nice Journey back"
Easy and slick access process on to the ferry. Food and restaurant options varied and reasonable value. Purchased seating in a lounge which was nice and quiet. Cinema with good films to view if you wish, I don't have children but it seemed they were provided with a fair selection of entertainment. Toilets I used were clean. Ship a touch late arriving / letting us depart.
"Excellent"
Great ship, great food, easy journey. Only minor problem was a failure of the projector part way through a film which was a serious disappointment to children. However full refunds were forthcoming. Will definitely use again.
"St Malo remembered"
It is over 20 years since we last used the Brittany Ferries St Malo route. We remember how we enjoyed the crossing on that occasion and it was just as pleasurable this time. The staff were exceedingly polite and helpful and disembarkation was very efficient. We would definitely use B.F. when we visit this part of France again.
"weekend trip"
Great value, easy to book, comfortable, tasty pizzas and a comprehensive whiskey tasting!
"Portsmouth to St. Malo and back"
Ferries are just about my favourite way to travel, and this Brittany Ferry trip was great! We had a cabin for the overnight sailing, but the reclining seats were very spacious and comfortable and I probably could have slept in one. Facilities were more than adequate, and staff very helpful. A really relaxing way to cross the channel, though we were lucky to have fine weather and smooth seas.
"Trip on the Bretagne"
A smooth and comfortable crossing. The food was reasonable and not expensive.
"Good crossing."
We had a very smooth crossing on the Bretagne last Thursday (02/07/15). The ship was clean (apart from very smelly WCs outside the lounge on deck 9 (where we had our reclining seat). Unfortunately the departure was over 30 minutes late, and arrival in Portsmouth therefore the same (although the captain strangely blamed our late arrival on 'strong currents'!). Better organisation at St Malo would have eased traffic congestion (and possibly reduced the delay): a long line of cars snaked way out from the port, past the roundabout as we arrived. When we eventually passed through the port gates, cars suddenly started leaving the long queue to go through three other gates that were showing they were (now?) open. Just one person directing traffic as it entered the port would solve this. After docking at Portsmouth, it took quite some time to disembark - around 25-30 minutes. But perhaps this is the norm for such a large ferry? And entering a much smaller port than Dover? This was our first St Malo - Portsmouth crossing, so we were not quite sure what to expect. However, overall it was a good experience, and one we would happily repeat!
"A great way to travel. "
We splashed out and booked Commodore class which is well worth the extra. Arriving at St. Malo instead of Calais cuts out a lot of driving as we were headed south to Indres. The food on board was very good and the staff really helpful.
"Ferry To St Malo"
Going from Portsmouth to St Malo on a Triumph Tiger Sport. Very impressed with the way they handled tethering the bike for the journey. We had a cabin and were impressed with cleanliness and even had TV. Food on board and evening entertainment made for a very pleasant journey. Return journey was just as pleasant sun bathed on the deck only one issue homeward bound back to work.
"First but not last"
Never fancied the long crossing to France and always drove to Dover, 250 mile return, but probably never again. We were going to a celebration in St Malo so it made sense to go direct ( Portsmouth) to St Malo and as foot passengers. Can get to ferry terminal by bus and easy check in for the crossing. We were on board before most of the cars and soon located our cabin. Small but adequate and an excellent shower. Interesting departure from Portsmouth and once past the Isle of Wight time to turn in. Very surprised how easy it was to get a nights comfortable sleep and next event was the wake you up music. Just as easy departing the ship, or is it a boat and in St Malo in minutes. The staff were very good and the boat very clean. I will certainly use this route again particularly to visit the stunning beach and walled city of St Malo.
"Trip to St Malo"
I travelled to St Malo by ferry and enjoyed a very relaxing crossing. Great menu in the main restaurant and amazing view leaving the UK. The cabin was very comfortable. I very much recommend it.
"Another good Brittany crossing"
Punctual & prompt boarding. Smooth crossing. Helpful staff. Excellent food. Good value. We'll be back on board in 4 weeks time.
"Coming Home"
It was a very pleasant crossing, calm sea and very courteous staff. Bit nerve racking driving up the steep access - never done this before - but once on the level parking area there was plenty of room for all.
"5th Crossing in 12 months."
