"Good journey"
All good
"Another recommendation "
Very good just wish food and drink were cheaper and also the crossing cost but could not fault it otherwise.
"Pleasant & Efficient Journey"
Living in Sussex, Newhaven for us is convenient. We find the service by DFDS efficient and comfortable. Particularly, the wide car-deck aisles prevent damgae to cars, c.f. the Dover ferries.
"Poor P.R."
Unfortunately due to sickness it was impossible, due to hospital appointments, to make the trip. I informed direct ferries and asked if there could be any refund, however small, particularly as I am a regular customer, they informed me they would not be make any refund. Obviously I will not be using them again. Importantly my review is based on direct ferries not dfds, although I believe they informed direct ferries there would be no refund
"Journeys with D F D S"
Our journey from Newhaven to Dieppe (return) was one of the best ferry journeys that i have taken. The organisation by the loading crew and the ships company was absolutely excellent. The cleanliness of the ship and the standard of the food was superb and the friendliness of all the staff was a credit to the company. This includes both ships on our journey out and our return.
"Newhaven to Dieppe"
I travelled to Dieppe from Newhaven, and I must say the loading in Newhaven was efficient,. however the disembarkation was painfully slow, whereas in Dieppe it was speedy both ways. As for the ships , they were very good. Dieppe port was very clean , where as Newhaven is an embarrassing. It is very old and derelict looking. Needs money spent on it. Not a good advert for people arriving in this country for the first time.
"A pretty good option."
Having not caught a ferry for years I was looking forward to this little trip to and from Dieppe as my two young children had never been on a ship before and the whole experience was a good one. The process of booking was easy and reasonable, the trip was enjoyable and hassle-free and all the people responsible for it including the ferry staff and security at either end were friendly. My only gripe would be that, having got to the port the full 90 minutes ahead of sailing time as requested, there was no advantage to doing so in terms of the order of disembarkation. On the way back in particular we were early arriving in Dieppe and yet managed to be one of the last cars to get away from Newhaven. More effort on this front and I would definitely become a regular ferry-goer.
"lack of updates over delay "
Departure was delayed by nearly an hour with no updates over the reason for the delay
"Good 👍"
Left on time. Food was ok. Staff pleasant. Would use again
"Enjoyable Crossing"
Very good crossing. Ship very comfortable, clean and staff friendly. We have done this crossing quite a few times now with DFDSand have alway experienced a pleasant and efficient journey. There are never any rowdy groups which means you can get a few hours sleep. We will continue to use and reccomend.
"Staff"
Recent trip Dieppe to Newhaven, just a note about how helpful and friendly the staff were, they notice straight away if you are struggling or are unsure and step in to offer assistance, they seem also to remember their customers which makes you feel welcome. Nice atmosphere. Perhaps this appreciation could be passed onto them. Thank you .
"Relaxing Crossing"
Enjoyable journey from Dieppe to Newhaven 4 hours to relax. Meal was good, although it could have been a little hotter. Being able to sit outside on the deck a bonus. Very relaxing crossing and very reasonably priced. Always departs on time with efficient loading and unloading of vehicles. Would certainly use this route again.
"Great crossing on the 8th of May "
Excellent trip across the channel. Only gripe was the volume of the children’s tv, it seemed come through all of the speakers around that deck. Every member of staff were very friendly indeed.
"First trip as a foot passenger to Dieppe"
I travelled with my mother, and we had a great trip no doubt helped by the fantastic weather. We both live very close to the ferry terminal with my mum in Seaford and myself in Newhaven both in positions to watch the ships go past each day. I felt the check in information was a little misleading as it said ‘latest check in’ 90 mins before sailing. Making me believe that check in would shut 90 mins before departure but in fact the check in desk only came alive a couple of hours before. I know as I arrived to a darkened unmanned terminal. It was great to be able to travel luggage free. Especially as travelling with my elderly mother I would have had to manoeuvre her case alongside mine wherever we went onboard. But what a shame the crew can’t organise it for the luggage to be off either before or with the foot passengers. Waiting 20+ mins in Dieppe and 40min in Newhaven was really frustrating. Having a Taxi organised seemed like a good idea arriving back but it could have got expensive. All the staff we met and spoke to both sides of the channel and onboard were curtious and kind.
"Perfect crossing"
The crossing was perfect because the sea was like a mill pond, the sun was shining down and making our view from our comfortable chairs, from the sheltered deck quite heavenly. We watched the sunset with drinks from the bar. Hot chocolates and Sauvignon blancs! All prettty wonderful. What then ruins the experience is, as a foot passenger, ALWAYS having to wait approximately HALF AN HOUR OR MORE when we arrive, for our baggage. It happens EVERY time, and I do not know why it has to be this way. It results in me missing my connecting train to London and very much puts me off travelling via Newhaven Dieppe if I have work to get back to after a weekend. PLEASE DFDS change this system. Everything else is wonderful. But this is a big enough problem to stop us travelling with you. There are many Londoners who have had the same experience. We miss our last train to Victoria and are faced with traumatic and expensive alternatives- like trying to stay in Newhaven or traveling on a night train and bus that takes over 2 and a half hours and arrives well after midnight. None of this is necessary. Thank you
"2018 trip"
Very good service
"Dieppe - Newhaven"
Generally a good trip on an almost empty ship. However having to arrive one and a half hours before sailing was ridiculous as we were not loaded until the last 30 mins. and a four hour journey needs resting places but there was nowhere to lie down without paying for a cabin. The last thing I want to do after a six hour drive to get there is sit in a reclining chair. I tried walking round the ship but the upper floor which I think had a proper restaurant was closed to passengers so there was not much of a circuit.
"Travelling on seven sisters"
Very nice trip quick and efficient loading and unloading enjoyed my journey.
"great trip"
Excellent choice of ferries. Half an hour from home no hassle with negotiating the M25 or long queues at Dover and Calais. Willchoose this route on future. Eryl williams
"Very good"
A pleasant and relaxing journey.
"Efficient and comfortable"
My wife and I travelled with our car. Booking and checking in were astraightforward, the crossing was calm, staff friendly, and all was done efficiently
"Ferry to Dieppe"
Apart from the gents toilets on side of one deck being locked and unavailable for use on the return trip I wouldn't criticise this service at all. I shall be happy to use this service again. I didn't use the catering but it all looked fine but the main thing was we were comfortable and on time.
"Sep16"
Fantastic from start to finish! Will definitely be using the service again...
"Trip to France and back"
On the whole the crossings were well managed and efficient, however there are 3 aspects to the journey (which I've done for many years on an annual basis) that are always challenging. One is the quality of the food - it is not in my opinion good cooking, plus it does not cater well for vegan and gluten free requirements. So I always need to bring my own food and 'picnicking' as such is not made easy, in terms of prohibitive food notices or a place to sensibly be able to eat your own food. The second issue is the air conditioning, as it is often on even if it is not needed, hence it can be quite chilly inside the boat. The third issue is sending the car passengers down to the car deck before it is time to drive off. This was not the first time that on the Dieppe to Newhaven crossing the car drivers/passengers on the deck I was on were kept waiting in their cars for ages (a good 45 minutes) with no explanation of why we had to wait so long. It's an unpleasant and claustrophobic experience for me and I wonder if there could be a better way of managing it. However, in response to your question as to whether I'd recommend this ship to a friend, yes I would but I would point out the pros and cons.
"Convenience and Efficiency "
Thank you, once again, Direct Ferries - and DFDS Seaways, for a quite restful sea crossing, Newhaven - Dieppe. We wouldn't chose any other route.
"First time"
First time travelling this route, the ferry boarding was efficient the staff on board friendly and helpful. Despite a delay the ship managed to catch up on some time. Cabin on the Newhaven/ Dieppe crossing was spacious and clean. Unfortunately the catering on the return journey let the company down and I suffered severe food poisoning, not ideal when you have a 550 mile journey ahead of you. I am sure this would be a rare occurance and would not put me off using this service again.
"Newhave Dieppe"
Prompt and efficient. A welcome as you came aboard from one of the crew. Spotless and comfortable. Cabins very good. Would use this service again. Oh, grub good as well apart from the "duck pie" which was rather dry and tasteless.
