Barfleur
Operated by Brittany Ferries
Barfleur
Operated by Brittany Ferries
Operated by Brittany Ferries on the Poole Cherbourg route
Launched in 1992, the Barfleur is named after a picturesque, small fishing village in Normandy, only 25 kilometres from Cherbourg. Smaller than the rest of Brittany Ferries fleet, she offers en suite cabin accommodation, self service restaurant, bar and reclining seat lounges.
Barfleur features around 60 ensuite air conditioned cabins, both inside and outside and all come supplied with fresh linen and towels. Soap and shower gel are also provided in case you want to freshen up and you'll also find at least 1 plug socket to use or to charge any electrical appliances that you may have. The ship also features pre-reservable reclining seat lounges.
The main restaurant on Barfleur is the self-service restaurant ‘Turquoise’ which offers a fantastic choice of foods from around the world, as well as French favourites such as minute steaks, cooked to your liking on the spot! There's also a salad buffet, great choice of desserts, and drinks, including wines and beers to accompany your meal. You can also enjoy special meals rates for children. Situated towards the rear of the ship, Les Alizés Bar is a great place to relax during your crossing. Enjoy a great choice of beverages with everything from the finest French wines to delicious cocktails. Also on the menu are hot and cold drinks and snacks. There are also a number of flat screen televisions showing big sports matches and news updates.
Perfect for gifts, souvenirs, or just a treat for yourself, the onboard boutiques offer a fine range of spirits, wine, tobacco, perfumes and cosmetics, leather goods, confectionery, toys, fashion, decoration, souvenirs, newspapers, games, cameras, sunglasses, jewellery and much more! All are at great prices, and certainly worth a browse.
'Wi-Fi time' can be purchased from the information desk. Barfleur features plenty of deck space so you can stretch your legs and enjoy a calm spot to relax, while enjoying the sea air and incredible views, particularly when entering or leaving the port. Sun decks are on decks 7, 8 and 9. There is also a bureau de Change and a baggage room where you can leave your luggage.
There is a play room where children can enjoy fun and games whle the video games room on deck 7 features the latest video games.
Barfleur is wheelchair friendly. Disabled toilets are located on deck 6, 7 and 8 and all decks are lift accessible.
Please Note: Whilst we have taken great care in making our Barfleur guide as accurate as possible, onboard facilities, services and entertainment may vary depending on the date and time of year that you travel, facilities mentioned may change without notification and ferry companies reserve the right to operate vessels other than those mentioned at time of booking without prior notification.

"Lovely crossing"
Really surprised at the facilities on board the Barfleur. There were childrens entertainers, colouring competitions a d balloon making on both crossings. Lots of choice of eating in the cafe or restaurant and the ship was clean with plenty of space
"Holiday travel"
The boat going out although a longer journey was far nicer than the quicker return leg. The ship was clean and very family friendly. The toilets could have been cleaner.
"Superb crossing "
Lovely ship, crossing on a millpond able to move away to quiet spot facilities were great
"Poole to Cherbourg"
Poole is a nice easy port to sail from, my trip was handled very professionally and was stress free
"Great way to travel"
We’ve just returned from a weekend in France, made easy by a great trip on The Barfleur from Poole to Cherbourg. The whole process from arriving early morning in Poole to happy friendly staff to arriving on Cherbourg and the same on the way back. The staff were all very helpfully and friendly and booking a seat in the club lounge was the right thing to do. Definitely recommend.
"Really nice trip to France"
Excelent in every way.
"Cherbourg to Poole"
Very good crossing
"Booking"
The trip start to finish was seamless. The only issue I had was when booking there was not an option to book a superior seat (as for the crossing going over to Cherbourg). This meant I had to amend my booking and got charged a further booking fee, so a seat costing £13 now cost £23!!!!)
"Day trip with grandchildren to Cherbourg"
Surprise on way back, no return booked for grandchildren!
"23 oct 2022"
Did what we wanted.
"DO NOT BOOK WITH DIRECT TRAVEL!"
Do not under any circumstances book with Direct Travel. We inadvertantly booked through them rather than direct with Brittany Ferries. Being careless we clicked on the incorrect link when doing our google search. Anyway, we need3ed to change the date of sail by one day as we mixed the days and dates up. We realised our error immediately after booking with Direct Ferries. We tried to change this through "manage my bookings" which would incur a £10 amendment fee. Fair enough we though, compared to the £30 amendment fee if we had to call their helpline. Incidentally there was no helpline number as according to the customer services representative at Brittany Ferries they had turned it off during the Covid epidemic and not switched it on again!! We were unable to amend the booking online successfully, and received an email from Robyn at Direct Ferries demanding £30. We replied saying this was not what their terms and conditions said. We received no reply. We then received another demand from Direct Ferries for £60 to simply change a date. We replied and asked for Robyn to return our call. She did and explained that Brittany Ferries had been asking for this amount! They obviously hadn'tr as there standard terms for a refund for an economy ticket (which this was) is a flat fee of £20. I asked to speak to Robyn's supervisor who said he had spoken to Brittany Ferries and were now demanding £65 to change the booking!!! I explained that we shoiuld only be paying £10 as per there terms and conditions to which he replied that was not in their terms and conditions!!!!! I then spoke to Tom at Brittany Ferries customer service who said this was the 5th complaint he had received regarding Direct Ferries that morning. He was unable to change our booking because it was made through Direct Ferries, and con confirmed that their policy was for £20 amendment fee in addition to any extra charges because of a different sailing date - the prices were the same. I spoke again to Brittany Ferries the day before we due to travel asking if they could help, and a really helpful lady called Rachael I think said that as we were due to travel so soon she could change our booking under exceptional circumstances. So to finish, the boat, journey and customer services with Brittany Ferries were all very good, definitely use them again and recommend. But please take my advise check with link you are booking through, Direct Travel don't offer anything cheaper, they are absolute rip off artists, who apparently pay Google fees to get themselves to the top of the search engine when you type in Poole to Cherbourg car ferries.
"A very positive experience"
We were pleased to travel on the Barfleur which is a clean, bright and well-organised ferry. Your staff kept to time and we arrived at our onward destination in France without delay. Staff on board were polite and courteous and helped us with a few minor queries. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We enjoyed delicious meals en route.
"Brilliant "
Poole itself is a great place. Port is smaller than others so less frenetic. Easy loading, staff really helpful and friendly. Boat left bang on time. Nice clean vessel, good sized duty free. Cafeteria clean, good varied menu. Breakfast was delicious, very fresh croissants etc, reasonably priced. Very comfy reclining chair and very clean. Shower in the loos. Day crossing so didn’t check out the cabins. Just a joyful restful crossing
"Good crossing "
Very pleasant crossing from Cherbourg to Poole
"Easy hassle free crossing"
Very good crossing. Beautiful views. Staff very friendly and food was very nice. Only minus for us is that we only seem to find 1 toilet and was very smelly. Also feel there could be an area where you could sit with your dog rather than leaving them in the car for such a long time
"As expected"
What you expect from a good company. On time, friendly staff, de ent food and reasonably priced
"Good Service "
Good service easy check in including for our dog
"Poole to Cherbourg"
Cleanliness let it down!
"Holiday to France"
Our holiday to France started and ended with a trip on Brittany Ferries From Poole the Cherbourg and vice versa on the return. This was our frost trip abroad in our newly converted van we were very nervous and also very excited. The ferry part of our trip was thoroughly enjoyable and formed a big part of our trip. From booking to the crossing, embarking, the actual crossing all was very smooth, friendly and professional. Thank you for playing an important part of our holiday
"Brittany Ferries"
Merry Ferries
"Staff wonderful "
Food was great staff very helpful lovely and clean as I said pleasant staff
"Poole Harbour faulty equipment "
Easy crossing until Poole Harbour couldn't deploy its ramp, which suggests poor maintenance. The ship on this crossing definitely needs some TLC, so maybe Brittany should be looking at devoting capital expenditure on its assets.
"Very happy"
I was very happy I could have this trip.
"Great crossing experience "
Outbound crossing was on time . Services onboard were excellent with very friendly and professional staff. The inbound crossing too was on time with excellent facilities and service.
"BARFLEUR"
Mostly, things were perfectly satisfactory. The staff, however, can be somewhat disrespectful to the passengers (who pay their wages!) and are often abrupt and will reply immediately in English to those speaking perfectly competently. They should remember that they are the ones doing low status jobs and the majority of their customers, by virtue of being able to afford to go on the ferry in the first place have worked hard, been successful and deserve a basic level of respect.o
"Ferry crossing Poole to Cherbourg"
Normal crossing, ahead of schedule and all safety procedures adhered to.
"Review of Direct Ferries (and NOT Brittany Ferries)"
I had to change both my outgoing and, at a later date, my return to UK bookings. I have rarely encountered such total incompetence (from Direct Ferries). For example: Direct Ferries eventually confirm a change from 19/9/22 to 18/9/22. On arrival at Cherbourg Brittany Ferries had not been notified (apparently this is not unusual, and frequently happens). A poor experience and not one to be repeated. If someone is reading this then book with Brittany Ferries direct as they are very helful and efficient.
"Why delay in discharge at Poole?"
I would like to know the cause of the delay. When the vessel was approaching the berth there did not appear to be any linesmen waiting for the lines. Was the cause of the delay in discharge absence of ,linesman etc, or Border Force asking for delay while Condor ferry discharged, or lack of Border Force personnel at the checkpoint?
"Cherbourgh crossing"
The crossing was very good and we will use this crossing again.
"All good"
Nothing bad to say
"Relaxing trip"
Booked a cabin which was very comfortable. The food was excellent French dishes, well worth a try. Very smooth sailing which is down to the low winds to be fair and the ship was punctual. One of the few ships I have been on that gives you room to get out of your car. Usually (on other ships) opening car doors can be quite tricky
"September 22 "
Fantastic journey only spoiled by a very slow passport check on departure.
"Good experience "
Had a lovely seamless sailing from Poole to Cherbourg
"Barfleur - could have been better ...."
We travelled mid september and whilst the outbound trip from Poole to Cherbourg was good, the return trip was very cold especially in the area with reclining seats. The queue for passport control leaving the port was unacceptably slow.
"Condor"
Condor
"No water fountains. Poor quality breakfasts and internet connexion additional - in 2022!"
It would be great if drinking water fountains were provided. All the video screens are unnecessary. The quality of the breakfasts is no where near as good as it used to be. Why oh why should passengers have to pay for Internet connexion when the cost of travel should cover it.
