Operated by Jadrolinija on the Ancona Split route
Purchased from Stena line in the eighties and formally known as the Stena Nordica, Jadrolinija renamed the ship Marko Polo. Being 5 decks high and 128 metres in length, the Marko Polo can hold up to 1100 passengers and 270 vehicles in its garages. On board Marko Polo you will find a vast array of amenities for people of all ages to enjoy such as a children’s play area, large coffee bar with a dance floor, a sit down restaurant with 222 seats, chapel and a duty free shop.
There are around 150 cabins on board Marko Polo which can host up to 551 of its passengers. The cabins range from standard 2 or 4 berth cabins inside and outside (sea view) to the 3 and 4 berth couchettes with lounge seating.
All international ferries have lifts leading from the car deck to the passenger deck.
Please Note: Whilst we have taken great care in making our Marko Polo guide as accurate as possible, onboard facilities, services and entertainment may vary depending on the date and time of year that you travel, facilities mentioned may change without notification and ferry companies reserve the right to operate vessels other than those mentioned at time of booking without prior notification.

"Disappointed "
Very disorganised loading and unloading and ship very crowded. We were in ferry 2.5 hours before departure. People scrabbling for seats. Not enough so lying sitting on floors. We booked a meal but expensive and cold food self service. The disembarking was awful! Couldn’t understand the announcement so went to sand stairway and waited 30 mins in queue not moving. Four passengers told to go to from stairwell and then vehicle passengers also same one! Took another half hour to get to car deck! Chaos there with drivers missing! . ! Won’t travel again with that line.
"How much"
Pros - got us from Split to Ancona. Cons. - very expensive for a 11 hour crossing The ship is 50 year old and very tired, needs total refurb or scrapping Parking do close to each other is a nightmare.
"Nostalgic trip back in time of Yougoslavia"
Everything, ship, facilities, staff, uniforms, food onboard, cabin, decor, is coming directly from Tito time. Unfortunately we are in 2022…
"Smooth trip .. No hassles, off peak "
First time travelling from Ancona ( Italy) to Split ( croatia). OVerall the trip was smooth and much enjoyed. Especially as it catered for a over night travel which allowed me to sleep during. The Check In Process was a bit tricky in Ancona side, Some pre instructions for awareness would have been appreciated. Other than that, the trip went very smooth. Boarding the car and settling into cabin was smooth. The private ensuite shower with cabin was ridiculous as the toilet doubles as the shower cubicle which is just not practical when you can just about close the door to use the toilet. That said, nice to have a private toilet. The ship was bang on time for departure and arrival and disembarking was smooth also. Would use again and thank you for offering the travel option.
"Very basic but we did get to our destination safely."
The cabins were clean but it was difficult to sleep as the trip was noisy, despite being a calm night. The breakfast was risible (can't remember what we paid for it in advance but it if was more than a couple of pounds we were riptted off). There is no way on board you can get drinking water without buying a bottle.
"Split to Ancona "
Straightforward crossing but cabin overpriced and in desperate need of refurbishment. Mattress very uncomfortable. Had to get light repaired. Shower good but smelly.
"Considering ship built in 1973"
Considering the ship was built in 1973 , it’s incredible that it is still running !
"Poor facilities"
Having travelled on numerous ferries in the past this must be the worst. There was nowhere to get any food. Drinks were limited to coffee and pop Never again. It should be destined to the scrapheap
"Zadar to Ancona"
Day crossing was fine but it was annoying as a foot passenger to have a two hour check in and then wait in th.e ticket hall for an hour.
"Horrible experience "
Worst ferry ride ever and extremely rude staff, was told to bring the car to line up at 5pm then once I brought the car was told 6pm then 7pm, overall worst experience ever, nasty unclean cabins no hygiene.
"Boarding"
Like others we went straight to the ship not to passenger terminal. The confirmation email needs directions with a map of the port and full explanation of time needed and tge process
"Many disappointments "
The snack bars and restaurants were cash only, which inconvenienced many, and the prices were extortionate. The aircon was either not working or working poorly for most of the journey, and the seating—compared to many other ferries in Greece, for example—is generally uncomfortable. My only positive comment is that the ferry was on time.