"Good trip"
Check-in was simple, loading efficient and the ferry was punctual. The staff were helpful although the chef was extremely vocal with his colleagues! Exchange rate was shocking which made the food expensive but the food was enjoyable. I think it would be useful to label the Reception desk as Information desk or change the announcements to say that information is available at the Reception desk. Hand dryers in the toilets weren't very effective but the facilities were clean. The shop wasn't open for long enough and opening and closing times weren't announced On the whole the journey was fine; the vessel left and arrived on time which is always a must as far as I'm concerned
"Smooth and speedy"
We travelled on the 1am ferry Dieppe to Newhaven. More info re loading process would be good and dimming the lights in the reclining seat area would be welcome. Otherwise we like this crossing as it is convenient and less subject to hold-ups than any Docer/Calais crossing.
"Excellent way to cross the channel"
Great service for crossing the channel
"on arrival"
would like to know why it takes so long to disembark from the ferry, every time time it takes at least 35mins.
"no complaints "
All good on both crossings.
"France for the first time."
I didn't know what my expectations would be on my trip to Dieppe or how I would manage going on my own. The ferry crossing was really good and the customer service was excellent. Dieppe is a lovely city and there's so much to see and do, the restaurants around the quey all want your trade and the prices are amazing. The French people are just lovely and I'm planning another trip before Christmas, I travelled up to Reoun and spent the day exploring the old City. See you again soon. Sean
"Our trip to Europe"
We have always travelled with direct ferries as they make it so convenient and easy for us to travel. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them.
"Review"
All OK, apart from hoards of children running around the ship - particularly dangerous near the bar.
"Effective client of a little tired "
A nessecary journey made with a company with little competition. The travel organisation was great. But the facilities are a little old tired and not as clean as they could be. The welcoming crew were great, we did find one tetchy member serving food on one of the two boats we used but everyone else gave great service. The seating areas were adequate but a little uncomfortable for the duration... Not as good as modern coach seating. The biggest area for improvement was the toilets all of which needed a deep clean. Superficially usable but too few for the number of people using them and the hygiene regime appeared to lack attention to detail.
"A good crossing"
We were very pleased with our crossing from Newhaven - Dieppe at the end of August. Couldn't fault the ferry itself, spacious, clean and decent enough facilities. Ideally would have had slightly more for children, particularly younger children to fdo, perhaps a more substantial soft play. Also the price of food etc on the crossing is pretty steep which is although sadly anticipated, still disappointing. The only other disappointment was the lack of facilities prior to boarding. A place to get a decent coffee and snack would make a fortune! On the same note, Newhaven port itself could do with a spruce up, not a fortune spent but it's not the most glamorous vision to meet you on depart/arrival.
"Summer ferry crossing ....."
.....but it was freezing onboard . We had to beg a blanket from reception for my daughter and I so that we would stop shivering. Apart from the temperature , a good comfortable crossing. Liked that the comfy seats were available to all
"Great journey"
Great journey from Newhaven to Dieppe (& return). Left on time after an unhurried check in and boarding. Clean comfortable cabins. Pleasant ships with everything we needed. Good hot food. Great cup of coffee from the upstairs bar! Although fairly small there was a well stocked shop. Overall very pleased with sailing this route. Would use this route and DFDS again.

"Efficient Service"
The price of the tickets was very good and the ship itself had reasonable prices in the food outlets. The journey went by quickly. We are hoping to use again next year this time with our Vespa! It took a bit longer to get off at Newhaven but that was due to Border Control.
"Trip home"
Nice boat , just find it far to expensive , it school holidays so they put the prices up .
"Newhaven to Dieppe route"
Very good service, no delays on our crossings. Friendly and helpful staff. Shop was good and not stupidly expensive, but reasonably priced. Only downside was that you could not hear the televisions (sound turned off) which seemed a bit pointless having them on. Breakfast (cooked English) was O.K. but the mushrooms were tasteless with an unpleasant texture. However, overall I would recommend this route (Newhaven to Dieppe) and we would definitely use this route again when visiting North West France.
"Ferry trip Dieppe to Newhaven"
A very good experience- it all went well and I was impressed.
"seven sisters "
Quick check in, staff friendly and helpful.
"travelling with motorbike"
Excellent crew..ready for the motobikes when boarding...strapped down with cushion on strap as not to damage seat
"Hassle free travel"
We've used this service many times over the last 15 years and it's a little gem. None of the problems of the bigger ports and the crossing is always punctual, comfortable and enjoyable.
"A Comparison"
We travelled over on P&O and their ship, catering and facilities were far superior to this vessel. Saying that, the facilities, etc,. were not too bad on the DFDS vessel
"newhaven - dieppe"
good crossing fair price for motorhome shame no cabins
"Newhaven/Dieppe return crossings Saturdays 6th / 13th August"
Both crossings were excellent as far as time and comfort, with the Channel like a millpond. Staff were really friendly and helpful and the catering and food were excellent. However the toilet facilities really need updating with loo flushes not working on both journeys ( on the return journey we were advised that the problem was solved after they were closed for a while, but this was not the case). The only other adverse criticism I have is the length of time it takes to return the cars whilst docking ,which seemed endless, and the delay in the UK customs end on return which seemed to be a touch unnecessary.
"Efficient and friendly"
I took the last ferry of the night, so was keen to rest. The cabin was clean and restful. Embarking etc the car was efficient, with plenty of directions.
"A good way to crosss the channel"
Geting on thr frerry is quick and easy. The ships are clean, very well designed, the fod is gine and the staff helpful and friendly. The only downside is the customs and passport checks when you arrive, each way was nearly two hours ! I would use this route again though.
"Another great trip"
Another great trip from Newhaven to Dieppe and back. Wonderful helpful crew on a clean and punctual ship... Looking forward to next year already
"no problems all good"
I was well impressed with direct ferries as they were very efficient and helpfull
"3 day trip"
Overall all good.
"Sea trip"
The trip with DFDS was very comfortable. One point of contention was the ladies toilet which was very dirty and over flowing main bar area. Many thanks
"Fantastic service"
GreT all round service
"Newhaven-Dieppe "
A fine crossing but a slight delay in setting off from Dieppe and delay in arriving in Dieppe (we were parked on the top area). Plenty of comfortable seating and not too much waiting to get food/drinks. PS: It is not clear when to go back to the deck for motorists (but plenty of announcements for pedestrians) Once you are standing waiting outside the door to the cars there were announcements which we could not hear as people were chatting. Times of sailings We thought lunchtime sailing was fine for us but with the small delay it made us arrive in rush hours in England with horrific traffic jams on the roads(not your fault!). An earlier crossing would therefore be preferable for us.
"Great "
Good customer service
"Newhaven-Dieppe return trip "
The Newhaven ferry port was a bit run-down and didn't operate with all the professionalism of Dover but having saidb that we arrived on time and boarded and embarked on time. The Dieppe ferry port was well maintained and professionally operated with excellent security. The ship (Seven Sisters) although a little small compared with those on the Dover-Calais route was reasonably comfortable and well maintained. The staff were polite and helpful and the catering was very good. The on board shop was a little disappointing being small with only a limited range of goods. All in all considering the general situation on the Dover-Calais route I was pleased we chose this route. The 4-hour voyage makes for a relaxed journey and the extra time is balance b y not having to drive Calais - Rouen.
"Dieppe-Newhaven"
We travelled as foot passengers on the Seven Sisters and it was all very efficient. Plenty of places to sit ( we chose the deck as it was a sunny day) and the staff were very helpful and pleasant. They took a great deal of trouble with some disabled passengers in particular. We arrived in Newhaven absolutely on time. Only slight complaint: the food was overpriced and not quite as good as it looked!