"Poole to Cherbourg and back"
?
"Great Trip"
Poole is a small and convenient harbour to sail from. Boarding was simple. The reclining chairs are pretty old and the complimentary wifi you get with that only works in the cafe areas.
"Fast and easy trip to Brittany "
The Poole ferry is a fast and easy route for people planning a visit to Brittany and Southern France in general.
"A Pleasurable and easy trip"
Staff at both Ports were very friendly. Staff on the Ferries themselves were equally as friendly. Could not fault any aspect of the Journeys - will definitely use Brittany Ferries again.
"Condor crossing from Cherbourg to Poole"
Excellent, efficient crossing.
"Poole from Cherbourg with Brittany Ferries"
First time we have sailed Cherbourg to Poole. Very relaxing on deck with warm evening sunshine and a calm sea. What's not to like?!
"Good journey"
Good journey both ways on the Barfleur. Slightly late getting into Poole. Staff friendly and very helpful.
"Very average"
Shambolic loading; don't bother arriving early in the hope you will embark and disembark first, as they have the most illogical and unusual loading routine (we have travelled on many cross channel ferries over 40 years). Resulted in late departures, late arrivals. So-so on board. There are many better ferries out there - unfortunately this is the only choice if you wish to head from Poole to France.
"very good trip"
The trip was very good!
"Great Ferry Crossing"
Brilliant start to our holiday. They staff here great and very friendly and polite, both at the port and on the ferry. We were checked in and board with no problems. Same on arrival and return. Our crossing was very smooth, we were able to enjoy time outside on the deck, where there were plenty of places to sit. Good range of food, we had breakfast and lunch (a little disappointing there was no ice cream left for the children's meal deal) Food was also very reasonable, price wise. We had a cabin which was useful, as we were travelling with two small children. It was nice the ferry had a little area for children to play in, however this was quite small and I was glad we had brought some toys with us. Overall a lovely experience and one I would do again.

"Book direct"
Can't fault the Barfleur. Great service, good food, helpful staff. Next time I'll book directly with Brittany Ferries though
"Very good"
We haven’t been on a ferry for nine years but the Brittany Ferries service from Poole to Cherbourg and return was pretty impressive. Staff were friendly and helpful and they must have filled the coffee machine in the Club lounge at least every hour. It was kept clean throughout. Food in the self service restaurant was pretty good too with a decent English breakfast on the outward leg and fish and chips on the return. A good choice of alternatives were available. The shop was well stocked with some decent offers on whisky in particular. We felt the toilets were small and there didn’t seem to be that many onboard but that is just our impression. Overall it was a very good experience and we would use them again.
"Brittany "
Trip to Brittany. Left early, arrived early. Ship had great outdoor seating options on the open top floor decks. Food was ok but nothing special. Everything was as expected.
"Top service"
Brittany ferries always deliver! Friendly staff, great boats, I choose Brittany Ferries over any other ferry company
"Don’t book through Direct ferries. Terrible customer service "
If you book with this company. Don’t expect to every be able to contact them directly. Everything is alternated or done by email that are significantly delayed. Some responses are even rude. Brittany Ferries are far easier to book with. They have agents you can call. The £10 amendment fees is not as advertised. Any ammentment would also have an additional charge from the ferritin operator so be sure that you won’t need to change anything if you book with this company. I would not recommend direct ferries as an agent but Brittany Ferries provided a good service
"Good service both ways"
Travelled from Poole to Cherbourg on the Barfleur, returning on the Liberation condor. Both provided a clean, efficient service with friendly staff. provided clean efficient services.
"Expensive "
Price has trebled since 2019
"nice trip"
good way to Bretagne
"Good but sort the Wi-fi."
Goo experience, facilities, dining and drinking. Only complaint is the wifi which was very poor. If the wifi were sorted would be a 10/10.
"Mis-sold"
I was horrified to learn that our return trip from Cherbourg to Poole included a stop in Guernsey with no warning!! My ticked did not mention it. When I realised this when on vacation there was no telephone number available where I could call to change my ticket. The
"France holiday"
Very good both ways. Small delay on route to France but apart from that all went fine, thank you.
"Air conditioning"
On our way from Poole to Cherbourg, we sailed with Condor. There was no cabin facilities and to be seated comfortably, we had to pay extra. We paid and sat in the lounge which was extremely cold. The air conditioning was too high. As a result, I got ill whilst driving to our holiday place.
"review"
there are no recycling bins on ferry which is poor especially as there are posters about brittany ferrys commitments to a green future. if there are some bins, they are few and far between and not well signed
"Nice trip"
Nice ferry with fairly decent food, mainly clean except a couple of toilets, nice seating in cafe and quiet area, doors in quiet area should have soft close so thry don’t wake people up every time someone walks in and out, kids play area needs soft floor and could be a bit bigger,
"Empfehlenswert"
Würde ich immer wieder buchen
"Perfect trip"
Great speedy boarding, gods value breakfast food, staff very helpful. We would definitely use Brittany Ferries again.
"Great if you live near Poole! "
Very convenient for us, thought the time it takes to queue to get out is frustrating- over and hour and we were not last off the boat. The ship is tired but the staff are great and food is good considering!
"Loved the sun deck!"
Seamless. Organised and straightforward. Good facilities, clean and tidy. Loved the slouchy chairs on top deck- sat up there for half the trip. Pity customs took so long in France. Still good.
"Easy trip"
We recently travelled to Loire valley for my brother birthday and caught a Brittany Ferry. The whole process was easy and no hassle at all. Check in simple, parking easy and the sailing went smoothly. Will defiantly do it again.
"Poole-Cherbourg 23.07.2022 "
A very pleasant journey. Staff very friendly, ship departed promptly at designated time and service was good on board.
"Travel experience "
The journey was very good, the staff were professional and helpful and overall it was a relaxing experience.
"Car embarking/disembarking"
We were almost the first to arrive for our outbound and inbound crossings and yet we were almost the last to leave the ship. Why are those who arrive as per your instruction 90 minutes before sailing penalised
"Relaxing crossing"
The crossing was very relaxing. The staff were efficient and friendy. Facilities were clean and a good choice of good and drink.
"Late and cold."
Our trip was late leaving from Cherbourg for some undisclosed reason. There were then apparently "technical difficulties" and we were late arriving at Poole. This seemed to mean that Condor docked ahead of us so that there was more delay. I think we were about one and a half hours late. Throughout this time the ship was cold and the food and drink seemed to fizzle out at an early stage. Loading and unloading take ages on Brittany Ferries. We are from the north of England and have travelled all our lives with P&O from Hull which is now difficult. We long for the old days of P &O and find Brittany Ferries a poor solution to the problem of reaching the continent.
"Could do better "
The Barfleur ferry has definitely seen better days, on our return trip the ferry had technical problems!! and we were over one hour late docking at Poole. It would have been nice if the company offered a free drink of some kind to make up for the inconvenience but there was no such offer and very little information as to why and what the technical difficulties were
"First trip"
Very comfortable trip to Cherbourg. Very clean and modern decks. Good food.
"Bike trip"
Expensive for a motorcycle
"Reclining seats"
We sailed from Cherbourg to Poole on the 21.45 ferry. As this ferry doesn't land until 7am the next morning, we booked reclining seats. Everything on board was clean and the staff were very friendly. However, the reclining seats were really uncomfortable and did not promote sleep. The arms of the seats are hard and the footrest is useless. Even though most of the seats were empty, our two seats were in different rows. I am not sure why this crossing takes 10 hours when all the other crossings take 4 and a half.
"Great"
Very clean ship. Professional and hard working staff.
"Poole to Cherbourg"
Excellent and on time
"it's a joke"
The trip was cancelled due to Corona Virus Pandemic and 8 weeks on I am still waiting for a refund.
"Ridiculous"
I don`t understand what all this is about. Received e-mails to say the ferry was cancelled so I came home via the tunnel. I expect when you sort yourselves out I will get a refund.
"Ferry trip: out on March 1st, return o March 3rd"
Everything went well, really nothing to complain about. The ferry ride was great, ferry people we interacted with were very helpful. My wife left her backpack in her seat when we were leaving and we were notified prior to leaving so that she could retrieve it.
"cherbourg to.poole"
the ferry was on time. efficient loading of vehicles onto the ship. good on board. food a bit expensive. docked on time. treated with respect by customs who examined our vehicle free parking overnight until we could continue with our journey the next day. a very good all round experience.
"Good service"
Good food at a reasonable price. Clean public areas and friendly staff
"Complaint at disgraceful booking process"
The online process was a disgrace. It delivered error messages, quoted random price increases, randomly changed the details of the vehicle, on recommending the booking process requoted lower prices and again randomly increased the price and conflicted with quotations we received from the telephone enquiries and finally created an incorrect booking. Following which, the assistant we spoke with over the phone graciously said they would waive the fee for correcting the booking the online system erroneously created. I feel that the system is programmed to create hidden price increases and incorrect bookings and fraudulently induce customers to book at prices it has no intention to honour. I am deeply unhappy with the service and propose to take this public.
"Problems but sorted."
Unfortunately our scheduled crossing from Poole to Cherbourg was cancelled due to high winds. However, we were contacted by Brittany Ferries direct and offered two alternatives both from Portsmouth to Caen. Neither were ideal because of our circumstances but we opted for one of them which meant spending over £300 in accommodation costs for Friday night. All credit to Brittany Ferries for contacting us and being pro-active in sorting out our sailing.
"Plain Sailing"
Very good service, alowing a vehicle change close to sailing time, and when weather caused the cancellation of the return leg, an alternative was arranged within a coupleof hours. Thank you
"U can not cancel"
Ur web site is rubbish
"Great service "
Had a really good trip, both ways
"A painless experience"
Four of us travelled by Brittany Ferries from Poole to Cherbourg earlier. We all found the trip to be painless and even a pleasant experience, helped in the main part by the friendly and approachable staff - and the calm seas! From our arrival to our driving off the ferry, there was minimal fuss and everything was clearly well organised and painless. The food purchased was reasonably priced and of good quality. English was widely spoken. We will travel with them gain I'm sure.
"Fri.12th,oct, booking"
There was a delay of 4 hours between Brittany Ferries & your communication of our crossing being postponed, we were touring & didn't have access to the Internet. A text (as was used by Brittany Ferries) or phone call would have been useful.after a less than helpful phone call to you with twice being put on hold, we were told we could sail from At Malo at 10.30am, the next day.at the port her communication from you showed that we had been booked in on the previous day, 12th, fortunately there was room. We, in future, will communicate directly with Brittany Ferries.
