"Holyhead to Dublin"
Ferry on time, boarding etc was well organised. Let down by catering, luke warm food, soggy toast. it felt as if we were pushed through quickly with food clearly prepared much earlier. Will take our own food next time.i would give 3/10 to irish ferries compared to 6/10 for recent trips with Stena with regard to catering.
"Poor vessel "
Advised when check in, ship circa 45 mins delay. Was actually over 1.5 hrs and would of been handy to of been notified prior by email. Also this ferry is way under par compared with your other fleet.
"Not good"
Cannot amend the ticket, worst experience
"Mixed crossings"
The outbound crossing was on the Epsilon. The crossing was rough and due to the Epsilon being relatively small the ferry was dipping and pitching significantly for about 2 hours. As a result where lots of people with sea sickness, crockery smashing and big waves smashing against the ship. The return crossing on the Ulysses was completely different. It is a much larger ferry and the crossing was calm possibly due to the boat size. My advice is don’t book onto Epsilon if the forecast is rough!!
" ❣️❣️❣️❣️"
Very good service. No hassle. The checkin was quick and boarding and out both so quick. The ferries were very handy.
"Return Ferry "
Going out to Ireland on the Swift boat was excellent. Good facilities and a well stocked duty free shop. The return journey was completely the opposite. Poor facilities, poor seating, very noisy, lots of cordoned off areas, so all passengers squeezed into small space. Not enjoyable.
"Irish Ferries Holyhead/Dublin"
We travelled on 24th Sept to Dublin and the service was punctual, and efficient, and the ship (?Ulysses?) was clean with plenty of facilities. Our return on 3rd Oct on the Epsilon was delayed (and no real explanation was given), the staff seemed under-trained, the cleanliness was only average and the facilities far less good, as rated below
"Customer and consumer rights "
1. We booked with direct ferries who has a website engineered to gain the maximum money from their customers by not permitting g the customer to select the travel details they require . Once booked you are not permitted to cancel for a refund and zero cooling off time is given . An example of this is where we were asked if we wanted to travel by car which we chose to do but the vehicle we wished to travel with had mr been chosen at the time of booking . Unfortunately our Honda car was not in commission and we wished to change to a commercial vehicle which we own . When we went to change the vehicle we were advised that the change would have to be sanctioned by isish ferries and we would re rice an email with the addition . The booming procedure indicates a nominal amount of 1 cent to change but this was not confirmed by email . We attempted to cancel the booking within minutes of the booking in order to rebook . This was refused by direct ferries. When we arrived at the Ulysses boat we were asked to visit the booking office where the fare was increased from €366 . We thought the nominal increase of a few cents was to apply . Not to be the case . Irish ferries said we could not board the ship until we paid an additional €240 euro on top of the € 366 euro already paid . Security checked our vehicle which was empty bar two brief cases which we had our laptops in . Soon after we boarded we received an email from direct ferries saying that they noted we were on board and they wanted to demand more money for the return trip . When we were reading the email and responding we received a notification from voda phone that there was an additional fee of €60 euro for using our phone as we were using the data whilst on the ship . Even though direct ferries knew we had paid the additional fee to Irish ferries , they were not aware that we had the additional fee was for a return trip , ferries direct attempted to further fraudulently charge yet a further fee for the return trip . This entire episode was totally unsatisfactory and in breach of the consumer protection act . To add insult to injury , our outbound trip was on the Ulysses ship which we found the facilities on board to be satisfactory but the return trip was on a freighter called Epsion with no lounge area for relaxation . The entire experience was a disaster .
"Easy to use"
I booked the day before I travelled as I wasnt sure I would be taking the car or a motorbike. In the end I took the motorbike (although the weather wasnt very kind) and sailed on the Epsilon going over and the Swift on the way back. Easy to book and only had to be there half an hour before sailing with Irish Ferries. Have used in the passed and will use again. The Epsilon is a bit basic but its got seating and hot food, The Swift is a bit better with the seating and quicker so if your budget allows, go for the Swift.
"Holyhead to Dublin"
Fast loading and unloading with facilities and cleanliness excellent.
"Epsilon-awful "
The Epsilon is a dated ship. We boarded late, but I expect that was due to the number of goods vehicles being loaded-a previous ferry was cancelled. Got keys to our cabin but toilet didn’t flush! Moved to another. Rather grubby, soap dispenser out of action, not UK style power points at all, all continental. I believe the ferry may have been on a French route first as signage English/ French. Slow disembarking too. Won’t use again.
"Disaster "
Not a regular traveler on this route, booked Dublin to Holyhead return and club lounge just presumed that meant both ways! Only club lounge going, return journey appeared to be a freight ferry. This wasn’t made clear to me when I booked, would nit travel with direct ferries again and at a price of £460 to be crammed into a small ferry with only a very small cafe and one man serving, who couldn’t work the till or take an order, the food queue was 50 deep in the first five minutes and even without the queue you couldn’t get served. Four ladies toilets for 500? That isn’t clean, and yes if people appreciate a budget oassag3 it should be priced at that and not nearly £500 for a 2.5 hour passage. I have taken this route ten times in 15 years, very very very disappointed
"All ok"
All went ok and as planned, just watch when changing details, you don't get over charged. I did get a refund, after a while.
"Trip to Ireland and back."
Great service apart from the lack of locks in the gents loos. Also a slightly confusing menu board!
"Efficient and competent"
travelled in comfort. good seating. lovely friendly staff. very efficient. prompt departure. arrived on time. Irish Ferries always good.Clean, lots of facilities.
"Irish Sea crossing"
Delayed coming home no information, facilities on board poor catering was expensive and awful food, watch staff secure rope in port they did not seem to know what they were doing, in general would go with stena line next time
"Use of Flexi ticket "
Contacted you to change my ferry time but you replied you couldn't help needed to be done by Irish Ferries. Spent the day trying to resolve this (poor Internet access where we were staying) couldn't contact IF by phone. In the end you did resolve it but the wait in-between was quite stressful
"mixed experience"
holihead to dublin trip was good, dublin to holyhead was poor. car on open deck covered in salt spray. seating uncomfortably hard for 3.5hours. duty free shop very poor
"The start and end of our holiday"
The boat on the way out was more for freight than car passengers and was okay but not great. On the way back we were on the sea cat and had the club class which was all very nice. The rest of the ship looked like it had plenty of facilities.
"Dublin"
Holhed
"Fantastic ferry company "
As always irish ferries make the journey magic with there luxury ships and friendly helpful staff. I love sailing with irish ferries
"Ulysses "
Easy efficient check in, lovely ship, has lifts if you have difficulty on stairs
"Disappointed "
Very disappointed that the reclining room is not supervised better. We endured a trip with a very very rowdy family of 6 youngsters running around around and making a din for the whole trip. They were even trying to run between the seats. And a bloke smoking a e-cig
"Northern Ireland tour"
Really punctual, easy to board and disembark good service
"Great trip"
Great trip helpful staff quick effortless boarding and leaving.
"Avoid "
Staff are rude and ignorant. Woman behind the bar (22/08/22) had no manners at all, rude, didn’t seem she wanted to be there whatsoever. Male receptionist was arrogant and rude. Only friendly staff member we came across was the male cleaner. The staff are an insult to any company. All the rooms were taken and there wasn’t anywhere to sit due to people laying down on the seats and taking up all the room. We have two infants and was nothing for them to do. Prices were extortionate €50 for breakfast for 2 adults and 2 kids. Can kind of expect ridiculous prices but the food was poor. Overall absolute rip off surprise they don’t charge to use the toilet. Will never use Irish ferries again.
"Sailing "
Everting was perfect there and the return, set sail spot on time! Staff getting cars on and off were excellent. The only issues I have was the food was expensive & awful!!!
"Recent trip"
Stena journey was great. Although like everything else prices have rocketed.
"No information till to late"
Are ferry was cancelled 150pm ,we got the 805am instead, but this wasn’t to thanks from direct ferry’s we found out from people telling us, direct ferry’s text us about the cancellation when we where near Holyhead ,I have no problem with Irish ferries.
"Thank tou"
I received a text the day before I was due to sail advising me to get to the port earlier because of the busy holiday period. When I was checking in I was advised that payment for the sailing had not been received. I followed the advice given and went to the office in the port. The person who directed me from the check-in booth and the person who dealt with the issue in the office were calm and reassuring. It was confirmed that so had paid and I was given an apology by both persons involved. There were 2 other families in front of me in the office. I am not aware of their concerns but they were engaged in a civil conversation with the person they were assigned to for assistance. They happened to be sat near me in the ship and did not make reference to their issues. I think that this was due to the way in which the personnel at the port communicate with the customers. The boarding and disembarkation of the ship was conducted very smoothly.
"Holiday "
The prices on board for breakfast etc were ridiculous, getting on and off was pretty good. We had to change our ferry home because of a family emergency and had spend nearly the whole day before trying to get it sorted, we eventually did and got charged €68 for the privilege and an apology email. I will not travel with Irish ferries again
"Excellent service "
I was a solo female of 75 years and found the trip with Irish ferries excellent, I was nervous driving my car into the ferry, but the staff were great
"Elderly solo traveller"
I was nervous about driving my car up the ramps but the staff were very patient with me
"Bad experience "
Service and sales round not very existing
"return trip holyhead to dublin"
all very efficient and smooth, with very pleasant and helpful staff; my only quibble is I can't understand why we have to leave our small dog in the car or in the cages -both very scary options for them
"Return Journey"
Great trip, but the return journey did not have a good selection of single malts. Did not purchase any.
"Ferry"
Unable to amend or cancel ferry
"Beautiful"
Pleasent trip,
"Not enough contact about cancelled ferry "
We should have been on the swift but this was cancelled. I believe we received a phone call when my phone was out of service (which was my fault) but an email would have resolved this. Also the phone message about services running was stating “all services running” when the website was clearly showing cancellations which didn’t help the situation.
"A good experience "
Good correspondence from the start. Good organisation at ports. Smooth crossing. Good facilities. Helpful staff. Ladies toilets bit nasty towards end of crossing.
"Feedback"
Staff in reception very helpful and polite. Cabin beds were very uncomfortable and shop ridiculously small with everyone queuing up for crates of Vodka. Shop is very old and should be replaced.
"Like the 1970s"
Sailed Dublin to Holyhead on the cramped Epsilon ship. The ship was clean, had good toilets and that was about it. It was incredibly cramped, the chairs were uncomfortable and though there were comparatively few passengers we were all in a small space. It made for a very dull journey. The Duty Free shop was tiny - no more than two people could be in it. It was all so different from the journey to Dublin on a larger ship which felt fun.
"Very stressful day "
Unfortunately I did not enjoy the experience having traveled 3 and half hours to hollyhead got told are ferry was cancelled from 10 40. To 14 10 we didn’t board till after 3 and set off about 15 40 to cut a long story short we ended up missing a family function in Westport
"Recent Ferry Trip to Dublin and return "
All went very well
"Unable to contact direct ferries"
I went to ireland with my partner to get married and whilst there my mother's partner had a heart attack meaning we couldn't travel back on out return ferry and neither could my mother. Tried for hours to contact someone at direct ferries to discuss the situation and any options however it was impossible.