"Hassle free journey"
Pleasant journey, comfortable areas to sit, Staff very friendly & when we reported our coffee spillage we were offered a free replacement Only part that was slow was getting our car off once we arrived back in Newhaven (45 mins. sitting in car in the heat before coming off)
"Great Value"
The ship was on time at departure and arrival. (but on return trip, had a half hour wait to get car off, don`t know what went wrong) . ship was clean, staff friendly, food good and price was great. Happy to use again
"fresh clean cabin "
we loaded on time in the morning .... enjoyed a good full English Breakfast & happily retired to the fresh & clean cabin to catch up on our sleep . The unload time took a while due to french passport control . Otherwise all DFDS staff were efficient & friendly .very good crossing . thank you to DFDS
"Crossing to and from Dieppe"
Outward journey was very smooth. Return, would have liked some directions to the ferry in Dieppe but once there , very smooth loading. Had fish and chips at the restaurant which were mediocre and not very hot. On arriving was told to go to our cars, and then sat there for about 40 minutes not knowing until someone else said a lorry had been stuck. It would have been nice to have had an announcement to let us know there was a delay. It took a while to get through customs and passport control but were soon on our way. I like going via Newhaven and found the crossing a pleasant one. Staff were all pleasant and helpful.
"Easy and efficient crossing"
Staff polite helpful in the loading process.
"DFDS Ferries"
quick and easy to book, very punctual, good choices of food plenty of comfortable seating.
"Relaxed Return to the UK"
We find that to return to the UK via Dieppe to Newhaven with DFS is a good relaxing experience, we don't always travel out from the UK to Europe, it depends where we wish to travel to, however, our return voyage is generally with DFS on this route. We would recommend it to anyone.
"Air Conditioning"
We love the Ferries, without them we would not be going to France. However, on our return journey on the Seven Sisters, the Air Conditioning was far too cold, everyone was wrapping up with whatever they had. We were unprepared for the cold, and were glad to get in the car at the end of the journey. As a retired ships Captain myself on giant Container Vessels, it was my duty to carry out inspections. This should also happen on Ferries. Either the Captain or one of the staff should go round the passenger decks after perhaps an hour into the crossing, to see if all is well and that the passengers are happy/content. We find that the announcements are just about impossible to hear/understand.
"Good trips"
Good trip both ways. Efficient. helpful and friendly crew.
"Seven sisters"
Lovely clean ship with lovely helpful staff, clean comfy cabins, would recommend to anyone, loved the night crossing x
"Seven Sisters"
I have used the Seven Sisters ferry between Newhaven and Dieppe several times now and I couldn't have asked for a more relaxing, pleasant journey - great seating options and facilities, very friendly staff and reasonably priced food and drink. I would 100% choose to take this ferry again.
"Ferry crossings Newhaven to Dieppe"
The ship is clean and well run. It is a great pity that the Restaurant has never opened because the Self-service cafeteria is of variable quality. The fish and chips were awful, dry and overcooked, the very worst you could be unfortunate to find on your plate. The staff were good and attentive.
"my trip to france"
great service and a good price compared to other ferry company's
"Newhaven -Dieppe"
Travelled many times on this crossing. In my opinion its great value for money. Always a stress free experience loading and unloading. Food's good and the French crew are very helpful with a good knowledge of English if your French is as bad as mine.
"Mini cruise and home."
The ship and service could not be faulted in any way.
"Visiting Friends in France by Car"
A very convenient, efficient and pleasant way to travel to France, Dieppe is easy to connect to the major autoroutes and Newhaven to home 10 minutes. Easy check in and out. Made it to the Dordogne by 9 pm off the 9 am sailing from Newhaven- a long day but not stressful. Petrol difficulties a myth - at least where we were. Food on board good and a taste of France in advance in the restaurant! Pleasant and helpful crew. Reasonable prices compared to other ferries. Have done it before and will no doubt do it again.
"Smooth Operation"
Smooth operation very calm. Staff polite and efficient. Much less stressful than the shorter crossing or flying. Part of the holiday experience - rather than a necessary evil.
"Does what it session on the tin"
No thrills efficient service you know what to expect good value
"An O.K. way of getting people & car straight into the nice part of France."
A clean ship, pleasant crew. very efficient disembarkement in Dieppe, sailings were promptly on time on all occasions. [The Newhaven Immigration officers checking lorries carefully for illegal people had a knock on effect for all the cars too, so it was 3/4 hour before unloading from docking]. Outside the control of the ferry operator but should be allowed for in one's return to UK drive time. Saves a long drive down to Dover, neat efficient & straightforward loading procedures each end and also avoids that long coastal drive southwards from Calais before reaching the prettier parts of France. Especially useful when visiting Normandy and western areas of France with plenty of resorts, nice beaches and quiet smooth roads.
"Crossing "
Although a small and somewhat old ship, the crossing was fairly painless. The staff were friendly and polite.

"Brilliant Crossing with DFDS"
Thank you so much DFDS, my daughter and her family with myself had a wonderful time onboard the children really loved the journey, wish you went into La Havre or Caen,
"Cheerful and straightforward no frills crossing "
I enjoyed the lack of frills, the inexpensive crossing and the short trip ! I had a cabin during the day which was comfortable and clean so I could sleep and read in peace. A very comfortable and easy crossing Thankyou
"Newhaven - Dieppe - Newhaven"
Ferry competitively priced, left on time, was clean and the staff courteous and helpful, ditto return journey. Will use Newhaven again!
"DFDS Nwhaven Dieppe RETR"
Excellent, friendly staff, punctual. ferry clean and comfortable. Would recommend.
"Easy "
Good service that has always run on time for me. The staff are always helpful and pleasant and the whole experience is to be recommended.
"12.30 pm crossing from Dieppe to Newhaven"
First time that I had used this service, normally use Brittany Ferries or Eurotunnel. What a delightful experience, for a start the car was not crammed in, it was possible to open the doors and get out normally unlike other ferries where the gap between the cars is impossibly tight ! Service from the staff on the ship was excellent and would use this company again. The weather was very good so it was lovely to be on the deck area, perhaps some better seating there would be an improvement rather than the cheap plastic, quite low, seats that are sparingly available, that is my only critism. Well done, lovely crossing.
"Newhaven-Dieppe"
A very good rip both ways, nothing to complain of, toilets clean, spacious seating and the catering good and reasonably priced. No prizes for coffee out of a machine, and the pasta was more to the English taste than the Italian - soft and sugary - but the pork was excellent and generally the food side of things seemed to be in good hands.Parking arrangements were easy.
"Excellent experience! "
We had a very good ride both ways. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Both ferries were on time and found them clean and with decent food options. Will repeat it as l found it a good cheap and stress free way to get to the continent.
"Painless"
Comfortable, clean with decent catering - not much more to be said really.
"Ideal channel crossing"
The great thing about Newhaven and Dieppe is that they are both relatively small ports and therefore a much better experience. Easy to find, no fuss (apart from the expected tight security). It is a long time since I went on a ferry as we usually take the Eurotunnel and I enjoyed the crossing. Newhaven is easy to get to and only 2 hours from London. The crossing was about 4 hours (although late departing due to the tight security controls of vehicles coming off the ferry before we could board), leaving a 3 hour drive to get to my destination just south of Normandy. This was a good balance between driving and the channel crossing. The ferry was great with choice of seating and being able to walk around the decks. Dieppe is a really pretty port and as you drive off the boaty, the winding road takes you up to the top of the chalk cliffs. We will definitely take this crossing again.
"Trip from Dieppe to Newhaven"
Had a very good experience the journey was excellent and the whole trip was most enjoyable. Would definitely recommend DFDS Seaways to my friends and we will be travelling that way again in May. Well Done.
"Crossing"
We have used this ferry several times now, the crossing time to France is made pleasant by friendly crew and short journey time . Thankyou !
"Excellent crossing."
First class treatment with absolutely no problems. Will definitely use this crossing again.
"Visit family "
A painless comfortable journey on a clean ship would recommend to anyone. Well done!
"France Trip Sept 2015"
We decided to take the Newhaven to Dieppe route this time round and were very impressed with the ease of boarding from a smaller port. The staff were helpful and friendly and the ferry clean and comfortable. We will be using this crossing to France in the future.
"First time from Newhaven "
First time for us the Newhaven to Dieppe route. Fantastic experience. Smooth sailing both ways and we booked a cabin for the return. Amazing value. Lovely and clean. Fluffy white towels and clean white sheets. We would definitely use this route again.