We have sailed overnight twice this last year, and made a couple of day sailings, all with Brittany Ferries. The ferries were always clean, the staff were very good and attentive, the cabins were clean and very suitable for a night's sleep, and finally the food was well cooked, and well presented ,in the main restaurant, by very professional staff. I would certainly recommend Brittany Ferries to anyone crossing to France or Spain from Poole or Portsmouth. We will certainly use them again.
"Economy but good"
This was our first trip on the Britany Ferry "Economie" service to La Havre. The ship was very clean and standard excellent. Although only one resturant, the food was very good and offering a wide choice and good value. I can recomend this service. Not really Econonomy but good value.
"Plymouth ferry"
Generally a very good trip and not overcrowded which made a pleasant crossing.
"Hard times up-top"
Whilst the cabin was generally fine, both bunk-style beds were very hard on the anatomy and pillows lacking in support. There was only one thin one each. Climbing onto the upper bunk is proving harder with advancing years too so, if you are 70yrs+, be well warned! The morning came around remarkably quickly however, especially as it was supposed to be a rough passage! The food was excellent though and the restaurant particularly nice.
"Great sailing "
Very comfortable cabin but not tea making facilities, weather was exceptional for October so the sailing was a breeze.
"Roscoff to Cork"
First time to Cork, but thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Staff very helpful, boat clean and food excellent.
"A wonderful end to a glorious holiday"
An excellent ship with helpful crew and comfortabl3e cabin. But easily the highlight was dinner in the restaurant. Magnificent surroundings, professional staff and the most delicious food imaginable - all at reasonable cost. Just perfect after a long drive from the Bordeaux region. We could not recommend the 'Bretagne' too highly.
"Prtsmouth to St Malo and back"
My wife and me decided en-route that this was the most civilised way of travelling. After a 256 mile trip from the North West to Portsmouth we embarked and sat down to a lovely meal in the self service restaurant, top quality and very satisfying. We had elected to sleep in the public recliner chairs as we'd done this previously with no problems. I guess it's pot luck as this time we had multi snorers and other bodily noises, plus an inconsiderate bunch arrived from the bar and made a racket. On the return trip we opted a bunk bed. A splendid experience, good facilities, food and staff. Organisation of the cars on and off makes the whole thing very easy. I would recommend Brittany Ferries.
"Unanticipated Quality"
WE arrived on board anticipating your regular ferry but were blown away by the quality and service we received in the full service restaurant. My wife and I both opted for the full a la carte menu and were treated to without doubt one of the best meals we had in Europe during our 5 week trip. The food was exceptional, the presentation was superb and the price was quite reasonable. The inside cabin which we ended up with, as we were a little late with our reservation was well ventilated, great sound insulation, pleasant and comfortable and we both had a full nights sleep with no disturbances. Only problem was as we enjoyed breakfast before disembarkation, we were both showered with glass and orange juice as another passenger dropped a full bottle of orange juice from their tray onto the tiled walkway between the tables, right next to us.
"simple"
the best way to go to france and onwards arrive board eat drink sleep disembark no problems whatso ever
"Shut that door quietly,thank you"
Hi,had a very nice voyage, both ways the staff were very helpful and polite.Only anoying thing the door banging on the 8 deck lounge seating area.
"Porsmouth-St Malo-return"
The loading of my motorcycle could not have been easier or more efficient. Care was taken to ensure it was strapped down safely and securely . Uncomfortable seats ensure you don't sit for long in one position. Unfortunately, the windows were so mired with dried salt that it was impossible to see the view through them without thinking it was foggy outside even in bright sunshine ! There were water jets outside over each window designed to hose the salt off......but evidently the system was not working and hadn't been for some time. Staff were cheerful, friendly and polite and their service was very good indeed. Pricing for this ferry seemed to vary day by day and depended on who you went through with your online booking. I thought my fare of 98 pounds return was very reasonable and I will have no hesitation in using this friendly, efficient service again.
"Brittany ferries"
We had an excellent crossing with Brittany ferries. From the moment we were directed onto the ferry. The staff were very efficient in directing us into our parking place. We had breakfast as soon as we boarded. The food was very good and excellent value. The ferry was clean and tidy. We had a 2 berth cabin which again was clean and tidy. We had lunch at the restaurant. Excellent food and service. At first we thought it was a little expensive but the quality was excellent and it was worth every penny. A great end to our holiday in France. We will certainly travel on Brittany ferries again.
