The Cruise Barcelona and her sister ship the Cruise Roma are a totally new concept of ferry offering facilities normally only found onboard a luxurious cruise ship. There’s a huge selection of cabin accommodation, a choice of restaurants and bars, a swimming pool, casino, wellness centre, videogames area, children’s playroom and a Boutique.
The Cruise Barcelona ferry features 411 air conditioned en-suite cabins with a choice of inside and sea view (outside) and around 70 luxurious suites. If you’d prefer not to book a cabin then there’s a choice of around 150 reclining seats.
The Cruise Barcelona has no shortage of places to eat and drink. Choose from the wonderful menu in the à la carte restaurant or help yourself in the buffet style self-service cafeteria. For a quick snack there’s also a fast food lounge. Drinks are served in Smaila’s bar or for same late evening entertainment head to the night club. During the summer months you can also have a drink in the swimming pool bar.
The ship contains a boutique which sells many high street brands as well as magazines, confectionary and travel essentials.
In addition, you’ll find a Swimming pool with sundeck, a Casino with black jack and roulette tables and a wellness centre featuring a sauna, Turkish bath, Jacuzzi, relaxation area, massage halls, beauty treatments, solarium and a gymnasium. If you want to surf while you sail then head over to the internet cafe.
Children are well catered for onboard the Cruise Barcelona which features a dedicated child’s play area to keep them occupied during the trip. There’s also a video games corner for the older children.

"They put the grim in Grimaldi"
The general vibe of the ship is like a 1 or 2 star hostel. Finding your cabin is particularly challenging because of the signage and layout. To add insult to injury, when we finally found the cabin, a notice on the door said to go back to reception to get another room (equivalent, not an upgrade). It took us 30 minutes hauling our luggage up and down the ship and two tiny escalators to finally get into a cabin. Then because we took a nap from exhaustion unfortunately we missed the three course restaurant dinner we prepaid for because they closed at 10. I did ask two staff members near the restaurant beforehand what time the restaurant opened and closed, they said till "20 hours till something - possibly (ineligible) thirty". We went to reception to complain, the manager said "sorry if you were given wrong information, but there were announcements prior." And this touches the other major issue on board: the staff English is generally terrible with one or two exceptions. Unfortunately the guy doing the announcements isn't one of those exceptions. The accents are too strong and the phrasing too foreign. If you're competent in Spanish or Italian, you'd do well to rely on that. Self service breakfast also closed at 10am, so be careful if you like to sleep in. I strongly suggest you DO NOT PREPAY for any extra on board and ring reception as soon as you get into your cabin to ask for opening and closing times. In case you don't understand for sure what they say, confirm the times in another language, Spanish or Italian, if you can. This is not a cruise line, this is a ferry line - it's a practical service for lorry drivers. They don't really care if they piss off the customers or not, so set your expectations accordingly.
"Trip to Italy"
The first impression sets the tone: 1. Embarking on the ship was unsafe and unorganized. People arriving on the charter bus to get on the ship were crossing the pathway of the cars driving on to ship. 2. The bathroom for room 8086 was dirty. The shower was/is filthy. 3. The booking for the ship was overbooked, causing people to sleep in general and public areas. 4. In the public areas the bathroom doors are locked causing the passengers without rooms to suffer or use other means to relieve themselves. 5. The restaurant times are not user friendly. The Bar is staff with only one person to work it. Return trip: 25 Aug 2023 The trip was delayed for some reason departed around 1:20 am, instead of 23:59. The customers should have received a courtesy email. The telephone in the cabin doesn’t work and air conditioner is hard to turn off.
"Dirty & Uncomfortable but does the job"
Travelled from Civitavecchia to Barcelona with Grimaldi ferry, it was very run down and dirty. Toliets were so unclean and never had toliet paper (definitely were not cleaned for the entire 21 hour journey. Not many comfortable places to rest and the food looked expensive & bad. Ultimately it was fine for us because it was cheap & it was an A to B situation but if I was going on holiday I would have been disappointed - save yourself the Hassel and fly.
"Really dirty "
The journey was ok. But everything was so dirty on the ship. The shit was everywhere in the toilet: on the wall, doors and the floor. Maybe the toilets in the private cabin was clean. We paid 20 euros extra for reserved seats in a room with 144 seats and 15 people. It was a shame that it is even an option to get reserved seats. Have not used any catering
"satisfied"
i was happy
"Verry bad day "
Verry dirty and the staff is verry unfriendly. My jacket got stolen and nobody smiles
"Rome to Barcelona "
Get the gate opening times correct on the ticket
"Good Value"
Ship lovely. Rooms great. Ate in restaurant which was good. Lots of room for parking. Set off late, arrived very late. Shambles at the end with free for all driving off not good.
"No cruise Buth a Ferry Itali-barcelona"
the italy-barcelona crossing with grimaldi lines is definitely not a cruise. it is a ferry with faded glory full of boozing drivers. there is a lot close on board and the ship is downright dirty.
"Barcelona Cruise"
Boarding was chaotic with staff shouting loudly at drivers but no two saying the same thing! Our cabin was roomy enough although you had to be a contortionist to use the shower with getting wrapped up in the curtain. Meals were poor with no indication of what was included in the prepaid options. A couple of prostitutes plying their trade to the many truck drivers albeit fairly discreetly we did come upon them agreeing a price in a stairwell. Getting off the ferry was a complete free for all with people reversing down ramps and no staff in sight. Slept well though
"Leaves a lot to be desired"
The grimaldi crossing was a reasonable price. The cabin we stayed in was dirty on the floor and bedside cabinet. The sheets were clean but had holes in one. Dogs are allowed everywhere and there was several times when there was dog poo on the top outside deck. This was cleared up eventually. Dogs peed up bins chairs and wherever they wanted out on thisdeck. I think this is totally unacceptable. I booked the standard self service lunch €15 which saved quite a lot if you just bought from the menu on the day, however, I would consider the food was poor and not worth €10 anyway. The boarding ay Barcelona was somewhat chaotic. The ships were ontime.
"Trip Barcelone Sardaigne and back"
Confortable cabins for the night. Some delays on the return but the company offered breakfast and reduce price for dinner as compensation. It was appreciated
"NEED A LOT IMPROVEMENT "
I was Extremely disappointed with the fact that I need to use the washroom about 6 times and I couldn’t was my hands with SOAP.!!!!! Unreal. After using the washroom I NEED to wash my Hands.!!! Also the Garbage cans where overflowing with garbage ( few hours after we left porto Torres) That was my first experience with your company. I hope in the future you can make sure that this Issues are Resolved. Thank you
"Barcalona cruises"
BAD
"Barcelona to Porto Torres"
The ship is in need of notable maintenance. There were no menu tariff displayed for food and drink. While the main choice was ok, the chips (only other accompaniment available) had been laying on the hot plate for some time & was tired and cold.
"Good enough!!"
Nothing to say, but the water in the bathrooms is only hot, never cold water!!
"Grimaldi should protect their costumers at their parking in Barcelona"
At the parking next to the ticket office our bag was stolen from our car by very professional criminals with two cars. We think that Grimaldi should do more to protect their customers.
"A let down!"
The port of Civitevechia was totally chaotic. Staff on board weren't particularly friendly. Toilets on board were dirty and in a shabby condition. Food wasn't good.. about as far from a mini cruise as is imaginable. However, the price was good, the saying was smooth and we left and arrived on time. Even with all the minus points I would use this route againnd in
"The cabins"
The cabins were dirty sheets hole and stained floor dirty did not like walking barefoot sink dirty, one towel was wet but as we found difficulty in finding the room and it was 10pm at night just wanted to lie down.rest of the ship was clean and staff helpful.
"wakeup too early"
wakeup too early more than 2 hours before arrival, delayed boarding on the ship
"Insalubridad "
"VERY DIRTY!!! "
The cabin inside was VERY DIRTY!!! there was dirt everywhere! didn't wash the floor! It looks like the bed has just been changed! We have three person in cabin but towels only one! Window - dirty!!! Not recommend this line! :( Sorry …
"Disgusting "
Awful, dirty, disgusting.
"Very dirty public spaces "
Very bad
"Grimaldi with emphasis on GRIM"
The outside of the boat was excellent and the lounges clean and huge but there were major problems with the toilets! Lots of then blocked and complaints from passengers. The main bar was closed, the self service dining room not operating! On the whole it looked like a ship on the way to bankruptcy with lots of maintenance not carried out. I would avoid this trip and this shipping line if possible.