"Dublin Trip"
Excellent
"Return trip from Dublin to Holleyhead"
My going trip was very good from all aspect .However the return trip ,the boat was different ,no club lounge which wasn’t mention on the booking ,no internet and the lady in the window wasn’t helpful in taking actions just reporting It was a very disappointing experience after the the very good experience we had on the away trip compared to the return trip I don’t find your site gives honest details about the type of ferries ,and the differences between trips facilities
"Pleasant sail"
The Crewe were well organised and very professional in there work. The his ferry didn’t have the seating space as the one we went on to Ireland
"1st crossing over Irish Sea"
Excellent
"Irish Ferries Calais-Dover-Calais"
Everything went very smooth: check in, customs, shipping, sailing, comfort
"My experience travelling with Irish Ferries"
I found the staff very helpful and friendly in their disposition. I had purchased a reclining seat and was pleasantly surprised when I enquired at reception about the cost of a berth which I then purchased. The facilities in the berth were very good, including comfortable bed and refreshing shower.
"Dublin - Holyhead"
Check in easy, sailing on time. Everything went well with no problems.
"16, snetterton close, Cudworth, barnsley, South Yorkshire s72 8 na"
We were due to depart Dublin at 14:30 and had planned to leave our hotel at about noon. At 11:33 I was informed that due to bad weather conditions, our departure was delayed by 5 hours. So we hung around the hotel as long as was decent set off for Dublin port sometime later. We joined the queue and waited patiently to board. We finally set sail at 21:07 arriving home at 5:00 on Monday morning, some 6 and a half hours late. An update of further delay would have been appreciated. However, the crossing was quite peaceful and we enjoyed our stay in Eire immensely.
"DELAY"
Fabulous
"Return to France"
We would have appreciated more precise information on the delay so that we were not sitting for hours in the port where there are really no facilities - even the change machine was empty so that buying a coffee was impossible. However the crew managed the situation on board well and in spite of no cabins we managed a reasonably comfortable night - the predicted waves did not disturb!
"Life on the Ocean wave"
Great experience on these ferries, extremely professional from the moment you arrive at the terminal, with staff guiding you every step of the way, so no need to worry if you are not familiar with ferry travel. If soon found a good place to rest whilst on the journey, and I had a beautiful meal from the restaurant, there was plenty to choose from the menu and I think it was a very reasonable priced. The trip was very smooth but I suppose it all depends on the weather at the time of sailing. I will definitely use this service again for my next visit to Ireland.
"My trip"
I travel abroad regularly usually by tunnel or ferry to France this time travelling to Dublin to carry out some works. Irish ferries seem to be ok had no issues food was fairly priced and the loading and unloading team appeared to be organised Only issue was delay in departing as i was supposed to get on the 08:18 but sent message early hours it was cancelled then first thing in morning had message to arrive no later than 3pm But ended up departing at 7pm as there was a backload of commercial trailers to load to due to the previous 2 departures cancelled as well as others from night before My only thoughts are that apart from night time the other operator can’t think who at the moment appeared to be running on schedule so could possibly be more reliable but overall smooth safe trip with some delays so not that bad
"Irish ferries Holyhead, Epsilon"
Our crossing on the way to Dublin was cancelled, we were booked on the next ferry which was 2 hours late, we arrived in Dublin around 11 hours later than expected. The return journey to Holyhead - the ferry arrived 2 hours late and the crossing took 7 hours instead of 3.5. There was no explanation, the ferry was noisy, mechanically. We had to stay in Holyhead as we were too tired to drive South, so it cost us an overnight stay in addition to expensive ferry crossings that did not get us there or back when expected. Communication was extremely poor throughout, we still don’t know why there was a problem.
"Delayed"
We travelled Holyhead to Dublin on Saturday November 27th. We were delayed 12 hours due to a store. Travelling in December we coild expect bad weather and delays but the communication from Irish Ferries and Directferries was very poor. On Wednesday December 1sr we returned to Holyhead from Dublin, again a delay, 3 hours this time due to adverse weather conditions, I have no idea what ghey were as it was a nice day, cold but nice, again the communication was very poor.
"Would not reccomend this company "
After being refused a refund due to the original lockdown notice I just used the only choice I had, the voucher. The sailings were more expensive and I also opted to pay a little more on top of the additional cost to get a better time for sailing. The ferry on return was cancelled and my only option was to go on a very early ferry (which was much cheaper) meaning cutting my holiday short and getting up at 2am and having to travel and drive 15 hours with very little sleep. No compensation was offered for the cancellation. Would not use this company ever again. Food onboard the ferry was limited, poor quality and stale.
"Trip to Howth."
Quick visit to Dublin for the Boss. We both went club class. Fantastic Fantastic Fantastic. Service. Comfort And food would highly recommend. Lovely trip. Thanks from Terry and Mick. ☘️☘️
"Ulysses"
Lovely ship comfortable and good facility for sailors, was expecting to sail on the same ship on the return journey
"Uncomfortable crossing "
The ferry lacked comfortable seating enough for all passengers. Having to sit in a small bucket shaped chair for the entire journey was extremely unpleasant. Very little facilities on offer, a very uncomfortable and unpleasant experience
"Records not up to date"
Your records are not up to date. I cancelled my trip from Holyhead to Dublin on 26 Mar 2020 due to fear of spreading or picking up the corona-virus.
"Terrible "
Going from Holyhead to Dublin what a fabulous experience we had a really lovely experience there was 14 of us ,cinema soft play for the children , however comming back yesterday omg how terrible crowded in on a smaller ferry no facilities for the children not enough seats we were so uncomfortable ao delayed and people including three of our party vomiting , other been sick all around us toilets covered in vomit and also on the floors left for ages before cleaned As long as I live I will never ever get on another ferry it was one of the worse experiences I have ever had ! After a fairytale family wedding g yesterday runes everything ! My poor daughter struggled so much with her two year old as she was confined to such a small place she suffers with anxiety and it really was awful . That’s 14 customers Lost and so many more from what we witnessed yesterday !!
"Excellent Service"
Loved my journey on Stena Line. Beautiful ship, lovely staff.
"Refusal to travel on ferry review"
On arrival at Holyhead the operative on the barrier check point reviewed my paperwork and said that the vehicle I was travelling in should have been booked on as freight! My office at work had made the booking and entered all of the vehicles dimensions etc however the direct ferries/irish ferries system did not advise differently when it received the details. I was advised to call direct ferries which I did there and then but they advised that although it was a case of making an extra payment it could not be done as the call centre was not open until the Monday morning. In summary I missed the ferry and let customers down who were expecting me, confused and disappointed.
"Unhappy "
When checking in yesterday I was told I had to pay an extra £41.50 due to a system error quotation at the time when I made the change of my booking. I had taken out the insurance which is invalid after the first leg of the journey has been completed, pretty useless insurance then as sometimes the return date isn’t exactly known. I had already paid over £190 and had to pay another £41.50 or I was refused boarding. The boat was busy and the guy told me I can go to customer service and ask for a refund, that was definitely not an option at the time as boarding was almost immediately. So now it’s going to be a long process and a lot of red tape if I was to even be successful. Not happy. It’s Direct ferries not the Irish Ferry
"Shambles "
Absolutely terrible service, couldn’t make the ship due to a crash and then called ahead (which cost a further £20) to let the ship know and to try and rebook, all that was offered was no refund but rather a one day in and out trip to Dublin around November because other dates were too expensive. Ridiculous, me and my family travel to Ireland a lot and will never be going with direct ferries again
"Welcome to 21st century "
Internet extremely poor. Non existent in the cabin . Not acceptable for suck a long journey . Time to move onto the 21st century . Otherwise staff very friendly and helpful .
"Bedding"
The sheet and quilt are most uncomfortable. The slightest movement and you were losing the quilt or getting tied up in the sheet. What happened to quilt covers? Everything else was fine.
"Great Sailing"
Went out on the Epsilon and returned on the Ulysses. Good facilities albeit the Ulysses is much bigger. Nice food served on both and very clean. Easy access with the car and sailed and docked on time. No complaints from me.
"Homeward bound."
The Epsilon is an older style ferry with limited facilites and socila areas. A cabin is to be recommended for comfort and the facility of a shower for those without a cabin would be a welcome addition. Catering and staff were both good and prices reasonable.
"Holyhead to Dublin"
Great facilities on board. Very clean and accessible.
"Quick crossing"
Ship had limited areas to relax and no shower for anyone without a cabin. Otherwise ship sailed and arrived on time and was clean.
"Ireland Tour"
Comfortable ferry crossing to Ireland with efficient roll on/roll off for car drivers.
"all good! keep going Irish ferries"
The staff was very friendly and the reclining seats were OK too, it would be great to have something in between the cabins and the reclining seats price wise because of course you can't really sleep in the seats, if you are lucky as we were it was not full and you could sleep on the floor. Beware of seasickness but of course that cannot be helped, we will always continue to use the ferry to avoid plane travel and save the planet ... Thanks!
"Northern Ireland crossing "
The worst ferry! Hardly any seats once you’re aboard and the food is so overpriced . Getting your car onto the ferry is horrendous:( Definitely would never use this crossing again.
"Dublin swift verses Epsilon."
Having booked on the Dublin swift both ways between Holyhead and Dublin, i was notified roughly 1 week before sailing that both sailings were cancelled due to "technical difficulties" something that I'm told appears to happen quite often, the only practical option was to sail on the Epsilon due to my other travel arrangements. The ship was clean and the crew professional but it is a small ship with virtually no deck space ( two very small areas either side of the equally small indoor areas, the midweek 08:15 sailing from Holyhead was not very crowded and as Irish ferries had given us a cabin upgrade we were comfortable and able to get a very good full Irish breakfast. The 14:30 Friday sailing from Dublin was much more full and we struggled to get food as people were not vacating the Restaurant. again Irish ferries had upgraded us to a cabin and we spent most of the crossing in there, I assume the Epsilon is their budget Option ferry and I would select a different ferry should I travel to Ireland in the future. Again the crew's professionalism, the service and the cleanliness was not a problem, just the size of ship and the facilities on board The Epsilon are very limited , I was just looking forward to crossing on the Dublin Swift ( not sure I would risk the "Technical difficulties" situation again )
"Convenient"
For travel to Southern Ireland a very convenient way to travel from north west England
"Epsilon"
Staff were good and the ship was stable in a fresh crosswind but it is simply an old vessel. Not necessarily a bad thing but cramped, dated and careworn.