"Portsmouth to St Malo"
Our family of 3 adults and 2 children had 2 most enjoyable crossings between Portsmouth and St Malo on the 4th and 10th of August. The night crossing was good although cabins with 4 people are a little cosy my cabin for 2 with just me in it was positively spacious .Returning we had a lovely meal in the restaurant with excellent sea food and scrumtious desserts. Then watched a very professional panto We will certainly travel with .Brittany ferries again.
"Overnight and return day time"
We had a fantastic journey and experience both ways. All staff were extremely helpful at all time , overnight cabin was great. Entertainment for the kids brilliant on return, aged 3 and 6! Would definitely do it all again.
"All went smoothly!!"
Ideal ship for an overnight trip - probably lacking if you've got to spend 6 / 7 hrs during the day time, but overnight its good for arriving, a meal, perhaps an hour or two entertainment and then a reasonable amount of sleep, before arriving in France at a respectable time to continue your journey. Staff were very helpful and friendly and the ship departed and arrived on time.
"Portsmouth-caen crossing"
I have not travelled with Brittany ferries for some years as I am not a good sailor. I was incredibly impressed with the level of service on this crossing. The staff were friendly and helpful, the entertainment fo rthe children was a blessing, allowing parents to have a bit of a break while their kids were being entertained (the panto was a great experience for my 5 year old). The best thing however was the food in the restaurante which can only be decsibed as outstanding. The buffet table of starters was a gastronomic delight. The only problem was leaving enough room for the outstanding main course. Beautiful food cooked with great skill. I was not particularly looking forward to the ferry crossing, especially with 2 young children but I have to say I really enjoyed it. Far less stressful than air travel.
"Excellent Staff"
A very enjoyable crossing - the staff on the ship were extremely helpful and friendly. There was plenty to do and the 8+ hours flew by. The food in the restaurant was good quality and good value for money.
"Portsmouth to St Malo"
Excellent sailing on the Bretagne
"on board with kids"
We were in a group of 3 families with kids aged between 6 and 9. We took the overnight ferry to St Malo which was faultless, thanks to calm waters. We came back on the day ferry and could not have wanted for a better experience. The staff kept us entertained with quizzes and plays and dancing throughout the journey, the kids loved it...they even took part in Brittany Has Talent, ( I do think the staff should have played the music for the children though !! ). The staff were friendly and attentive at all times. The cabins were clean. the seating areas were clean. The choices of food and drinks were ample. Definitely a pleasurable experience.
"Good trip"
A comfortable and relaxing journey. The food was very good and not expensive. Will certainly do this ferry crossing again although it has to said the sea conditions was very benign.
"nice cruise"
We took the ferry overnight from St. Malo to Portsmouth. It's a beautiful, large ship, with excellent facilities. Economy room was very nice. Lots of facilities and entertainment on the ship. A first class sail.
"Like a Cruise"
We thoroughly enjoyed our crossing because the boat was very clean and well organised. We had a meal in the a la carte restaurant, bought some gifts in the shop, went to the wi-fi area to check our emails and send some and rested in our reclining seats for a short time. Most of all we were so pleased to be able to sit out on the front deck and soak up the sunshine. We felt as though we were on a cruise and expected to be disembarking in the Caribbean! It really was a lovely experience and we shall not hesitate to tell our friends and to book with Brittany Ferries in the future.
"Portsmouth to St Malo ferry"
Nine of us were traveling to St Malo for a holiday celebration - all a little bit apprehensive at the thought of 11 hours on the sea! (We had overnight berths) The ferry was excellent in every way - well organized, extremely clean, child friendly, plenty for the children to do. The food in the self serve cafe was extremely good, and sensibly priced. The Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend Brittany Ferries and hopefully will be using them again in the future.
"No problems"
Straight forward from beginning to end. Especially enjoyed the food! Many thanks.
"Happy Journey"
I was very impressed with the service I received on board. Everyone was very helpful and the journey was very enjoyable.
"Superb service yet again"
Superb service yet again from Direct Ferries and Britanny Ferries.
"Lovely Yacht!"
My wife and I loved this two way crossing on the Bretagne (got confused with Britannia sometimes) The crew are polite, efficient and welcoming, without being intrusive. We had a cabin for the night crossing (Portsmouth - St Malo) which was spotlessly clean and comfortable with simply adjustable air conditioning that worked! There are so many different facilities on this ship that you can simply find where you feel most comfortable. We especially enjoyed some time in the Piano Bar, next to the most beautiful lounge (I have a picture of that as my screen saver now). The food was excellent in the self service restaurant, our gigot of lamb being griddled on the spot. We were sorry to hear that the Bretagne is due for replacement in a few years time, we just hope many of the fine features of this craft are replicated! Even a special word for the captain who had to effect an emergency stop for an obdurate and very incorrectly skippered sailing boat that insisted upon a collision course outside St Malo on the return trip, despite proper sound signals from the Bretagne.
