Toulon Ile Rousse Ferry reviews

  • "Very comfortable trip"

Very efficient system. Check-in, lane control and boarding was surprisingly quick and well ahead of sailing time. I love the fact that you are allocated your cabin number at check-in and are told to go straight to the cabin, therefore avoiding long queues at reception. Plenty of seating, several restaurants and bars to choose from, childrens' play area to keep te little ones occupied. I had a basic, inside cabin and it was more than adequate. The bed was really comfortable and the shower excelleht. I had a great night's sleep, refreshed and ready for the days' work ahead. Importantly, all on schedule. The only two things I would suggest could be improved is the quality of the food at the self-service buffet, where you have to line up with your hot foot to pay, which means that by the time you get to your table, it is cold, and tghe quality could be better. The ship was clean, to a degree, but there is room for improvement. On the whole, a very happy customer.

Toulon Guide

The French city of Toulon lies on the Mediterranean Sea coast in the south of France. It is a major French naval base and consequently has a large military harbour which is home to the French Navy aircraft carrier Charles De Gaulle and her battle group along with the rest of the French Mediterranean Fleet. Toulon's history has strong links with many industries including shipbuilding, wine making, armaments, paper, maps, shoes, electronic equipment and the manufacture of aeronautical equipment.

Toulon's Old Town is located between the port, the Boulevard de Strasbourg and the Cours Lafayette, and is characterised by narrow streets, fountains and small squares and is where the city's cathedral is located. Selling local produce every morning, the area is also home to the popular Provencal market. Unfortunately the area fell into disrepair during the 1980's and 1990's but fortunately many of the town's fountains and squares have since been restored which has attracted many new shops to open up.

The city's port has two ferry terminals and has good passenger facilities including cafes, vending machines, a snack bar, toilets and long stay and short stay car parking. Ferry services operating from the port depart to Ajaccio, Bastia, Ile Rousse and Civitavecchia.

Ile Rousse Guide

L'ile-Rousse is a town that lies on a beautiful bay in the Balagne region of north western Corsica and has lovely white sandy beaches and is known for its red porphyry islets, which give the town its name. The town is one of the areas nicest places to visit and aside from its beaches it is surrounded by beautiful hills and mountains. Streets in the old town are named after people such as Pascal Paoli, Napoleon and Louise Phillippe and are lovely to stroll along and tend to be located around the town's main square, Place Paoli, which is shaded by lovely old Plain trees.

For the best views of the town it is best to head north to the Ile de la Pietra, and then on to the lighthouse. At sunset, the setting of the town against the red granite backdrop, is a stunning view. Also in this area is a Genoese watchtower which is also popular with visitors.

Located close to L'Ile-Rousse is the village of Monticello which is surrounded by olive trees and has charming small streets, ancient buildings, imposing houses, chapels, archaeological sites and walking paths. The village also offers one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Corsica.
