"I don't know if it was cheap, but it was VERY easy. "
1. Check-in (online) was easy. 2. Finding the port was easy. 3. Getting onboard with car, two people and a large dog was easy. 4. Finding our cabin was easy. (Special note - the shower in there would not be out of place in an expensive hotel!) 5. Finding the kennel area for exercising the dog was easy. 6. Finding food and drink during the trip was easy. The coffee was surprisingly good. 7. Getting back to the car was easy. All in all, the trip is a lot more expensive than flying, However, it's not easy to take a car and 100kg or more of luggage with you on a plane, and our dog would be terrified as soon as the plane set off. So ... not an option. The ferry, however, is a remarkably efficient way of getting everything from A to B. Or, in our case, Athens to Karpathos.
"Ferry to Tilos"
Excellent
"Racist and inept "
We booked a ferry passing from Kos to Rhodes departing at 5:20. We left our accommodation at 4:00am and arrived at the port at 4:30 as the confirmation email had informed us that last check-in was 30 minutes prior to departure. When we arrived, the kiosk was shut and several other people were confused waiting outside. After waiting for an hour (5:30), staff members finally arrived to commence check in of passengers. It was evident that the staff members were informed of the delay and passengers were not. In total, we waited for an hour and a half for the ferry departure. However, most significant and disgusting was not the ineptitude of staff, but their discriminatory behaviour towards other passengers. Before we even got onto the ferry, a member of staff checked the passports of a select few individuals. All of these individuals were of ethnic minority and had clearly been racially profiled. One of the individuals raised this issue (rightly so) asking why only they had been requested to show their passports. The blatantly racist staff member denied race as a motivating factor despite not demanding passports from anyone white. This was absolutely foul for us to witness so it is unimaginable for those people who were unjustly discriminated against based on their ethnicity. As staff members representing a company that covers a broad spatial range, perhaps they should practice human decency to prevent social injustice in the future. Racial profiling is vulgar, inappropriate and at the very least illegal. Previous reviews on trip advisor have also reported racist behaviour from staff members so it is likely this is not a singular occurrence. Extremely disappointed and frankly disgusted
"Fast and Efficient"
Amazing how the Greeks load a ship so fast with people and cars and lorry’s and leave Ontime and nice smooth crossing and nice lunch in the buffet restaurant and plenty of deck space to sit out on.
"12:40 or 00:40"
Due to a confusion between am and pm, I miss the ferry and had to pay and wait for another one. My mistake maybe, but I’ve been told it arrives very often. 🤷🏻♂️
"Very good service and great ship !"
As a regular user of this service. It was as always very reliable.. clean and great value for money.
"Trio to kasteloruzo"
Vrry good
"Ferry postponed by 17 hours"
Due to a strike I was forced to buy a ferry journey with another company, in order to catch my flight home and get transport from a different port on Rhodes (Kameiros Skala) to get me to the airport This made the end of my holiday expensive and stressful
"A disaster this time"
After years of good service from direct ferries and Blue star we came to the port on Mon 5th August to catch our ferry from Syros to Piraeus at 16.00pm. We asked an official at the port and he showed us where to wait. It was very hot and the only places were in the sun. People tried to tell us but " it was all Greek to me" !!! excuse the pun. At 3.55pm, a fast ferry came in and we were told to RUN to catch it as the blue star had been delayed for 4 hours!!! we received no txt on either of our mobiles. `Th captain of the fast ferry then said NO to us and left the port leaving us exhausted and stranded. We had to hang around the port until 20.00pm and it left at 20.30pm. We had ordered a taxi from the hotel to meet us and that was a disaster too as they were therefore not there to meet us and we had to get another taxi and spend three days getting the firm to agree to give us our money back Altogether it would have been proper to have been txt us when the boat was delayed so we could change our tickets like everyone else did. It was a horrendous end to our wonderful holiday. very very upset and dissatisfied.
"What a pleasant surprise!"