"A night crossing "
The staff is very nice, it's clean, everything is there, see you next time.
"First timers"
The voyage from Portsmouth to St Malo with Brittany ferries was very good. Only downside was having 2 very large suitcases in the cabin! - Also one of the elevators not working made for wait to get up and down. Food on board was very good, and staff very helpful.
"Uneventful"
Just the way I like it. No hassle, easy boarding, cabin for one as expected. Rather a lot of French children going home!
"A problem free crossing"
The prestation was conformed to what we were expecting - the access is easy and well indicated. The staff is nice and attentive, the catering is decent, we arrived on time.
"Excellence"
Very good crossing, service good and staff friendly. A very slick operation. Will choose Brittany Ferries each time I cross from UK to France and from France to UK.
"Ferry review"
Everything was very good, punctually, cleanliness etc my only complaint is the noise in the cabin, we had a outside club class cabin which was so noisy we couldn't sleep, we had up graded from a two berth inside cabin and wish we hadn't.
"comments"
The staff was very friendly. It's a pity that the movies don't have subtitles and therefore cannot be understood by people who can't speak English. Otherwise, I think it's not normal to chase a receipt which you don't automatically send when it's a legal document.
"a great outbound crossing, a not so great inbound crossing"
Calm and stress-free crossings, with a calm sea, the journey on board was very pleasant, except for two aspects: -the barman during the inbound trip was very unpleasant -it was so hot in our cabin that we couldn't sleep. we tried unsuccessfully to turn the temperature button. it's a shame because we booked the cabin for that period.
"le Bretagne"
You don't board the "Bretagne", Britanny takes you on a journey!
"St Malo"
Very impressed by the booking in facilities, staff very amenable. Loading was very quick, which usually takes forever when in a van. Best meal so far. Cabin clean, plenty of hot water. After travelling back and forth between England and France for many years, I can honestly say St Malo Portsmouth trip is the most pleasant way to end a long journey.
"Last minute trip with no-hassles service"
The trip was uneventful; I slept for most of it. I don't have any complaints regarding the staff - they seemed competent and approachable. The ticket price could have been cheaper, but was the best I could get, only booking two days in advance of travel. Overall a good experience, look forward to travelling with Brittany Ferries again.
"A very good service"
The crossing went smoothly.
"Happy Chappy"
Excellent service, comfortable cabin (Condor Class) will be back again, Thank You.
"A return crossing between St Malo and Portsmouth"
As our children have been living in England since 2003, it's easier for us, living in Vannes, to cross the Channel between St Malo and Portsmouth rather than to go to Calais. The crossing went very quickly despite the 8 hours on board. The arrival at the port of Portsmouth is amazing. The staff on board is really efficient. They managed the parking the cars, the delivery of the emplacement ticket and the guidance of the customers through a labyrinth of decks (10) in a record time. My wife, who tends to be seasick enjoyed the crossing, although the sea was agitated (the size of the ferry and our position at the back of the ferry probably made things easier). The service on board was very good. Disembarkment was very quick when you consider the number of vehicles. Our next crossing is next week and we're doing it once a monthe
"Cleanliness"
Overall the ship is very comfortable. The cabins were adequate but the beds needed vacuuming around the mattress.
"Bretagne"
We travelled to and from Portsmouth - St Malo recently on the Bretagne as foot passengers. The vessel is in very good condition considering it's age. Staff were very friendly and all seemed to run smoothly. Would use again.
"General"
Travelled as a foot passenger in September so the price was very reasonable and there was lots of room. Thought the self service food was excellent and very good value. The toilet facilities were good and clean and the staff were charming and helpful. I enjoyed the journeys and was lucky as they were both calm and I can be seasick!
"A very confortable journey"
St Malo to Portsmouth 3 to 7 Sept 2013. The boat is well equiped, the staff is polite, the bar and the restaurants are great. The cabin with bed and shower is clean and confortable. I recommend this crossing. PS: Brittany Ferries timetable is not coordinated with the bus. We missed the 8.10 am bus because of a 15 minute delay at disembarkment. We had to wait until 2.30pm for another bus.