"Another smooth crossing"
Altogether a trouble-free crossing, albeit a few minutes late leaving/arriving. Wouldn't it be great if the Captain could tell us why. Instead we are all treated as self loading cargo with no brain.
"no show"
sailing cancelled
"Not my choice for future trips"
We had reserved seating & it was so incredibly uncomfortable. The seats are probably excellent if you're over 6 ft tall but, as an average height woman, I found the seat was digging in to the backs of my legs & making it impossible to get comfortable. Unfortunately the return trip was very rough so it wasn't even an option to get up & walk about, especially as I'm not the best sea traveller. If I'd taken a cushion with me I'd have been more comfortable lying on the floor.. The outward journey wasn't so bad as I spent some time in the self service cafeteria so didn't need to sit in my seat for as long. The homeward journey was not at a time when I needed to eat. It was also very annoying to be the FIRST to check in & then almost last off the ship!
"France"
Excellent crossing. Very clean and plenty of options to eat. both journeys went on time.
"Good end of holiday "
If you're holiday as to end this is a very good way to go. Good food, peaceful setting for reading a book then a quick and easy disembarking.
"Excellent voyage "
Travelling with friends on a biking trip, rooms were a bit small but managed to have a good nights sleep. Restaurant breakfast was lovely and well worth paying a little extra.
"Frustrating "
I booked a trip to cherbourg and return ticket only to be told 2 days later that I can not come back from Cherbourg as the boat was full not forgetting I've already paid then told I can get boat from caen oh and pay another £100. Pounds for the trip never again will I use this company
"Excellent staff on board, questionable management decision making"
The crossing itself was excellent and the staff were all very friendly and helpful, although no WiFi was very disappointing on a 4 hour crossing. I DO understand that a technical failure might prevent us getting WifI at short notice. I DO NOT understand that the text informing me of this seemed to suggest I could however pay for the premium rate WiFi. And I DO NOT understand why, if it was a technical issue, the fault was still there when we returned on the same vessel a week later. And I DO NOT understand that we received a free bottle of water for the inconvenience of no Wifi going out but received nothing on the way back. And I DO NOT understand that, having received this small compensation, we received no compensation at all for the 2 hour delay going out. I would have thought that merited much more compensation as many passengers had long drives ahead of them and the delay was very inconvenient.
"Warming"
Friendly staff and very enjoyable food. Its French afterall.
"all good but no internet"
all very good except no internet. only available option was to pay for it. a little annoying when you have 2 toddlers and you cant put them you tube for 5 min of tranquility. otherwise the food was good, facilities clean and personal very approachable.
"Barfleur"
Lovely crew, comfortable boat. It was a shame the free wifi was not working on either outward or return journey.
"very nice trip there and back"
food and general comfort and freedom to walk around on deck etc. was all good.
"Relaxed start"
Enjoyed the trip across to France- nice reclining seats.
"Food good"
Food is very reasonably priced and of course because it is a French vessel the quality is far superior to that on a British one
"Poole Cherbourg return"
Stayed over the night before I need Poole, paid the £10, well worth it, clean hot showers, cuppa tea from 06:00, great. Check in So simple, sailed on time, staff friendly and helpful. Return trip just as efficient, couldn't really fault it. One small point, we booked lounge seating, both trips someone was in our seats that looked sheepish when we went to sit in them, don't think that they paid, made me feel like I was the one in the wrong, maybe check occasionall? Apart from that, great service and trip, many thanks.
"Ferry fine but don't expect wifi"
One kinda assumes that if you have paid extra for lounge or reserved recliner or are a club member then the extra would include wifi so that you can do your work or whatever. Er, no. Brittany have a 4 tier price structure and the lowest tier (no charge) is not available ('broken') . So you ask, can those that have paid for a lounge have complimentary wifi? No says the purser, not at all, no way. I choose not to. Want wifi? pay more. Not important but shows a Ryanair approach to concealing extra charges. Otherwise fine. On time, quiet and does what you expect, gets you from one port to another.
"Dreadful b...s up by Brittany ferries"
We were on the very tired ship which was very crowded. We had the usual shambles at loading with no recognition of who' d been waiting longest and indeed those who were queuing longest seemed to be taken last! If we thought that was bad when we arrived in Poole more or less on time it took us forty minutes to actually get off the boat from that dreadful middle car deck where everyone else has to be cleared first, and when we finally cleared the boat we had to endure only three passport inspectors working through a busy boat. We finally got out on the road at 1150 - a delay of an hour and still with a three hour drive ahead of us. We won't be travelling B ferries again.
"Poole Pain"
A good crossing on a slightly tired ship, but nothing to complain.about. Cars hustled off ship into multiple lanes, some not moving at all, at which point port staff spectated the chaos. One hour from docking to exit the port, late on a Saturday evening, with us the only ship . Add that to your crossing time, and we would have chosen a different route.
"Was alright"
A nice way to travel. Relaxing but not a lot to do. Free WiFi was broken but the paid for WiFi was working which was convenient.
"Brittany "
Loading was very disorganised and we had a long wait to board even though we were there an hour before as requested. This didn’t apply to all as many late arrivals went straight on. By the time we boarded it was very difficult to find seats. Duty free shop is very small and not carrying a good selection. The crossing itself was fine.
"great ship"
A very busy journey back from France with school holidays over, but boarded punctually and efficiently. Plenty of space on deck and inside to sit even though it was very busy. One thing that would have made the journey go faster would have been a few plugs that we could use for devices- or maybe a film for the grown ups. The children's play area was great though. Food good quality although would be good to have the option of some fruit. Great that the kids meal came with the option of fruit juice. Staff all very efficient and friendly. Thanks!
"Brittany Ferries"
Perfect way to start and end your visit to France; catering was excellent & very friendly staff onboard
"Breakfast offering is woeful"
Recent trip on the Normandy Express was a reasonable trip on time etc. The breakfast offerings were however woeful... mash potato on a breakfast plate? The quality was certainly not t9 the standards we have come to expect from other Brittany routes/ferries and day and night difference to our return journey cherbourg to poole. Not great Brittany if people are travelling before 8am at least try to give them some decent breakfast foods, often they have travelled a distance to get to the port, and having a captive audience is not an excuse for such poor standards at inflated prices. The ferries are by no means cheap please don't take the proverbial once on board.
"Summer 2018"
Generally very efficient, staff friendly and helpful, good fruit tartelettes!! Real benefit is the 4 hr crossing - only problem was beyond Brittany Ferries’ control as it took nearly 3/4 hr to get through customs after docking, so very late leaving Poole on homeward bound trip
"Brittany ferries from Poole to Cherbourg "
Ferry was clean, left on time and arrived on time. Staff really friendly faultkess
"Travel to Cherbourg"
Ferry was clean. Staff really helpful. I suffer from motion sickness so cant let you know about food etc but my spouse enjoyed it. Pity it cant be done in first in line first on ferry.
"A Nice Day Out!"
Well organised as always when boarding. Friendly staff. Nice and clean in all areas including the toilets. The only grumble I have is why, when people are travelling together are their reserved reclining chairs not together. One of our three seats was on one side nearest to the window and the other two further back in the middle? Most people want to sit together especially if you have children. That is the only thing out of an entire day that was otherwise perfect.
"Poole Cherbourg "
The best ferry service I've been on in years; clean, friendly and comfortable
"Very good"
Check-in : good // boarding : ok // We had a 4 bed cabin with WC and shower : good, clean // staff on board : good // ship left and arrive on time //
"Not the best boat we've used."
Food was good but toilets smelly and cramped.
"Ferry crossing from Cherbourg to Dorset"
No complaints except don't quite understand how a short ferry crossing with no cabin was virtually the same price as 15 hour crossing from Hull to Rotterdam with a cabin.
"Enjoyable journey "
Very efficient staff, plenty of choice for food and lots of seating.
"Very pleasant experience "
I was surprised that I enjoyed the trip, very polite and helpful staff and having a reserved reclining seat made all the difference.
"Poole Cherbourg - Cherbourg Poole"
Having used the Dover Calais root for years I found the Poole -Cherbourg route far more relaxing experience.

Brittany ferries went above and beyond, what a absolute fantastic service we received. We were stuck in traffic, due to a accident, they rang us twice to see where we were, with 5 minutes to spare, they still got us on board, can not praise the Poole staff enough, thank you so much.
"Cherbourg to Poole by Brittany Ferries"
Brittany Ferries always a good choice and once again we were not disappointed. Good snacks/food and friendly staff.
"A good voyage"
The staff onboard the vessel were very friendly and helpful, the club lounge was very comfortable and quite. I wish they had a restaurant on board in addition to the self service restaurant.
"Very enjojoyable"
Good safe travelling both ways. Easy to reach. Very very pleasant staff. Security was very evident going in and out which was reassuring. Will be back
"Wonderful trips! "
We have just returned from a trip to France and the ferry journeys were both excellent. Great welcome, helpful staff, comfortable cabins, all we had hoped for and more!
"Awesome"
EH (age 7) - I think you need to get some more films for the children's room. The loos are a bit small and a bit smelly because they are old. Excellent value journey though.
"Travelling to Cherbourg"
We picked this ferry as we were going to Brittany for a holiday & this was the most convenient route. Downsides: Book early!!! I looked at prices last September for the same crossing this week but couldn't commit to the week at the time & the price was £110 cheaper!!!! Don't look for any serious bargains in the Duty Free shop, nothing was greatly reduced or on offer (usually I find several choices but not this time) . Loading took time & appeared to be random although I'm sure it wasn't. Upsides: the staff were very pleasant, the food wasn't bad or extremely expensive. The crossing was very smooth & on time.
"Lovely ferry trip"
We travelled Poole- Cherbourg return and had lovely smooth crossings. The staff were all friendly and efficient, and there was plenty of comfortable seating. Only negative was the toilets - they’re absolutly disgusting, especially the ones opposite the info desk. Crusted dirt around the door and bins and in the cubicle, and the stink of urine is overwhelming in the corridor before you even open the toilet door.
"Great trip was so less stressful from flying!"