"basic ferry "
very basic ferry irish ferry espsilon not enough seating . small café served a nice breakfast people waiting for seats to eat food . shop very basic looked through windows as it diddnt open ? . on our return journey we booked a cabin well worth it to get comfy .bit of a let down overall
"irish trip"
initial booking altered due to vessel issues but good service re-arranging, ferrys where on time and the upgrade was good on the outward trip , non available on return trip but the ferry was fine , staff friendly and helpful.
"Disappointed"
I booked a return trip (with car) on the Dublin Swift. I specifically wanted to travel on this service due to the time of travel / speed and was happy to pay the extra. A few days before travel I was alerted that both ferry crossings had been cancelled due to "technical reasons" - so was rebooked on the Epsilon service (I was not offered a discount for this cheaper option). Although on the same day, the time of the service and the additional crossing time meant that I missed my planned appointment and did not arrive at my hotel until 23.00, effectively losing half a day. The service in both directions was full to bursting and, although the staff were very helpful, the trip was anything but relaxing. And to add to the frustration the return trip arrived some 20 minutes late.
"Dublin to Holyhead return."
Punctual, smooth, pleasent journey. Cabins are well worth it, food is class.
"Very poor"
My partner took our 9 month old son to change him and wash his hands as he had got messy while eating. After changing him she went to wash his hands in the disabled toilet sink where the baby changing facilities were. She turned the tap fully over to he cold side as it was a mixer tap and felt the water to make sure the temp was ok, it was. Then when she put my sons hand under it to wash it he screamed and the water had got very hot, even though it was still on the cold side. When the man in charge (wearing a white shirt and dark tie) was told he said that it was basically our fault for turning the tap too far that way, I remind you it was the cold way!!! He did not apologise or over any assistance to my 9 month old son who's hand was now red. Seeing as he knew about the fault because he also knew straight away what was wrong as we had turned the tap "too far" the cold way, I find it disgusting that there wasnt even an apology or an offer of help. I expect a response from yourself regarding this Paul Hughes
"Worse journey ever"
Having got off to a bad start on the outward journey to Ireland ie. A change of timetable and a slow ferry as, apposed to the Swift the return journey was evev worse. Travelling on the Epsilon we were 65 minutes late leaving Dublin. Excuse was given was overcrowded hearths. The Epsilon itself was overcrowded with very limited facilities. What seats were available were much like a school canteen. Tables and hard chairs hence a queue to purchase cabins at an extra 38 euros. We had to park our vehicle at the rear of the ship and then negotiate our way back to reception avoiding cars moving into position on the deck. Arriving close to Holyhead we were then informed that there was no bearth available and had to wait another hour and a half for one to be vacated. All in all by the time we drove off the journey had lasted over 5 an a half hours. Weather conditions are unavoidable but not bearth space for a scheduled crossing. When travelling on this route avoid travelling on the Epsilon
"Preferably Irish ferries "
I would like to take this opportunity to say Irish ferries is one of the cleanest ferries we have been on the cabin are always immaculate the staff are fantastic regarding any situation everything runs To schedule brilliant wouldn't use any thing else.
"Thank you for a great crossing"
We we lucky to get priority boarding and club class. I can highly recommend paying the extra. The club class loung was comfortable and had complimentary food & drinks. The staff were lovely and friendly. I will be crossing with Irish Ferries again
"Mediocrity"
The return trip on Friday 13 on the older boat was in strong contrast to the Ulysses great experience. Poor people areas, poor careering, and overpriced products the norm.. Likely to go Stenna line next time..... Consistency, comfort and value, all go hand in hand.....
"Stressful "
Had bought extra insurance for return journey from Holyhead to Dublin alongside the booking. A couple of days into my holiday I needed to return to the UK urgently because of a family emergency but when I tried online through Direct Ferries to bring forward the date of the return sailing I found I couldn’t do it as the outward journey had already taken place. This made an already unbearable situation even worse. I tried to go through Irish Ferries but their office was closed from Saturday 4pm until Monday morning. More stress! I emailed the port at Dublin but don’t think I received a reply. I even considered leaving my car in Ireland and flying back to the UK when I noticed a number to ring at the port out of Irish Ferries office hours and managed to secure a Sunday afternoon sailing which cost an extra £50. There was nothing wrong with the two ships I travelled on. They were adequate, comfortable and well run. Staff were pleasant and friendly.
"Poor service"
Price far to high for a car and one person Swift not available for return journey
"Ferry Return Holyhead to Dublin"
When arriving at the port staff were unfriendly and rude. Afternoon Ferry was cancelled on the way back for "operational reasons" we were rebooked on the evening ferry meaning our family didn't return home until 4 n the morning. Very little in a way of apology by Irish Ferries, they even put us in the last section of cars so we were last to board the ferry and most of the comfortable seating was taken.
"Smooth"
Comfortable cabins
"Food prices on Irish ferries"
The main gripe I have is with the cost of refreshments on this companies ships. If I had travelled on p&o from Liverpool the cost of good quality meals is covered within the fare. Whilst the boats on the Holyhead route were good I will always try to sail from Liverpool.
"Decent trip"
Easy to drive on and off the ship. Don't like to sleeping facilities (dated). Make sure to bring your own blanket and headphones as people are noisy and inconsiderate, and the crew does not care. Don't do at night as you won't be able to catch up on sleep.
"Disappointed "
Irish ferries were excellent however I am very upset with directferries who I made the booking with and would definitely not recommend them to anyone. I have just found out that the actual cost of the return trip from Holyhead to Dublin was £388.75p if I had booked direct with Irish ferries and I paid £471.38pbooking through directferries. I think charging £82.63 just to make a booking is disgraceful. Not only that when I altered the original dates to travel they removed the club class seats I had originally paid for both ways. My partner and I were very embarrassed when we were turned away even though I had the information printed off. In future I will ensure I am dealing directly with Irish ferries and not a booking agent.
"Dissatisfied / Will not use again"
I have used Direct Ferries on numerous occasions in the past, without complaint, however in this occasion I paid extra to have the flexibility to change the arrangements if required. As it transpires the cancellation / change policy only covers the entire trip... once you have used part of your journey the return cannot be changed. I tried to make changes via the very very long winded on line system without success, so switched to the even more time consuming call centre customer services. I ended up buying another crossing in the hope that cancellation could could be credited or refunded. No point whatsoever in paying this extra as it is valueless. I shall complain further, but currently without some sort of credit for my lost journey (£300) I will not use this company again. Complete dissatisfaction.
"Fantastic trip"
the cabins on the ferry are very comfortable, the beds are clean and fresh which made for a good nights sleep...... would recommended travelling with them.

Very please with every thing about our recent travel with Irish ferries , disappointing that I could not buy a magazine or something to read .
"Uncomfortable journey"
The journey out was fine. Loads of space on the ship and nice smooth crossing. Journey back was really uncomfortable as the ship was much smaller and very hard to get a seat. The seats we got eventually were horrible and people kept knocking off them
"Ulster GP"
Ferry trip there and back hassle free, excellent service from both crews securing motorcycle to the deck. Great all round service 👍🇮🇪🇨🇮
"Holyhead-Dublin-Holyhead "
We travelled on Epsilon going out which was one of the smaller ferries without Club class and there was a very bad vibration// rattle in the “ quiet” lounge. So loud that we were unable to sit there. We travelled back on Ulysses which was a much bigger ferry and we had booked Club class seats which were very good but really could have done with higher backs as we had been on the road since 2 am. The snacks provided were very welcome. Priority loading was good and we were away off the ferry very promptly on docking in Holyhead.
"Very disappointed"
On the last day of our holiday we drove from our holiday cottage in SW ireland arriving within the prescribed book in time at Dublin only to be told on arrival at Dublin Port that bording had finished and the boat was leaving early. The Irish ferry representative said that we should have received email notification for the change of ferry time. I have subsequently checked and see that an email was sent on the same day as the sailing after we had already started our road journey from SW Ireland. We eventually arrived in holyhead on a later ferry at one oclick the following morning and had to drive through the night to our house to be ready for work the next day and had to pay £20 to pay to have our ticket changed to a later ferry. Bearing in mind that many of your customers travel from far flung oarts of ireland on the last day of their holiday you should pehaps think about giving at least 24 hours notice of any changes to ferry times, to give them a chance of getting to the ferry. Also the idea that your customers have to pay £20 to change their ticket when the ferry departure time is changed is bizare to say the least. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.
"No dramas"
Our crossing with Irish Ferries was very quick and efficient. There was a good variety of food on offer from the moment we were on board and enough seating space for everyone. The crossing was pretty smooth and we were kept informed of timings etc.
"Ferry Is Sound ... "
Nice relaxing place for the duration of the trip ..
"Not great "
Epsilon Dublin to Holyhead . 1 hr late to depart and onboard facilities ridiculous for passengers. I think this is a cargo ship .may be different for those booking cabins. The rude bar staff also an issue. Dublin swift far better facilities for passengers.
"Brilliant first trip"
Our first trip on a ferry and we were not disappointed!! The ferry was on time both trips and very speedy loading and unloading. Good food and lovely clean seating areas. Would definitely recommend Irish Ferries to anyone.
"Overpriced!"
The 3 and a half hour journey on the ferry to Dublin was unpleasant. Few seating choices, most if them uncomfortable. Quite a few people seemed to know this and rushed to block the sofas where one could lay down for a bit more comfort. The return leg on the faster ferry was much better, more and better seating and places to get food snd drink. Overall, the trip was completely overpriced at £437 for a car, and I will not rush to do it again.
"Great experience "
We had a great experience. This was the very first time we travelled on a ferry and it was great and comfortable. We enjoyed the club class experience very much. (We notice in the Berth beds are done beautifully but the units are not dusted. This is not a complaint but It would be good for the reputation of your service. The ferry on the 24th 0815 from Holyhead to Dublin. )
"Service"
First Class Service, quick and efficient
"Overcharged"
Hi i needed to change my ferry time from friday morning to saturday night .i tried several times to do this online but direct ferries site would not allow me to do this so instead i had to phone them up which took an hour for someone to answer ..Then it took another 40 minutes to change it but in the end it got changed at a cost of 55 pounds sterling where it would have only cost me 10 pounds to change it online if the site had allowed me to do it ...Very unhappy altogether ..I would not use this ferry again ..
"Nicer out than in"
The Ulysses ferry which took us out to Dublin was a good experience. There was plenty of seating, space and onboard facilities, making the journey ery pleasant and comfortable. The return journey was on a much smaller ferry. It wasn't full yet we still struggled for seating which were dining style chairs in the dining area. I shared a table with a family with young children. They really struggled; the children were uncomfortable and fidgety, the youngest had to stay in her pushchair, the next desperately needed to sleep the journey away but couldn't get comfortable. There was nowhere they could rest or play. For myself, the seat was very uncomfortable, the wifi didn't work and trying to stretch my legs took me to a small shop, which was closed both times I went to look. Not a pleasant or comfortable experience.