We come to Greece every year and try different islands. We choose the ferries based on time convenience however after experiencing The bad service on sea jets and the impeccable blue star ferry amnesties, we will from now on always look for the blue star company. Directferries .com is very convenient to use
"Excellent Ferry Transfer"
Great ferry service to transfer between Greek Islands. Large comfortable ships, very clean and efficient with quick turnaround service at port, great value for money. Would definitely recommend.
"Great Trip"
Travelling between Piraeus and Naxos was fast, comfortable and very pleasant. The ferries are super clean with plenty of seating and facilities. Lots of staff on hand to provide guidance on where to go. Service was on time. Food was ok and reasonably priced.
"Perfect"
Very smooth, lots of room. Professional staff, choice of food and drinks. Very comfortable seating.
"Clean, comfortable and efficient."
Arrived in time, boarding straightforward, staff aware that we were older than most passengers and made it possible for us to leave our luggage on the vehicle deck. Very comfortable seats, toilets cleaned during our journey, arrived exact my on time.
"Very comfortable trip"
The boat was clean and there were plenty of seats and things to do during our crossing.
"Great ferry service"
On time, well managed and excellent trip to Paros
"Another great year of ferrying"
Thank you all at Direct ferries and Blue Star ferries or another great travel from Piraeus to Syros this July 2018. Easy booking, easy picking up of tickets at the port and boats reliable as usual
"Half price"
Children +10 pay full price for tickets If you book online you can not see that and I had to pay later the 50%
"Polite staff"
Roomy Polite staff Very efficient Clean Pleasant surroundings Expensive drinks though
"Scary experience for family "
We had our booking reference with us which did not mention anywhere that we needed to print tickets. The ship arrived and a chaotic frenzy ensued with cars driving through crowds of people. I presented my printed reference but we were not allowed on the ship. None of the staff could speak any English (apart from saying ‘tickets’ and pointing back towards the town. I had to sprint about 200m in searing heat into an office packed with English speaking tourists to try and get my tickets printed and make it back to the ship where my family were already on board. A very stressful experience for all involved.
"Our trip to Paros Blue Star Ferries"
During the '70's I did the hippy route through Europe ending up in Athens and then island hopping on the ferries ....it was a wonderful experience and I visited many islands. This year , 40 years later, I visited Athens again and had the choice of flying to Paros or getting the ferry. I took Blue Star Ferries which was definitely the best decision , I loved every minute it. Obviously the ferries are completely different !! We sat at the back on the top deck....and watched as dolphins swam and leapt over the ships wash . The choice of food was excellent as were all the facilities on board. Thank you Blue Star for bringing back some unforgettable experiences.
"Good option"
Super on time, which is th most important! Comfortable, clean enough, full of different spaces, incluiding in Economy class...
"Great & reliable service for a pleasant trip "
Excellent ferry service - the ship was clean and tidy in all areas, from deck to the reserved seating rooms. Took the cabin once and it was really comfy. The catering on board is of great quality - for very reasonable prices! Staff is also really helpful.
"Symi 2018"
A very comfortable and pleasant ferry crossing
"Best sailing trip"
Nice sailing. Very fast ship. I like the boat
"Blue Star works"
We have travelled with Blue Star many times, and this year from Rhodes to Symi and back. Everything is working great....Staff know what to do, comfort is good and you can buy drinks and food....overall not luxury....but it fine and it works. Be aware that schedule can be changed ! For us it was changed to 3-4 hours (before from what we booked) from Rhodes....lucky for us we landed on Rhodes 10.55....if we have bought flight tickets for the first boat around 8 pm.....landing let's say 3 pm....we would have missed the boat after the change in schedule. Then we should have spend a night in Rhodes + the hotel in Symi (which we had paid up front) would have been lost. We never experienced this before in the Greek Island, and I hope we were just unlucky this time :-) We were satisfied after all
"Ferry to Paros"
Our first experience of a ferry and it was great, smooth sailing and a comfortable ride, would recommend buying the airplane style seating for extra comfort on longer trips and confirmed seating. Lots of passengers, ourselves included, seemed to have issues finding their seats so better signage would be an improvement. Plus often other passengers were sitting in seats not allocated to them which can be difficult to communicate when there is a language barrier - staff could have been more helpful in these situations. Would recommend bringing your own food and drink on board as the catering provided was over priced.