"Trip from new haven to Dieppe and return."
Blessed with good weather. Very comfortable trip. Pleasant staff, clean toilets, comfortable seating. Instructions for disembarking could be clearer and maybe repeated as they coincided with increase engine noise. Vehicle and foot passengers were mixed and a bit confused as to where to wait.
"nice and easy"
From booking through to the crossing, everything went well. As always, we travelled on a clean , well appointed ship providing us with everything that we need, although WiFi access would have been good.
"Newhaven/Dieppe & back"
Had a great weekend in France. Two excellent crossings, both on time and staff on board helpful and friendly. No issues like they are suffering at Calais.
"Good trip"
Had a good trip - excellent facilities for sitting and relaxing and spread out nicely so it's not too noisy (or if it is, you can escape to somewhere else). Food was fine and reasonably priced. Shop was a bit small with very limited selection of goods - would have appreciated some more chocolates/biscuits.
"Trip to France"
Good. Safe trip. Attentive staff.
"Newhaven / Dieppe crossing"
Done this crossing lots of times & its nearly always on time. Glad they are now keeping this crossing going & with the extra ferry its great
"Good cruise"
Need better directions to disembarkation points to the cars after docking otherwise good trip
"Good velue"
Great value as we managed to get a £49 ticket. This was a 1am ferry but managed to get some sleep in the reclining chairs. Would definately take this ferry again at this price. Beats all the hassle of Calais as well (Newhaven/Dieppe).
"Lovely Trip"
Had a lovely trip going over to Dieppe - The weather was lovely giving a very smooth ride - on this lovely boat.. - which I know would have always been very smooth The Staff were very helpful & friendly & the counter services perfect. Will always travel with you - when going to France again
"Love this crossing!"
Haven't tried this route for a few years but it's better if anything. On time and good price, plenty of comfortable sears. Didn't try the food but the barman was nice!
"Ferry Nice Crossing"
Great organisation, staff with a real sense of humour and a tidy ship!
"Easy trip!"
We haven't used the Newhaven /Dieppe crossing for years but thought we would have a change and we're glad we did! Quick loading(but we were out of school holidays) left a few minutes late but that time was made up. Great boat with good facilities, comfortable seating and clean. Easy off load on arrival in France. Return leg was as good but let down by very slow off load at Newhaven, sat in our car for almost 1hour to disembark? Would definitely use DFDS again as enjoyed a comfortable crossing!
"Happy Travellers!"
We had never travelled with DFDS before but were very impressed with the ferries, the service we received and the route. Will definitely recommend to others. Thank you.
"Dieppe-Newhaven"
The trip was good and enjoyable. It took perhaps longer tghan we expected to drive off the ship after docking; I think about 30 mins. The main delay was passport control on arrival which was unexpected. We had had two passport checks already in Dieppe and supposed that this was adequate. The system for Calais/Dunkirk to Dover is presumably different but on arrival in Dover there is no further passport check I believe, which makes getting home much easier. Otherwise, all good.
"porthmouth dieep"
It was a nice and smooth experience . I will travel with them again
"Newhaven to Dieppe"
I had such a wonderful trip, departure was on time, great food and lovely people thank you so much will be travelling soon back to UK
"Good trip"
Outbound to France was great, missing towels quickly given, all staff very attentive and friendly. Cabins clean & tidy. Return was even better.
"Seven Sisters this summer"
Sailed during a busy time so the toilets were not as clean as they usually are. Queues for food and toilets but the sailing was punctual and driving on and off was very quick and efficient.
"Pleasant sailing"
Travelled from Dieppe to Newhaven with my wife after driving from Portugal over two days, to say I was tired was an understatement. Once on board, I enquired about a cabin, although it was only a 4 hour or so crossing, I was desperate for a good sleep before the onward journey to Scotland. I asked at the reception and a very pleasant member of staff took my name and on the ferry departing, contacted ourselves and a further couple by the speaker system and we were given a cabin at a reasonable cost. The cabin was perfect and had a shower which we were glad of prior to going to our vehicle on arrival at Newhaven. Full marks to DFDS, no hold ups at any stage and a pleasant restful crossing, with no problems that Calais was having. Would certainly recommend DFDS to anyone driving to any part of Europe.
"Good grip to France"
Good service good crossing no problems avoided the delyas at Dover and Calais!
"Ferries are great!!!"
We had never used a ferry before, and were a bit apprehensive, but we needn't of worried, it was great on both journeys. Access, parking, seating, space, food, staff, price, every aspect was great and we enjoyed the rest in a choice of very comfortable seating! The price was also very good. We would certainly not hesitate to use direct ferries again
"A very good and positive experience "
Yes on both the outward and homeward journey both me and my wife was very happy with each crossing; the staff were warm and friendly; I don't think it could have been improved on.
"Suited us perfectly"
The port experience at both Newhaven and Dieppe was very efficient , a little waiting to get through border control en route home. The queues for food and drink on the ship disappear after the first hour, so find a seat and relax.
"August crossing in camper van"
The booking arrangements are clear and simple and in cost terms are good value. On both outward and return legs the ferry left and arrived on time and announcements during the crossing in English and French were appropriate and helpful. Seating was adequate but we did not purchase food. Toilets were clean. The loading and off-loading were very well organised and inspired confidence.
"DFDS Trip to Dieppe"
Great trip, on time, friendly pleasant staff, the toilets became little messy but then I feel this was down to some passengers who were not very hygenic, would definatly use DFDS again.
"Newhaven dieppe crossing"
Did this crossing for the 1st time, had a cabin too, would highly recommend the service, cabin really clean although a little chilly, well worth having. faultless service would definitely use this service again.
"Great Trip"
Fantastic Trip, a small delay when leaving Newhaven due to the increase in passengers from Dover (Operation Stack). Would recommend the option of a cabin as they are great little rooms to have a little sleep in. Food from the canteen was excellent, friendly staff and all round great trip. Well Recommended!
"Excellent crossing"
Just back from a trip to France - crossed from Newhaven to Dieppe - really very good. Ship smart and clean, staff good - and easy access to onward journey by arriving at Dieppe. Only gripe would be length of time to unload when you have been one of first on - had to wait for lower decks to be cleared. But everything else was really good.
"Like ferries used to be!"
We chose this ferry instead of Dover Calais as my family were getting more and more concerned about the hold-ups. We are P&O unit holders and travel to France every six weeks or so which made this crossing more expensive. The whole process is slower and on a more human scale. The staff are polite and un-stressed and the on- board French staff clearly enjoyed their work. We were pleasantly surprised by the lack of coach parties and the consequent availability of seating; which is often an issue on the Dover Calais route. The journey reminded us of the days of the old P&O Portsmouth/Le Havre crossing which always left us relaxed and ready to start our onward journey. The only problem we can see with making this our regular route is the availability of crossings at times we can make. Many thanks, David.
"A great service with one small problem..."
I love the service I received on DFDS. The staff were very helpful and the facilities were great. The load and unload was smooth and fast - so much nicer than flying! Booking the accommodation was the issue we had. We booked a cabin and then had to amend our booking to include our child. Once this was done however, it said that we didn't have a cabin anymore. We paid for the cabin and the amendment wouldn't have affected this part of our booking. Luckily staff were very helpful and found us a cabin but we were very disappointed by this and won't be booking with Direct Ferries again.
"Bonjour France "
We loved our relaxing journey to France on these comfortable ferries- a great start and end to the holiday. Delicious French catering and clear blue skies turned it into a mini cruise!
"dieppe to newhaven"
a pleasant voyage
"Newhaven Dieppe crossing"
very satisfied, despite there being a 2 hour delay. Would like better café facilities both in Newhaven and Dieppe. the ferry was clean and very good, except quite cold!
"New Experience"
What a great experience. I have used the Channel Tunnel for the past 15 Years, but my trip with DFDS was excellent and has changed my view on the way to travel to Rouen in France. Although it takes 1 hour longer door to door, the driving is 3 hours less and with booking a cabin, I was very refreshed when arrived in Dieppe.
"Great choice"
Great choice for us. Easy, efficient and very keenly priced. Took away all the stress about the tunnel/Dover.