"Civitavecchia to Barcelona Ferry "
Compared to other ferry companies, Grimaldi are poor. Loading was late and just as were about to drive aboard, we were informed only the driver could stay in the vehicle meaning my wife and child had get out and board by foot and I had to carry our luggage from the car deck on my own. Nobody to direct you to you cabin. Woken up continually during the night by repeated announcements for the intermediate stop and forced to vacate cabins (so they could clean them) two hours before docking. Getting off the ship was horrendous. All cars on our deck had been driven in up to a bulkhead, so we all (at last a hundred plus cars) had to reverse!! off until sufficient had got away so we could three point turn around. Nightmare. Will never use again. We recently traveled from Santander with Brittany Ferries who are brilliant in comparison
"Low cost"
I booked through directferries and didn't had options to select cabin. It put like this: accommodation/siting which means on the final ticket a chair. We tried to contact the Grimaldi barcelona to change to cabin and it was imposibil. When we arrive to do the check in, the cabin was sold out. Lot of people sleep on the sofa where the bar because i suposse that they didn't booked cabin or chair.lounge was. They have a super small pool for adults and another one for kids that was unfunctional. A super large que for the self catering but the only thing that I can say is good was the taste of the food. The toilet needs improuvment and cleaning. Totally the lowest standards. I had better experience with Dfd or P&Q from Dover to calais
"Filthy Toilets"
I still don't k ow how to book a cabin. Bored purser was too uninterested to do anything other than shake her head. Ferry drops you in the middle of a non polution zone somyou get fined driving away from the port. Food was dreadful and the toilets were filthy.
"Grimaldi lines retitled Comedy Ferries "
We sailed from Barcelona to Civitiavechia on Tuesday19th on Cruise Barcelona and back on Tuesday 26th on Cruise Roma.
"Cabin cleanliness "
There were no crew to show the passengers their cabin and the crew were congregating on one deck with people getting lost , the bathroom didn’t have any towels the toilet didn’t work , the sink tap hadn’t been cleaned for years , no toilet paper, what else can I say when Grimaldi has got the monopoly
"Nice enough but Really Low on Staff"
As for punctuality and value for money, really, really good. The ship left and arrived on time and considering we took a car, had a cabin both ways, for two people, 240 euros TOTAL i think was very good value for money. The ship was clean and although the cabin is mall with the smallest shower in the world, it was nice enough for what we required. The Bad - Firstly, the sheer lack of staff. You queue for an hour or more for a simple coffee. Finding your room is almost impossible and you find it due to sheer luck, rather than skill. Some simple, ' rooms 100 - 150, this way' signs would be good. But no. There are signs that say rooms 100 to 150, 150, 200' then you walk along and your room is not there, as you enter a middle section that say's 'rooms 458 - 528' or something. Its an absolute mess and there are NO staff to help. Literally, none. They say ' go to reception' except that is harder to find than the rooms! So frustrating. Ok, The Food. You can't call the self service ' food' Its expensive and absolutelly AWFUL! 50 euros ! As i walked along the food counter everyone in front of me received two pieces of chicken, but when it came to me, i only received one. When i asked why, they said it was the last piece. But i was still charged for the full portion. Bad point No.3. The announcements! They announce something then literally every 5 minutes, they keep announcing! Not great when tryingt to have a siesta! Bad point No. whatever. Smoking! There is a big INDOOR room, right next to the self service 'restaurant' where it's full of people smoking, with the doors wide open and it STINKS! Why allow smoking on a ferry? Also, in the bar on the top floor, under the roof where most people sit, again, smoking and it STINKS! So i couldn't sit up there as it was so smokey. Awful! Finally, checking in on the return. ZERO communication. We arrive at the counter over two hours early only to be told that you just sit in your car and you check in as you enter the ship. So we did that. Then we received a sticker on the car to say we've checked in, but we still have no cabin key. Again, no communication on this. So eventually, after two hoirs waiting doing nothing, we then drive onto the ship only them to have to queue for an hour to receive our key for the cabin! They could have done thos at check in! Absolutely ridiculous.l Finally. The 'entertainment' is basically the 'reggaton club' blasting out music while loads of creepy men who teach the classes, perv over the women. Summary - Cheap travel which i wouls use again but more staff is required and much, much better communication is needed as it's absolutely terrible.
"Late Departure"
We were sailing on 6th May at 00.30, bearing this in mind we were prepared for a late night. At lunch time on 5th May we were informed it was going to be delayed until 01.30 which you accept and can't be helped. What we had problems with was it being delayed further and no one letting us know even the ground staff didn't know and were not being told anything. We finally started loading just after 02.00 by which time we were very tiered and I'll admit quite grumpy. Then to top it off when we got down for breakfast which we had paid for, we were told they'd stopped serving and we could have a coffee, water and croissant from the café So all in all it was a relief to get on dry land albeit 3 hours late.
"Decline of service"
The facilities were awful, No lounge area or access to health centre, masks were not being worn and no one tried to inforce it. Dogs were in the cafeteria despite signs saying that they were not allowed. Ship arrived 2 hours late then it took nearly an hour to disembark
"Health and safety"
As a former health and safety officer in a ship yard
"Pretty poor really"
More like a 3rd world operation. Paid top dollar for Owner's stateroom. Did not get value for money. Shower didn't work, no tea or coffee. Half the jacuzzi wasn't working. Sink sprayed water everywhere. Staff were neutral neither friendly nor unfriendly. Ship was over 3 hours late in departing. Check-in staff were inefficient and sullen. Never left cabin so cant comment on facilities or catering.
"Cruise Barcelona"
JUST PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Good services"
Good services.
"Disgusting "
It was terrible, a longer review is pending shortly to post on all social media outlets. Has definitely ruined our vacation up to this point. Unfortunately i would rather give staff competence a 0 star but you will not let me. I would suggest you stop taking bookings for Grimaldi Lines.
"Civitavecchia to Barcelona "
Brilliant, puts Brittany Ferries to shame. They could learn from Gramaldi Lines
"Great experience "
I’m not sure if the ship has been refurbished but some of the bad reviews are way out. The ship was spotless, staff friendly and design modern. Only problem I had was locating where to go in the port as directions to the ferry were very poor.
"Cruise Barcelona"
It is very difficult to navigate your way around the ship as the signs are all but non existent. Food was poor in the main restaurant, hamburgers were only just warm at best too. Rubbish bins were overflowing in many areas with waste paper and plastic blowing overboard. Still a lot to get right considering the resources and experience of the company.
"Aggressive miserable unhelpful staff"
I don’t normally give reviews but the people that work on this boat are clearly not happy they are aggressive and quite frankly rude maybe one of the managers should que up as a prospective customer and experience them shouting at people as they board the boat!!
"Holiday in the sun"
Brilliant. For £50 I have had a grand experience relaxing in preparation for my holiday.
"Ok for the price "
Ship was a little grubby, food average, and the big issue for me was the staff had no manners. And the WiFi sucked.
"The Med by Ferry"
Loved the pace, the scenery, the ports,,,
"one night on board."
No toilet paper, wifi is so expensive that we have to go through without, staff so and so ...bit rude, travel time mismatching at the arrival. Good food, nice rooms and longes...
"Never again "
Was make quite plain that you had to be there 2 hours before sailing at 7am. It was in total darkness and no indication where to go! Some staff turned up about 5.30 but still no idea if we where at the correct place. Eventually we went through a gate at about 6.30. The ferry eventually arrived but there seemed to be no organisation of getting you on. By the way this was at 8am, we was 1hr 30 mins late leaving! We went to the desk to get the room key. The guy looked at the documentation that said we had a dog and he saw that we had a dog but never mentioned a word about what to do with her. We just put her in the cabin with us. Nobody seemed to bother about anything on board. When I asked at reception what time we would get to Barcelona I was told maybe 10.30 ( we were due in at 7pm). It was a rough crossing so the bars closed down. At about 9pm my husband went down to reception to ask again about arrival time. There were 3 people on the desk and they were all not helpful again saying maybe 10.30 or 11. We did eventually get off at 10.45 but getting out of the car parking space was then again a free for all. Never again will I use this company.
"Public toilets system should be revised"
I have been travelling with Grimaldi several times now. It was a very good value/money ratio experience. I spent a relaxing day at the pool instead of stressful and crowded airport travel day. The staff was very nice, drinks great. Everything is "a holiday" until you have to go to the toilet. I know it is mostly "us" egoistic and careless passengers who are leaving the toilet a mess but I would be very greatful if something could be done to not allow the careless idiots ruin the day of everybody else.
"Toilets"
It looked like they hadn't cleaned the toilets before we got on and once going they constantly ran out of toilet paper.they were really dirty and not nice to have to use...there wasn't much food choice and when the restaurant was only open it was a limited time.
"Shortcut to Spain"
We took this car ferry from Porto Torres, Sardinia to Barcelona, Spain to save the long drive around the coast of Italy & France. We arrived at the port at 05:00 as instructed to catch the 07:00 Sailing. As with all things Italian registering for the ferry was chaotic with no one following lines and everyone trying to be first. At about 06:00 someone checked our Direct Ferries ticket and we were waved through. More chaos as passengers bailed out of cars and rushed on board to save the best seats. We were amazed that no one got run over. Eventually we drove on and had to guess where we went. Up ramps to deck 5 and found some more cars. On board all comfortable seats were taken. Sailed about 30 mins late. A 12 hour crossing with crowded boat and music playing in all a areas made quite an impression. Passengers layed out across several seats to sleep meant no free seats throughout the entire crossing. Arrived 40 minutes late and unloading was as chaotic as loading. Still it was quicker than driving all the way. What could Grimaldi do to improve things. Copy Dover use lanes and have more staff to direct traffic both before loading and on the ship. Provide more comfortable single seats and get the crew to stop passengers laying all over the seats on board. We saw one young couple pull several seats around them for their bags and lay across others under sleeping bags. They actually took up 7 seats for 2 people. This was happening all over the ferry. Turn the constant music off. That said it was a smooth crossing and we felt good value for the money.