We paid extra for lounge and was well worth it! Comfy reclining seats great coffee and iced water and quite no kids! No noise could have a nap and read in peace. We were lucky to have both ways very smooth crossing Great experience I'm not great with airports and this was so less stressful
"Direct ferries"
The Brittany ferry part of the crossing was very good, however making alterations to the booking was not If you book direct with Brittany they will not charge you Direct ferries charged me to add a cycle to the booking and to amend the date Wish I had booked with Brittany
"Fine on the boat, but getting on & off......."
Didn't wait long in Poole in the numbered lanes before we (my can & 1-2 dozen others) were told to go, only to be directed to a loop road just in front, where we waited 1/2hr before we were allowed to board! In the meantime people who had arrived well after us were allowed to go straight on!! What's that about!!?? On the return trip, just prior to getting off the boat, I noticed that the front 2 cars in the 3 columns had chocks under the wheels, a lady crewman dutifully removed the ones from the front row & left car, (but not mine, or the car to the right), she then left & a male crew member took over, he directed me to drive over the chock (which I thought was odd at the time!) which I did but it then dug into my cars plastic sill cover & damaged it!! He walked off to the rear, so when I pulled forwards I spoke to another crew member there, & complained about what the other guy had just done, he said sometimes they have to do that as the chocks get jammed in (from car movement, I understand this). But that's rubbish as all you have to do is get the car to back up just a tiny bit & then they can pull them out! In future I shall refuse to drive of the chock, back up a teeny amount & then they can pull the chock out or do it myself! I'm a mechanic, so when I get the car on the ramp on Monday I shall be checking the damage properly (I've already briefly looked & I can see 2 clips have been torn off & the sill panel is now loose!). If theirs any damage beyond the 2 missing clips I shall be sending you the repair bill!! So boarding at Poole was slow, & leaving the boat a male crew member didn't do his job properly & damaged my car! Incidentally, my car is not that low, it's a standard BMW 330d e46, so god knows what kind of damage he's doing to other cars which are lower! The boat was nice enough, aside from missing an exchange bureau, which I thought was odd.
"Homeward Bound"
It couldn’t have been an easier trip if it weren’t for delays in boarding.
"Day trip"
Very pleasant day to Cherbourg staff friendly boat clean and tidy and on time coffee tasty only downside ran out of cheese and ham rolls
"Poole to Cherbourg "
Excellent crossing and very clean modern ferry. Very friendly and helpful crew. The food on offer was first rate in quality, price and quantity - faultless
"Trip to France for wedding plans"
Ship on outbound journey clean and presentable ..however the Wi Fi was poor despite numerous attempts in various areas on board Return trip again ship was clean and presented to a good standard..again Wi Fi poor..Booked reclining seat ..very sub standard as the seats did not fully recline Very poor night as couldn't rest and persons slept on floor in front of our reserved seats!!
"Trip on Barfleur"
The Ship was good, Very Punctual, The staff very friendly and their was a shop and a little play area for the kids not amazing but good enough, The bar Area was nice and the ship was okay. When you go upstairs into the area where the Cabins are the smell inst very nice sometimes (Toilet smell) which would come and go. We had a cabin first Inside view, The Cabins are okay just the en suite Toilets Seemed a little Dirty and they smell very bad. On The way back we had the Cabin with an Outside view which has a large window which allowed you to see outside the ship which made the room feel a little larger. The Toilet Smell Still the same and when i had woken from the sleep this time i had (and still currently have) 3 HUGE bite marks on my back, 5 or 6 bite marks on my hands and 3 bite marks on my partners hands also. Im not too sure what chemical they used to clean the sheets with but we where both VERY ITCHY all over when we had woken and left the cabin and the whole drive back home. I am pretty sure this was Cabin No 8307 but i will check my tickets when i get home to confirm the room number. Next time i will be booking the Premium Lounge and hopefully this will be as clean as the Premium Lounge on the Ferry from Dover to Calais or Dunkirk which is VERY Clean and Very Nice.
"Very smooth sailing "
I am disabled and the staff made sure my trip was comfortable and easy for me to gain access. I enjoyed my trip aboard the barfleur and the customer care is fantastic,I shall be using Brittany ferries again soon and hope to sail to Spain next time
"Booking"
Booking was very straightforward .No problems . Service at ports excellent.
"lovely trip"
lovely little trip just the right length of time everything you need for the journey i found the bar the nicest place to be
"Brittany ferry trip"
The crossing was ok but the boat was really cold. The tea was not very hot and was the same on the return sailing. The toilets were not clean and smelt. I have been on this boat before and it was a good experience...
"Ferry to France"
The Ferry left on time, reasonable choice of food in the restraunt but the spaghetti Bolognese wasn't very nice. Duty free expensive, cigarettes and perfume were cheaper in France. Not much choice in the duty free shop and worst of all the ferry doors would not open on arrival back in England causing us to wait a further 20 - 30 minutes before we could depart. The staff did keep us informed of the problem.
"Travelling with Brittany Ferries"
Fast, efficient and courteous.
"Short break"
Generally good. Expensive though compared to years ago and when there was competition. Cabin on way out fine ,on return smelled of stale urine! No choice anyway as only one at this time of year on this route
"Room for improvement."
While boarding and disembarking went smoothly, and all the staff I encountered were friendly enough, there were some negative elements as well; for instance, the Wifi existed, but that's about all that can be said for it, I found it to be unreliable to the point of being unusable. The available seating was disappointing - in stead of having a handful of big armchairs around a wide coffee table, there should really be sofas. This would allow more people to sit much more comfortably and would be far better use of space. The armchairs were in fours, but were occupied by two people each, as the orientation of them meant they were suitable for groups of four (I didn't see a single group of four on board), but not two pairs. Ship was clean enough. Toilets were pretty clean. Shame you can't simply sit in your car or even access your vehicle while on board. Didn't try the food or shopping but I don't recall seeing any recognisable brands, e.g. Lyon, Burger King, Costa, Starbucks, which might have tempted me more. Ship was punctual but the journey is fairly long at about 4 hours even on the shortest route from Cherbourg. Compared to the Eurotunnel from Folkstone which takes just 45 minutes, this feels like a long time (it is also more expensive).
"Smooth crossing"
Smooth easy journey but very slow on loading at Cherbourg. Good clean facilities onboard.
"Another great trip"
Barfleur was clean and ship shape. Staff efficient and friendly as always. Good facilities on board. All clean and tidy. Another great voyage with Brittany Ferries. From check in to rolling off the other side - all good. The food is good, bars all good. I’d recommend Brittany Ferries - they do a cracking job and always my first choice.
"Very good"
Smooth, fast, comfortable and good value. The overnight ferry out to St Malo and the quick crossing back from Cherbourg suited my journey perfectly, allowing me to get some rest before and after the day-long drive to/from the Pyrenees. Highly recommended.
"Excellent"
Everything was great
"A very relaxed journey."
Very helpful customer service centre, very relaxed journey and the staff were very helpful and cheerful.
"Brilliant"
First time in ferry. Was brilliant. Excellent ease on and off. Staff lovely. Food was fantastic.
"Cherbourg to Poole"
A convenient, comfortable and swift way to cross the Channel to the U.K.
"Ferry was cancelled"
Our original ferry was cancelled so we travelled from Portsmouth to Caen. Rather inconvenient as we were in a motor home and parking was very difficult in Portsmouth. There is designated parking for overnight stop in Poole which is why we chose this route. There had been some recent bad weather but it was fine when we sailed so not sure why the other route was unavailable.
"Overnight Ferry"
The overnight ferry from Cherbourg to Poole is an experience I never want again. Reclining seats at an angle that makes it impossible to sleep, they need to recline more with a higher leg rest, I ended up sleeping on the floor. The room had an exit light brighter than a lighthouse! Cabins starting at £69, I’d rather they’d let me sleep in my car. The ship at night for those who can’t sleep is boring, maybe a film on the TV’s could help? Staff were professional and courteous, although the servery staff could smile more and one member of staff didn’t wash there hands in the toilets. I’ll travel again but only by day.
"Miss informed of time for leaving!!!"
Very disappointed with the service from direct ferries. We were not well informed to arrive super early! Therefore, first time in my life I ever missed a ferry or airplane in my entire life. Which caused us to have to stay a night in a hotel, pay for two taxi rides to and from the hotel, and pay a fee for reschedule of the ferry. Highly disappointing. As we are world travelers from the US. Never had this experience before. The ferrie left 10 minutes earlier than planned due to weather which caused us an expense!
"Excellent trip on time."
Good crossing staff very helpful down side the disembarking took ages but i realise that customs procedure is not Brittany ferries responsibility.
"Sea sickness"
My boy became very sea sick recently on the ferry. I asked the receptionist for a nurse or doctor but there was none on board, however somebody of seniority did assist and provided a cabin to which my boy got to relax and clean up. Excellent service from all whom we had contact with.
"cherburg disappointment"
HI. I BOOKED ON THE INTERNET BUT OBVIOUSLY CLICKED ON THE WRONG LENGH DONT KNOW HOW. CAUSE LAST 5 TRIPS GOT IT RIGHT. HAD TO PAY 88.00 AT CHERBURG BEFORE THEY WOULD KET US ON SHIP. THE WOMAN AT THE KIOSK WAS COCKY AND RUDE. COULD NOT SAY ANYTHING AS COULDNT GET A WORD IN !!!!!
"Excellent crossing"
This is the first time we have travelled on this route, usually opting for the Dover-Calais crossing. However, this will be our preferred route in the future because we were so pleased with everything. We booked into the club lounge for that extra comfort, and we weren't disappointed. There wasn't as much available in the club lounge as P&O in terms of refreshments (we were given a glass of champagne on arrival and there was a menu you could order from with P&O) but the lounge on Barfleur was smaller and had more comfortable seating which was great for a longer crossing. We did eat in the self service restaurant and the food was good and plentiful. The only thing we really missed was somewhere to buy Euros as we left all ours at home by mistake and then had none when we arrived in France! The small touch of giving you a card with your car deck on was really helpful because I always forget. Overall, we were really happy with our experience on Barfleur and as Poole is closer to our home, this will be our crossing of choice from now on.
"Complaint"
Little annoyed. I had to pay extra as I had a slightly higher vehicle than normal but on the return journey I was put on the same level as the cars. I feel I was ripped off and forced to pay extra for no reason
"Great Service"
I hqd mqde qn error in my booking but the guy who checked me in could not have been more helpful or more friendly :)
" Cherbourg and Poole with Brittany Ferries "
More relaxing than flying and less walking and hassle.