"Newhaven to France"
Trouble free. We will come again and prefer your service. Thank you
"joys of NOT using Calais"
Quick and efficient boarding time. Deckies all very good , passenger areas fine. Food very good if a bit cool, Wine helped, as did smooth crossing both ways. Would use again...thanks SHW.
"Arrived refreshed "
Took the night crossing and arrived refreshed for the drive through France to Geneva. The cabin was clean and tidy. The shower made sure I was fully awake.
"Return crossing to France.....06/07/15"
Considerably cheaper than the competitors, in fact less than half price, and the service was just as good!. Well worth the extra miles to Newhaven compared with either Portsmouth or Poole. All staff were courteous and friendly, highly recommended.
"Rouen weekend"
Good trip over and although four hours long, the time went quickly and it placed us in the heart of Normandy. Had breakfast on the way out and an evening meal on the return. Both very good. Would travel on this service again.
"No problems whatsoever"
We have made this crossing several times and it is always quick and easy to book, smooth check in and a punctual service. As we travel early morning, we have breakfast on board and it is always excellent and good value.
"Good reasonable and pleasant"
Really reasonable comfortable pleasant journey I've not made for years, only took as an alternative to the chaos that is Calais / Dover but would certainly consider this service again
"Easy, pleasant journey"
The crossings to France and back were straightforward and comfortable - felt like part of our holiday. Wi fi on board would. Have made it even better
"Shall use again"
Great to be able to enquire if a cabin is available on-spec and pay there and then. Clean comfortable private space with shower and toilet. Shall definitely travel this way again.
"Crossing to France "
We have travelled on this service many times! Sometimes we have a cabin sometimes not ! But have always enjoyed the crossing day or night !! The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is always fresh and hot ,prices are reasonable too ! And always loads of room never seems overcrowded !! Would recommend them to anybody!!!
"Great experience"
Very easy to find and get on board. Will definately use this crossing again.
"Relaxing crossing"
We were pleasantly surprised ,both with the price and ease of boarding etc
"seven sistersvtravel"
Being a frequent user of this route, always it seems on Seven Sisters, I have found this route and service to be excellent. I do recommend this route to everyone I know.
"Beautiful crossings"
As it was such beautiful weather more seats needed outside, even better to have fixed seating outside.. Unlike Calais crossing we were able to relax and really enjoy the crossing. Although an old ship, tastefully decorated .
"Happy traveller"
Great staff, very helpful
"Comfortable and friendly"
Nice ship despite its age. Friendly staff. Needs more toilet facilties.
"Well done, et merci beaucoup, Direct Ferries!"
I wish to thank the patient, friendly, professional, relaxed yet highly efficient staff and crew of Direct Ferries, who made my recent trip from Newhaven to Dieppe a positive experience. After a series of extremely stressful, often poorly managed train rides with various British companies earlier in the day, the poised and extremely competent service of the Direct Ferries employees was especially welcome!
"would recommend this service"
Would recommend this service, boat was spacious & clean. Crew polite & helpful.
"French hols"
Quick and efficient and the best value crossing.
"Great travel option"
A longer ferry journey than some channel crossings but leaves time to relax and sit back. Great service, clean ship and good options for food and drink. Only down side was time to offload in newhaven on return. Over 40 minutes to get off the boat.
"Excellent service and on time"
From arriving at Newhaven, staff were polite and friendly. Quickly loaded on board, and unloaded on arrival
"Crossing 21st July 2015"
A quiet and comfortable crossing, the only disappointment was no WiFi !!!!
"A night time sailing with DFDS SEAWAYS."
We chose our DFDS SEAWAYS ferry crossing from a list of different operators supplied by the online firm DIRECT FERRIES. DFDS SEAWAYS was buy far the cheapest low cost, value for money quote ,far cheaper than any other company. We chose a night time crossing to get a lower cost crossing and were pleasantly surprised by the friendly professional service we received. We would and will gladly recommend DFDS to everyone . Thank you.
"Relax and enjoy the crossing"
A very comfortable ship -easy to get around. The parking arrangements are great. Plenty of room between cars and easy access to the upper decks. The staff are friendly and efficient. Food is well cooked and presented.
"Good Experience"
The staff were all friendly and helpful. The boat was comfortable and we enjoyed our journey.
"Excellent value for money. Smooth crossing and nice ferry!"
Excellent value for money. Smooth crossing and nice ferry!
"Holiday"
Very grateful to the very helpful staff on the midnight return ferry 11 June from Dieppe. My wife was unwell and the staff found us a quiet ace to sleep. Also the guys that direct traffic on board are excellent in both directions.
"Brilliant crossing"
We had a brilliant crossing the only thing is we wish you went to La Harve or Cean as this would have made our journey easier but we had good service while on board would defiantly tell our friends.
"Crossing to France"
Crossing was hassle free and comfortable
"A pleasant and well organised crossing. "
Boarding and disembarkation were smooth, unhurried and efficiently handled, leading to a relaxed and pleasant crossing both ways. On board facilities are good and clean, with comfortable room for all.
"Newhaven to Dieppe"
First time on this route - generally excellent and will use again but lack of WiFi on-board a nuisance as unable to do work.
"Good crossing"
The breakfast was a bit of a disappointment and there was quite a long queue. Otherwise pleasant crossing and plenty of seats.
"The four hour crossing"
A really easy crossing but eat before Newhaven or on the boat !
"Seven Sisters"
First time I have used this route. The only fault for me was the seats, I could not get comfortable. This was the cheapest crossing available and it saved me driving time in France. Staff and crew were friendly and helpful. We were warned it could be a rough crossing but no one seemed to notice! I will use this crossing again
"pleasent trip "
We travelled on the seven sisters and considering most traffic was haulage we found the ship and staff very pleasent
"Fine crossing"
Nice crossing despite rough seas. Food was good, coffee a bit weak.
"Newhaven - Dieppe April 2015"
Nice and easy. Very smooth boarding. Although the ship was showing obvious signs of its age, it did the job and got me there!
"Satisfied customer"
Thanks for an efficient service, at reasonable cost. Large, comfortable ferry, but the PA system could be improved in clarity -- we found the announcements difficult to understand. Overall though, we are satisfied customers and will use your service again. Thank you.
"Overcoming Pet Passport Problems"
In spite of the fact that we have traveled back to UK with our two dogs on their pet passports, a simple mistake by a vet was picked up by the DFDS check in person which led to us missing our ferry, spending half the night in an hotel before reporting back at 0430 in time for the next ferry. It also involved a visit to a local vet in dieppe to have a UK vet's certificate, faxed to the DFDS office, authenticated by him. All this on the direction of DFRA. I cannot say enough about the help given by the lady who checked us in and the lady in reception at Dieppe. They organised the local vet visit and booked our hotel. Don't know their names but they need a pat on the back. The crossing was uneventful on a beautiful calm sunny day.
"Dieppe to Newhaven"
Took the early morning trip with my Camper. Cheap, cheerful and on time. I'd go that way again.
"Trip to dieppe"
A very noisy trip both ways with out of control children, staff did their best to calm them down but it was a little to late. Over all very pleased
"Very Pleasant"
A very pleasant experience apart from check-in.I had not used a ferry in Europe for many years and things have changed so i walked to the ferry terminal the day before my trip to pick up my ticket where I was asked by some far eastern female (she told me she was from that area) for my ID card so I gave her my debit card which I had used to pay for the trip. She said no I want your ID card this is just a blue card.I said English people do not have ID cards-she said I did not know you were English as it is not written on your forehead. She then demanded my passport saying something about controlling me. Passports are for immigration purposes and not for uniformed clerks! She really needs to work on her attitude and her weight!
"Good crossing"
First time from Dieppe to Newhaven. Good service, arrived on time but took nearly an hour to unload in Newhaven.
"Voyage"
Excellent crossing, going we had a cabin which was very reasonably sized the only downside was people knocking on the wall & we could hear them talking. For the return we had an excellent crossing, food & drinks very good & comfortable.