"Ferry across the med!"
The booking process, getting on board etc was very good. Getting off was more problematic, slightly organised chaos.. toilets needed more cleaning, more regularly. 2 ladies toilets were blocked within an hour of sailing.. Also, too many people use too many seats. We watched a family of 3 adults +1 child keep 4 sofas to themselves throughout the 12 hr trip! Staff should play a major role here.
"Bad experience "
Really bad experience. We received a few hours before departure a message that the ship has 2 hours of delay. The departure there is a long line of waiting , nobody really takes care of informing passengers what they should do. You wait under the sun several hours to get on the ship; once you are on the ship there is a general confusion, total chaos. At night you see whirlpools of trash on the top floor , trash flying around and getting into the sea, nobody caring about it. Disappointed and ashamed I started collecting it, while the staff didn’t do anything to help. At the arrival we had to wait for more then an hour blocked in the car. Nobody was there to help, and guide people to get out of the parking . This has been an incredibly frustrating experience. Never again, expensive and bad service
"Horrible service"
My partner and I arrived to the port nice and earlt as usual for a cruise. To be served by a lady who gave us our tickets and then couldnt stop laughing, to then turn to her collegue wgo tells us that the cruise has been delayed two hours from 11pm back to 1am. Im not so sure why this was so funny.. However this wasnt the worse part. I booked a dinner which i thought was for the 30th, the night we get off the ship, so i ask reception if they know when and where it is. He began to ask me why we didnt get it on the 29th and i said we got on the ship at 11pm and nothing wss ope until 1am i didnt think that was the dinner i booked. He then said we shouldve gone to go get lunch then and i said but we booked dinner? He started to get very aggressive and said we shouldve got lunch or the dinner and its too late now. He did not help at all and was so rude, so my partner and I the had to spend more money to buy a toastie because no restaurant was ever open.
"A trip from Hell"
My wife and I a few years ago sailed with Grimaldi from Genoa to Palermo-an amazing and wonderful experience. Hence we looked forward to sailing from Barcelona to Civitavecchia. What a difference. We were originaly lined up in the parking lane for pre loading and as we walked to the terminal restaurant were told everything had changed and we had to return and move the car to a new area. Loading was late and not the time advised which resulted in us arriving at Civitavevdcchia at least 1.5 hours late-not good. We had cabin 9050 which needed renovation and was not very clean. I do not think the cabin had been vacuumed for a very long time-hairs were on the bathroom floor and a long hair in the shower(no showercap). As we left the cabin the next day, the cleaner arrived and simply wiped off the bathroom floor wash basin and perhaps the toilet with a damp towel. The restaurant was good with excellent service and the food was really very good. The cafeteria was a nightmare with people dressed like refugees, a long line of people etc. We tried one of the small bars and found it follwed the Russian system of lining up to pay for the order and then joining another line to collect the order. There was only one cashier which led to a fairly long wait. As we were late and advised arrival would be 21:30hrs we hoped the restaurant would be open-it was closed. We went to the bar on deck 11and the only thing to eat was some disgusting looking pizza-again line up to pay for it in one place then collect it (but no one was there to serve it so we waited until someone arrived). The passengers were very noisy and some, like some of the crew quite rude. One very nice crew member was Christopher who assisted us with our luggage as I am recovering from a hip operation. A trip from hell-we wonder what our next sailing on Tuesday will be like !!
"Well equipped ship but and average experience overall "
The Ship was bigger than we thought including a spa and gym . The only thing wa the gym wasn't open early enough to go before breakfast . The boarding and disembarking was a bit disorganised. The cabin was good and clean , we had a good sleep apart from the rough seas in the morning. The pool was not filled and didn't look like it had been used for a long time . The wifi was expensive. We prepaid our breakfast and lunches the self service cafeteria- it was awful and virtually no choice and no flexibility on the items you could have for the included price - a waste of money. I would advise you to take your own food - lots of people did - and get coffee / drinks from the snack bar . Many people were taking up the seating / sleeping on the couches and in common areas so I wouldn't recommend booking this journey without a cabin . The boat was late by 2.5 hrs and we were made to leave our cabins early with no adjustment made for the late arrival which meant the common areas were very crowded.
"Noisy."
Found the recliner chairs very uncomfortable and a lot in bad repair. Also the area was used by staff and other passengers throughout the night making it impossible to sleep.
"Grimaldi ferry trip Civitavecchia to Porto Torres "
Booked a cabin this time so had a proper bed But the ship wasn’t as good as the tremerria one - much scruffier and the cabin felt dirty and run down. Plus there was a lot of noise in the passageway at night and early in the morning Check in was tedious- they kept us waiting a long time and I was unnecessarily sent back to the reception area to get a print out when my e- ticket should’ve been fine We were late arriving - actually a bonus because of bad weather
"A win win situation for us !!"
Having decided to do a bit of a roadtrip to Italy with our car, we travelled from the UK and drove around Italy. We live in Catalunya part of the year and we had been told about the ferry crossings from Italy to Barcelona. We looked into this and compared prices and reviews and to be honest we weighed up the pro's and con's and knew that for us it would be a win win situation as it would save us from driving from Rome to Barcelona, staying at hotels a long the way, paying out for expensive meals, expensive tolls on the motorways, fuel as well as wear and tear on our new car. Reviews are generally down to people's expectations and whether they had been met or not. We therefore decided that the 20 hour crossing with an outside cabin was the only way for us to travel to Barcelona and feel refreshed upon arrival to drive to our house which is a two hour drive from Barcelona. The check in can appear chaotic, however, it's really quite straight forward in Civitavecchia, having parked our car in the line, we made our way to the main Terminal and went to Grimaldi Lines to check in. We were presented with electronic tickets for our car, and keycards for our cabin. When boarding commenced we parked our car where shown and immeidately went to our cabin. We really didn't know what to expect, however, having booked the 4 berth outside cabin for the two of us, upon gaining access to our cabin, we were pleasantly surprised how spacious it was. We immediately knew that the crossing was going to be a comfortable one. We went off to sleep, pretty much immediately as we were due to set sail at 23h00. The cabin was quiet, well soundproofed and we were obviously located away from the engines and had very little trouble in sleeping. We were so pleased that we chose an outside cabin for the journey. We both slept so well and woke up to daylight as we were approaching the Port of Torres, Sardinia. We chose to take our own food and there were plug points in the cabin to plug in a travel kettle and to charge mobile equipment such as tablets and mobiles. We didn't use the ferry's wifi and therefore, we were without service for most of the journey which was somewhat refreshing. The ensuite facilities within the cabin were clean and spacious. We did spend most of the journey in our cabin, which was fine for us to read and listen to music. We wandered around the spacious ferry a few times and the outside deck facililties which included a bar/ snack bar were also good. We had coffees, soft drinks and wine, all which we would consider to be reasonably priced. We were fortunate that the crossing was smooth and the sun was shining. We took advantage of the sun and chilled out on deck for a few hours. The docking in Barcelona went smooth for us and we docked and disembarked in our car within 25 minutes. ( Remember, this was early May) All in all, we could not fault the facilities and services onboard, we will certainly consider using the services of Grimaldi again, in the future, should we return to Italy as it saved us from all of the stresses and expenses of driving from Italy to Spain via France.
"Got us there, but it was a very noisy crossing"
The ship had huge numbers of young people on board who kept us up most of the night. On the return leg during the day, we were stopped form entering parts of the ship due to them being reserved for school groups. Perhaps Grimaldi Lineneeds to provide quiet areas for those of us wanting a quiet crossing in the future.
"Disappointed Customers"
Whilst I find Grimaldi lines excellent to travel with , our long weekend was ruined by the lack of information. We were not informed by Direct Ferries that the Friday sailing to Civitavecchia always goes via Porto Torres (Sardinia) adding approximately 8hours to our journey causing us to miss an important dinner function with all of our friends . Being retired and living in Spain we would have taken the Thursday sailing had we been given the correct information and travel details . The first thing we knew about this diversion was a Tannoy announcement which came as quite a surprise . In this technological age where information is easily available why were we not informed . Come on Direct Ferries get your act together !!!!!
"Stressed"
The email from Direct Ferries book system was very poor. It need the GPS coordinates, a map or a link to the service provider of where to find the terminal. Also the reporting time was inaccurate and vague leaving us at a deserted terminal well before the correct reporting time unsure if we were at the correct terminal. The ship, staff and sailing whete a pleasure
"Very dis"
Very disappointed. The boat was late in both directions, the loading is chaotic, we were tipped out of our cabin an hour before docking so that it could be cleaned for the return trip, we waited over half an hour in a queue on the outward sailing 'Cruise Roma) for our evening meal. NEVER book meals in advance - you are told what you can and cannot eat out of what you can see. Wifi expensive and unobtainable on return trip. If you are used to P&O standards, avoid this at all costs!