"Smart ship"
We enjoyed our crossing, and found the ship very comfortable. Would have liked more information beforehand on taking our dog and there was no announcement mid crossing telling us we could visit our dog in the car. Internet access on ship was very useful, but charging points few and far between
"Cherbourg to Poole "
We were not impressed with the loading of the vessel. It was not made clear at first where to que and the first control was very very slow. Once we were on board all was well.
"Good service"
Good service, can't fault it. On time as always and plenty off food/drink outlets so no long queues.
"Book with brittany ferries"
Don't go through direct ferries, they couldn't confirm booking despite taking payment and then tried charging additional premium saying that price had since increased. Would not use this intermediary service again
"France trip"
Good smooth trip, the only bug to bare that I had was, I booked my tickets quite a while before my trip date, in between these dates I changed my vehicle, I changed the details etc on line, I printed updated tickets, and Direct ferries charged me £100 for doing this, I not only find this unbelievable, I also find it disgusting and unfair, so as I said good trip, but just be warned, if you change your vehicle
"Poole to Cherbourg "
We travelled with two under fives and they loved the surprise bag with the kids meals. Once we realised the kids could choose the films in the kid area, that entertained them the whole way. We thought the food was good value and good range even for vegetarians, but check the bar and cafe as both do food. The bathrooms were clean and the staff friendly. We didn't get a cabin which was fine as there were plenty of seats for everyone. We would choose this route again as it reduced our car travel and the ferry was totally acceptable.
"Poole to Cherbourg return journey"
This was the 1st time I had ever been on a Direct Ferry. The crossing was smooth and uneventful. There was the added bonus of some sort of military training exercise that was pretty exciting to watch. Basically, commandos boarding the ship via rib boats, than ascending a ladder to gain access to 7th level of ship, then, via rib boat, getting off the ship by what seemed a very flimsy ladder back on to the rib boats. Helped to make the crossing seem much quicker. Would happily take the ferry to France again.
"Good but noisy"
The staff at Brittany Ferries were all good, and efficient, on both crossings. There are one or two downsides. Firstly The Barfleur has, since our last trip, converted the shop to a slot machine games area, as we were sitting in the cafe area it was extremely noisy. Unfortunately the parents seemed to have no control over the noise level of their young children. Some were allowed to scream at the top of there little voices with no sign of parents even trying to stop them. It was much quieter in that area when there was a shop there.
"Excellent trip, easy and friendly "
We had a really smooth sailing, kids and dog all happy. The staff kindly let us visit our dog half way through the sailing to check on water etc. Shame there was nowhere to charge phones but we had wifi (not strong) so the kids were happy. There was rugby on Tv on the way home for the adults, cartoons on another Tv for the kids:-) excellent! Cafe and restaurant onboard but not many options for gluten/dairy free families. Not to worry. We are used to bringing our own. Very happy with the timings of the ferry and how everything was handled. Friendly staff.
"Starting my holiday on board."
Easy to find in Poole. Check in and drive on straightforward. The ship was pleasant. Haven't been for a while so it was slightly disturbing to be confronted by armed police on board. Took ages to get a coffee but the rest of the journey was great. We sat outside in the sun. The sea was really calm. I have been with Brittany ferries many years ago and the service is always good.
"Crossing Cherbourg to Poole "
Very efficient staff during boarding. Despite a large number of travellers waiting for food and drinks was short. We left and arrived exactly on time.
"Crossing to France"
We all know the score. Queue up in lines on the quay, drive in queue up on the stairs, Find somewhere acceptable on the boat. There is an electricity outlet next to the entrance to the restaurant for charging your device. Try to ignore the large screen advertising perfume with too much sexuality. Buy Coffee, the french cakes are good. Wait for the other side, queue down, queue out. Thank the almighty that Brexit has not been inflicted upon us yet!
"Homeward bound"
Tired ship with few comfortable seats, restuarant staff under pressure, resulting in poor service, not something that is common on Brittany Ferries
"First Brittany ferry trip"
Staff pleasant and helpful. Ferry kept to time. All areas used were clean.
"À bon voyage!"
We had a calm crossing from Cherbourg. We all appreciated the tasty food at a reasonable price. (better than our Diver -Calais crossing!). All staff were very friendly and helpful. Possibly needs more toilets. The down stairs seating area although with reclining seats, felt old fashioned and a bit antisocial -(seats all facing forward like a cinema), a bit claustrophobic for me, much better out on deck!
"very comfortable crossing"
We booked reclining seats but on both journeys our seats were taken, luckily there were enough other seats free to sit elsewhere in the same area but as we had paid extra for seats i would have expected some policing or checking that passengers had actually booked and were in the correct seats. Unfortunately this made us think that next time we wouldn't book seats but would just take pot luck (as presumably those other passengers had done). Nevertheless the journey was great, The ship (The Barfleur) was clean and well maintained. We only ate on the return journey (evening meal) and I have to say the food was delicious, a good selection and not too expensive considering the captive audience. very organised getting on and off the ferry, although the queuing at both ends was a pain. We would make a similar journey again (Poole to Cherbourg, in August).
"Great day trip"
Decided to do day trip to Cherbourg booked a week in advance £24 per person a good price. 4hours ferry, 4hour Cherbourg, 4 hour ferry. Excellent ferry was clean tidy and food very good and not expensive . On arrival in Cherbourg free bus to town hyper market 5minute walk ,had a free map from on board ferry which showed hyper market and the shops very useful. Had plenty of time to do everything we wanted before getting free bus back to the port a great day out .
"A great way to travel"
Hadn't been on a cross-channel ferry since I was a kid so it was a really pleasant surprise to discover the Barfleur, so different from ferries of the old days. It's relatively small but feels really spacious. Huge deck for sitting with chairs you can move around, felt like cruising! Very good food, excellent bar, charming French serving staff. Shop sells attractive gifts for people you are visiting including toys and nicely packaged biscuits, and you can ask for a tasting of liquors. Downstairs are lounges with reclining seats and windows. Our return trip was marred by a rude and noisy family in the 'private' lounge. In fact it is not worth paying for a seat in the private lounge as the public lounge is identical and even in August not by any means full. But perhaps the Barfleur should make it clearer these lounges are set aside for resting and there are other areas more suitable for children and electronic games. That said, most people would have realised this and been more considerate of others. Their response to a polite request to pipe down was 'We've paid for this lounge'. It meant no one else could use it.
"Brittany ferrys"
Ex crossing and services first time I have been from Poole it was awful no signposts roads closed arrived late took forever to get on our way up north Will only use again as last resort Brittany ferries though ex
"Smooth ineed it was"
Great facilities and efficient staff. Tad expensive compared with Chunnel route however.
"Comfortable crossing"
We booked the lounge and it was very comfortable. Our dog travelled with us and we were escorted down to see him half way through journey. Great breakfast.
"Unorganised disembarkation "
Disembarkation was very slow. The announcement to go to the cars was after the ferry had docked and people started to drift down to the decks without instruction. This happened on bit trips. Particularly annoying as we had a dog in the car.
"Ferry"
Comfortable, easy journey each way
"Ferry trip"
Trip was OK all on time. Loading car and trailer went smoothly. A bit annoying that you have to pay extra for a comfortable seating, more seating around the ship other than in the cafe or restaurant would be good
"Excellent service "
Clean ship, efficient loading and unloading, smooth crossing and polite helpful staff.
"Very nice trip"
Helped by very calm weather conditions, we had a very smooth trip, we had bought the super comfortable Commodores seats which give you a place to snooze if you require! Wish we had got the restaurant before the prawns ran out! Would go again tomorrow. Highly recommended
"First time aboard"
Usually using Dover or the Tunnel as first timers we did not know what to expect and were pleasantly surprised. Poole is a lovely place to visit before the trip so don't rush in and on board unless necessary. Low pressure check in and loading and indeed off loading in Cherbourg. Not as slick as Dover based ferries but so what. Ensure you measure your car height correctly as the roof space is very tight. We booked reclining seats in advance but didn't really need them as there were very many spare unreserved seats available. Maybe wise in busy periods to book them. Decent choice of cafeteria style food at a good price. All was on time. Next time we will also stay and visit Cherbourg. We returned from the North of France by the Tunnel but would consider returning by this ferry service if price remains competitive to the time and cost of driving the extra 3 hours North.
"pleasant stay"
It is a beatiful ship and we enjoyd it very much
"Ferry"
A most efficient and friendly service, from checking in to parking up and being welcomed on board by a lady issuing cards to ensure we didn't lose our way when returning to our cars. We were tired and hungry so the very streamlined and affordable cafe/restaurant was most welcome, as were our comfortable reclining seats when it was time to get some sleep. An altogether pleasant way of crossing the Channel.
"Lovely rip"
So pleased with the ferry trip. It was effortless and all the staff were wonderful. We sat near the breakfast cafe and the food was beyond expectations and the two girls there were very cheerful and efficient and we will certainly use it again.
"Damm the cat!"
Long story short! Bird nest outside back door! Didn't dare leave cat outside! I opened back door to leave for ferry, cat shot out, couldn't catch her and missed ferry by five minutes! My. 65th birthday present to me! Very kind lady at Brittany gave me a voucher for another trip at a reduced rate.☹️☹️☹️
"ENJOYABLE CROSSING"
ENJOYED BARFLEUR, VERY PLEASANT AREAS ON BOARD, GOOD FOOD AT REASONABLE PRICES, ALONG WITH, FRIENDLY, ATTENTIVE, STAFF, MADE OUR CROSSING VERY ENJOYABLE. I, WOULD DEFINITELY,USE, THIS, SERVICE AGAIN.
"Easy crossing"
This was our first trip on Barfleur with our Campervan. It couldn't have been easier! Boarding and exiting the ferry seemed well organised; and we liked the idea of having cards to remind you which deck/exit you have parked your vehicle! All staff were friendly and helpful and have a good English vocabulary (much more than our French). We had a meal on our return trip which was very enjoyable although my chicken and chips could have been a bit hotter. There were plenty of places to sit and eat or sit and relax comfortably. Dining tables were cleared promptly and the whole ship was kept clean. If I'm being really picky then I would say that the tv in the Drivers' Lounge was rather loud - but in all fairness, we did't need to sit next to that area. The ladies toilet off the information area had run out of toilet paper, however the lady who used it just before me mentioned it to a member of staff and on my way out someone came with a new toilet roll in hand, ready to replace. All in all an excellent experience. We would certainly recommend this ship and this crossing.