"Recent use of ferries to France, Greece & Crete"
Everything went smoothly apart from difficulty finding check in at Brindisi & Piraeus
"Channel Ferry"
Quick,efficient and economic
"Ferry trip Dieppe to Newhaven"
Please Direct Ferries can you please look at putting the post code for the ferry terminal on the confirmation sheet so your customers can put it straight into their satnav. The trip its self was fine apart from slightly over priced food and drink but on arrival at Newhaven the loading ramp was out of action so we all had to sit there for another 30-40 minutes while it was repaired. Not a huge problem in its own but to sit there having to look at the Newhaven ferry terminal with its tatty roof and a broken down portacabin was embarrassing for us Brits. Please get someone to dispose of the cabin and see if they can tidy up the building. I maybe Scottish but I'm also proud to be British.
"Trajet Newhaven-Dieppe"
At a price that blew all the competion out of the water, we had good meals and comfortable seating. It's just a pity though, as with all cross channel ferries, the provision of a comfortable and economic sleeping facilities does not exist for those who cannot afford a cabin on the overnight crossing. A rethink on the Recliner Seats is desperately needed; very few people can sleep in them, most opt for whatever floor space is available.
"Good value"
Used this crossing to take a van to and from France. Booking in, loading and offloading were very efficient and the cabins we were allocated were fine although the shower/toilet smelled slightly on both crossings - maybe because both of them were quite rough and there had probably been a lot of cleaning to do between crossings. Being a smaller boat than some, it was not quite as stable in the rough weather as those on other crossings. There was the usual annoyance of the cabin card key failing to work until the tenth attempt and the premature rush to have you out of the cabins well before there was a need to go down to the car deck. Food was probably OK but,in spite of our intention to eat on board, it looked decidedly unappetising so we settled for a cup of machine coffee instead. Overall an OK crossing providing good value but not one where you could say "Our holiday starts here"
"crossings september 2014"
We use DFDS regularly though first time on Seven Sisters. Service was excellent. Embarcation and disembarcation was very fast and efficient. Ship and cabin very clean and the staff helpful. Thankyou to all concerned.
"Overnight to Le Havre"
Great trip, we sailed out at 11pm so booked a cabin which proved to be well worthwhile. The ferry was well run at check in, clean and tidy, all the staff were excellent, extremely helpful and polite. Food and drink was tasty and reasonably priced. The cabin was clean, with a good shower and facilities. Our home trip sailed at 5pm back to the UK, super crossing, again great service, and very organised, we will definitely use this service again.
"Applies to outward and return trips"
Quality of food not as good as expected. Quality of accomodation very good
"Hassle free return trip"
We went out on the overnight to Le Havre, very smooth crossing and returned on the late afternoon (1700) both crossings were hassle free and we enjoyed the trip. not much else to say really, staff were good, cabins and open areas clean and tidy, onboard information good. Wi Fi would be a welcome addition.
"Good experience on both trips"
We took the Portsmouth to La Havre (overnight) and day return the next week. In both cases we booked outside cabins which were clean and tidy. Both journeys were exactly on time (departing and arriving) with efficient loading and offloading. We did not visit the restaurant mainly due to the limited hot meal selection. All in all we were pleasantly surprised this being our first long ferry trip (we usually us Eurotunnel)
"Maybe Only Once"
I have nothing bad to say about the ship itself or her crew. They were friendly and courteous, from the men moving the cars onto the ferry, to the crew on deck. The food was decent, if bland for my taste, and plentiful. Prices on board weren't as bad as I feared. The ship departed and arrived promptly, and the ferry service was fast and efficient. It was a rough crossing, very choppy, and for some mysterious reason many of the toilet stalls were locked. This led, later in the voyage, to vomit being left unflushed in the toilets that *were* open. Vomit in the seats, too, that the poor crew were trying desperately to clean up quickly, rubber gloves and all. The men's toilets began to reek when you passed. Thank goodness I'm female. My main complaint is about the passengers. For some reason Brits seem to feel that their children should be allowed to run amok in the lounges, even though there was a play area with a film showing. Despite it being a rough crossing, by the fourth hour of the 5-hour voyage, there were children running up and down the staircases, sliding down the bannisters, and horsing around in front of the gift shop, with nary a parent in view. There didn't seem to be any crew members to monitor the children (or their parents) and get them off the stair rails. I must stress, the water was very rough, the ship was bucking and rolling, and people were letting kids as young as four or five muck about on the stairs while this was happening. I kept hoping one of them would fall off and hurt himself slightly so the parents would pay attention. So, in a nutshell. Ship? Good. Crew? Good. Facilities? As much as can be expected on a ferry. More open toilet stalls would have been a good idea considering how rough the seas were. The passengers? It's understandable that Brits have such a poor reputation overseas. Their lack of attendance to their kids was shameful. And dangerous. So next time, maybe I'll make the long drive back up to Calais and take the Chunnel instead.
"Good crossing"
Ships loading efficient, cabins clean and roomy, cafe and bar OK. Only problem, it took a long time to disembark.
" Le Havre to Portsmouth & return"
One of the best cross-channel ferry experiences we have had in a number of years. From the moment of boarding we found the staff extremely friendly and helpful. Despite a late departure from Portsmouth on the return journey we arrived at Le Havre on schedule.
"Noisy kids!"
Comfortable lounge seats BUT children's play area immediately next to lounge seats where people are trying to sleep is not a good idea!
"Comments"
The ship is in need of a makeover. It's impossible to reduce the brightness (like in a plane) The disembarkment of the cars is long
"Seven Sisters - overnight travel"
I recommend this ship mainly for the very competitive cost of travel to France. It is however kept back from being excellent by the poor bar service (too few serving) and the lack of bar food which had run out shortly after sailing. Also the ship decor appears to be a little tired and needs uprating. Overall a pleasant experience.
"Not necessarily the right crossing if you have a long onward drive"
Be warned, there are no benches on the boat, only hard upright chairs! So if you're thinking you can get some decent sleep before a long onward drive, then you either need to fork out for a cabin, fight for a more comfortable seat in the TV viewing area or come prepared: those in the know had brought bed rolls, li-los and even a hammock! The rest of us slept fitfully or semi-sleepwalked round the boat. The staff were very friendly, though. And the route and timing makes sense for many onward journeys.
"Afternoon crossing to Portsmouth"
We booked a cabin. Easy check-in. Cabin was clean. All staff were friendly and helpful. A very good service at a reasonable price.
"a beautiful crossing"
Departure and arrival on schedule. The boat was confortable. The mens toilets were defective during both crossings
"The Cheaper Alternative"
The last time I travelled on this route was with LD Lines and this was quite luxurious but this is the no-frills alternative. Seats in the lounges were big but not totally comfortable especially on the overnight crossing so any sleep you can get is a bonus. Facilities were quite good and the cafeteria reasonably priced compared to some other ferries so all in all it offers a good alternative especially if you are heading towards the South West because of the time saved in driving. Will be using again.
"The bags were delayed and the bus was in a hurry"
It was well organised. The staff was very nice and the sea was calm. However, the trailers with the luggages were 20 minutes late for the inbound crossing. The bus left and I had to pay a taxi.
"excellent crossing"
Cannot fault the service and efficiency of the staff, both on and off the ship. The crossing was an enjoyable experience and a really nice way to start and finish a holiday. Prices for food and drinks on board were reasonable and the seats were very comfortable. I highly recommend Transmarche Ferries.
"Disembarkement"
After a pleasant crossing it took the crew about 40 minutes before I could disembark. And after this -not the company's fault- the officer of the border control let me 45 minutes waiting before he checked my passport extensively (as he did with everyone in front of my car). An hour and a half after the vessel had moored I could continue my journey in England.
"Newhaven to Dieppe"
We found the trip was very good. The staff were very professional and loaded us onto the ferry very well. The compartment was sufficient for what we needed however it would have been nice if we had a radio or portable tv in the unit. The return trip however was a little different at the end. The stewardess kept us there until all the foot passengers were off and this caused the cars and lorries to be delayed.
"August weekend travel OK, but boats were incredibly hot and toilets not good"
I travelled out on Saturday 10 August and returned Sunday 18 August, both boats were on time(ish) and boarding was efficient and easy. Both there and back the boats were very hot with a lack of ventilation. On the return journey nearly all toilets were out of order or unusable. The crew/staff were all very courteous and helpful, particularly in the on-board shop. The restaurant food was good, but, as expected, a bit pricey.