"Very very good trip"
These ferries are on time, super efficient, modern.Smooth trip, plenty of space to chill out, lots of fast food cafeterias everywhere, safe high rails for the kids. The only problem we encountered was that although we had a lovely cabin on the Delos we stupidly took our luggage to the cabin and on arrival in Paros chaos..the lifts were used by everybody clambering to leave the vessel and had to use the stairs bumping our luggage down.On the return trip to Piraeus,we also had a cabin which by the way was really comfortable and really relaxing- we got on and left our luggage in the secure, garage facilities of the Patmos. Freedom, stress free trip, better organized disembarkation and problem solved.
"My trip to Paros"
All was very nice, enjoyed the trip and the service. The fairy was in a good condition. Only issue was with the booking as it is not very clear. I believe there should be more clarification to make us as clients understand the differences between the different levels of bookings.
"Naxos to Piraeus"
Comfortable, relaxed crossing. Time passed quickly. Good clean facilities. Nice cafeteria.
"Incredibly Dissatisfied "
After spending around 3 hours of my holiday on the phone to Direct Ferries, and spending 10€ in call expenses, imagine my surprise when not only could they not change a name on the ticket, but on arrival to the ferry port, the ticket could not be given as apparently a system error said it already had been. In response on the phone, yet again, direct ferries did nothing to remedy the situation or issue a refund. New tickets had to be bought at the ferry out of pocket by two travelling students. Extremely disappointed with this company.
"Poor customer care"
I had really high expectations of my trip. However, the ship being extremely clean and tidy with all facilities the staff was highly rude and inconsiderate. I was on a wheelchair due to a recent accident and while leaving the ship I was aksed to walk with my crutches. When I argued back only then I was given the wheelchair and was so carelessly taken care off with banging the wheelchair and my leg on suitcases. The person who took me saw me try and walk myself but wasn’t even considerate enough to offer help. My recent trip with Golden Star Ferries was comparatively way better in regard to staff courtesy.
"Very straight forward"
Ferry was on time and there was plenty of seating. We booked airseats but never used them as we moved around the ship following the sun. Only one slight negative would be the storage of large bags. Although stored down in the locked cargo hold, there is not enough secure racking so they just end up in a big pile. Just had to make sure we were one of the first in que to get our bags. On the whole definitely recommend.
"Review"
Great
"Excellent Value for Money"
It gives me pleasure to recommend Blue Star Ferries and the Blue Star Patmos in particular. The ferry left the Rhodes terminal on time and arrived at Symi on schedule. The staff were friendly and helpful and all the facilities on the boat were clean and in good order.
"Ferry Journey. Piraeus to Kalymnos"
Friendly, helpful crew, comfortable seating and plenty of open spaces for smokers. (As ever, tho', coffee etc, a tad on the expensive side!) Will travel with Direct Ferries again.
"Which Port In Rhodes?"