"Very happy with service"
The return journey on 21st July from Dublin to holyhead, I felt the port could be signposted a bit better, a lot of roundabouts, we weren't the only ones who found it difficult, apart from that can't fault, recommend😊
"Good and Bad"
Our outward journey from Holyhead was excellent with seats in Club Class...all very comfortable and wide range of complimentary food. Highly recommend. What a change for return from Dublin. Deck 5 was the short straw...packed, noisy, seats not designed for humans and no idea how to make a sandwich...... totally tasteless. Not recommended. Will never use that ship again.
"815pm Holyhead to Dublin"
Boat departed and arrived on time. Limited facilities on board
"Ulysses was fantastic, Epsilon not so great but overall very happy"
Sailed out on the Ulysses and very impressed with the overall experience, plenty of room, activities for kids etc. Sailed home on the Epsilon, minimal seating and nothing for the kids but overall the journeys were quick and went without a hitch.
"Epsilon "
We travelled both directions on the Epsilon. We found it to be very basic with very limited seating. Strikes us more as a freight vessel. It took us to our destination but I would prefer a different ship next time.
"Irish ferries"
Very slick boarding and offloading process Staff all friendly Food ok
"Sailing crossing "
Good trip keep passages with no cars in service
"Good trip"
Not a palace but for a few hours trip it’s fine plus cheap. Book a seat if you need a rest... I booked with Direct ferries, but couldn’t change my return date, or get a refund of my trip which is unfair : I had to paid twice my return journey :(
"Best experience "
Very fast and efficient, cleanliness is off the scale . Definitely will travel with Irish ferries again x
"COMFORT"
Going over on ULysses was top drawer voyage nice and confy, however, Epsilon was very limited seating which were not so comfortable. But breakfast was excellent
"Did the job."
Travelled from Dublin to Holyhead on the Irish Ferries ship 'Epsilon'. The boat was not full thankfully as the onboard facilities are basic. The sailing is only 3.5 hours.
"1st trip with 6mth old"
Outbound crossing to Ireland was easy, parked up and was able to get my daughter into her buggy and use the lift to get to the deck. Home bound crossing was a nightmare, it was a different boat and had no lift, we had to weave between cars as no pedestrian walkway the buggy would get through then had to lift the buggy and bags into the deck floor, checked in for our cabin to find it was on a different floor again with no lift. The staff were great and swapped our cabin to a easy assess one straight away, couldn’t fault them but if you are travelling with a baby and buggy you would need to be mindful and have someone with you to help
"smoking rules"
comfortable small ship with friendly staff. why are smokers allowed on all the outdoor areas? There should be a designated place for them so us non smokers can be outside without the whiff.
"Trip to Ireland "
The service provided by Stena was once again very good. On /off the ship was quick and easy, staff very helpful. Plenty of room to move around the vessel, different areas to sit in, including outside.
"Round trip "
Easy route for me to visit Ireland. Good service and facilities on board.
"Use anyone but Irish ferries "
Cancelled ferries no reasonable excuse or explanation so you pay for the more expensive crossing then get bumped onto the one 4 hours later that you didn’t want that also takes nearly 2 hours longer to get there & by way of compensation they give you a food voucher to use onboard, the voucher is only redeemable in one of the restaurants you’re supposed to guess which one & also the value of the voucher so you queue 20 minutes for food only to be told you have to pay for it as that voucher cannot be used in this restaurant
"Terrible Service from Direct Ferries"
Our travel with Irish Ferries was fine but at the last minute on the day before our travel our ferry was cancelled - apparently for weather reasons but on the day the weather seemed very calm. We were asked to contact Direct Ferries on the local helpline to rearrange the ferry travel. The only number I could find was a UK number so I don't know how much my call cost but when I made contact I was put into a queue and told I was number 18, after over 2 hours I got to number 1 at around 6pm - I held for 45 minutes and then checked the website and it seemed the helpline closed at 6pm so I assume the very slow helpline person just got up and went home! I then contacted Irish Ferries directly and after a few attempts were the queue disconnected at random I got a real person and in 2 minutes they transferred our booking. I tried transferring our booking online while I was waiting but it gave me an error that the rearranged crossing was before the current date which was also nonsesnse. So if you want to avoid these type of customer support issues, DO NOT USE DIRECT FERRIES!
"Return trip from Ireland"
Convenient.
"Curates Egg"
Staff are wonderful. But understandably embarrassed at charging £15 for a breakfast with coffee. This is unjustifiable. Therefore I cannot give this crossing anything other than a bad review.
"E.R. Nealon - experience"
Handling of cancelled 13:50 Ferry Sunday just past 2/6 from Dublin to HH... little notice and so had Priority boarding and club seat I paid for & couldn’t use. No apology or assistance. Very poor customer service. Will need to use other ferries now to Ireland. Shame.
"Disregard for my daughter and me"
Our sailing was canceled at approximately 4 pm Saturday for Sunday evening but direct ferries didn’t bother informing us so we had a 7 hour wait in Holyhead.....we only found out from a passenger who had been emailed by Irish ferries who we met in Holyhead......DO NOT EVER BOOK WITH DIRECTFERRIES,shockingly poor form and complete disregard for customers
"Good crossing"
Good crossing. Ferry food good. No complaints.
"There and back"
Outward trip superb with wonderful boat and facilities. Dublin to Holyhead return not quite as good, and I would make the following comments: The access ramps were barely fit for purpose for automatic transmission vehicle, and could have caused a serious problem with excessive juddering. I was quite anxious at the security booth on being told that my return trip had not been booked, until it was finally discovered that a reservation had in fact been made. Other than that, and as a first time traveller, I found the overall ferry experience satisfactory.
"Enjoyable crossing"
We have just returned from Ireland, travelling to and from Holyhead/Dublin It was a pleasant experience and found the journeys comfortable with everything catered for as far as food and drinks. We found seats easily and both crossings were on time
"Good crossing"
Piece of cake
"Trip to dublin"
Found staff to be very helpful and no time wasted boarding or departing Should have read the small print as made it just on the way back as we got on the closed the doors Would travel with Irish ferries again felt like we had just boarded when we were departing again
"Pleasant voyage with good service"
Departed and returned on time. Ship was filled almost to capacity but staff were on hand and visible at all times. Tried a meal on the way back, it was tasty and reasonable value. One noisy child, but hey, this is humanity. Quick and efficient handling and dispatching of vehicles. Would certainly use again.
"Depends on Ship"
I did not realise there were different classes of ferry - first time booking so based the bookings on sailing times - going to Ireland from Holyhead on the Dublin Swift was a pleasure - great ship and we must have booked the 'lounge' class as it included very nice seats and coffee and pastries - very nice and civilised - however our return trip was the Epsilon a much more functional experience - we did pay extra for a cabin (glad i did this) - the facilities were very poor, totally different class of ship. So try and get on a good ship coz they give exceptional service with first class facilities - the other is a truckers day out (I mean this with with the utmost respect to truck drivers)
"Good & Bad "
Excellent vessel is the Ulysses on outward journey but what a big let down returning on the Epsilon....an outdoor freight boat with (civil) truck drivers everywhere , football on every screen. NO seats and overpriced 2 Star restaurant slop served ! AVOID Epsilon.
"Dublin Holyhead"
Outward trip excellent but return on Epsilon rather basic
"efficient ."
quick smart and efficient.
"Going there was terrible coming back was fine bigger ship."
On the way there the ship was tiny, people rushed into the boat and were lying down, this left me and my friend to walk up and down the boat all night as there was no where for us to sit down which was a disgrace, at this point I don’t tbink I will use Irish ferries again, I will stick to stena line, I spoke to a memeber off start to kindly get people to sit up so I could sit down, as I’m 26 pregnant with twins. She replied ‘no sorry it’s first come first served’ I am not happy about this at all.
"Smooth crossing on a stormy weekend. "
We were dreading the crossing back home after storm Hannah had visited us the night before. The winds were still blowing and seas were moderate to rough. But we had a smooth crossing. Bit rocky out to sea but kept moving round and ate a little to keep us going. Seemed to settle the tummy eating a bit. Staff were lovely and will be using Irish ferries again in the future.
"Great Service More signage please"
Irish Ferries offer a great service by car from Holyhead to Dublin. It could be superb if not for the lack of signage for the ferry port when leaving the city centre and the small signs that do exist. Please Irish Ferries take a car to the terminal to see what I mean. I am sure you have had this feedback before so please act on it. The ferry has great facilities.
"Not all ships are child friendly "
We traveled to Holyhead on the swift ferry and this had a cinema and seats that were family friendly. The ferry back was not child friendly, seating was poor, nothing for them to do which lead to bored and irritated children all over the ship. Communication on the return ship was poor and the announcements were very very had to hear. Would not travel on any other ships than the swift. Web site didn’t make it clear the big differences in the ships. It took a very long time to dock, get access to the car and then to get off the ship. We were to lan at 11.15 and based on the trip over I had assumed we would be on the port roads by 11.45, it was 12.05 which at night makes a big difference especially with children.
"5star "
100% great job very friendly staff and very helpful will travel again with them
"Massive disappointment"
I am writing this review in the hope I get a response as my formal complaint via email has been ignored! My return journey was a frustrating and costly one as there was a serious lack of seating! Many passengers had to result in standing up for the 3.5 hour journey. As I was travelling with my partner and five month old son I was left no choice but to purchase a cabin to secure seating at an extra cost of €38! Staffs attitude in regards to this issue was poor and uninterested. This was the first and last time we use Irish Ferries.
"Very difficult with children"
Our trip was not very good as we had 2 small children with us and we could not walk around because it was difficult to stand up , people were falling around when they tried to walk.We were told the crossing before ours was rough so offered sick bags.My children were bored sat down for 2 and a half hours with no facilities on board except for the restaurant. We will not travel with swift again , OUR journey on the way back with irish ferries was also a disaster as the normal ferry was over subscribed so again we had to sit for 3 and a half hours with 2 children as there was no seats available and people were either stood up or sitting on chairs put around the outside part of the seating area also there was nothing to do on the boat .I have not complained before but these boats were not a good choice for our family and I am glad that the travel is over.
"Very tiny boat, almost no facilities"
Can’t believe how cramped the 14:30 crossing was on Monday, next time we’ll look at the Stena Line..... can’t be as bad!
"Expensive to take your car"
Great trip on the ship just makes it an expensive weekend with the price of taking your car
"Bad experience need refund "

"Great Crossing as usual"
We had another great crossing, both ways from Holyhead to Dublin. Everything went as planned and the crossing was smooth. Not much more to say really other than everytime I've crossed over to Ireland on business there has never been a problem.
"Very noisy extremely uncomfortable no small cabins"
Ive been on the Ulysses before which was quiet and had multiple choices of lounge seating available, but this boat is really primitive in terms of passenger comfort. I actually tried to book a cabin but the cabins are all 4 berth and as I was travelling alone the website would not allow me to book a room. So there is a choice of the blue room or thered room, both look like cheap truck-stop diners with a few round benches but mostly chippy style chairs and tables. Basically impossible to relax anywhere in those rooms. The only other option is one floor up where the is a room with reclining chairs. They are certainly more comfortable and many people were trying to sleep over 2 or 3 chairs - however, the ships engine is right next to it so from the second it departs there is a thunderous and most unpleasant roar - almost unbearable after some time. The pro's are quick loading and unloading and the relatively low price.