"Beautiful with a few suggestions for improvement"
The cabins were comfortable and the ship offered many services. We believe that good drinking water should be available at a more reasonable cost and not only available in very small plastic bottles on board. I realize that this is not the ship line itself, but they are obviously collaborating with tel. services to take advantage of people. Customers should be warned as soon as they board that they need to close down their cell phones if they do not want to be robbed by their servers. When we arrived late in the evening in Italy we were unable to make even a telephone call because we had not only used up the credit we had, but we had gone under (euro 28.00 was taken) by trying to download emails a couple of times before turning off the communication data. Also, it would help to have another elevator or better instructions about how to get from and to the garages.
"Wonder full"
Dream come true
"Bad experience"
I have been on other cruises (booked via Directferries.com) but this by far worst experience. Firstly, the cruise was wobbling most of the time and me and my wife had to spend most of the time outside of our cabin. Very less number of dining options (if compare with viking line or eckero line) and those too were expensive. I wouldn't travel with Grimaldi Lines again.
"Easy way from Italy to Spain"
The voyage was good once we left Civitavecchia although 90 minutes late but we were offered a light snack to compensate or we could leave & catch a ferry next day (though how to get the car off the ship!!!) - maybe I misunderstood the message. Arrived later than scheduled next day but not a problem as we were staying in Barcelona before moving on next day. It was highly amusing watching the Italian men directing the cars & lorries,on board - everything is a big performance with them.
"Civitavecchia to Barcelona ferry"
Signage in the actual port of Civitavecchio needs to be a LOT better!!! Drove straight through & back on to the motorway as no signs to guide you through the barriers or direct you to where you’re supposed to go. Also very difficult to get to check in building. Again no signs directing you on how to get to it or indeed telling you the actual building itself is the check in building. The whole place looks as though it’s still under construction with bollards everywhere. Needs to be massively more organised!!! Having said that, despite the ferry disembarking an hour & a half late! (Probably waiting for all the lost customers!!) The ship itself was fine. No frills cabins. Small but clean. Provided with towels & shower gel. Staff very friendly & helpful.
"Rome Barcelona Ferry"
Excellent ship and facilities. Pre boarding & boarding at Civitavecchia could be much improved by installing multi lingual signs for parking. Staff were exceptionally helpful but the process of getting tickets is laborious and inefficient... A similar trip on Brittany Ferries illustrated the benefits of clear signs and electronic vehicle recognition.
"Grimaldi line to Civitavecchia"
We were two passengers with a car. We thought the marshalling process was poor. An information board would have helped as there were at least two ferries leaving that evening. Also, we pre booked our meals, two breakfasts, lunches and dinner, not realising there never would be a possibility of dinner. The dining room was closed prior to landing! Otherwise OK
"Grimaldi Lines"
Good experience!!!
"Pretty terrible."
I mean, it's just bad, like every Mediterranean ferry.
"Painful Experience!"
The food was dreadful, the ship's crew unhelpful and delays, delays, delays..... The outbound ferry was delayed by 4 hours which meant arrival at Civitavecchia at midnight; we therefore had to incur additional accommodation expenses as it was not possible to continue our journey to Rome at that hour. The Grimaldi information desk on-board advised that we should sleep over in the ferry terminal until the morning. What sort of safe, secure and responsible operator is that, especially when travelling with young children!! Not even a word of apology! The inbound ferry was delayed by 90 minutes. We sat outside Barcelona port for about an hour!! There was total confusion over the hours the self-service restaurant was going to be open (I had pre-booked breakfast and dinner). We lost out on having a meal prior to arriving in Barcelona as we were advised that our dinner had to be taken the night before prior to departure. Nonsense! In any case, the food was minimal and dreadful! Furthermore, from departure to arrival the public areas were full of smelly bodies lying around, sleeping on sofas, floors, blow up beds, sun loungers, chairs etc. Awful! Overall terribly disappointed and will never look to travel by this form of transport again! It felt like being on a prison ship for 20 hours!
"Great Cabin"
Our cabin was brilliant (junior cabin I think). The boat left late and arrIced 3.5 hours after our ticket displayed yet no communication was made. Overall communication was exceptionally poor from boarding through to disembarking. We had breakfast onboard and was ok. If we had to go again, it would only be as a night crossing, would take food with us and expect significant delays.
"Never travel from Barcelona"
We were e mailed mid afternoon to say that our departure was delayed by 4 hours which we would be leaving at around 2 in the morning . These things happen but the terminal at Barcelona had no information about what was going on and not like other ferry ports there was no organised parking. There were 2 ships loading and it was chaos with vehicles parked in the middle of the road and police everywhere and not an English speaker in sight! I would never use this location again, there are too many good and well organised ones to choose from. As far as the ship was concerned by the time we got on we went straight to bed , had a coffee in the morning and got off, all ok.
"Chaotic and hopeless port staff"
We were directed to the wrong ferry - the port staff who checked our ticket waved us on.We ended up missing our ferry and had to find somewhere to stay for the night - at 02:30. This should all be better organised - it was a bit better when we went back for the ferry two days later as there was only one sailing - but it was still pretty confused and slow. We were supposed to travel on Cruise Barcelona but ended up sailing on the Cruise Roma - two days late The ship was OK, a bit tired and youngsters were noisy but isn't that always the case!
"Embarcation a farce, journey excellent"
Getting on the ship was a farce. We were told to be there two hours in advance, which was unecessary, moved three times on the quayside and it generally looked like no one knew what was going on. Eventally got on the ship which left two hours late. While on board everything was excellent and the food was exemplary.
"Nice cabin"
Very nice cabin , very nice ferry trip , got delayed for two hours because of traffic but everything was very nice , the crew as well has been very nice and helpful .
"Thoroughly enjoyable experience !😊"
Apart from a 2 hour delay from boarding to disembarking was great . The cabin was clean and well catered for . Staff were very friendly and helpful and the facilities on board were good . Top value for money !
"Bad attention from the reception manager "
By mistake I didn´t book a cabin to sleep, so tried to do it in the reception once I was on board. One receptionist told me to wait so they can check the availability and then I had to pay the difference. So that I did... suddenly the "manager" (an italian lady I think) started shouting to the other receptionists and had an argument with a client. All this in front of me and another people. Because of that, she was in so bad mood that without checking the availability just told me that they DIDN´T have any space. I really needed to rest and I couldn´t. I think that people like her can destroy the reputation of a good company like Gimaldi. A zero punctuation for that lady and I hope someone up to her can read this because she must change her attitude or leave.
"Our trip to Sardegna "
We we're really impressed with the Grimaldi ferry .on our outbound trip we relaxed in the entertainment lounge very nice. Our return trip we booked a cabin which was lovely very. Clean and comfortable.
"An experience"
Arriving in Barcelona to board the Roma we were told the ship would be 5 hours late. Whilst we understand the delay was weather driven the on site cafe closed so that no hot drinks or meal could be obtained during the long wait in cold conditions. We found this ship very scruffy and not well maintained in appearance. On the whole, the facilities were adequate for the journey The return journey on the Barcelona was an improvement. The ship was on time and all facilities were clean and working. This ship also had evening entertainment where the Roma did not The biggest problem found was the fact that although there were several nationalities on board both ships, the reception staff and serving crew did not speak English. Whilst I have a little Italian it is not sufficient if you have a question for the staff. You were never greeted with a smile or given the feeling that they wanted to help. Even I know the words for important or attention but the announcements were never given in English so if it was important, it was never understood If you are employing people to give excellent customer service within the travel industry, I do feel that more attention could be given to this on these two ships.
"three accidental trips with Grimaldi and theft"
I caught the ferry with my motorhome from Barcelona to Civitavecchia. But upon arriving at my destination discovered that my vehicle was not there, it had not been loaded. This was a result of a misunderstanding on the Barcelona end where I was directed to leave the keys in the ignition and board the boat. I thought this unusual as on other ferries I have driven on myself. Grimaqldi said that the only thing they could offer was to send me back to Barcelona to pick up the van and then back to Civitavecchia - covering my accomodation and meals. The crew and staff were very courteous and helpful which was a definite plus, but a few things irked me such as very expensive internet (8 euros/hour) - and extra charges for food which I should not have had to pay in my situation. Because I rely on the internet for my business, I spent over 100 euros on internet in that three days, the speed of which was sorely lacking at times. Given my situation, I should not have had to pay that either but the crew were adamant that I had to. Anyway, after three days at sea I was glad to get off the boat in Civitavecchia late at night, discovering that my motorhome had been broken into on board the ship - the kitchen window and blind had been broken where the thief gained entry, leaving black greasy finger marks all through the van which had been thoroughly ransacked. I know that it did not happen in Barcelona because when i got back, I spent a couple of hours in the van while waiting to load it. The thief was only looking for untraceable valuables it seems as he did not take a computer and a camera lens, but he found some gold jewellery and took some food. However, I had a deadline to meet friends in Rome and headed straight there. In my experience, stopping to do a police report for these kinds of things is a complete waste of time. So I feel that I am out of pocket for my trip and will be seeking compensation from Grimaldi for damage to the motorhome and lost time and inconvenience - if they would like to contact me at my email address. Grimaldi need to have English speaking people at their Barcelona end where cars are loaded.