"French Trip"
Travelling from Portsmouth to St Malo overnight was alright but in hindsight we should have booked a cabin as I couldn't sleep in the recliner seats due to me having a bad back. Travelling back we sailed early morning, the food was very good and there was quite a few things to do to pass the time away. We look forward to doing it again in the near future.
"Excellent trip"
Calm easy loading. Good food. Reasonably quiet places to snooze. Enjoyed watching the children's entertainment from a distance. I liked having access to the outer decks especially the forecastle.
"A good journey!"
In comparison to a company that we used from Calais to Dover, I must admit that I was surprised with the quality of the reception by Brittany Ferries. I had a very good trip and I would like to thanks you. I hope you keep that friendliness that that client care.
"Our Mini cruise"
Staff all very friendly helpful and polite. Boat was clean and there was a relaxed atmosphere. Children were well catered for with entertainment playroom and cinema, a super way to start and end a holiday. The return trip was just a bit too long if journey could be 6 hrs it would have been perfect!
"Holidays"
Thank you Brittany ferries for a brilliant return trip from two glorious weeks in France. Everything went well from loading on and off to the lovely food. We have no small children but the entertainment provided for little ones is excellent. We really enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and many places to sit and enjoy the crossing.
"A very pleasant journey"
A very pleasant crossing! On time. The service on board was perfect.
"Wonderful Journey"
We are Canadians and this was our first voyage of this type - our previous ferry rides have only been as far as Mallaig to Skye so this was a very different kind of trip. We were thrilled with the experience - a very civilized way to travel, indeed. We booked a berth which was very comfortable and gave us a great chance to rest and have some quiet time. We also took advantage of the movie theatres which was great fun and we had a lovely meal in the restaurant. We are a family of four with two young daughters and we all had a terrific time on the ferry. The service was top notch all around.
"Food on direct ferries"
As ever the food available in the self service restaurant was excellent adn at a good price, though the customer service from the "stroppy" chef left much to be desired!! We felt that the cost of the buffet at the other restaurant was excessive. The snack bar looked good, although we didn't try there food...
"Summer 2013"
Had an excellent trip. Cabin clean and comfortable. Lots of entertainments on board for all ages during the sailings. Meal in restaurant excellent value for money. Food was of a very high standard and there was plenty of it! Would use this ferry again.
"Great visit"
A very comfortable journey both ways.
"GOOD TRIP"
FIRST TIME ON THIS ROUTE AND WAS VERY HAPPY. NO PROBLEMS WITH ANY ASPECT.
"Our ferry trip"
The only negative feature was the delay at the port in the lines of traffic waiting to board. It was better coming back because we arrived earlier. I know that cannot be helped. Other than that it was a superb crossing. A bit expensive.
"Travelling on the StMalo-Portsmouth Ferry"
I enjoyed it very much both coming to Portsmouth and going to St Malo - all very good. The seating and space and Self Service restaurant I thought very good indeed.
"Cozy crossing "
The crossing was very comfortable and entertaining. The cabin was very clean and the food simple but good.
"Sressfree start and end of our holiday in France "
This was a great start and end to a wonderful holiday on a give in Normandy. The ship was in very good order and the crew very helpful. It was super to go to sleep after leaving Portsmouth and wake up refreshed in St Malo, it added a day to our holiday period, for which we are very grateful.
"Extraordinary experiences for ordinary prices"
I can never understand the success of aeroplanes, all that waiting around in queues for a stiff customs man to search you and look at you through x ray. One can in theory get to the destination faster but of my friends who fly I have never heard one tell me how special the flight was. that is why I always ravel across land and sea. Whilst I look forward to arrival I also know that my journey will be an important part of the whole travel experience. The journey by sea from St. Malo to Portsmouth is brilliant and even better with a clear blue sky and the sun decks of the Bretagne offer excellent opportunities to relax with a glass of beer or wine from the piano bar and see the islets off the coast of France as they go past, my only regret is that the journey isn't longer than the advertised nine hours. The Bretagne is an excellent ship with good facilities. Unfortunately the bars only serve Bass beer and not proper bitter, but you can't have everything. The best kept secret is the buffet in the restaurant, at first the price seems high, twenty five quid, but the quality of the food combined with the pile the plate high buffet format make this a special feature of this ship. And what could be better than having a lie down to sleep it all off in one of the excellent cabins. I was fortunate to have a two berth cabin to myself for the sailing which offered excellent value for the extra twenty quid it cost me above the cost of the ferry ticket. So, how could the whole experience be improved? The journey could be longer with perhaps a detour around the Channel Islands and the beer could be a more refined example of English brewing, this ship offers the allure of oceanic cruising for the budget price of a cross channel ferry. Robert
"Baggsie that reclining seat"
Top tip, Dont sit in the resteraunt or bar until you have found your reclining seat. On a recent trip to watch the Tour de France three of us were enjoying the bar a little too much only to then find others sleeping in our seats. Yes we could have woken them up and maybe if we were French we would have, as it was we ended up sleeping on the floor - a lot less comfortable.