"The Oscar Wilde needs a Club Area like Ulysses"
I will keep it simple. Your chairs are not as comfortable for the elderly who might like to sleep or have a doze. Please have a Club Area such as you have on the Ulysses but don’t have in the Oscar Wilde. Also the choice of food on the ship could be more diverse & you have space a sandwich & toastie bar! Many thanks, Jason
"Ferry crossing from Dublin room Holyhead "
The sea was choppy, but the ferry ride was very comfortable. It's an efficient service with friendly staff.
"very good"
Operation quick and easy. Onboard comfortable and clean. Good food, good choice on menu.
"Sea journey Holyhead Dublin port and return journey "
I travelled with my car on 29/11 and 5/12 this year , the Ulysses is very well equipped ship but return journey on 5/12 l was on Epsilon ( a less than adequate ship, cold , uninviting with poor seating, access to and from the ship was long and difficult, no signs to indicate direction and car stored on open deck. Dublin port is excessively for heavy goods, the ordinary cars are dwarfed by monster trucks. The port is a mess and does nothing to welcome or direct motorists in and out of the port, Dun Laoghaire was a much better venue, what happened to that ????
"Going to holyhead"
Both Botha where delayed without an email update. So when we arrived at the port there was a two hour wait instead of being able to live our houses later. Also when we tried to change our boat details there was no accommodating or help with this.
"All good "
Not really been on many ferries. I found the journey pleasant enough, the staff helpful and friendly
"first class service"
what a professional service, staff on & off couldn't do enough for you 5*****service
"Excellent trip!!!"
This was a great crossing, Good ship and great staff!! Nice cabin rooms and great facilities!!
"Travel with Stena Line"
Check in not asked for passports at all. Travelled on Epsilon. Not enough seats to accommodate all passengers. Found myself waiting and watching for a seat to become available for the 3 of us that were travelling. Travelling home from Dublin got a text the day before to say that our ferry Oscar Wilde had been cancelled due to weather conditions yet Stena Lines larger ships were still sailing on the same crossing time at 2.30. Changed to the 8.05 sailing got a text 2 hours before to say that this was delayed by 1 hour. Finally got on ship at 9.20. Ulysses is an amazing ship. Facilities great and enough seating. If you book with Irish Ferries be prepared to be messed around with.
"Fantastic "
I use irish ferries all the time brilliant food and brilliant staff ship always on time comfortable seats u can add on a cabin but for 3half hours not worth it the trip flies in would definitely recommend Irish ferries
"Review is Ulysses"
Epsilon was very basic and expensive, Ulysses was a great ship with brilliant facilities for return journey
"Return journey on Epsilon"
The outward journey on the Ulysses was very enjoyable, plenty of room throughout the vessel and well staffed. However the return journey on the Epsilon was most disappointing, a different story altogether, room for passengers very limited, the bar small with just one waiter, all in all not what was expected after our outward bound sailing, I would be very reluctant to book with you again
"Journey home "
The BOAT was small and cold no tv on upstairs would have liked club lounge but liked the embarking and disembarking all on the one level
"mixed experience"
We booked on the Swift ferry from Holyhead to Dublin and return. But, never experienced the Swift: like so many before, the ferry was cancelled due to 'bad weather' and we had to take an alternative crossing on both occasions. Ironically, we thought the outgoing crossing was quite smooth, and the return crossing - well the Irish Sea was like a millpond! we believe that the reality is that due to customer numbers, the "Swift' crossings were cancelled as this was more cost effective for Irish Ferries. We understand that point of view, but disappointed that customers are misled (and over charged! - we paid more for the faster crossing). Also we had to change our holiday plans to enable us to accommodate the amended ferry times: one of the reasons we had chosen this mode of travel was the 'convenience' of selecting ferry crossing times to suit... we have learnt that this is something we cannot rely on in the future. We have since learnt that our experience is not uncommon: so my point to Irish ferries would be - why even advertise selling the fast ferry when you know it will not sail. just be honest with your customers: 1) the fast ferry may not sail due to weather - be more up-front about that 2) it is more than likely at off-peak times that some crossing may not happen as it it not worth sailing the ship for small numbers - just let us know rather than lining your pockets with the higher cost tickets which then can not be refunded... Would we sail to Ireland again?? Possibly, possibly not, this experience has made us think we would consider flying and car hire, as the 'benefits' of ferry travel do not seem worth it (or reliable)
"Beware"
My wife and I where away for a wedding in Eire near Cork and chose an afternoon crossing to return home on the Monday having travelled there early on the Friday morning. So with an early start and a long trip on Friday, then a late night with the wedding envisaged on the Saturday it made sense to book the return ferry for 14.30hrs. This with check in time and the long drive to the ferry would have meant us leaving about 10.30 a.m. A decent time and not to early. The ferry was cancelled to us via txt to my wife's mobile at 17.21hrs Sunday night. Totally ruining our last evening which we were to have drinks and a meal with family members. Instead it meant an early night and up at 03.30 to leave at 04.30 to catch the 0.800hrs ferry which was an alternative. We alerted other family members, one informing us it was quite a common occurrence. Disgusting as the excuse was the weather, which was actually a beautiful clam day. How to put a downer on such a wonderful occasion. We shall book with more caution when using ferries in future.
"Disappointing Sailing"
We were booked on the 14:10 Ulysses sailing to Dublin on 20th Sept, checked-in in good time and waited in the boarding lane. We were waiting for ages and there was obviously a delay but we were not kept informed as to what was happening. At 14:09 we received a text message which read "The 14.10 Cruise sailing is cancelled (technical). You will be accommodated on the 15.45 Epsilon sailing. Irish Ferries". To make matters worse, we were desperate for the loo and there were no facilities visible to us. (we later found out that the terminal 3 building was around the corner at the head of the queue but we were right at the back and it was raining a fair bit. no signage at all). We were eventually boarded on the Epsilon which is considered an economy sailing and more geared for freight traffic. We arrived much later than expected and so were very late in arriving at our accommodation in Drogheda. We can accept that technical issues arise and safety is paramount but the lack of information for checked in passengers should be addressed. Problems with the return journey from Dublin to Holyhead on 1st October and the sight of a number of reviews citing similar situations with cancellations of late lead me to conclude that there are problems with the operation of this ferry company and so despite previous good service, we have decided not to use Irish Ferries in future. My rating for staff competence is for the Ship's crew and Port staff only, not the operational side who I would have to rate much lower.
"great trip"
Clean, efficient and comfortable.
"Good Experience "
We enjoyed our trip with Irish Ferries! Especially the return trip where we enlisted for Club Class! The only thing we could say as a negative, was that the chairs in Club Class weren’t very comfortable, and need more back support! People were putting feet on other chairs to get comfortable!
"Avoid if possible"
First ferry from holyhead to Dublin went from a so call 2hrs 15mins to a 5 and half hour journey with about 12 hours notice. Ferry was booked for half 8 in the morning and considering we had a 6 hour drive to get to holyhead not what you want to hear with 2 under 3 year old kids. Ferry back didn't get much better. Left at 14.30. Told that this would take an extra 45 mins before we left. Side heard boat should have never left as had problems. Steamed for over an hour and had to come back to Dublin. Told had to wait to get 21.00 ferry. What you going do in Dublin at rush hour with two kids that are diary free. Given voucher for cafe in terminal which was operated by one man only. Had nothing we could give the children there and he wouldn't even give us a fruit drink for the child cause all he could give was coffee. Great. Prob won't get a response
"Ferry experience "
This was my first ferry experience and i enjoyed ot to the max. Te return trip was superb as it was a luxury cruise with cinemas an loads entertainment corners for the kids to enjoy. Little disappointed with the staff though as they were foreign and poor courtesy
"Stress free trip"
We went from Holyhead to Dublin on Irish ferries for the first time and the check in process was very easy with clear directions of where to drive onto the boat. There seemed to be a slight delay as we were parked in the car queue for about an hour before boarding but then we drove up onto the boat, parked and entered the boat very swiftly. Would have like some more food/ shop options but it was only a 3hr journey so not essential. Overall good experience.
"Business Trip"
The whole Irish Ferries set-up from embarking at Holyhead to disembarking at Dublin was smooth and painless. The ferry itself wasn't the largest, but this actually worked in my favour as getting on and getting off took a matter of minutes! The food was good and reasonably priced, the staff serving were helpful if a little flustered under the deluge of passengers all arriving at once! I spent the rest of the journey on the aft viewing terrace, so cannot comment further, but it was far more relaxing than being squeezed into an aluminium tube and flung into the sky.....
"Quite a good experience "
The outward journey (embarking and disembarking) from Holyhead to Dublin was punctual and very well organised. Unfortunately, the Dublin to Holyhead return was delayed and whilst we were queuing to pass through a terminal passenger/car processing gate, the computer had gone down for some time, causing quite a lot of frustration in that particular line.
"No Refund, yet, for Suspension of Club Class"
Returning on Epsilon, a late substitute for Ulysses, from Dublin to Holyhead on morning of 25 July, there was no Club Class as paid for.
"Travel with changes"
Direct Ferries Reference Number: DFP26799879 Irish Ferries Reference Number: 20741834 Holyhead - Dublin Departing Tue 17 July 2018 @ 08:30 with 4 berth cabin (Outside, Standard Class) (4OE x1) On the 13th July we were advised by Irish Ferries that the sailing on the17 July 2018 had been cancelled due to technical issues and we would travel on the 08.55 sailing. On the 16th July we were informed we would now be accommodated on the alternate Stena Line 08.55 ex Holyhead Cruise Ferry sailing instead. The cabin booked on the Epsilon would not be available with Stena Line and cost us an extra £38
"The return leg"
Dublin - Holyhead Depart: Tue 31 July 2018 @ 14:15. Seating: Reserved Seat (Club Class) (CS x2) We received a text message at 10.03 on the morning of travel to tell us that due to weather conditions the sailing was cancelled and we had been transferred to the 20.55 sailing, unfortunately we were travelling and did not know the sailing had been cancelled until we arrived at the check-in in Dublin. "Irish Ferries Holyhead to Dublin"
Terrible experience ... Ferry cancelled .... put on another ferry 6 hours later only for that to be delayed by another 1.5 hours. Lost a day of our holiday and because Irish Ferries say they "We are compliant with EU passenger rights regulation 1177/2010 " entitled to no compensation at all. Would never use Irish Ferries again ..... You have been fore warned. Good Luck!
