Unlike many Greek holiday destinations, the island of Naxos doesn’t just rely on its warm climate and wonderful beaches to attract visitors, although many tourists could be excused an extended stay on the golden sands next to crystal waters. The island is inundated with historical sites, the most popular being the iconic 6th Century BC marble gate on the islet of Palatia in Naxos harbour. Other notable historical landmarks are the Church of Panagia Drossiani and the Venetian Museum. For a wealth of history and culture, the old town is the perfect place to spend a whole day exploring the unique buildings and quietly quaint streets. As well as the old town, Portara offers remarkable architecture that overlooks the sea and the town, making it the ideal spot for enviable photos.

What is there to do in Schinoussa?

The Cyclades is formed by incredibly beautiful islands, and Schinoussa may just be the most stunning of them all. Made up of two small villages, Schinoussa boasts a breathtaking landscape, comprising of endless mountainside, desolate beaches and naturally green valleys. Even amidst the onrush of tourism, the island still appears unaffected by the constant visitors; the streets are clean and the terrain exudes an authentic vibe. The harbour is particularly idyllic – the windless air creates a natural haven for mooring small boats in stunning surroundings. Like many Greek islands, the beaches hold much of the limelight for visitors; golden sands define the shoreline and azure blue waters often prove too tempting underneath the rays of the scorching sunshine. Psili Ammos Beach and Livadi Beach are the most popular, lined with beach bars along the perimeter and shops slightly more inland for any last minute purchases. To explore the surrounding water, boat tours are available for a relaxing experience amid beautiful scenery.