"Holiday start and holiday finish"
Polite and helpful crew. Very comfortable seating. Easy to drive on and off. Very relaxing. Hot drinks a little expensive. Public address system a little distorted in its sound quality.
"Newhaven Dieppe"
Excellent trip just like a cruise ship.
"2 June 2013 crossing"
The crossing went well, no major problems. Only some blocked toilets (not all of them), but these things happen. For that price, I am satisfied. There are everything on board to eat…
"Good crossing"
Very good and smooth crossing, but coffee was expensive, and it took a long time to disembark both going and coming back. I couldn't hear the announcements very clearly so was confused as to whether to queue to get back to my car.
"Crossing"
If travelling with kids I would recommend taking food. The buffet restaurant food for children I found to be poor and the food was cold by the time we got to our tables, luckily they provide microwaves to heat it up. Our crossing back was very rough and the ferry very busy. The children played in the soft play area and people complained about the noise. They were being no louder than would be expected of 2-4 yr olds playing in a designated soft play area. I do think there should be signs up by seats the play area warning warning people who sits on nearby seats that there is a children play area nearby and to expect associated noise.
"Crossing from Newhaven to dieppe"
All fine as usual
"Not sure we shall use Transmanche Ferries again"
We were very disappointed with our journey to Newhaven on the evening of 21 June. We both had a meal at the restaurant which was of very poor quality. My husband had fish and chips - the batter was very hard and unappetising. I had Boeuf Bourginonne which was more like a school dinner stew. The chips were far too large. The cutlery is horribly cheap and nasty. After a long journey from where we live, it was very disappointing. And with some very synthetic puddings, one small bottle of wine and a fruit juice, the bill was over 30 euros!! Then when we arrived at Newhaven, we were called to our cars. We sat in semi-darkness and fumes on the car deck, for around half an hour. There was no information at all about the delay which was the worst thing. People with children and animals must have had an awful time. Why do passengers get called down so early when you are clearly not ready for car drivers to disembark? Also if there is a problem (which we appreciate can happen with the lorries) then surely some sort of an apology could be given, even when we were leaving the ship. We doubt whether we will use Transmanche Ferries again which is a shame as Dieppe - Newhaven is the most convenient route for us.
"New ferry company for us"
Route and company was chosen because of very competitive price. Times of sailing on outward journey suited us really well, our return timing was very early morning - not good - but it was all that was left on the day we had to travel. Loading and unloading went smoothly and took about half an hour each time and the staff were helpful. The food and drinks were fine, but a bit expensive. The boats were not luxurious, but more than adequate, they did the job for a good price - therefore value for money.
"Our Dieppe-Newhaven crossing"
A returned crossing with a competent staff, 2 very confortable boats.
"A beautiful crossing"
A very pleasant crossing. However, bring a blanket as it can get chillly at 5.30am!
"Newhaven to Dieppe"
Everything went well from check in, to parking on-board, to finding comfy seats with a 2 and 4 year old on tow. What else made the journey pleasant was the young lady from the self service that stopped to speak to our 4 year old, a lovely thing to do. Real good customer service. However, the young gentleman at the bar well i have never seen such bad manners and such an attitude if in England i would write and complain to a hotel with such poor and in polite customer service. Otherwise very happy and will use them again avoiding the bar.
"Pleasant Trip"
You get what you expect really. Nothing too much to complain about. Perhaps the ferry could have WiFi or television to keep people occupied.
"Dieppe Newhaven crossing"
Good value for money, good prestations on board, nothing to report regarding the formalities before and after boarding. The staff is welcoming and professional. The car and its passengers were treated well, RAS. There were some seats which were blocked in their up or in their down positions. However, as it was a week day, there were a lot of free seats. The WIFI wasn't woking or was working poorly according to the staff. Moreover, it's not free. This could be improved with a better internet speed and a free connection...because it's a 4 and a half hour journey. We're glad that we tried this journey, as Brighton is close and beautiful.
"Dieppe Newhaven crossing"
A very good crossing both inbound and outbound. We would recommend this company.
"satisfaction"
I am very satisfied with the prestations, the trip is done in very good conditions, the staff is charming, friendly. I travel regularly and the next time, my wife and baby will come with as everything is provided on board.
"Seven Sisters"
My travel on board the Seven Sisters went smoothly and punctually. As a pedestrian traveller, I had feared beforehand to have difficulties in finding my way etc. but from check-in in Newhaven to passport control in Dieppe, we were always provided with the necessary information and/or accompanied so that one couldn't get lost. Another positive point were the security announcements on leaving Newhaven harbour. All in all, it was a good travel experience.
"Easy trip"
Nice boat, easy trip, water like glass. Only issue is that one cannot access the bow region of this boat.
" Newhaven and Dieppe with Transmanche Ferries on the Seven Sisters"
Toilets really need attention, otherwise ferry OK for the price. Shop closing for long lunch is out of step with UK expectations Ferry left Newhaven 30 mins late The afternoon Dieppe sailing would be much better one hour earlier.
"journey to dieppe"
Very pleasant trip, friendly staff, clean ship. I will travel with them again.
"our boat trip"
a little disappointed on the return leg, once we had docked at Newhaven we sat in the car an hour before we could get off the boat, we were up on deck five, a lot of people were very unhappy, then beyond your control customs seemed to be on a go slow another long wait. It was also late arriving at Newhaven. Apart from that outward journey was fine.
""
Very nice crossing. On time. See you!
"Excellent value for money"
Excellent value for money. Crossed as a pedestrian
"Confidence restored in ferry travel"
We travelled as a family group of eight ranging in ages from 9 months to 68 years and every one of us thoroughly enjoyed our passage from Newhaven to Dieppe and back again, a week later. The facilities aboard The Seven Sisters, the name of our ship, were excellent; the grandchildren spent a lot of their time socialising in the Ball Pit, and the bars, restaurants and shop were all well stocked and served by helpful and cheerful staff and met the requirements of all of us. We booked one outside cabin as a ''bolt-hole', which was very nice indeed and more spacious than we expected but we had no need to use it on either journey. It is a spacious ship and going for a wander about the decks, was a pleasure; we were lucky to have beautiful weather on both voyages and to stand outside on the upper deck was exhilerating. We were warned of rougher weather on our return journey but we did not notice it; I did read in the info, prior to going, that the ships (two of them on this route) were fitted with state of the art stabilisers, (or something like that!) so that must make a difference, I'm sure. We have not travelled by ferry for years as sea-sickness was a bit of a lasting memory from we last travelled from Portsmouth but this experience reminded us of the fun and pleasure that it can be; we are now thinking about when we can go again, from Newhaven.
"a good experience"
Although initially intending to travel from Portsmouth to Caen, due to circumstances beyond our control my elderly mother and myself travelled from Newhaven to Dieppe. The crossing was punctual, the check-in staff very efficient and helpful in arranging for our car to be near the staircase. Although the on-board entertainment/shop etc are not very exciting, and the restaurant facilities fairly basic, we felt it represented good value for money - apart from the cabins, which seemed extortionately priced, and which we therefore did not bother with.
"Trip to Newhaven"
We finished up travelling from Dieppe to Newhaven because we had a car accident at Le Mans and so we were travelling unexpectedly without a car. The waiting room in Dieppe was pleasant and we were helped in every way by the staff. The trip on the boat was pleasant. There was plenty of space, good food and helpful staff. Altogether an enjoyable experience which we will repeat.
"Resting room"
The chairs of the resting rooms are sometimes damages and the areas are not sufficiently soundproof: we are distrubed by the movement of passengers, the slamming of the toilet doors and the children room which is too close. Switch off TVs are welcome.
"Good crossing"
The crossing went well, fast loading, time, ferry own no worries about the logistics. Regarding the service on board, improvements could be made: More sandwiches mid crossing gaming machines were down and a small smile of the bar staff are ideal for excellent crossing.
"Newhaven - Dieppe 10/05/2013"
Enjoy the trip to Dieppe. Staff were pleasant and very helpful.