"Awful service"
Irish Ferries is a misnomer.. all the crew were foreign with a poor command of English, the 2:30 sailing was cancelled apparently Due to the weather which was not supported by the shipping forecast, most of the rescheduled passengers believe it was due to low booking numbers. Totally cynical economics
"Trip to ireland"
First class service. Left on time arrived on time. Clean and tidy. Friendly efficient staff.
"recent trip to ireland"
efficient check in. punctual ferry.
"sailing"
Very good trip
"Feedback"
Practical, economic option for travelling to Ireland with a car. Loading and unloading carried out very efficiently and the ship was punctual on both the outward and return journeys. Cleanliness fine. Passenger and on-board facilities e.g. indoor and outdoor seating poor. Food was limited and expensive and the quality mediocre. However the trip only takes 3-4 hours.
"Poor very poor."
Not one person on the ship staff was Irish. The sailing was delayed by 2hours because one of the engines was not working. The crossing to 5 hours instead of 3! The compensation was a cup of tea and a biscuit. Yet at the boarding gate they said it entitled one to a meal! I’ll never trustIrish ferries again. Poor service and they lie for profit.
"Irish ferries "
We could not getake a cabin so paid for the drivers lounge not worth the money now recliners just bar seats complementary bits of nibbles but who wants to eat at 2 am .This was on Ulysses . Perfectly good seats above the shop .Coming back on Epsilon well this is basic to put it mildly it's an old freight boat .first of all to get on you have to drive up a rampant least 40 degree's with all grip bars on it that shake your car so much your Teeth will fall out they stop you on the ramp too get other cars to turn round it's ridiculous you step inside to see two people in a broom cupboard to get your key to your cabin .cabin was basic clean but noisy because it is a freight boat no sleep one small dining area and seating area rubbish ! Roll on the Dublin swift !
"Good trip "
Good trip disappointed ferry out was cancelled
"Blind leading the partially sighted"
Recently returned from Ireland with Irish ferries. Procedure at Port was laughable. Motorcyclists asked to wait in drivers lounge before boarding. When ready to board and directed by port staff to proceed, briefly stopped by Garda to ask nationality before being directed out of port instead of onto boat. Resulted in taking the road out of port before returning and going through boarding procedure again............only in Ireland !!
"Review"
Excellent service and great facilities.
"Return to uk"
We had a very comfortable trip as we were early and managed tigger a reclining seat the shop was small & open for a limited perod so when I went back. After a drink it was shut
"Great Sailing"
I enjoyed every minute , well organised everything and nice helfpfull staff , thank you ✌️👍
"Good service "
Very friendly staff
"My trip"
Very good trip all the staff on board were very friendly and looked after all our needs. The boats arrived and departed on time. Could not have asked for a better journey.
"Holyhead to Dublin"
Could not fault any part of the trip. Simple check in procedure, easy access , not too busy. Good food available both breakfast and lunch. On time. Exactly what is needed to take the worry out of going on holiday.
"A great start to a holiday"
In my opinion your holiday starts when you leave home. Using Dirct Ferries and Irish Ferries is a great way to start Easy booking Easy amendment if required ( we did) Helpful staff A clean comfortable boat And a generaly easy and pleasant trip.
"Purfect"
My wife and I used Irish ferries for the first time and we were both extreemly impressed with the cleanliness and the overall condition of the ferry ,we have in the past traveled to eaurope on ferries many times but never with such pleasant surroundings ,overall excelent thank you Irish ferries
"Good service"
Good service, on time both ways, very efficient friendly staff and very clean ships.
"Crossing to Dublin"
We had easy check in and not long to wait to load. Great facilities on the boat and very comfortable.
"Ferry crossing "
Fantisc food. staff very polite can say any more .just book and enjoy .
"Inadequate information following cancellation of ferry. "
Knowing that the 2055 Ullyses ferry was doubtful we turned up at the Irish Ferries Gate to catch the 2040 alternative which we were uncertain about due to a ambiguous message on our mobile telephone. The digital notice board at the gate informed us that the 2055 would be on time and then later that message changed to cancelled. Surely it should have been updated from the start. There was no one at the gate to inform us that it was possible to transfer to Stenna Line. Even a hand written notice on the gate would have sufficed. It was only by chance that we found out about the Stenna option otherwise we would have been waiting there for the 0155 sailing.
"Very poor communication to the travelling customer"
After ambiguous text messages to our mobile phone we started for the ferry port knowing that the sailing of the 2055 Ullysses on 2nd May was DOUBTFUL, and that a possible alternative may be a 2040 sailing. On arrival at the Port, at about 1630, we lined up at the Irish Ferries gate and were pleased to read the digital notice board saying that the 2055 would sail on time only to be disappointed later when it was updated to cancelled. (SURELY AN ACCURATE ANNOUNCEMENT COULD HAVE BEEN DISPLAYED) We were uncertain whether a 2040 sailing was still on but decided to continue to wait at the gate. There was no one at the gate to tell us that we could transfer to the Stenna Line. THE LEAST WE WOULD HAVE EXPECTED WAS A HAND WRITEN NOTICE PINNED ON THE GATE, but nothing. It was only by chance that we learned of the Stenna option, otherwise we would have been waiting there until the 0155 scheduled sailing. ALMOST NON-EXISTENT CONCERN FOR THE CUSTOMER.
"Different - but not really"
My first experience of Irish Ferries & initial impressions were favorable. However, don't know if it was the time of the sailing - but it did seem to attract very loud passengers. The lounge was intolerable & no crew members to politely invite a little consideration for others. Had to seek sanctuary in the restaurant which meant joining a far longer queue than I'd ordinarily countenance. Still, service was quite good, prices not too bad but the best that could be said of the food was that it was hot (rare on a ferry) & filling. Coming back, the best bit was Terminal 1 in Dublin Port - not used to facilities at ferry terminals! The vessel wasn't as nice, inescapable, too loud TV AND a captain who thought he was out on deck with a loudhailer - not using a PA cranked up to 11! Never lost my car on a ferry before, the signage to & from the car decks really does nee some improvement. Please ignore all star ratings below, they are unfathomable rubbish. Suggest you redesign website immediately - assuming, of course, that you want accuracy.
" Ryanair ship. "
The ship is fine but if you suffer from sea sickness because the seating areas are at the front of the ship it makes it feel so much worse, take the Ulysses if the sea is rough or you have young children with you.
"Fab service"
Very punctual, comfortable trip, will definitely use Irish ferries again
"My worst experience ever"
The ferry was canceled at the time I booked and the re-arranged trip was delayed further until I completely missed my purpose of returning to UK via ferry. The ferry was so rocky, so turbulent that I got sick twice on board within the 3 hrs crossing. So shaky and so rocky. Will I travel with them again? Well I wouldn't if I had other choice but unfortunately, none. But I will limit road trip to Irelnad.
"Another smooth crossing "
Fantastic return trip from Holyhead to Ireland travelling via ferry. This is our second trip in 18 months. A very easy way to travel - from the driving on board, to the friendly accommodating staff; the pleasant experience we received; the clean ferry fits our every need. We will be booking again soon 😁
"Relaxing crossing"
After my last turbulent crossing in Winter 2016, I was a little nervous. The crossing was pleasant. Food was ok, a little cheekily prices for what it was. Bar was comfy. Our cabin was neat & clean. We all slept well.
"Ulysses Boat"
The staff were all friendly they greeted you when you get on .They have big tv screens in most places. It has a small soft play area for under 5 small ,arcade , cinema ,a bar , resturante and a shop if you want to treat yourself. Wow so plenty to do if you want or just sit and chill like I did the journey goes fairly quick from Dublin to Holyhead.
"Cancelled"
Both booked crossings were cancelled due to the “weather” altenatives were offered which made the trip to Dublin almost pointless- both crossongs were flat calm. The ship was very good with no complaints about the facilities offered
"Unfortunate event"
Have to say it was not a pleasant experience but down to the weather delaying things by 6-7hrs
"Trip to Dublin"
Good experience with efficient service through out especially embarking and disembarking
"Ulysses"
Not a great experience as the ship was in port fit 6 hours with engine trouble, had a 90 year old and a disabled person in group, finally got to Dublin at midnights .
"Overpriced"
Ticket was extortionate, food was extortionate, cold and tasted burnt. Then... I get off the Ferry and find out they’ve billed me £34 for mobile data usage whilst on the ferry - I was asleep on a sofa the majority of the journey!? How do they justify a bill like that, honestly... Apparently they have their own mobile network inside or something according to my mobile provider. Oh and once we were on the ferry it was delayed by at least 2hrs. On the plus side, it did manage to cross from Ireland to Wales... Eventually.
"Recently "
Good crossing in difficult conditions
"Much more relaxing than flying!"
This was the first time I had travelled to Ireland via ferry - all previous visits were via air. I know which I prefer! It is so much more relaxing and spacious than being cramped into an aircraft cabin! And I find that the airport security experience these days (albeit clearly necessary) can be quite stressful - there was none of this hassle travelling via ferry. Thank you for the experience - I will probably be using your services again, as time and budgets permit.
"Mostly for lorries"
This crossing is mostly for lorries. The ship has limited facilities, poor WiFi, no entertainment and normal cars are parked on the open deck. Had we known this we would have never booked. The website should be much clearer.
"Good and bad"
It all started disappointingly as I was booked on to the 17-15 fast ferry, this was cancelled on the morning of travel due to 'adverse weather conditions' (as it happened the crossing was very smooth) maybe the truth would be better than using the old 'adverse weather conditions' anyway this meant changing times on both outgoing and returning ferries as I was only in Ireland for a few hours. The lady I spoke to to change ferry times was very helpful as where all the staff that I had to deal with throughout. I booked 2 bed accommodation which was comfortable but extremely basic and I have to say the food was below average. I have travelled this route with one of the other operators and I'm sorry Irish ferries but they did leave me with a better experience. Would I use Irish ferries again? For the amount of time spent on the boat I would but I would make sure I had eaten before boarding.
"Holyhead to Dublin (return) - October 2017"
The whole customer experience was great from booking the trip to getting back home safe and sound. Direct Ferries offered a number of options and I could select the one that was best for me. The whole process was quick and simple. Irish Ferries - The loading and offloading of the vessel was quick and simple. Staff on the ferry were friendly, happy and very professional. There is plenty of places to sit and enjoy the trip and the views. A great experience and will be travelling with Irish Ferries again and again....
"Very nice experience."
Cabin was clean, staff was very helpful.
"Would recommend "
Took the ferry when storm Brian hit. We were well informed and kept up to date with text and emails I was very impressed
"Dublin crossing "
Extremely easy trip. Recommend this company. No problems what so ever
"Terrific experience"
The check in process was very easy with the staff very friendly and helpful. Clean facilities and plenty of room to enjoy the three and a bit hour journey. Service was efficient and once again friendly. Would certainly recommend the experience.
"Journey to and from Holyhead to Dublin"
Our outward journey on the Ulysses was lovely. There was seating on the deck, great shop. Comfortable seating area and good restaurant facilities. Great ship. The return journey was the Epsilon. Awful no deck seating, tiny shop, no comfortable seating area. Would not recommend this ship.