"Poole to Cherbourg"
Super slick check-in and boarding for motorhome + 2 adults - very impressed and departed/arrived on time. Staff were smart, friendly and helpful. Only slight downer was the coffee coming out of a 'press button' machine; didn't have any food. All in all 4.8 stars, would use again and recommend to all.
"Great crossing between Poole andCherbourg"
This was a very pleasant journey both going and returning three weeks later. Our disabled cabin was spacious and well equipped with plenty of room to move around.the wetroom was great and we slept well.early start of six o'clock was a bit difficult but we made it.thank you
"Smooth sailing"
Everything about my recent ferry trip to and from Poole to Cherbourg was great: from the limited waiting time to board; the standard of the food in the self-service restaurant; the comfort of the seats in the reserved lounge; the promptness of the voyage, and of course the bonhomie we share with our near neighbours - the French.
"On time and great crossing"
The crossing from Poole to Cherbourg and the return trip a few days later on the Barfleur was very pleasant and a good route to take to France. We left early on both routes and arrived on time at both destinations. The loading was smooth and the crew were very helpful. The food in the restaurant - breakfast on the rote to France and dinner coming back to Poole were both tasty and reasonably priced.
"My experience with Brittany Ferries "
I found the way were handled prior to boarding, to be hassle free. Once on board the crew were helpful and friendly. We enjoyed meals on both outward and return sailings to be good valve for money. Overall cleanliness of the ship and its toilets were excellent. We will certainly recommend Brittany Ferries to our family and friends, and we will be back.
"A pleasant channel crossing"
A very pleasant and not too long a crossing with plenty of time to eat, shop and rest. The restaurant and bar were very comfortable and the staff were helpful and knowledgeable about eating disorders.
"A very good weekend."
My wife and I enjoyed a very good weekend in Cherbourg. The ferry was easily boarded and the trip was good. I was a little disappointed, as foot passengers, to find that a cabin cost us £31 even though we did not ask for one until 30 minutes into the voyage. No reductions as apparently they would be happy to travel with empty cabins rather than offer a discount. We enjoyed a very nice Full English breakfast and were treated well. It helps that Cherbourg is a nice town and the weather was perfect.
"Great experience "
As a family with 2 young children, we found our trip to be a very relaxing experience. All staff were professional and friendly. We wI'll be using this service again!! 😊😊

"Barfleur Review"
My husband and I travelled on the Barfleur from Poole to Cherbourg and back between March 25 and April 1, 2017. Sailing was calm and we enjoyed the facilities the Barfleur had to offer. The only exception was that on both trips we wanted light meals and on both occasions, the Café was not open. My husband is gluten and lactose intolerant and we found there were no options available to him in the self-service restaurant. By contrast, we recently travelled to Belfast on Stenna Line's 'Lagan' ferry and my husband was able to have freshly made sandwiches on gluten-free bread, made by the chef. Brittany Ferries needs to address this issue in order to accommodate the growing number of passengers who are Coeliac or suffer from food allergies. Thank you.
"A ferry trip that I actually enjoyed!"
Of course, it helped that we had good weather for our crossings in February, but I can honestly say that this was the first ferry trip that I have thoroughly enjoyed. I am usually a non-ferry person, preferring the tunnel for its speed , ease of use and lack of motion. However, partly due to cost differences and a sense of adventure, I reluctantly agreed to go to France by ferry on this occasion. It was easy; the facilities were great; we had good food; it was full, but it didn't feel crowded and I was able to spend two uninterrupted hours on my school timetable.
"Smooth as silk"
The ferry from Poole to Cherbourg is around a 4 and a half hour journey. The ship is smaller that the Brittany Ferries boat to St Malo from Portsmouth and the facilities, particularly the dining, are more limited, but it's a nice boat nevertheless and very comfortable, with modern facilities and nice decor. We had a cabin both ways which means we could actually lie down and get some proper rest before/after the long drive to Paris. I have recently been very unwell and this was very important to me. The crossing both ways war mercifully smooth, especially the return trip when the Channel was flat calm with no wind. There is no doubt that this would be a different review if the weather had been bad. The whole ferry experience is dependant on the weather and I do not know what it would be like with the outside decks awash with vomit and people desperately clinging on to the handrails as they go up and down the stairs. Nor do I want to know. The advertising material always shows very calm conditions, what sailors call "signing on weather", and there are never pictures of the ferry rolling like a pig in mid-channel with 20 ft waves breaking over the bow. In any event, i prefer the ferry to the train, despite my susceptibility to seasickness. Brittany ferries have the whole experience nailed down to an efficient operation and I can recommend them.
"Crossing was fine but AWFUL booking experience!"
Crossing was fine but AWFUL Direct Ferries booking experience with unsympathetic, couldn't care less attitude staff!
"Private journey"
First time I took this tour. Normally travel Calais-Dover. All went as expected and great for what I needed. Again anytime
"Nice trip to Cherbourg"
The lounge was very comfy and there are loads of options and things to do on the boat.
"Poole - Cherbourg"
I use Brittany Ferries regularly. No problems. I am disabled and staff are always very helpful. Vessels clean and comfortable. Food OK too. Nice breakfast on this trip.
"Poole to Cherbourg with Brittany Ferries and 3 dogs"
It was generally a well organised trip both ways. We chose this route so that we would be separated from our dogs for the shortest time possible. They were not allowed out of the car but we were given access to them half way across, about 2 hours, and allowed to get them out for a short walk. Only complaint is that there were little provisions for vegan / vegeterians.
"Bad Coffee"
was a cool easy trip , comfortable boat trip , very happy with one exception . the coffee in the cafe/restaurant , i haven't had a cup of coffee that bad since the 1980's . would highly recommend an upgrade maybe have a coffee stall , even a starbucks would be cool ..
"Trip to the Sun"
End of October, a misty morning with the promise of clearing skies. We were loaded promptly at Poole and then , as is our wont, we made our way to the food areas for a hearty late breakfast. Excellent. A wander around then we made our way to the reserved seating. What a pleasure. We both dozed off in the fully reclining seats with foot-stools. Also a really quiet zone. Just time for the Duty Free and we then emerged into the promised sunshine for our run down France.
"Barfleur."
I have taken this ferry twice this year with my motorcycle. I have been impressed with the way the staff look after my bike in making it safe to travel. The on board facilities are excellent, the staff everywhere are very polite, friendly and helpful. I have come to spend most of my time aboard around the restaurant as the food is good and not bad value for money. This is a fast and efficient crossing and I highly recommend it...especially on a bike!!!
"very satisfying and comfortable journey"
We often use the ferry crossing between Calais or Dunkerque but on this occasion our trip from the UK required that we return from Poole to France via Cherbourg. We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the boat and the facilities. The full english breakfast was a nice idea especially as this was an early morning crossing. We also ate a salad at lunch time which was very tasty and neither the breakfast nor the lunch were overly expensive. We were able to relax in one of the lounges for the duration of the voyage and all spaces appeared to be very clean. We even had a hostess coming around the boat giving us a bag with trip ideas and information about the boat. The only negative I can mention was the price of the crossing compared to the Dunkerque fare which was more than double but I suppose that's related to the length of the crossing time. If Britanny ferries did some promotional crossings I'm sure I would be willing to take this crossing more frequently.
"Great value"
We travelled from Poole to Cherbourg with our motor home, staying on the Port overnight. The boarding was easy and well managed and it was reassuring to see the security checks being carried out. Food on board was good and a reasonable price. The return from To Scott to Plymouth was equally as good with the French police thoroughly checking all vehicles. The crossing was really comfortable and again the food was good. Direct Ferries made the booking easy and were cheaper than booking direct with Brittany ferries.
"Good way of getting into France"
We travelled out to France early in the morning, on time. English breakfast was ok. There is a small kids corner with a few activities and TV for children. The unloading took quite long when you're used to the speed they unload in Calais. On the way back we took an evening ferry and had a cabin (very reasonably priced) - very clean & comfortable! The dinner meals were very tasty, if quite pricey. Again, ferry was on time, and unloading seemed a bit quicker. Good service all in all.
"Poole to Cherbourg via Barfleur"
We have travelled on the Barfleur ever since she came into service quite a few years ago and then had a distinctive French bright decor. She has since been fitted out very comfortably and tastefully. We have crossed in all seasons and even in gales is then quite stable. We have also travelled on other ships of the fleet, some much larger, but always prefer the Barfleur.
"FANTASTIC!"
Such an easy way to take a little trip to france. Thoroughly enjoyable. Only issue was a very niosy child in the private lounge where we had booked a seat. The child was removed by a grandparent in the end, as people were leaving due to the disturbance. I'd suggest an adult only zone in there to be honest!! Other than that it was great!!!
"Travel on ferry Portsmoouth-Caen"
The crossing was very good and and punctual but I found the reclining seat most uncomfortable and ended up sleeping on the floor. The seat on my return trip Cherbourg - Poole was far better
"Painless Travel Experience"
From booking the ferry to completing the return journey we had pleasurable and painless trip
"Back to France "
Once again a great trip back after seeing friends and family in the UK . Nice smooth trip , went down a sneaked at the dog ( sleeping soundly ) half way into the crossing , good bottle of wine and a nice meal ......bliss :O)
"Good crossing"
Poole Cherbourg is a good choice of crossing. It is longer than Dover Calais but so much less stressful to get to Poole than negotiate the M25! Barfleur is clean, spacious with sufficient faciities. Not luxury but then you don't need that if you are just crossing. Quick loafing and unloading. Nice staff.
"Escape to France with no stress"
We were very surprised and delighted with our cabin on our return to Poole. We were were tired after a long drive and slept like logs and showering facilities in the morning were excellent. We found snack and drink in the evening and breakfast in the morning reasonably priced and good. See you again in February. Thank you
"Good Trip"
We found the staff to be really good. Helpful, friendly, even tried to understand our dreadful attempt at speaking French. Lovely journey. We had a great cooked breakfast and really enjoyed that together with a few cups of really good coffee. All told excellent.
"A pleasant sail"
We really enjoyed our sail on the Barfleur from Poole to Cherbourg. The ship was fabulous, so clean and tidy and the staff were very helpful and pleasant. It was particularly helpful to be given a card with our parking deck and stair number on!
"Poole to Cherbourg"
8.30 am sailing Sunday 18th Sept wasn't crowded so there were plenty of comfortable seats to choose from. Good selection of food and drinks with cheerful helpful staff. Everywhere was spotlessly clean . A pleasant start to our holiday .