"smooth as silk"
Great boat but very very cold lounge and recliner seat area Is this to punish travelers who choose not to have a cabin? As i say lovely boat/ship Would defiantly choose this shipping company again if the need arises Many thanks
"Really great option for travel between Spain and Sardinia "
We really enjoyed taking this route between Barcelona and Sardinia. We travelled as foot passengers and had a cabin which was clean and nicely equipped for an overnight journey. Boarding was easy and quick, the boat left (and arrived) a little late but that didn't really affect us at all. The only thing it would have been nice to know in advance that nobody told us was that we would be made to leave our cabin 2 hours before arrival, luckily we were up and ready to go but it would have been a nasty surprise if not! We barely used catering or other seating facilities but they seemed perfectly adequate. Staff were few and far between and not particularly friendly, but they did their jobs as you would expect and we encountered no problems.
"One of the best moments in life...."
The system, decoration, service everything was excellent...... had lots of fun.... waiting for another trip soon.
"Fantastic Journey"
Very nice full of excitement facilities very good very comfortable Halal food should be available 4 Muslims
"Great trip and service"
The booking and boarding process was very smooth, once on board we decided to upgrade to a cabin, no problem, good ambience and service on board and disembarking all done well. A good experience.
"Grimaldi Ferries between Barcelona and Civitavecchia"
We use these Ferries, Cruise Barcelona and Cruise Roma, because they are very convenient in cutting out long drives on motorways and because our destination is in a little village about 60 miles north of Rome. The cabins are comfortable, the food is improving, but we spend most of the time reading and we mostly eat food we have brought with us.
"Great trip"
The cabin was fantastic, we had a great crossing.
"Pleasant crossing"
Pleasant, first-time crossing. Overall, I would recommend this ferry trip to friends and acquaintances. The cabin was too warm, though. Everything else was quite good.
"Ferry from Barcelona to Civitavecchia"
Everything was very good on our Ferry Trip Thankyou :) !
"Enjoyable journey "
I travelled between Barcelona and Rome at the end of January. The crossing was very smooth. As it was a Thursday the ferry was virtually empty but the advantage of this was I had a 4 bed cabin to myself. The beds were comfortable and the shower good. The food at the self service restaurant was good value. It's just a shame you have to pay for wifi and you can't get it in the cabins.
"Not bad for the price "
Can't really complain except the cabin on deck 7 was quite noisy. Business breakfast option not worth the money but the business Linch made up for it. Had a good meal in the evening restaurant but perhaps a little expensive. Check in and loading very good but knowing the procedure for getting your ticket and finding the ship could be made easier with better signage or advance advice. Staff very helpful. All in all I would say good value for money.
"What a Pleasure"
My wife and I took this trip and were extremely pleased Nothing to fault. We would do it again in an instant. Better than we anticipated. What a way to relax and unwind from the maddening crowd while on tour.
"sure journey"
i have made a good trip on this boat annd i think i shall use again this boat ! thank's a lot ciao a la proxima volta
"Pleasant trip, comfortable cabin"
I had a lovely trip with my motorcycle on the Grimaldi Lines ship to Barcelona from Civitavecchia. The cabin was comfortable, nice warm shower, cosy bed, and thank goodness I could turn off the air conditioning when it got too cold! The staff were friendly in the bars and cafe areas and there was generally a great atmosphere on board. Thank you Grimaldi Lines!
"Daniele"
Really efficient ship, helpful and kind staff, serious and efficient environment.
"Punctual and comfortable"
I had to bring the car in Spain it was perfect. Punctual.
"POLAR COLD"
Was too cold on board. This is not normal
"Hjourney Civitavecchia Porto Torres"
I travelled very good
"Civitavecchia Barcellona"
Journey on board of the Barcellona Cruise , good level, good quality of the service, huge competence of the staff, good clenaing and good restaurants and food. The only flaw was the landing at Civitavecchia where there was so a mass people waiting to get off the ship.
"My best journey"
Nice trip, maybe too early in the mornig.
"shame for the poor organization"
Hello! Journey was nice, comfortable and clean ship! But I have to say two things: 1)Food is really poor and shabby...... 2) I would like to understand why on the booking website looks like the cabin is compulsory, and when you arrive on board you can acctualy stay everywhere in the common are, like on couches, seats, deck... air maittress... I COULD ADVICE THIS COMPANY TO A FRIEND BUT SAYING HIM: 1) DO NOT eat at the restaurant 2)DO NOT book a cabin. I hope I will received an answer about the ACCOMODATION... Thanks
"good trip"
It was a really nice experience
"Mobiles terms on board"
Telephone charges are ABNORMAL on board ((€11 for 2 wathsapp) The terms must be exposed and visible to everyone, as for the wifi costs.
"Our first Italian ferry a success!"
Our first experience with the ferry system Italy. It was a success. The staff helpful, room clean and comfortable.
"beautiful experience"
The crew is extremely competent and helpful. Perfect time. Really nice crossing. Real professionist
"Trip Civitavecchia-Porto Torres and return"
On the outbound journey, the ferry was on time. Only flaw: the disco was open till late and the music was too loud. On the return journey the ferry arrived in Civitavecchia a bit later than planned. I was sunbathing on the deck and again I could hear this loud music and nobody was dancing. All good except for the music.
"Excellence Ship and Service "
This trip raised the bar for all my future ferries. I felt in a cruise and the facilities were great.
"June 2015 sailed from Spain (Barcelona) to Italy (Civitavecchia) with Grimaldi Lines "
Excellent 'mini cruise' Four berth cabin had plenty of room. Restaurants were very good with choice of self-service to a la carte. The service from the crew was excellent. The ship was very attractively furnished giving a feel of luxury. Very smooth sailing. This is the second time we have sailed with Grimaldi Lines and I would highly recommend them.
"A proper cruise on the Mediterranean!!"
I was not used to travel by ferry in the past, and after this experience I decided to do all my trip by sea. I was expected a ship with less services than I found on board, instead it was like a mini cruise ship! Swimming pool, sauna, hairdresser, club.... Grimaldi's ship are perfectly organised to make your stay relaxing and fun, thanks to the really kind and helpful staff. The Barcellona-Civitavecchia crossing was the best part of my holidays in Spain. It will not be the last experience with Grimaldi.
"Barcellona Civitavecchia"
great trip, I was using a 4 berth cabin alone. Great pool
"bad experience"
3 hours late, dirty ship, dirty toilets and dirty seats. Never again
"beautiful ship but late"
all good on board, Grimaldi ship is very beautiful but it's always late.
"my opinion"
in my opinion, it's not fair that there is people sleeping everywhere on the floor, on the steps and at the bar. They should provide more seats for everyone. I can suggest to travel with a cabin, much more comfortable.
"all good"
all good and nice and professional staff.
"Ferry to Sardinia"
To start regularly saying that since the delay of one hour and a half and nobody contacted us.The boarding in Barcelona more or less well, but the arrival in porto torres, disembarkation a little crazy to go down to the car and and the we had to wait a half hour to get out of the ferry. During the crossing if you travel by night, I recommend not to book seats because people sit wherever they want without paying for the seats. The best is to find a good couch in the cafeterias or in the entertainment room even it sounds weird. There is also people sleeping in sleeping bags occupying spaces in the halls, deck and more. A little bit long crossing by night especially since the return is done by day becomes pleasant. I recommend take hammock in the swimming pool and sleep a little if you can ..... and for the rest all good. Above all, to know that it is not a cruise but rather a large ferry carrying passengers and vehicles to a beautiful island that is SARDINIA.
"Personal experience Grimaldi Sardinia"
To be honest is very good crossing, especially the convenience and the price, but is a bit slow and they are always with delays. however, I will not hesitate to use this service again when traveling to Sardinia
"Good experience"
It was a good experience, the movement is hardly noticeable and clean and comfortable cabins. The advantage of taking the car to Sardinia is very important and worthwhile, there are very large distances and a car is essential. The only bad thing is disembarkation once you get to Sardinia, very disorganized and dangerous than cars to get together with people that get off por otherwise all good.
"my opinion"
great and new ship but the departure is always late. Recommended because it-s cheap
"relaxing trip"
comfortable and relaxing cabins, a lot of good restaurants, fitness center with swimming pool, good value for money. Recommended. Great experience
"Ship good-bad organization"
The M / N Cruise Barcelona is a good ship with good service and not too expensive prices, but the organization of the company is another issue. We left Porto Torres (Sardinia) at 06.30 h. We have to go at 0430 h to an industrial port area devoid of any service. We must wait 3 or 4 hours at early morning without a sad bar or cafe, waiting area or toilets. The only good thing is that is summer. At 5.30 in the morning they open the boarding area and the organizational chaos worsens. There are only two staff to organize the vehicles. Summer = crowded ship = hundreds of cars. The crossing was correct and also at the arrival/departure more or less on time, but at the arrival the organizational chaos again. They do not allows us to access to cars until the ship is tightly moored to port. Consequence: the access corridors to the car parks full to bursting and once they open the doors in droves access to cars because you have to get the car fast. Finally, staff and drivers insane too, with cars swerving inside the boat ... In short, the ship good, the organization poorly.