"Brace yourselves"
A very overpriced 3.5 hour trip, limited space and a constant rocking that even the most seasoned traveller's stomach lurched at. Meanwhile, the parking upon the ferry was well organized and prompt, the service was extremely friendly and efficient and the cooked food available, though rather pricey was varied and fresh, ultimately. So congratulations to the excellent staff, I'd like to hope they are the ones getting the main percentage of the ticket price! Also, I do get that if people stopped flying so much then the demand could increase and prices would drop, but in the meantime, expect complaints over the price :D
"Avoid Epsilon if you can"
Outward journey on Ulysses was, Ok, a typical roro ferry with plenty of comfortable seating space and adequate facilities . The Epsilon for the return crossing however, was not good , it is a commercial vehicle ferry with only very basic passenger facilities , not enough seating and limited eating options. It was an hour into the journey before my wife and I could find two seats together, in a small reclining seat area .
"Our trip to Ireland"
Thoroughly enjoyed both crossings - ferry clean, staff pleasant. Would recommend the Swift (2 hr) Dublin to Holyhead especially.
"Holyhead / Dublin"
Good crossing, very comfortable .Would recommend.
"Easier than I thought # ferry novice"
As a child I came to Eire with my Dad on a regular basis, only paying attention to the food onboard! As an adult I was incredibly nervous about driving and parking onboard. I can now compare it to a multi storey car park. I was guided in, told where to park, got out and enjoyed a full Irish breakfast. Slick, organised, clean, safe etc. Amazing facilities. We booked a cabin for our return journey and couldn't rate it higher. It was like a little hotel room. We had a wake up call, not pee-arranged which gave us time to get ready and clear instructions of when to rejoin our car. A great experience.
"Coming home"
Turned up a day late by mistake as I was on the 1:50am Tuesday. Which means I should depart Monday night but thought Tuesday. The girl said this and changed it no problem and no fee 😁
"Ferrie"
it was very good
"Irish Ferries not as good as Stena"
Travelled recently with both Irish Ferries and Stena. Irish Ferries are a poor second. They got off to a bad start with the check in at Holyhead. 3 lanes of traffic but only one barrier working, so after arriving 1 hour 45 mins before sailing we were virtually last on the ferry because there was nobody to check in our lane. Once on the ferry the WiFi is waste of time, they might as well not bother, did not manage to connect once in 3.5 hours. Prices for tea and coffe on Irish Ferries is outrageous. Will not book Irish Ferrries again. To be fair the WiFi on Stena is very poor but at least it does connect a few times, also on Stena you only pay once for your hot drinks and refill as many times as you want. Check in and getting on the ferry much better with Stena.
"Good Service"
The service provided on board was excellent with ample sitting for everyone, boarding was effortless and on time as was the arrival at both Dublin and Holyhead.
"Ulysses"
The ship itself was impressive and the staff were very helpful as we needed assistance with a wheelchair. However, the catering left a lot to be desired on the Ulysses as the sandwiches we bought were expensive for what they were as the cheese was processed they used the outside crusts of the loaf and bread was very stale. It was inedible. Really disappointing compared with the catering on the Epsilon.
"Holyhead to Dublin"
The crossing was fine. It would be helpful to know which terminal to go to at Dublin port. Perhaps a text could be sent 24 hours before the sailing confirming the departure terminal. Thank you. Kind regards, David Arkell.
"Simple & effective"
The booking process was simple and effective, no problems at all. Loved the Swift outgoing crossing, we upgraded to club class a very pleasant experience. Would have liked to have got the Swift back but it was not at all easy to arrange.
"Return journey disappointing"
Travelling over to Ireland was quick, comfortable and the ship had a suitable amount of facilities. When you get on this ship at 2am then move quickly as people will lie all over the seats so seeing people sleeping on the floor is not uncommon. Coming back was completely different. The area we were directed to was in complete darkness and it took a passing docker to tell us to go around to the truck access as the car access was not going to be opened. The ship had really only 2 restaurant/coffee areas to sit in serving a poor but expensive breakfast. This made sleep impossible and if i'd known this previously then I would have booked a reclining seat. Kids seemed to have nothing (although we didn't have ours with us). This ship was geared more for long haul truckers rather than families. Overall very disappointed for the cost of this journey (£350). If there is a major difference in facilities provided on the outgoing ship to the incoming ship then this should be highlighted more clearly when booking. Will not be falling for this again.
"Good out going ferry"
Really enjoyed r journey over on the Ulysses ferry with great seating and space to walk round and stretch ur legs unfortunately it was not the cars on the return journey on the epsilon ferry feeling very cramped and little space for seating. Limited food also available.! Wouldn't book the epsilon ferry again! Great start to our holiday shame the return ferry was a let down!
"Great service"
Everything ran smoothly from checkin to disembarkation. Helpful and cheerful staff and great facilities. A special thank you for the free dog kennel on the return journey in very hot weather. Great service all on time.
"No frills ."
The ship is disappointing ,design does not suit anyone with a physical disability. Facilities are basic no hint of luxury.
"Welcome to Ireland!"
I enjoyed a swift and smooth journey en route to a week's travelling around Ireland. We arrived relaxed and well fed - the sausages were the best I've tasted. There was room to sit and eat and then time to stand on deck to enjoy the scenery. A definite for future travel.
"ferry"
far too long. we returned via Larne.
"HOLYHEAD TO DUBLIN RETURN JOURNEY"
Everything went very smoothly and on time but I must say there was a vast difference in the 2 ships. The Ulysses was lovely with plenty of space and nice shop to look around but on the return ship we could not get any comfortable seating as all the good seats were taken and there was only a tiny shop open with nothing worth looking at in it anyway. Also saw a young Mum with 3 young children and there was absolutely nothing she could do with them. It would have been nice if there had been an area for them to play/draw or something. So I think it is worth checking what ship you would be travelling on as time went by very slowly with nothing to do at all on board.
"Good service"
Every thing went according to plan and the staff were always very helpful
"Recommended"
I had a pleasant journey and have arranges to travel soon
"Dublin to Holyhead"
Had a lovely sailing on this ferry. Excellent service from checking in to disembarking.
"1st class"
Booked club class staff great pleasant and helpful being disabled with walking difficulties they made sure that I was well catered for during the crossing to Ireland a big thank you looking forward for My next trip.
"trip to Ireland"
a very pleasant trip ,quick boarding plenty of room very clean and tidy with good service
"Hollyhead to Dublin in a blink of an eye"
Hi Guys, my trip from Holly head to Dublin was a smooth as a baby's bottom and as quick as anything I was very impressed, slept well for the short time aboard and exit was without a hitch. would recommend this route to anyone wanting to travel to Dublin, the Holy head road is also very good and the views worth looking at. go and enjoy, i did.
"Trip to Ireland May 2017"
We arrived at Holyhead and didn't have long to wait before we were ushered onboard. We got our cabin key and went straight there. The crossing was very smooth and we docked on time. The return journey was just as simple, except that we had to ask where the docks were because of the road works.
"satisfaction"
staff very helpful, breakfast lovely however coming back in the afternoon the fish and chips were dreadful the only conclusion we came to was the oil in the fryers had not been changed having been in catering myself.
"Never Again"
I have used Direct Ferries for many trips to Ireland but this time found the whole booking service terrible. There was issues with changing a booking which finally cost me an additional £219 and ended up travelling on the Episillon boat which was not fit for day time passengers - more a cargo transport than passenger. I had specifically requested to be on the fast boat ie Swift and on arrival at port discovered I'd been booked on to the Episillon. A nightmare trying to get through to speak to an agent to make booking changes as couldn't do it on line as I travel with a dog and so that option is not available and totally unsure as to why. Overall really disappointed, frustrated and stressed as well as significantly out of pocket for the overall trip this Easter. Will not be using Direct Ferries to book future trips to Ireland - no Never Again!
"Irish Adventure "
Smooth check in and really impressed with how efficient the loading and unloading of vehicles was. Limited choice of catering on board.
"Ferry's"
The Ulysses is a wonderful ferry, really loved the trip from Holyhead to Dublin. But The return trip on the Epsilon, we didn't really enjoy, parking on the deck was the first thing, second the engine noise was very loud. Could find anything to do. All the TV's were showing Football.
"my trip"
The outbound journey could not fault clean, friendly staff, plenty of facilities. The return journey was complety different staff very helpful, the very small shop was not open asked for this and waited for staff but never arrived.
"Stop sending me marketing emails with no possibility of "unsubscribe""
The ferry was fine. Took ages to "park" the ship in Dublin though, and the food on board is extortionate price but the seating was comfortable and the staff were excellent. My problem is there is no option to "unsubscribe" from these emails inviting you to post a review. Replying just bounces the email back with "undeliverable" so it's hard to see beyond yet another company looking for someone to meet their tick-box targets of x reviews per month where nothing will change. That's right - nothing will change no matter what review I write: reduce your prices for food. There. That's my review. Oh and stop sending me marketing emails.
"Trip from Dublin"
As our crossing on the Swift service was cancelled we had to book onto this crossing. We didn't book a cabin so had to use the lounge which was very basic to say the least. The seats were most uncomfortable. We won't use this ship again by choice.
"on board cafe"
appalling. the worst food I have every had, breakfast that was dried out, paid a lot and just moved it around plate, I had driven for six and a half hours and waited to board, to be given worse than slops. complained and nothing happened?? I would not give it a star but it comes up, that you cannot give it any less.
"Ireland"
I took my motorbike over to Ireland to see family, first on first off ! Excellent
"Not a nice experience"
Have travelled with Stena Line many times, we booked a four berth cabin for this journey. This is the second time that on entering a cabin there was a really nasty smell but being really tired tried to get some sleep. Very unpleasant. Two days later my wife went down with the Vomiting bug. If there is a problem with any of the cabins the problem should be solved before occupation. Whoever cleaned this cabin must have been aware of the awful smell. The Stena Adventurer is a lovely ship so would be a pity to be let down by cabins not being properly cleaned and sanitised. With reference to recommending the ship to a friend we would say yes but would let them know about problems with cleanliness of cabins if needed.
"Un pleasunt journey "
My first time on Irish ferry and it was unpleasant journey was very disappointed when entered the ferry. The seating eara was very small I felt suffer cated.
"Couldn't make trip to Ireland due to grievance "
I found direct ferry unhelpful as could not be refunded due to family grievance or anything back as a good will gesture and I will be trying other ferries before using direct ferry again
"Dublin trip"
After a long drive, I boarded the ferry at 8 in the morning, all facilities were open and had no problem with refreshments and food, quick service. Easy access to a comfy seat plenty of room. On and off the ferry with no delayed or queues. Recommend this ferry
"Smooth crossing"
A very easy crossing
"Nigjt at sea "
Very good relaxed start to finnish
"Travel with Ruby (our campervan)"
Decided on 7.30 a.m. a crossing in order to have full day sightseeing in Northern Ireland. Boarding was easy, ship departed/arrived on time. Had a well cooked Ulster Fry to set us up for the day. A great start to brilliant holiday.