The blue star ferry Patmos is great ship with a great crew. There is plenty of space to suit your mood and the food and drink services are good quality at reasonable price. We were particularly impressed with crew man who demonstrated safeties on the rear top open air deck. We are so used to printing boarding cards on A4 at home to access our flights effortlessly (including Ageian Air). Do not think this is the case with any of the amazing Greek ferry companies we have been on this being our first experience. You need to exchange your A4 for a proper ticket at the company kiosk Rhodes port is Enormous so know your departure terminal It's obvious of course and you don't know what you don't know until your flicking though the paper work Sitting in your special seats on the 5:30 Easyjet Gatwick departure to Rhodes (Great flight by the way) So if your a first timer:- use a travel company and book your transfer taxi Direct ferries need impove process and location of boat in their paperwork. Once your know all this "it's plane sailing" Conclusion Blue star Ferries are top notch and would sail again and again The support with baggage on the boat was fab and you need to make more of how you care for our bags. Well Done Blue Star
"Enjoyable and pleasant"
My husband and I have recently returned from our holiday in Greece. We travelled from Pireaus to Lipsi and returned to Pireaus the following week. On our journey there, we enjoyed the luxuries of the ship, sampling the cuisine and relaxing in the many lounges available throughout. We made use of the WiFi to keep in touch with family and friends, and we spent time walking the different decks and experiencing the gorgeous views of the Aegean Sea. The crew were friendly, professional and helpful. They were available to answer any questions we had, and were comfortable in speaking English, which was one of our concerns prior to travel. Across from the purser's desk, we noticed a "live" map of Greece and the surrounding Aegean Sea, and we watched the red arrow marking our progress on our journey, much like we find in air travel. The ship's crew were mindful of safety as we boarded and disembarked the ship, and they tended to our comfort with personal requests for medicine to help with sea sickness as the waters were a bit rough at one point. Upon our return, we chose to hire a cabin for the night, and we found the facilities were top notch: clean, roomy, many amenities, full en suite bathroom, soft beds and pillows, desks and chairs, space for our luggage, and plenty of light. We slept in comfort for the evening and woke refreshed and ready for our next adventure. I couldn't be more pleased with our experience. I look forward to enjoying our next holiday to Greece with Blue Star Ferries.
"Don't book with direct ferrys"
I have no idea what this would have been like as I had to change my crossing. First ferries changed it too late for me to get the booking. I contacted them via email no help there. I cannot comment on Blue Star.
"Piraeus to Paros ferry"
The blue star ferry journey from Piraeus to Paros was very smooth and easy. Boarding was quick. Enough seats on deck and toilets were pretty clean. Would recommend this ferry trip.
"A great expeeience"
The ship was on time all the places were vero clean and the staff efficent. A wanderful trip!
"Short value for money ferry ride"
I travelled from Naxos to Paros, not a bad price, the agent at the port of Naxos charged me 1 euro each to print off 2 tickets, I used 2 other agents at Mykonos and Paros and they didn't charge anything, very busy service but efficient, I will use again
"all aboard!"
We decided to travel to Syros via Piraeus this year and overall it was a good experience. The ferries were clean though obviously very full and the return journey was very rough seas but we had fun out on the deck in the wind! It was easy to book online and also to pick up the tickets at the port. We will travel this way again next year.
"Thumbs up for the ferry option"
Yhe choices were to fly or take the ferry between Athens and Paros (and back) and I chose the ferry primarily because it cost less, deciding to sacrifice the extra time I would save by flying. We upgraded to business class on the ferry for 9€, and had a table in the front of the lounge on both trips. It was supercomfortable and relaxing, we could spread out, have a nap and a snack when we felt like it, easy and quick to get on and off, and on the return trip we arrived at our hotel before our friends who'd opted for flying. It's a no-brainer; I'll recommend the ferry every time.
"Great service!"
The online booking was easy and the ferries provided a good service
"Piresus-Paros return"
The journey betw Paros & Pireus both ways was very difficult and uncomfortable since there seemed to be more passengers than chairs
"Naxos"
X
"Wonderful !"
Belle traversée ! Luxueux !
"Good trip - but..."
Very nice large shop very well run and extremely clean considering so many people on board- only criticism is not of Blue StarFerries but of passengers - total chaos with getting suitcases on arrival and departure from the ship wow!
"A pleasant journey"
Came in a bit late but the winds had been strong for days. Very solid ship.
"LOVELY SMOOTH JOURNEY"
My first time travelling such a long journey on Blue Star Ferries. Highly recommended. The staff were lovely; the ship spotless and the food/wine delicious. I booked a solo cabin and it was bright, clean and comfortable.
"Paros to Piraeus"
The ship left and arrived on time and provided all amenities for a pleasant, carefree sailing. My main criticism would be that, unable to print off tickets in advance, there was no information on where to obtain them prior to the sailing. I luckily found someone who told me where the Blue Star office was, got them run off and managed to get back in time for the departure.