"easy journey"
A very pleasant journey to France with my car, made even better by the efficient & calm way that BF dealt with my booking when I missed an earlier ferry. The facilities were clean and excellent. Particularly good food at a very reasonable price - fab when it is an evening arrival.
"Barfleur crossing"
Good crossings out and return
"Clockwork "
From checking in to rolling off , a smooth passage hosted by charming crew members , a pleasure
"Return to England"
Direct Ferries website easy to use and the crossing from Cherbourg to Poole was one of the smoothest we had ever experienced.
"Business day trip"
Last minute arrangement for a business trip to Cherbourg and was not able to book a cabin for the return trip. Went to information to request if a cancellation became available and was placed on a list. 45 minutes into the return journey I was paged and offered a cabin. Nice and clean with shower . took all the stress out of the travel compared to flying and train - also less expensive .
"Kids pffft...."
Punctual and efficient, friendly staff. Wouldn't bother booking a reserved seat again, several families seemed to think it was ok to use the area as a creche, rendering it useless as a place to relax, either go for a cabin or save your money and stay in the lounge areas. boarding was quick and easy, although getting off was a bit of a bottle neck, all in all ok though.
"Plain sailing"
It was a fast ship which arrived in good time at our destination. There were a lot of people on board. So I suppose it is to be expected that there will be limited space for a hot breakfast despite the early start. However the distribution of what food there was - croissants and sandwiches - was very haphazard between the different food stations. Consequently ours was continuously running out. Not a big thing but kept us waiting unnecessarily. Otherwise an excellent experience.
"Trip back to england"
Found the ferry very clean and the personal were very helpful found the duty free to be quite expensive some of the drinks were cheaper in Spain the wifi wasn't very good but considering we were out at sea on a ferry we couldn't ask for more.
"Check out the reserved seats!!!"
All was well until we tried to get to our paid for seats and there ws another couple in them who pretended to look for their tickets of which we knew they did not have any and then watched them move around the area.....These tickets are only £5 but some prefer to do this and no person comes in to ask for their tickets!!! So our trip was marred by this.
"Uneventful crossing"
Our crossing both ways was calm and uneventful. However there were delays boarding at Cherbourg with the ship leaving a quarter of an hour late, with no information given. There was plenty of space to sit on board, and the cafe food was good quality and reasonably priced. Best to register and board early to get a window seat! Decor pleasant. Information booklet given at embarkation was comprehensive and useful. We were travelling with our motorhome and found the facilities at both ends for staying over night were good, and free at Cherbourg. The toilet block at Poole was particularly good, with free showers as well as toilet emptying facilities and fresh water, costing £5 for the overnight stay. We would certainly travel this way again.
"Smooth and easy"
Easy booking, simple check in. Comfortable smooth crossing.
"Cherbourg to Poole"
Everything was fine but I wonder why I paid a large extra fee for my dog which stayed in the car for the whole journey. All we were given was a 'paw' sticker for the windscreen. Despite arriving early at the Port, this sticker indicated apparently that we, and other pet owners, were to be almost last to be loaded and last to leave. Just as well my dog has good bladder and bowel control.
"Poole to Cherbourg aboard Brittany ferries ship Barfleur "
A very pleasant crossing !
"Portsmouth - Cherbourg "
Very relaxing trip. Could be a bit cheaper, but overall very good.
"Very good "
A pleasant journey. The food was good quality and reasonably priced. Enjoyed being able to mooch around the ship. Much better than flying!
"Very good "
A pleasant journey. The food was good quality and reasonably priced. Enjoyed being able to mooch around the ship. Much better than flying! On the downside, on the return journey I was disappointed that our reserved seats were not all together, especially as we were travelling with our two year old. Effectively one of the seats was a waste of money as we didn't use it.
"Getting to and from the Poole Ferry Terminal"
Excellent check in, crossing, staff etc. However why are the road signs leading to and from the Poole Ferry terminal so poor? Apart from locals, who knows where Hamworthy is? Poole is a very good port to use but on leaving the terminal late at night some simple signs would be wonderful so that one can easily reach a major route north, west or east.
"A pleasant experience!"
Considering the cost of travel generally, I thought it was very good value for money. On the return journey we had a pizza each which was really good, and only £5 each ! Only complaint, your reclining seats arnt very comfortable.
"An enjoyable trip"
This was the first time I had crossed the Channel by ferry for a good 20 years and it was an entirely different experience to anything I remember! The Barfleur is extremely clean and being a small ferry it was quick to load and enjoyable to spend time on. There is a lot of deck space for those who like to be outdoors, with chairs you can move around. Food in the restaurant is good quality, a bit expensive. The bar serves generous measures (for non-drivers). There is Wi-Fi onboard. We particularly enjoyed the help of the shop manager, who allowed us to taste a gin brand we hadn't tried before. It would be good if there was a small cinema on board, as the TV screens were showing very boring material and watching a film would be a good way to pass the time.
"Very good trip"
We decided a couple of years ago to avoid the "short" Channel crossings and choose the longer ones, depending on where we wanted to tow the caravan. Poole/Cherbourg turned out a good choice. The outward, early morning, journey was very relaxing, having pitched near Poole the night before. The return trip was the evening journey and once again was an enjoyable experience. Docking quite late at night meant we could not book a site that night, but there is space on the dock for this very reason. On both trips the ship was very clean with a helpful and pleasant crew. Although the ship was quite full it did not feel crowded. The food, in either the self serve restaurant or the café was excellent although a little slow from the latter. We opted to reserve a couple of reclining seats, which turned out to be a good idea, but why people have to use them as as an extension of the restaurant seating and then leave the remnants lying around is beyond me.
"Efficient"
Smooth crossing. Thing I liked most was the loading and unloading of vehicles was quick and efficient. Ferry left bang on schedule. Wifi worked well but couldn't get a signal in the seating lounge we were in, had to go sit near the restaurant.
"Very pleasant crossing"
Check-in & customs were very efficient at both ends. The ferry was clean, comfortable and had good facilities on-board. Overall a very pleasant experience and I'd recommend the Poole-Cherbourg crossing. Only negative point is that accessing Poole ferry terminal by road is quite a bit more tricky than at Portsmouth and the signs when leaving the port really aren't at all clear. That's not really the fault of Brittany Ferries though.
"Poole to Cherbourg"
A very enjoyable trip - will use the trip again
"my trip to Cherbourg with Brittany Ferries."
Excellant value for money, Crew was very helpful and friendly. Lots of space on ferry, plenty of space to relax and sleep if you like. Food was not that bad it was enough to keep you going. Toilets and bathroom areas are clean and comfortable. Lots of areas outside too if you fancied fresh air. All in all I would definitley use the Ferry again.
"A good crossing"
Problemless crossing. On time, with competent bilingual staff. Deck space much appreciated.
"Plain sailing!"
I enjoyed my experience on both trips with Brittany Ferries - it was easy alighting and leaving and the 4+ hours passed very quickly - in fact we left early both times. Enjoyed the wine tasting on the way over.
"Pleasure"
It is my 3rd time traveling with Brittany Ferries and again was a pleasure. Only one thing to improve, It was extremaly cold in the Ferry once We were aproaching to Poole.
"Holidays"
Was a very good trip boat was excellent clean and enjoyable.
"Good crossing"
A very pleasant crossing, on time, clean and comfortable. Staff seemed pleasant and helpful. Food in the cafeteria was a reasonable price and good quality.
"Relaxed return from France"
We normally return to UK using tunnel but are fed up with delays and amount of traffic on M25 so thought we'd try ferry for a change. Efficient embarkation, plenty of facilities on board, 4 very relaxing 4 hours to recover from day's driving before final leg of journey. We reserved reclining seats which meant we even got a short nap. Will use again.
"Excellent service"
We really enjoyed our recent ferry crossing to Cherbourg and back to Poole on the Barfleur. She has lots of places to sit, eat, etc. The food is great. One of the best Channel crossings I have ever had.
"great service!"
we had a lovely sailing between Cherbourg and Poole - ship was very clean, with lovely food available in restaurant - the staff were very friendly and the crossing was so smooth we arrived before we knew it - thanks to Brittany Ferries for making this part of our holiday so enjoyable
"Pleasant journey"
Crossed the channel on board Barfleur ( Brittany Ferries) I found the facilities to be very good. The amenities were very good compared to other cross channel operators. The food was reasonably priced and offered good choice. The seating was comfortable. The staff were very friendly , helpful and polite.
"What can I say!"
Well boarding was good....food was good. arrival was good....that is about it!..when you cruise a lot like we do it is difficult to imagine what else happens other than A to B . Barfleur is a lovely ferry and always enjoy travelling on her!!
"Great service "
We were very impressed . I liked the baby change facilities. It was also nice that they had a section / play room for toddlers. Food was great - both the fried breakfast on departure and the steak dinner on return. Staff really made an effort to clear up around us and we're very polite. The only thing letting the ferry down is that the interior is tired and old. The seating downstairs smells of stale smoke from the days when people smoked on board. I also got regular wafts of smell of cigarettes when walking past the reception area. It smelt like staff? were smoking on board??
"Enjoyable way to cross the Channel!"
We don't normally take the ferry because we cross via the Eurotunnel at Dover normally. But this time we went to Cherbourg via Poole, on the Barfleur ferry, and it was a most enjoyable experience. Some good services on board (expensive in the shops so we avoided those, but coffee from the Bar was good and reasonably priced and the restaurant seemed reasonable also). We took our food and went out onto the deck up top. Fantastic views and atmosphere, not many people (why?????), we were lucky with the weather so were able to relax in the sunshine until we arrived at Cherbourg. Great to travel in a relaxed manner when you have a lot of driving to do at the other end. Highly recommend. Toilets clean (even though very few of them!!), good seating (we didn't pay for reclining seats or cabins but I know my parents found the disabled cabins wonderful when they travelled that way recently).
"vERY SATISFIED"
ALL THE STAFF WERE VERY EFFICIENT , FRIENDLY AND KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING.
"Poole to Cherbourg "
The ferry and voyage both ways were great. However, signposts leaving Poole left a lot to be desired. I would not be surprised if non-UK travellers were still stuck in Poole!
"Relax across the Channel with Brittany."
Very relaxing crossings, less than 4.5 hours each way. Helpful, friendly staff on Barfleur. Certainly the easiest way to travel to Normandy and Brittany areas of France.