"Nice staff"
Nice trip and good staff and crew.
"Congratulations"
Very good crossing between Newhaven and Dieppe. Despite a rough sea being forecast, it wasn't the case or the captain is really an expert!
"Temperature"
Hello, the crossings went very well, one issue we had on both journeys was the very cold air that came from the ceiling vents, which tempered our trip.
"Variable food quality, disembarkation delays."
We have taken this ferry on a number of occasions, and want to do so again. BUT the quality of catering can vary: on the most recent trip were ordered fish and chips which were of poor quality. We asked for these shortly after the kitchens opened on the outward crossing. I later realised that we had probably been served re-heated portions from an earlier crossing, because I saw other clients with much healthier looking portions of both the fish and chips - ours were dry and hard. At £20 for two, that's not good enough. On the outward journey our disembarkation was much delayed and no reason given - some 40 minutes or so I would guess, much of it spent waiting in the car. Our return journey was efficient and quite speedy.
"Great Service!"
Lovely ship, when you get to the port just park up in line and wait for the gates to open if you have your booking confirmation print out. Don't be fooled by the sign at Newhaven that shows 'FAST FERRIES' there are no different speeds to choose from.
"Newhaven Dieppe."
Trip was OK in both ways. It does take a bit long getting in and out of the ship. It is a very basic ferry, don't expect much, very noisy when manoeuvring in the harbour staff were friendly.
"No problem"
The ferry left on time and arrived on time so no complaints really. Embarkation was fairly quick but it is not a huge ferry. The only thing I would say they could improve is information given over the microphone. People don't articulate and i find it hard to understand in both French and English languages. I took the ferry on LD lines on my way back and things were said very clearly.
"Great sailing as usual!"
Great value for our money! Quick and pleasant journey! Only tiny problem with the food! Wish there was more sandwiches like self service type of food rather than canteen type!
"My crossing"
Lovely crossing, food way over priced, and not very nice. Cabins were great. It's a shame the boat looks shabby in places, and the toilets are too small.
"good trip"
Timings were good, loaded on time, the trip was a little rough but the ship and the crew handled it very well, the crew weere friendly, all in all a enjoyable trip.
"Lovely trip"
Family short-break holiday to France was enhanced by a lovely crossing both ways. Helpful staff in the restaurant and good quality food at prices you would expect (not cheap but not excessive). Booked a cabin both ways - which was great and helped us catch up on our sleep. Very clean and would highly recommend. Only negative was that we departed 30 minutes late from Dieppe with no explanation.....but we were on holiday!
"Newhaven to Dieppe crossing with Trans Manche"
Wanted to spend a few days over the Easter with friends in France without breaking the bank and found this route from Newhaven to Dieppe, as well as being the closest to home (Tonbridge) was also the cheapest. Check in was relatively quick and we were on board and on our way without any undue delay. The 4 hour crossing passed quite quickly which was good if like me, you don't have "sea legs". On the return journey unfortunately there was a "technical fault" delaying our departure by 2 and 3 quarter hours, but we were given food vouchers as we boarded the ship for a hot meal and drink which was decent of them. Despite the return league also being the "most choppy" the captain made good time and docked back in Newhaven 3 quarters of an hour early.
"Pleasant trip"
I travelled with some friends. Departed for Newhaven at 5:30 in the morning, be better if left a bit later. The ship left 45 mins late but still arrived on time! The crew were rather pleasant too. For €40 quality of travel is modest.
""
We arrived only 8 minutes before ferry departure, everything was done so that we could get on the ferry, thanks to the company.
"Amazing ferry!"
We travel to Block island in the USA by ferry, so we expected something like it for our crossing. We were so amazed to see your ferry. It looked like a cruise ship. We loved our 4 hour crossing, very delightful.
"A relaxing cruise"
I used the Newhaven-Dieppe route for the first time recently and found the whole experience enjoyable. The ports are less busy and unhurried; the ship very clean and smart; the service and staff polite, helpful and pleasant. The journey time of four hours, although twice that of Dover runs, passed easily and when I travelled the price was very competitive. I saved 140 miles each way on my trip to Basse Normandy so not only was this the most enjoyable trip I've made, it made for shorter time at the wheel and lower fuel cost. Many thanks.
"Newhaven to Dieppe"
This is the first time I have used this Route. An excellant service at Newhaven and On-board provided for both crossings. Due to the heavy snow falling in France I managed to arrive one day early for the return crossing to the UK.
"Crossing from Dieppe to Newhaven"
Superb crossing from Dieppe, clean, welcoming ship. Cafeteria good if not a little expensive
"An easy trip"
We enjoyed our recent sailing from Newhaven to Dieppe with Transmanche ferries. Check-in was swift and pain free, the ship was well equipped and staff were helpful and friendly, it was very good value for money. Thank you
"Bicycle storage"
I travelled on the Seven Sisters on Saturday September 15th 2012 (5.30 sailing). Everything was great apart from one detail, which is still rather important. The bikes are kept in a place at the rear of the boat in unacceptable conditions: wooden pallets, scrap, rusted and twisted ropes and bikes are piled on top of each other! I was hoping during the whole crossing that my bike, worth 2000€, wasn't damaged. Miraculously it remained intact. Hopefully these conditions will be improved.
"Inefficient"
I have travelled with LD lines on a number of occasions between Newhaven and Dieppe. The 'at sea ' time is about 3.5 hours but if you include loading/unloading it can be up to 5 hours of queueing/waiting/sailing. This week for instance on arrival in Newhaven we were asked to go to our car deck to disembark and then waited for almost 1 hour before moving off - every other van/truck on the vessel went first. Furthermore, I did not think that the boat was particularly clean or tidy on this occasion and the food was overpriced and underwhelming. I live close to Newhaven so the sailing is convenient but the standards are slipping and I may consider going elsewhere.
"Foot Passengers Treated like Cattle"
The good bits: The ship left and arrived on time. Seating comfortable. The less good bits: Staff somewhat "jobsworth"; fine until something happens which upsets the routine - like a fellow passenger who wanted to pay for tea and coffee separately in sterling and Euros (yes she was awkward, but the bar staff had no idea how to accommodate her); or consenting to give me tap water in a glass rather than a plastic cup. The still less good bits: one of the lights failed in one of the toilets on the journey out to Dieppe on the Friday. On the journey back on the Sunday it still hadn’t been repaired. The really bad bits: 45 minutes of faffing about at either end, whilst the foot passengers queued up to be herded through one door, then out of another door, penned up like cattle out of doors - no seats, no cover (and three steps down with no wheelchair ramp) - looking at an empty bus for twenty minutes, then on to the bus - which then travelled 300 yards - off the bus again. At this point I was fully expecting to see a white rabbit disappear into the car deck. It was so bad, it was actually funny. Staff seemed to be making everything up as they went along, but with no real ability to improvise. When I finally burst out laughing at the sheer absurdity of it all, I got a look from a staff member, so murderous, I really wondered whether I was safe. I suppose that foot passengers are a damned nuisance to the company. They’re still paying passengers, who deserve a decent service. Transmanche really does need to re-think this whole process. Oh, and signs at both terminals showing the way to the town, and to the station would be handy. Of course, allowing foot passengers to arrive at Newhaven Harbour station, rather than Newhaven Town would solve almost every problem. I get the sense that Transmanche is a profoundly badly managed company, with managers who do not have much imagination, and who, I suspect, regard both passengers and their staff as objects of the gravest suspicion, rather than really wanting to support either one or the other. A shame, because popping across to Dieppe could be a really nice thing to do. I won’t be doing it again for a very long time. (And the food in the self-service restaurant is pretty so-so.)
"Welcoming ferry - pleasant trip!"
Me and my cousin decided to cycle from Paris to London for a charity organisation. We crossed the channel on board the Seven Sisters on May 6th 2012. The staff on board were very welcoming: on the deck garage, at the cafeteria and the reception we experienced service with a smile and all efforts were made to ensure our trip was as pleasant as possible. Thank you to Directferries, Miss Chapin and the Seven Sisters' crew for supporting us in our sporting challenge for the charity organisation SOS Children's Villages.