"Naxos Trip"
Ferry left bang on time and was very clean and well catered. Would recommend.
"A great way to travel between the Greek islands"
We have travelled on Blue Star ferries as foot passengers a number of times. We have found them to be excellent value for money, the ferries are ultra modern and offer great on-board facilities. The staff are helpful and the whole service very efficient. The catering is reasonable, but some items are a little pricey. The only negative is that most of the tables in the outside areas are rarely cleaned. We love to travel on the outside part so you can see other islands passing by and still enjoy the wonderful Greek sun, but most of the tables are dirty and/or sticky. We usually clean our own off to use. A minor point, and it would never stop us from using Blue Star, but it is irritating. Other than that, the ship is well maintained, and very clean in most other areas. They provide very comfortable, air-conditioned indoor seating and lots of space to relax.
"Blue Star Patmos"
A punctual and comfortable journey on a ferry with excellent amenities.
"Pleasant trip"
Very pleasant trip, first time on blue star and was very impressed would look forward in using them again.
"Ferry review"

"Better than plane"
Excellent journey; comfortable cabins, excellent dining room
"Athens to Kalymnos return"
We slept very well. Paid for wifi but found it was completely unuseable
"Perfect"
Very nice trip to Myckonos and Santorini. Ship was clean and organized.
"Go Business Class"
Definitely worth the extra cash. Great service.
"Five stars for Blue Star ferries"
We are annual travelers to the Greek Island of Syros and have always relied on Blue Star for our travel and connections. They are just what is needed, efficient, timely and ideal for the 4 hour sailing. It always gets the adventure off to a great start and reasonably priced as they are we will continue to use the service for the foreseeable future.
"A good trip"
Both ferries left on time and was very clean.
"The grand way is the best"
I love travelling in the grand old style of the Greek ferry. To me, Blue Star is the most recognisable. It may take longer than the current Sea Jets etc, but you really feel in touch with the sea and you can witness the individual island port arrivals and departures. It is also much cheaper than the Sea Jets.Going to Donoussa I travelled at night and so reserved seats which were very comfortable. Returning, we travelled during the day and so sat outside. Facilities were good and the toilet facilities were very clean. This is the second time I've travelled Blue Star and if time is not an issue then this is my preferred method of travel between the Islands. It won't be the last.
"pleasant and efficient"
excellent service - clean and spacious and run with efficiency to the minute.
"Blue Star Business class"
My husband and I have been on Blue Star ferries before. But 10 years have passed and we now have a 4 year old. I decided to book business class for our return trip from Naxos to Pireaus. It was a 5 hour trip. And it was an extra 10 euros for each of us. I'm glad we did as it was spacious and had terrific views as you are facing the front of the ship. The negatives for me were that some people I saw hogging whole sofas to themselves . The atmosphere was a bit stale. It was still very crowded in there but not as bad as the rest of the ship . If you are going to be on this boat for 5 hours then go for it. Otherwise do economy. Much more vibrant. The ferries themselves are lovely as usual.
"Great service"
We recently did three weeks island hopping in Greece, we booked through Direct Ferries for transportation they were brilliant, great turnaround, very efficient, really pleased with the service
"Great ride"
Superb service
"Blue Star Patmos"
An excellent crossing on a very comfortable ferry. Very efficient service.
"Going to Paros"
We travel every year from Scotland to Paros. On the way across we find its good to take a cabin if youte2on the early boat, you can board and then climb back into bed. Cabins are immaculate, staff are wonderful and show you to your room. This also gives you access to the lounge so no scrambling for a seat. Great service all in!
"Quick, cheap way to island-hop"
My partner and I used Direct Ferries three times to hop between Mykonos, Syros and Tinos in a week. Great service, ferries much better standard than expected and apart from one 10-minute delay, all on time. Paid 65 euros all in.
"Wonderful Experience!"