"Good experience ... despite the stains in the sheets ..."
Recommended experience, family trip to Sardinia with own car, although the overall boat services should be improved, beginning with the cleanliness and quality of food. Very unpleasant, for example, find-the berths with the sheets with stains yellowish ... we assume from previous occupants ... dirt image like a low range, also applicable the food offered during the journey. The process of boarding trucks and cars slows down much the whole operation and that means that the schedules are never met.
"good trip"
great organization at Barcelona port
"Good trip"
The reviews we had read about this trip had been less than exciting so we were very pleasantly surprised. The loading process was a bit tortuous and seemed to take forever. However, once on board things improved greatly. The crew were most helpful and eased us through the rather cramped journey from the car deck on deck to to our cabin on deck 9. A rather small and inadequate lift trying to move too many people upwards at the same time. The cabin was clean and comfortable. The next pleasant surprise was the food. Reviews had complained about the quality. Our experience was the opposite, really tasty and good value. The hour and a half stop in Sardinia in the middle of the night was a surprise; not mentioned anywhere that we had seen in advance. The amenities on the ship were fine. Getting off in Barcelona was a repeat of getting on-too many people trying to cram into too small lifts but the crew helped admirably. Overall a good experience and one we would repeat. Of, the sea being flat calm no doubt helped?
"In Cabin"
20 hours ferry crossing, which if you don't have a cabin booked (I did it and never do it again) the crossing is endless. In cabin, the crossing is good. The swimming pool was opened. Small cabins but enough. Expensive food. NEGATIVE ..... you get an hour and they make you left the cabin almost 3 hours before. I never do that again, because I paid the cabin for the whole the journey ... .....
""
OUTBOUND JOURNEY: BARCELONA-PORTO TORRES. LEFT WITH MORE THAN 2 HOURS OF DELAY. AT THE OFFICE THEY TELL US THAT WE CAN BOARD DRIVER AND PASSENGER IN THE CAR, BUT AT THE BOARDING TIME, WE WERE FORCED WITH SHOUTS AND BAD EDUCATION, TO LEFT THE CAR WITH LUGGAGE HAND BAGS , AND CHILDREN TRAVELING ALONE WITH DRIVER IN CHARGE OF OTHER TRAVELLERS. RETURN JOURNEY: PORTO TORRES-BARCELONA. DAY TRIP TYPE OF ACCOMMODATION: SEAT. INCREDIBLE !. SALON LOCATION OF SEATS, DARK. SEATS TAKEN BY PASSENGERS ONBOARD IN ROME. CREW MEMBER SEEKS THE SEATS IN THE DARK, AND GET UP THE OCCUPANTS ASLEEP. THIS TOOK US MORE THAN HALF AN HOUR. THE CAFETERIA ALSO TAKEN BY PEOPLE DOING CAMPING, WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SIT NEITHER SEATS OR SOFAS TAKEN BY THE "SQUATTERS ". WHAT A DISORDER!!!. NEXT TIME WE WILL GO SWIMMING.
"Next time by plane"
The departure was three hours late without any explanation. The return was only one hour and a half.
"Crossing Civitavecchia - Porto Torres"
We didn’t experience any problems. Check in and boarding went smoothly too. The only bad thing I can think of is that there were no towels in the cabin.
"my travel with grimaldi"
the outbound in cabin wass good, the return was horrible, was impossible to sleep during the night cause all the people was sleeping on the sofa without moving and we were late in both ways
"travel from Civitavecchia. Bacellona"
it was a satisfactory travel, the ferry was in excellent condition.Only two complain about a 1 hour late and tthe crew obliged to leave the cabin 2 hour before aririve to the destination.
"good outbound"
The sea was rough so we suffered seasickness and we arrived a little bit late.
"If that you want is to arrive to your destination with among 3 and 8 hours delay, this is your compa"
The facilities as well as the service and the cleaning are not bad, but regarding to punctuality is terrible. Besides, they don't inform you about the delay until the moment that you are waiting at the port with a bored face. The arrival was 8 hour late due to bad weather conditions in a day that the sea looks in calm and the sun shines. The return was 3 hours late, besides the inconveniences to have to be at the port at 4:30 am and the ferry depart at 9:30am when the departure time was 6:30am.
"My opinion about the journey with Grimaldi Lines"
Both the outbound and the return, the departure was delayed two hours, with the consequences and inconveniences for us.
"My experience on the Grimaldi Ferry"
The ferry is great, good service, good places to spend the crossing, good food and good cleaning conditions of the cabins. Pretty disordered embarking and disembarking, and the worst the delay in the departure from Barcelona to Porto Torres (over five hours), the return was more tolerable (1,30 hour delay)
"Assessment"
The experience on the leg Barcelona-Civitavecchia was pleasant and positive, with the exception of the accommodation in seat, that we chose for our 5th traveller. The return journey was unpleasant because of the bad weather conditions. It's important to say the inacceptable that is the accommodation in seats. WE CONSIDER THAT IT CAN NOT BE OFFER A SEAT EVEN WORSE THAN A COACH SEAT AND WITHOUT PROVIDE EVEN A SINGLE BLANKET.
"Amazing journey"
I had no great expectations but were resolved immediately after entering the cabin. Everything was perfect and we were able to complete our journey normally. The only objection I attribute to the disembarking where the rule that the driver of the vehicle has to go to the garages alone, it is no applied. It was a mess, complicated without enough information. It seems unprofessional the company does not have the means to organize the disembarking and avoid the crowds at the garages. It should also be attributed to the uncivil behavior of passengers who had their family into the vehicle with the engine running in closed garages.
"POSITIVE (+)"
Overall Rating Grimaldi remarkable, it was the first time I made a journey by ferry and is a little heavy for hours crossing and accommodation, but good value for money.
"Comfortable and relaxed journey"
The journey is very comfortable. I recommend booking a cabin, both the outward and return. and bring some food (the self-service is expensive and not very good) It was our first journey on a ferry and the truth that has been a pleasant experience. The worst is the departure time, around 6 o'clock am in the port of Porto Torres, so that you have to get up very early because you have to be a couple of hours before, that's what is indicated on the ticket .... so we arrive a little before ... we got up at 2.30am to get there at 3.30am and a hand written sign on the door indicated that that day opened at 5am !, Besides in Porto Torres, there is nothing indicated, so the cars are arriving there and park wherever they want ... Except of this, as I said before: The journey on the ferry was great.
"The outbound good, the return terrible."
I made the outbound leg at night and it was correct, as expected. At the reception they could be a little more friendly and do not make you feel uncomfortable for asking. The return was a nightmare. I do not know if it was normal or something in particular in this journey, but the return coincided with a group fitness activities of the italian company "don't give up". Three of the four lounges for resting of the ferry were occupied with those activities with a high volume music unbearable for so many hours of crossing. I think the use of the ship's deck is for everyone and there could neither stay neither rest, because of this activity scheduled from 10:00 until arrival at BCN activity non-stop with a high volume of music that cause headache, add to that the cries of the entertainers and not have even half an hour of rest throughout the day. Then you went down to the bar and then more activities there and in the disco too. I went with more people at the reception to request please turn down the volume of the music a little to give us a break and the answer was: Do you think the ship is yours? or something like that. I went to make a complaint but did not want to end my vacation with troubles and I let it go. The truth is, I thought come back to the island in September, but if the crossing is always like that, I will never come back. I don't know if it is something occasional or it's always like that A greeting Danel Asher
"Travel by ferry to Sardinia"
Actually I know about ferry, I'm going to do it again
"Travel to Sardinia"
Outbound and return both wer nice and the cabins were clean.
"very good"
comfortable travel and excellent dinner
"very comfortable"
the travel from barcelona to sardinia was confortable both outbound and return in the cabin the presence of towels and toilet with shower it's very practical. It was all clean and we didn't have cold as well as some people told us before, for sure we are going to do it again this experience.
"Appreciation "
Overall, we are satisfied witht this experience. A few comments though: -there is a lot of noise in corridors during the night -asking the passengers to leave their cabin 2 hours before docking is a exagerated -at the self service restaurant, the customers are rushed when choosing their meals, when queuing and when eating. the staff is irrespectful, especially when you don't speak Italian and ask for information about a dish. Another negative point: are the waiters responsible for serving alcohol to underage people. The evening on the deck was ruined by the attitude of some youngsters who had been drinking. Most of them were under 18.
"travel with motorcycle"
the travel is long, and result more long due to the stop in outbound and in the return in Porto torres.
"transport with a campervan"
Please take example on the Greek ferry companies. Organise systematic OPEN DECK crossings for campervans.
"Punctuality of the ferry"
There was a major delay both way, but if you are retired and that the other aspect of the journey are good, it's not that important.