"A trip from St Malo to Portsmouth"
A fairly pleasant journey. The installations offer a variety of things to do. My only criticism is that there is a poor choice of products in the shops.
"Portsmouth-St.Malo-St.Malo-Portsmouth"
The experience was very good, especially on a long overnight stay. The entertainment was what you'd expect - fun, but trashy cabaret. Facilities were good, toilets were clean, everything was accessible, plenty of places to shop and eat for all budgets. Food was very good as well, I was very impressed on both trips. I would use Brittany Ferries again, though for an overnight I would invest in a cabin, as the recliner seats are not practical to sleep in for more than a nap, and most people ended up sleeping on the floor, which was the only real option to get any sleep. 8.5/10
"Lovely service"
Portsmouth to St Malo to Portsmouth on Brittany ferries the Bretagne ferry. Super service from all staff - very helpful and friendly - no query a problem. Eat their reasonably priced food in the self-service or bring your own picnic. the restaurant proper a bit too expensive for us. Good ferry service overall. book a cabin overnight on the way out to France and just enjoy the sea vies on the return. our return trip was timed with the Wimbledon final on Sunday 7th July and loads of folks were glued to the t.v's - oohing and ahhing and clapping! Wonderful. a good side and bad side to this boat is the space. Loads of room (good) but spread over a lot of floors (bad). Yes, there is a lift for pushchairs etc. Will definitely use Brittany ferries again.
"Ferry Travel"
Wonderful on board facilities. Great relaxing and scenic way to travel between France and England.
"St Malo - Portsmouth"
All in all a very pleasant journey. We have used Brittany Ferries on several occasions and never had cause to complain. 10/10, Thank You.
"very nice crossing"
Departure and arrival on time. Clean ship. Very good.
"trip to spain"
nice smooth crossing helpfull staff
"Brittany Ferries"
Our journey from St malo to Portsmouth was great, very quick loading, we hardly had to wait, lovely comfy cabin, smooth crossing. Entertainment in the show mlounge was fun too. Breakfast excellent. Very Satisfied.
"Good Trip"
On time, excellent organisation on both boarding and disembarking. Coffee shop facility opening hours could be improved.
"Club class?"
We booked a club class 4 bedder, wasnt exactly the same as the pictures on the website!!
"Beautiful crossing on the Bretagne"
Nothing to fault. Arrival and return on time. Nice weather. Nice sea. We enjoyed the outside during our outbound journey. During the inbound journey, a good sleeping place in the cabin with freshly cleaned pink linen. Some people found the food a bit pricey at the restaurant. We had some delicious coffees, sandwiches and salads for a very decent price. Even the lemon price was worth of a famous pastry chef... Thanks Brittany Ferries!
"Portsmouth to St Malo aboard mv Bretagne"
Everything on the ferry was fine. The ship was clean and the crew very helpful and friendly. The food was excellent. The booking process was easy and problem free. I would be glad to travel with Brittany Ferries again and to use DirectFerries.co.uk
"Trip to France"
Booking with Direct Ferries was very easy and their site is very user friendly. It saved us a considerable amount of money too. No hitches at all and we had a great trip with Brittany ferries, on time, clean and staff helpful.
"Bretagne, sweet Bretagne!"
I live in London and traveled on board The Bretagne from Portsmouth to St Malo to go home for few days. It''s a nice, not too big ferry. The food is good quality for value and the entertainment very family orientated, with singers and magician. I booked the night crossing, but too late to get a cabin, so I got a reclining seat. It''s "ok" for few hours, but I ended up sleeping on the floor as most people in the salon. On a final note, it was a good experience, cheaper than the plane and I really enjoyed the arrival overlooking St Malo!