"A nice trip"
The ferry was clean and on time; a pleasant experience that we're looking forward to repeat soon!
"pleasurable experience"
Home and away, the trip, service and experience was comfortable and joyable.
"Superb service"
The service you provide trim booking to actual boarding/ sailing is excellent very simple and straight forward I had to alter my booking which was done with ease will most defiantly be travelling with you again. Excellent well done and thank you
"Family trip to Ireland"
All the arrangements went to plan, staffing were very helpful and friendly great experience
"Very good trip."
My first time traveling with Irish Ferries will not be my last. Very, very good experience.
"Dublin to holyhead "
Lads on the booking office were fantastic. They helped me out of a very difficult situation. On board very nice. That said the food was substandard and very overpriced. A very pleasant trip.
"Ireland trip"
Out going ferry dissatisfied but return ferry 5 star will be booking through these again
"A great trip"
The crew were friendly, patient, professional and very patient (not that we gave them any trouble! But I overheard various exchanges that made me admire their patience and sense of humour), the ship was fantastically clean and comfortable, a smooth sailing and all in all really enjoyable. thank you
"Very pleased"
Sailed on Saturday 18th June and was very impressed with how everything ran so smoothly , It was my wife's first time in Ireland and she was a little apprehensive about the boat so it was good to see her with a smile on her face once we set sail,The boat was very clean and the staff we met polite I would not hesitate to recommend this service to others.
"Holyhead to Dublin Ferry"
Fantastic ferry with a lovely premier lounge (well worth the money), the facilities were fantastic and prices were reasonable, I will not hesitate to travel this route again
"Very Satisfied"
We thoroughly enjoyed our trips in both directions. The service by Direct Ferries was very efficient, especially when our ferry from Holyhead was cancelled because of bad weather. We will definitely use Direct Ferries again.
"Great trip"
Was very impressed with the ferry service from Dublin to Holyhead. The Ulysees was fabulous, very smooth sailing. Food was great as were all the facilities.
"Relaxing experience"
We arrived in plenty of time at the port, we were so glad to have reserved our seats in Club Class, pleased to have received good service and good food/drinks for our outbound journey, very relaxing. Only thing on the outbound journey, we took the sloooowww ferry. If we had reserved for the later service (which was 15 minutes after), we would have been on the Swift service which overtook the ferry, and arrived back much earlier that afternoon. But apart from that for our first journey .. was very good, cannot fault. Thanks
"A good way to travel to Ireland "
We travelled on the epsilon to Dublin from Holyhead and back. The return journey included a dog and elderly parents one with mobility issues. The whole experience was pleasant, especially as the weather was good. We had a meal which was tasty and the facilities were clean and easy to access. I would thoroughly recommend this route and plan to repeat this journey in 2016.
"Holyhead to dublin crossing!!"
Had a very pleasant crossing and staff on board very helpful and pleasant would recommend crossing to others
"Brilliant crossings, comfy cabins"
I'm so pleased to have booked cabins on both legs of our holiday, it is definitely the way to travel. Excellent service.
"Beautiful Crossing!"
We had a wonderful crossing from Dublin to Holyhead! The weather was glorious and the smooth trip was even better in the upper deck lounge.
"good service"
The staff were efficient and friendly and the ship comfortable
"Dublin to Ireland trip"
Had a great trip to Ireland on the Ferry with my family and it was good value too
"Transfer due to a storm"
Everything was perfectly organized, quick handling of everything and excellent service on board!!! Frank Reijnders
"will use them again"
Travelled out on Ulysses. Great boat. Really clean. Lots of space. Lots of food to choose from. All staff couldn't be more polite and efficient. Found a lovely spot in a reclining seat. Only thing that spoilt it was a family letting their kids run round screaming at 4 o'clock in the morning but that wasn't the ferries fault. Came back on Epsilon. Clean boat but very small public area and was packed. Coffee counter and small food outlet. Very small shop selling perfume and chocolate. Very basic but still clean and very polite staff. Will travel with them again but will check which boat first to get the Ulysses.
"Sunshine!"
This trip to England was the first time that I took my car on the ferry. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat! The overall trip was amazing but I think Irish Ferries put us in good stead for the trip. Admittedly we were running late, and turned out to be the last car on the ferry leaving Dublin, but your staff we're so happy and smiley, gave clear directions on getting on board as quickly as we could. The ferry itself was clean, well looked after and the staff seemed happy in there jobs. There were loads of power supplies so could give our technology a little boost before drive on to London. We had a similar experience travelling home (this time were 45 mins early!). I could not fault our experience of travelling with Irish Ferries, you even made the sunshine it would seem...
"The most important thing when travelling the care of my bike. "
Going out they just put a strap straight on the seat of my 3week old bike no padding. Coming back nice guy with padding much happier. Next time I'll bring my own padding or might try Stenna.
"ferry crossing"
What a lovely time we had, the port staff were friendly busy people. No delays, which is always a bonus. The ships on both out and in were clean tidy and all staff were very helpful.
"Basic"
There were no issues with the trip at all- it is a very basic vessel. Was quite boring due to no entertainment compared to that offered by other carriers.
"Some important details should be taken care of."
The ferry is quick and confortable but there was an inacceptable problem. Although it was probably the first trip of the day (8:45 AM), there was no toilet paper in women restrooms. Disgusting.
"Trip to Ireland"
Ferry going out from Holyhead on time and had good facilities on board. Weather very poor but ship handled weather well. Dublin return ferry cancelled due to bad weather. Text message received day before to reschedule. No problem with call centre just happy to help.
"The Only Way To Go"
I'm a professional commercial and wedding photographer, based in Cambridge. I needed to travel to Dublin for a week to take architectural and interior photographs of the newly fitted-out offices of both Yahoo! and Twitter. I also tagged on a couple or so days to stay with my cousin, in Dun Loaghaire. For what I was doing the equipment I needed to take with me was not particularly extensive, even with essential back-up equipment. My clothes, apart from my walking boots, were minimal. Surely, the 'obvious' travel solution would be Ryanair from Stansted, just 30 minutes down the road from where I live. Unless you're going to Costa Blanca with a tee-shirt and tooth brush, don't even go there, unless you want to open up the logistical nightmare from hell of petty policy enforcement, whilst racking up extra cost on extra cost, or risking the humiliation of re-packing your bags or re-distributing your luggage weight in front of a queue of other passengers...or is that Easyjet? It's bad enough travelling as a photographer, but think of those poor musicians - cellists and double bass players..... For me the solution, at least on this occasion, was absolutely trouble free: hire a car from my local garage; drive up to Holyhead; join my £248 return Irish Ferries crossing. The ferry booking online with Direct Ferries was simple. I ended up with a fast ferry out, slow ferry back. Slow? Well, hardly. A couple of hours longer than the plane, but then when you factor in check-in and transfer times, it's a pretty fair match. The staff on the ferry were very kind, welcoming and friendly. The facilities, just right. The crossing, smooth. My sanity, intact. Clearly, not every journey can be made like this, for all sorts of reasons, and I still have to fly to destinations. However, what I will say is that if you get the chance to incorporate a ferry crossing in a similar fashion as I did, recently, to Dublin, then do it! OK, not all ferry operators are equal, but generally, in my experience, they are clean and hassle free. And, if you have a family travelling with you, then the economics just gets sweeter. Just saying, don't overlook the ferry option. Plane operators do have their place from Ryanair's restrictive cheap and cheerful-ish to BA's 'humane' scheduled, but expensive flights, at more than double the cost of my ferry crossing for a business class seat. Dublin was my first time in Ireland, but I did manage a walk up the Sugarloaf, and a visit and walk around Glendalough. I'm considering going back to Ireland later this year, with my family, to explore what appears to be a quite magical place. My mind is already made up how I will travel there. Any guesses?
"cherbourg/dublin cruise"
very enjoyable and comfortable crossing, at a great price; cheaper than Holyhead to Dublin and if you are going from france - a lot of travel through England & across channel alleviated. like all catering on ferries [except the French companies] - no 'public' microwave in the restaurant to 'blast' your food back to hotness after its gone cold on the way through the till to the table; and ferry food is rarely hot to start with [why is that?] all ferries should provide the excellent ikea idea of microwaves available for that purpose [we don't like microwaves but like cold food even less]
"A very pleasant trip"
Staff very friendly, ship very clean and food and drink of a decent quality. Trip made better because of good weather, luck factor. We plan to use Irish Ferries in the future for all visits to Ireland.
"Shock on arrival at Dublin port"
My husband, daughter and myself turned up in good time to be told my daughter had not been added to our booking. The guy in the kiosk on arrival at the port was abrupt and insisted I had not paid for an additional passenger. Only when I offered to show him my bank account statement online did he agree to let us proceed. We were then ushered through quickly and queued with the other pet owners in order to get our dog on board. The ship is spotless. The cabin was perfect. The staff on board the ship are so well trained and provide an outstanding service. The food in the restaurant was excellent. My only complaint is that the lady whom I spoke to when I added my daughter was not listening as I believe she charged me for a return trip even though on booking I only requested a single journey. I hope you can look into this and pay me a refund.
"Holyhead to Dublin port ferry"
I sailed Holyhead to Dublin port return with Irish Ferries and everything was very smooth and easy. On our return trip the fast ferry crossing was cancelled due to poor weather but I was warned to check with the company the day before, so we changed our reservation in good time. I would recommend to anyone taking a car over to Ireland.
"A lovely cruise"
Hi We had a lovely trip on the Stena. The staff were polite. The seats were comfortable. The trip was enjoyable. The only busy part was when everyone was pushing a shoving to get down deck to the cars. The lift was overwhelmed and slow. People became very impatient. Thanks Deb
"Good start of our trip to Ireland"
Everything went very efficient. Good cabin. Good information during the trip.
"Irish ferries"
Excellent trip, couldn't fault anything. Quick and easy to embark/disembark, comfortable seating, helpful staff, food and drinks if required.
"Irish Ferries trip"
My family (wife + 2 children) travelled recently b/w Holyhead, Wales and Dublin on Dublin Swift ... a 1hr 49 minutes travel. It was a fascinating experience and i would like to go on this journey again.
"Cherbourg Dublin trip"
I recently travelled with Irish Ferries (Cherbourg to Dublin) apart from the original ferry being cancelled, We had a three star two birth cabin where we discovered the toilet was faulty. We frequently use Irish Ferries but feel the standards are dropping and the cabins and could be freshened up. Apart from that staff are friendly, sailing was very pleasant.
"A punctual crossing"
Everything happened as planned.
"Pleasant"
The boat was clean, but simple. The essential was there: bar, restaurant, TV… The cabin is clean and functionnal with a TV.