"Jouney to forget about"
the journey was too long, also for the weather conditions, we took the deck because the cabin were too expensive, I want to say that it is not the case to be awakened from the staff in the only comfortable armchairs which we found at the bar..
"Embark in Puerto Torres "
The signs to get to the boarding point in Puerto Torres was terrible and becasue it was midnight we couldn't find anybody. They should include more directional signs.
"Watch out!"
I'll never use your services again. I think it is a ripe off to make those with a cabin leave 3 hours before arrival and make them stay in a room full of people scattered all over the place.
"A problem free crossing"
Everything went smoothly during the crossing, the cabin was well equiped, the reception on board was good. However, the reception at the Grimaldi Lines terminal in the port of Barcelona was not that good. It's impossible to park. You have no idea where the boat is arriving. You're given a ticket without any indication and the staff only speaks Spanish. You have to figure out yourself where to put the car, where to queue to go onboard. Thankfully the waiters at the bar are nicer than the staff od Grimaldi. Anyway, you can't ask everybody to be professional!
"Very good experience"
Ship travel experience was amazing-see the ratings below. Ship started 3 hours late and reached late to destination, hence only 3 star. Also, there was only one queue for all passengers (and only one for drivers with cars/trucks) means checkin took about 1.5 hours. As suggested by my the ship's wifi app, I purchased internet access by paying online using my card whilst I was in the ship and just checked foot ball score for just less than 1 minute (no video streaming) but when I tried next day, it was not recognsing the PIN given to me. The staff in deck 7 indicated that they can't check what went wrong as I did not buy at desk means I lost the money I used for topping it up. I tried online because it was provided outrightly and did not indicate that going to desk is better than this way. The staff showing courtsey of compensating it would have been a more better care.

"Excellent Journey"
the ship has all sorts of things to do and is really comfortable, very good for a 20 hour journey.
"Trip "
Hi, all good. But why don't they allow to sell tobacco 2 hours before arriving?
"good"
Top quality service
"Personal Considerations"
Excellent Journey, the ferry was great. The only negative aspect is the departure time, which means if you are from the South Italy you need to pay for the overnight crossing and spend more money…
"Trip "
It is not the first time my family and me do this route with this company. It all went like in previous occassions: well and quiet and with a very attentive and polte staff. The return was equally satisfactory, bad weather aside. But that is nobody's fault. Even the staff suffered it. I am sure we will repeat.
"excellent journey"
I travelled in September, the ship was not so crowded, so I was alone in the cabin, the food was quite cheap and good, the cabins were clean and tidy.. All beyond my expectations.
"neusa"
We really enjoyed the trip. I loved the ship, the cabin was very clean, the only thing I didn't like was the food. The buffet barely had any choices. Never mind, we are not obliged to eat in the ship, are wet? Next time I will take Spanish wine and some Spanish ham. I am sure it would be better, and for that price they should improve the quality because in order not to starve we had to eat it anyway.
"Recommended "
Very good first experience. We were delayed by one hour on departure but we arrived on time. The cabins were very good. It was like being in a cruise. The staff was kind (with its exceptions), food was good with different options depending on the budget and you can also take your own food. It fulfills its purpose of transfer at an affordable price. RECOMMENDED.
"Evaluation of the trip "
I am satisfied with my trip and with the value for money.
"Trip to Barcelona and return"
A pleasant trip that saved us a long drive, general facilities were adequate for our needs. Did not however find the catering particularly good definitely the snacks in the bar on the pool deck were better value. My wife was offered a glass of ice and a small black coffee when she asked for iced coffee in one of the bars, need one say more.Cabins were clean however on the return a new shower head would be a recommendation. Rest of the ship was clean especially as going there were a number of dogs on board. No staff problems or punctuality issues. Would definitely recommend this trip and boat to others who wished to do as we did not spend two days driving through Italy and southern France to reach northern Spain.
"Excellent crossing"
We thoroughly enjoyed our crossing. Our cabin was spacious and there was plenty of cupbards, but the whole cabin vibrated all the time I guess from the engines, which seemed to be under our cabin. This was especially noticeable when trying to read in bed, when sitting up and leaning on the head board. The food was tasty but not very hot! Apart from that we thought the ship well appointed, and the drill was very informative and the crew excellent.
"Civitavecchia to Barcelona Oct 2013"
My wife and I this trip with some trepidation as the last time we sailed was in the 1970’s, and was something we planned never to repeat. However, clearly things have changed considerably and this was really a 5* experience. We were welcomed aboard and shown to our outside cabin, which was clean and fresh. The food and drink were very reasonably priced and service was exceptional. All in all, despite the sea conditions which we never really felt, we would not hesitate to recommend this crossing.
"All perfect"
We recommend getting a cabin. The price difference is minor between the seat and the cabin and the cabin is so much better even if you travel during the day. Everything was perfect during the trip. The only bad thing is that the food was expensive and you are too many hours inside the ship.
"Very cold "
On our way to Sardinia we had to spend a night in the boat and we couldn't sleep because it was very cold. The air-conditioning was too strong. I believe they should have let us know in the reversation process to pack some winter clothes. It seems silly but it turned out to be a long and hard night. The rest was very good.
"Porto Torres-Barcellona 23/08/2013"
the embarking procedure was made later than should have been, the ferry was nice, the service was adequate to our expectations, the food could have been better, the only negative aspect was that the ferry had too few lifts...
"Cabin is better than a seat"
I have done the crossing from P.Torres-Barcellona at the end of August/beginning of September. On the way there I took the deck and in the return journey, I booked a cabin. The ship was nice and clean, comfortable, very fast procedures, excellent on board services... Just a little bit difficult to get a space on a free seats.
"Trip"
I've travelled on both day and night crossing and everything was ok. The ferry was very clean and staff on board polite and helpful. Excellent services on board.
"Time flies"
Satisfied with the crossing. The ferry is very comfortable and we had a pleasant journey. The only flaw is that the arrival was supposed to be at h19.15 but slided at h20.00 with the announcement made a few minutes after departure. This made me think about a strategy so that passengers had to dine on board. If that's the case, i think is sad and inconsiderate in regards to all passengers that doesn't care about having dinner on board.
"Safety "
Very good facilities, clean bedrooms and pleasant and helpful staff. However, the prices were too high for the quality served, the check-in was too early and nobody searched the interior of our car, which means that anybody could carry inside whatever they wanted. I think this should be taken with due consideration.
"Good but too cold "
The cabins and facilities of the Cruise Barcelona were very good and the staff was also very pleasant. But it was too cold. The air-conditioning was too high and the temperature too low. Most of the passengers were wearing a jacket and scarf.
"Barcelona Porto Torres"
I am very satisfied with this crossing. All commodities are available on board. I would recommend this company.
"Let's go to Italy "
Excellent way of going to Italy with your car.
"Nice services, poor organisation on boarding procedures and safety"
I'm a Grimaldi client and, this year, i've used their service to go to Barcellona and Sardinia. i think they should improve their service as i had a bad experience during the disembark operations in Civitaveccia on the 25/08/13. The lack of organisation caused the overcrowd towards the garages 2 and 3. They didn't announce on time the disembark procedures, some garages were open, while others weren't. This has caused chaos and many people were walking on the parking ramps, risking an accident. I would suggest to stop the music in order to announce how to disembark, giving directions and priority to garages 3 and 7. They should also revise the safety procedures.
"Too many passengers"
The ferry was so crowded in August and all the people were seated everywhere, the general services were adequate, the staff was not so efficient, poor instructions.
"Comments on the Sardinia ferry "
All very correct
""
It was our second crossing from Barcelona to Porto Torres with Grimaldi Lines, booked with Directferries. We are delighted with our trip, in spite of a slight delay (1h for the outbound journey, 1/2h for the inbound journey). You shouldn't expect some great food (plus it's expensive), but it's ok. I think it's a pity that there are no night crossings between Porto Torres and Barcelona. The 12 hours journey would seem shorter. 2 years ago, we were able to lay down on a bench, but this year the staff must have had instructions to prevent people sitting to lay down. Looking at the numbers of seats on board, I can't see where the problem is. It's probably because of the money. No many passengers book a cabin during the day! It was still a beautiful trip and we were able to enjoy the swimming pool on the boat.
"Perfect Journey"
The journey was wonderful apart from the air- conditioning which was set too high. Bring a coat!
"A very good crossing"
Everything went smoothly, it was well organised and we arrived on time. The staff was nice and available (one of us had a twisted ankle). The passage between Corsica and Sardigna is beautiful.
"Excellent "
Everything was good. Good attention to detail and pleasant trip. In the cabin of Cruise Barcelona there were a few broken things.
"Dsisappointed"
"Not very clean cabins "
The cleanliness in the cabin was very deficient. I guess it was because of the little time between the passengers leaving and those coming in. Other than that, I have no objections at all. Comfortable, clean in the common areas and good prices in the restaurants.
"Barcelona-Civitavecchia "
The ferry was nice and even though the trip with a stop left late, we arrived on time to the destination.