My family travelled between Piraeus and Mykonos with Blue Star Ferries in a Cabin. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole trip with all required facilities in the Cabin. Moreover, my daughter (who is highly sensitive to motion) had a pleasant trip and enjoyed the experience. Excellent Service!
"Pireau - Paros - Pireau August 2015"
The journey was excellent and the ship amazing.... Only flaw... Reserved seats booking: on board we discovered that to have the seat assign we had to pay €5 more. We refused because we alrady paid a lot. I will suggest to indicate on your website this.
"Fast and punctual"
Quiet trip, fast and punctual.
"Journey in the cyclades"
It is the third year that I'm going to Greece from Athens Pireau or Rafina. I always used Direct ferries service. I always like it starting from the easy and fast booking online. Ships are always punctual, enjoyable journeys. Clean and nice ships, kind staff.
"Like a cruise"
My experience was on a space deck seats. Reasonable price, eccelent quality. The ships are huge and even after a lot of people get on board you cannot really fell like it is full. Helpful and kind staff. Extrem punctuality! After this experience I will choose only Blue Star Ferries.
"Punctuality "
Punctual and comfortable trip. We did not have any setback
"be careful at the place"
Nice trip: really beautiful ships and perfect time. But even if I booked a reserved seat, on board the staff told me that I could only seats at the deck or cafè chairs (is it not a space deck?!).. Absurde!
"All perfect"
Perfect booking system, travelled on a new and well maintaneid ship
"ferry trips"
My return trip Piraeus to Paros went smoothly. We managed to find seats up on deck and enjoyed some sun on the way. The snack we purchased was tasty and the coffee good.
"Like the good old days"
A lot has happened with ferries in Greece since I visited in the nineties. Now, fast and sleek jet ferries have taken a lot of the market. They'll get you there, but you will be more or less locked to your seat for the entire voyage. The Blue Star line operates slower, but comfortable ferries. You can stroll three decks or choose to sit inside for the duration. So, if you prefer ferries like back in the day - only with better services - and don't care if the trip takes longer, the Blue Star is a good choice.
"Only yours ships, never again superfast"
Excellent service, to improve the self-service restaurant
"Great but very busy"
Ship was on time, but it was very busy and hence somewhat chaotic aboard. Safety instruction was very serious this time. Ship could be cleaner, but this was also due to the large crowds. Advance booking in the class you need is recommended during the high season!
"Seriousness and reliability"
Direct Ferries is a very reliable company. From now on I will allways use theri website for the next ferries purchases.
"Perfect!"
The trip, the timing, the ferry, the service....all perfect!
"Very good"
The booking made with Direct Ferries worked absolutely perfect. I picked up the tickets on the ticket office at the port. No problems.
"Ferry to Paros"
A very smooth and comfortable journey both ways. Excellent seating. I had moussaka for lunch in the restaurant and it was delicious. Crew were mainly polite and helpful. I have used this ship before and would definitely recommend.
"Excellent "
Ferry on time and pleasant journey.
"Trip"
We are completely satisfied. Ferry on time, efficient and well organised.
"Good and easy"
We had prebooked seats which was luxurious and comfortable, but there seemed to be plenty of space.
"Better than the plane"
"Excellent"
Ferry on time and pleasant journey.
"Poor sailor"
Nervous sea traveller. Booked business class and was very impressed with facilities.i could put my feet up in quiet atmosphere when the sea was rough. The experience has changed my thoughts for the better on sailing.the only downside was the crush on disembarking especially with a suitcase to carry. Thank for a pleasant trip Blue Star.
"Ferry ride from Piraeus to Syros"
Pleasant & comfortable & safe Ferry Ride from Piraeus to Syros...
"Outstanding"
A delightful journey - the ferry was immaculately clean, the staff were helpful and attentive and we were on time. All we could have expected - very impressed indeed.
"Fabolous!"
We had a very comfortable nad FAST journey from Mytilene to Chios with Blue Star Ferries. The experience was so good that we are planning to plan another several step trip between Ionian Islands with Blue Star Ferries.