"Feedback "
Very good service. very helpful. Was our first time with our dog on a ferry and everything went swell.
"Poole to Cherbuogh"
Brittany ferries have us a fantastic crossing. The staff were polite and helpful. Would use this service again.
"Efficient and safe"
Motorcycles were tied down quickly, safely, and with care. Crossing was uneventful. Chairs could be more comfortable
"cherbourg to poole ferry"
Ferry left on time, everything seemed to run smoothly, the food was very good with a wide selection, no problems.
"Always choose Brittany Ferries"
Both crossings were enjoyable, no complaints at all. We will be booking with Brittany Ferries again.
"Great trip and service, quick boarding, great boat and accommodation "
We had a very good time crossing and would recommend this ship as a alternative to what we do usually the Eurotunnel. Thank you
"Winter break"
Good facilities and very relaxing crushers.
"The Barfleur"
100% on all issues although the boat was very underpopulated on my trip perhaps making access to all facilities very easy,
"Ferry Crossing"
Brittany Ferries are perhaps one of the most professional and proficient service we have used. cannot fault them on any level.
"Great Trip"
Easy to price and book ,took the car with effortless chech in with smooth quick loading.lovely clean ship with good facilities.
"Great service, but....."
I travel regularly on the Barfleur. The ship is excellent; spotlessly clean, comfortable, faultless cabins, nice shop, good self-service restaurant which is reasonably priced. Pay in sterling for the best value. The only thing about the route is beyond the control of the operator, and that is the location of the Poole ferryport. Hideously complicated to get to, and even when you're in shouting distance of it it's still confusing. Allow loads of spare time, because you will get lost. I've travelled from there loads of times and still get lost. Other than that, (which as I say is not the fault of the operator,) the ferry service is flawless. Recommended.
"Lovely crossing"
Excellant trip on Brittany ferries, lots of facilities. Good food choice and not too expensive. It was a lovely calm day and we thoroughly enjoyed our journey.
"Way to go!"
Super departure port from Poole, starting the holiday on a high! Best way to travel to France from the south of England by far.
"Way to go!"
Super departure port from Poole, starting the holiday on a high! Best way to travel to France from the south of England by far.
"First time on the Poole Cherborg crossing.."
I needed to get to a customer in Chef-Du-Pont & this was the quickest way for me to drive to the customer.. The crossing was very pleasant as the sea was very calm & the ferry catered for the needs of the traveller very well, however had I realised the return crossing was longer because the boat stood in the channel for 4 hours I would have booked a cabin for my return trip... Sleeping on the reclining chairs is some what challenging! The ferry crossing is very pleasant & it makes a change not to have to deal with & watch the chaos at Calais... I would make this crossing again..
"Mixed feelings"
The booking through Direct Ferries was spot on, very pleased! However Brittany Ferries were not so good and I was disappointed with many aspects of there attitude. I am in the process of writing a letter to Brittany Ferries regarding the incident. Thank you for your time you are doing a great all round job and could not be happier with your service.
"Great service"
Thank you for keeping us informed on the crossing when the weather was rough and speed was slowed.
"Best ferry we had ever been on in years"
The ship was spotless and the crew superb, we had the best meal ever on this ship, and that means a lot when you the son of a captain on another ferry company !!
"Why no flexible choice ticket"
Great ferry, great crossing but a changed booking on a ferry that wasn't that busy was an extra £70, why not a flexible ticket like the Dover / Calais crossings.
"Cherbourg to Poole Ferry"
Booking on line was simple , ferry was really good, sailing on time no problems whatsoever.
"happy "
Very happy with the trip we took with Brittany ferries ,it was not the first time we travelled with them and we were yet again not disappointed . The service and friendliness of the staff and the smooth running of things both off and on board is great . Quick to embark and disembark us Thankyou Brittany Ferries
"Brittany ferries crossing Poole to Cherbourg 27/11/2014"
Very pleasant crossing as usual, however we only travel to Cherbourg during the winter months due to the extremely high charges made by Brittany Ferries during the summer season. We have been using this route since 1968 (with various operators) travelling many times each year,if the prices were more reasonable we would continue to do so. The loss is to Brittany Ferries as we travel other routes when prices esculate on this route. Regards,C.Philpott.
"Hoped over to France"
A recent short break over to France brought the ferry into play - booked on line from the home P.C.leaving the UK, and via the android for the return journey as we were not sure of a return date - very easy and professionally supported once at the port by the staff at the dock and crew on board. Facilities all very well presented and professionally operated whilst on board also. All ready looking at booking again for next year now we have found our missed sense of adventure - Thanks for adding to our French "living the dream" time
"ferry crossing "
I was surprised at how simple and efficient the transition was from leaving the mainland and parking up on the boat , having always travelled abroad by plane i will definetly be using the service again
"Summer crossing"
Our summer crossing from Cherbourg to Poole was entertaining. Good views, you see the port as the ship goes by, had something to eat, the 4 hours flew by so quickly. Check in was quick and went smoothly. You just present the confirmation email and the passports and you get the tickets in return. However, the price was too high, € 450 for a car and 5 people.
"Positive"
It was an excellent trip.
"Cherbourg to Poole voyage - 14 July 2014"
Our first experience of this route since moving to Dorset was largely very good. It is perhaps unfortunate that UK immigration control is carried out after arrival in Poole rather than in France, as is the case on the Calais - Dover route. This leads to long delays in getting away from the port at a time when travelers will simply want to clear the port and get home as soon as possible. But no complaints about the crossing.
"SMOOTH CROSSING"
NOT BEING PEOPLE WHO LIKE FERRY CROSSINGS MUST ADMIT OUR LATEST CROSSING FROM POOLE TO CHERBOURG CHANGED OUR ATTITUDE. OBVIOUSLY THE CALM SEA HELPED BUT THE BRITTANY FERRY, BARFLEUR, WAS VERY COMFORTABLE. HAVING BOOKED TWO SEATS WE WERE VERY SURPRISED HOW COMFORTABLE AND PEACEFUL THE LOUNGE WAS. WE HAD BREAKFAST ON BOARD WHICH WAS VERY ENJOYABLE AND MIGHT WE SAY THAT THE TOILETS WERE KEPT VERY CLEAN. ALL IN ALL A VERY ENJOYABLE CROSSING.
"Bordeaux road trip"
Poole to Cherbourg. Perfect trip, no hassles getting on and getting off. Clear announcements and friendly staff greeting on and waving off! Clean facilities on board. Reserved seats in lounge very quiet and comfortable. Our trip was made special as it was D-Day commemoration and our trip was made all the more interesting. Great, well done!
"Very Difficult to Fault"
After numerous crossings on various Brittany ferries, they are all Very Difficult to Fault. Facilities and staff are all first class. Have enjoyed every crossing so far and hope all future sailings will follow the same pattern.
"Barfleur 26 november 2013"
Good all round trip. Cabin very good. Service and staff very good.
"Beware the food"
The full English Breakfast was appalling, truly so. Avoid at all costs. Shame on the French, they should know better.
"I'll make that Poole-Cherbourg trip again."
I've made about 30 channel crossings but never on that route before but I will certainly use that route again. + The reclining seats are the most comfortable I have experienced on a ship. + The ship was quiet with very little engine or propeller vibration. + Toilets were clean but they were rather cramped. + The self service canteen food was fairly good. + Well stocked shop. - There wasn't a proper restaurant. - There were no working toilets at Poole! Desperate people were being bused elsewhere.
"Easy Going"
Our first trip ever. We were impressed with the comfort and cleanliness of your line. We would not hesitate to use direct ferries again. The food was surprisingly good too. Thank you.
"FERRY CROSSING ON BARFLEUR POOLE/CHERBOURG"
Well organised, friendly staff, comfortable, good facilities, ferry departed and arrived on time.
"Brittany Ferries "
The ability to reserve recliner is recomendable
"A short cruise"
Although the crossing is short, a a ferry crossing is always a pleasure, which is a bit like a cruise.
"all good "
There were no objections. A bit missing I have an outdoor restaurant, as I am used to from ferries in the Mediterranean. It just lacked atmosphere.
"Satisfaction"
A really nice staff, nothing bad to say.
"assessment "
The entire trip with Brittany Ferries has been surprisingly easy, starting with the booking un the whole process in Cherbourg as well as in the pool. The quality of the food could be better in this respect by the restaurant would be a higher facilities and services available.
"Just like a cruise"
We are satified with our criossings. The staff was nice and cheerful.
"Cherbourg/Poole"
A very pleasant trip. Confortable seats The staff was pleasant
""
Good
"Cherbourg-Pool timetable"
I've been crossing the Channel for years aboard Brittany Ferries ferries. Generally speaking, I am satisfied with your crossings. On this journey (15 and 19 July), there was a major inconvenient ; a late arrival in Poole. Leaving and arriving an hour earlier would have been more convenient, as we still had to drive a bit with our 2 y-o baby.
"Smooth crossings"
Generally, we were well satisfied with the crossings booked for our French holiday. The boarding and disembarking procedures were smooth and efficient, although we sat in our car for a long time before disembarking in Poole. On board, we enjoyed the crossing. The food was pleasant and the staff provided good, friendly service. The pricing of the food and drinks was very reasonable. Seating areas were clean and comfortable. On the negative side, we paid £80 pounds more than if we had booked a few days earlier and will note this for next time. Also, we were obliged to pay for reclining seats on the return crossing; we did not use them on the outward or return crossings.
"Punctual as a clock"
A very pleasant crossing, perfectly on time
"A very pleasant experience"
Very efficient and punctual on departure and arrival in both Cherbourg and Poole. Excellent loading and off loading of cars at both ports. Very pleasant and cheerful staff on board. Altogether it made the crossing most enjoyable.
"Excellent very good "
Outstanding was the service.
"Surprisingly good"
Having booked through a Low Cost booking agent, I thought there there would be a catch but everything went very smoothly. I needed to provide the registration details of a new car shortly before departure but this request was handled quickly and efficiently by Nikki in the Directferries office without delay. The sea crossing itself was on time and all the necessary facilities were available and the staff competent and helpful. Loading and unloading could have been a little quicker but quite normal for the longer Channel crossings.
""
We though the travel experience was very good. With direct ferry formalities are simple, we did not miss the boat, and it all ran on time.
"Crossing between Poole and Cherbourg with Brittany Ferries "
The good thing was the Ferry left and arrived on time. Though the sea was rough, the reserved seats helped.