"Persamma"
In general, fine. The entrance of vehicles to the ferry was a bit chaotic and with no information. Also we know that in general the prices in touristical places are elevated but we thought it was way too expensive the price of certain things such as an expresso or having a meal at the buffet.
"Never again on this route"
Selling at full price a cabin that has to be freed at h04.30 because has to be reallocated to other passengers at h06.30 it's not honest. Also, the ferry wasn't on time.
"Grimaldi ferry"
Excellent service, the time onboard flew!
"July holiday 2013"
Ferry on time, staff always available and helpful.
"Comfort in the cabin "
You could feel some sort of excessive vibration in the cabin where we stayed and we didn't manage to sleep all night.
"A problem free crossing"
We spent a lot of time on board (twice 12 hours). I feared that the interior cabin would be narrow and hot in July. It was, however, spacious and practical with a desk area and shower area with toilets and sink. Everything was clean and towels and soap were even supplied! The temperature was slightly chilly. We had a good night. We brought our own pique nique. However, the prices at the restaurant looked ok. For the return journey, we travelled during the day on the deck. We enjoyed the deck chairs on the deck and the swimming pool and the padding pool. A word of advice: be early, because there aren't many deck chairs.
"It wasn't what I expected…"
To begin with, the ship left with two hours delay. The cabins were vey comfortable but it was very cold inside the ship since the air-conditioning was on full-blast. There was also a FLAIX FM party with house and reggeaton music all day long. It was fine for the youngsters who won the radio competition but it made it impossible for us to get some rest. Luckily, I stayed in Sardegna so I saved myself 6hof "party" till Rome...On the way back, the box office opened 75 minutes late, the ship left 2 hours late and we arrived two hours and a half late. On this ocassion, it was very chilly and the people have to cover themselves with blankets and cardigans. The staff was very nice and respectful though.
"Fast ship"
The ferry Grimaldi is a cruise ship with all onboard entertainment and helpful staff. On top of that, this ship is a lot faster than other ferries. Just the chaos of (dis)embarking cars is a pain. For many years this has been a fine sample of Italian disorder during which lots of shouting, even more hand gestures and many disaproving looks are used to try and direct 7 rows of cars (or not). So an on time departure never really happens.
"Information regarding delays"
The ferry arrived with a delay of more then 2 hours both ways. Regarding the inbound journey, the Grimaldi offices were supposed to open at 4.30am. We woke up at 3am to be on time. The staff, who were informed of the delay, stayed in bed. The clients didn't receive any information (not even a coffee). The crossing itself was perfect.
"Delay on the return journey"
i would like to point out the delay on the return trip from Porto Torres to Civitavecchia on the 20 july 2013 (two and a half hour delay). This delay caused us inconvenience as we arrived in Civitavecchia at h21.15 instead of h18.45 (expected time). Grimaldi should reconsider all boarding times according to the passengers and vehicles number. After this negative experience I would choose a different operator for my next trip to Sardinia.
"Sardegna"
Some very good crossings, except that it was late both ways.
"Relaxing way to get from Barcelona to Italy"
We booked this ferry to cut out the driving between Spain and Italy - a family of four, we had an outside 4berth cabin, which was more than adequate for our needs for this trip. Boat was well appointed and the staff very helpful, but...an hour after we should have sailed, the last of the trucks was still loading into the ferry, and our arrival at Civitavecchia was two hours after the published time of arrival, making finding our accommodation (now in the dark) quite difficult. Overall, however, an excellent experience
"Great experience "
It was the first time I travelled by ferry and the embark and disembark was very quick. The cabin was vey comfortable and clean and the staff really polite. Great experience.
"Delay in the embark and disembark times "
The stay in the ferry was very pleasant. In that respect I have no complaints. It was just the waiting times that were always delayed, sometimes up to 3 hours. Not a single time was the time in the ticket respected. Other than that, they stay in the ferry was very nice, with loads of activities and the staff manners were always very good.
"Very correct trip "
The entrance was a bit confusing since the check-in place was not the one signalled in Grimaldi Lines. It wasn't detailed anywhere either. The trip was very correct and comfortable. The return from Porto Torres was delayed by an hour. Also, even though it says that you have to do the check-in 2 hours in advance, the box office only opened an hour in advance . Other than that, everything was correct.
"Delay"
Nothing to report. However, the ferry was 2 hours late
"Trip to Sardinia "
Great ship to travel. Very comfortable and the staff was very nice. The trip didn't feel slow even if it is a 12-hour journey.
"Our first big voyage on the sea"
This was the first time that we went on a long voyage on sea so we were a bit excited about boarding (how it goes) and about being at the port in time because what we had read in the conditions beforehand made us a bit worried what if we don't get there in time. Luckily everything was OK, boarding was smooth. We would have been a bit happier if our cabin had not been on floor 7 (the engines' noise was so close) but we tried to forget about it:-). The ship is nice although it was a bit strange that in the elegant restaurant people were sleeping with their luggage...The staff were polite and competent. All in all we are satified and liked our voyage.
"Good but slow "
The trip was nice and the facilities very correct. I would like to thank the fact that there was a map with the route that the ship was following (through a screen or the intercom) since it is a very slow trip.
"Porto Torres Barcelone crossing"
Nothing to report about the ship. It was however regrettably late. The staff and the services available are nice.
"Good value on board but not impressed with arriving 3 hours late"
Pleasantly surprised at the prices of the food in the self-service restaurant. Not so pleasantly surprised at the cost of internet access! Enjoyed my experience onboard but very unhappy at arriving in Civitavecchia 3 hours late which meant it was dark and could not find a taxi to get to my hotel.
" ferry inefficiency"
Very Bad, I was awake all the night long because I had as cabin neighbours a group of Spanish students who made a lot of noise all night. No one of the staff came to check the situation. It is a shame for the money spent to sleep in the cabin, I found difficult even to go to the garage, there were very few members of the staff and they were unable to speak Italian, and my car was covered with dust and rust fell from the roof. Unhappy
"Commentaries"
Pleasant boat - Fairly unpleasant staff. The electronic keys for the room weren't working. The catering is very basic. My credit card was working at the restaurant at first. Surpisingly, when I said I couldn't pay otherwise, it worked!
"Barcelona to Rome"
We stayed in the sleeper cabin and next time I ever travel on a ferry, I'm getting a actual cabin. The seats were uncomfortable to sleep in the and room was freezing. I wouldn't recommend making this trip without a cabin.
"Cruise Barcelona"
I found both Barcelona and Civitevecchis not the easiest of Ports to locate the correct location for both queuing and checking in. The ship was clean and pleasant although there was a lack of outside seating for those wanting to enjoy the fresh air. The costs were reasonable for the distance covered compared to other routes. I would use it again.
"Barcelona - Civitavecchia"
The crew was really helpful, and the ferry was clean. The only problem was the delay we had on the return, instead of arriving at 19:00 as we should have, we arrived at 01:00.
"Grimaldi Civitavecchia/Barcelona 23/05"
Sailed two hours late, were given no information by staff as to when we might expect to board or sail or reason for delay. Filipino crew were friendly, helpful and courteous. Ferry and cabin were clean, plenty of facilities to keep one entertained (although no cinema which would seem an obvious service), food in a la carte restaurant was mediocre to say the least, and all food and beverage was pretty expensive.
"Ferry was 9 hours late"
Original schedule was 22:15h. 8 hours before planned departure directferries called and told us that the ferry would have been cancelled and we can take the next ferry 5 hours later at 3 am. Next call came in few minutes later telling that this was cancelled, too and the next ferry is 6am. Arriving in Civitavecchia nobody from Grimaldi Lines said anything about a cancelled ferry but instead the ferry is shifted some hours. Planned boarding is 3am and departure to Barcelona 6am. Boarding with a car started finally at 5:50am and the ship started 7:20. The ferry arrived 9 hours late and the booked and paid night in the hotel was long gone. People onboard the ferry were very nice and a menu for 6 Euros was offered fot the reason of being so late.
"Excellent ferry!"
The 'Barcellona Cruise' is really comfortable with a variety of facilities and well maintained. The communal spaces and cabins are very clean, the staff really kind and professional! Highly recommended.
"Trip to Sardinia"
On the 12th of July, we travelled on the cruise Barcelona ferry to Porto Torres. The ferry was great and it had a beautiful nautical decoration. An awesome boat, I absolutely recommend it.
"Wonderful experience"
Nice, clean and tidy ship. The cabin we were assigned was a pleasant surprise too. Comfortable and clean beds, excellent food and very helpful staff, even if not everyone could speak our language. With this ship you are guaranteed entertainment and top class facilities although the prices of drinks in the bar are slightly high! Overall really impressed! I hope to travel again on this ferry.
"Good for people on a diet who like to queue!"
If you are on a diet and you like long queues this is the ideal ship!
"Beautiful ship"
We took this ferry to Porto Torres several times and we have always been satisfied. We didn’t go for a proper dinner on board, just a quick snack in the self service restaurant which seemed pretty good. Cabin was very clean, lounges were spacious and we even arrived ahead of schedule. Great experience.