"Good, but lots of useless administration "
The process to get the ticket from the emailed booking confirmation is a nightmare. It takes hours, and is totally unnecessary. They are just using the same info you already provided them with while booking once more. Cash must be used onboard. Otherwise comfortable and convenient passage.
"Quick Transfer"
Ship is generally ok, quality of food soso (would not take breakfast buffet again), esp unloading the cars was a bit of a mess and took unnecessary long
"Disgusting, would not recommend"
The boat and our room stunk like old mixed with poo. The food was disgusting and I would not recommend anyone take this boat unless you want to be sick.
"Shambolic ferry trip"
Right from the offset, it was a shambles. The email said that an electronic boarding was sufficient but it’s not, we ordered an outside cabin but got an internal one, the loading was disorganised we were one hour late departing, the food was a farce with a waiter telling us that we had had our main dish when we hadn’t and so when it came it was only vegetables, we gave up waiting for a desert. The cabin was ok I but I’ve got hand towels bigger than the towel supplied for showering. On a positive note, watching the crew rope handling coming alongside was entertaining; were all the crewing trainees????
"Professional and friendly staff"
From making a reservation to changing a reservation there were no difficulties with the way it was handled with competent and friendly staff both on the phone and at the terminal desk. The staff on the ground at the ferry terminal were friendly and informative. I felt the safety of the foot passengers was at risk during the loading of the lorries and vehicles. As all we’re entering at the same time with little control. Great that there was a lift to the cabin floor. I was very happy that the ship was pet friendly. I would have liked if there was an area closer to the cabins that I could take my pet to urinate. However two floors up on deck was the only place which I could find. There was no mop available there. I did notice on the corridors that the carpet had been stained by urine from some pets. I felt sad about this as it may be cause to prohibit pets in the future. A little bit more organization may be needed for a pet area with cleaning equipment for pet owners. All and all a great crossing friendly competent and professional staff throughout.
"Good trip"
Really small ship compared to others I travel with. Staff was kind and helpful, multilangual and funny. Small cabin, we could not sleep in the outbound journey because it was really noisy inside, in the return one we received another cabin and we slept well. Very punctual company. For who like me is travelling with kids I recommend the external cabin beacuse is big and you have space for the travel cot. You should improve the breakfast, there is nothing sweet only salty food.
"all ok"
It was a good journey, good cabin, if you do not suffer beacuse of the sea you can sleep!
"First to arrive, first to leave"
The Ancona-Split journey was excellent, depsite the rough sea we slept a bit in the cabin. The most difficoult thing was the car boarding and landing. Parking was too difficoult for us, you shoul be more helpful with older people. Apart from that all good, there are not bars, but you can always bring with you something to eat. If you want there is a restaurant with reasonable prices.
"Comfortable trip saving many road kilometres"
We had a very smooth crossing with good service from all staff plus a comfortable cabin. Food and wine reasonably priced but not outstandingly imaginative. We would use similar ferries again to save long road trips.
"Everything ok"
I travelled on a night crossing from Ancona to Split at h19.00. We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant on board (cheap and generous portions). We spent the night with some friends at the bar, resting on the benches available. Our experience was very positive, the staff on board helpful and kind. The toilet are a bit old but functioning! I would suggest to purchase a cabin to be more comfortable.
"Ferry crossing"
Great crossing and had a pleasant surprise with the unexpected complementary breakfast that came with the bunk room. I was impressed by the service. Good value for money.
"perfect"
very professional
"old ship, technical problems on the return"
we travelled from Ancona to Split and return on august 2014 with Marko Polo. The ship is very old and there are just few toilets on board. Friendly staff and boarding process on time. On the return, due to a technical problem we left the port 6 hour late
"Ancona - Spalato"
We travelled from Ancona to Split and return. All good but the departure had 3 hours delay
"positive feedback"
I travelled from Ancona to Split with Jadrolinija on the 11/08- Departure at 21.00 with arrival at 06.00 in the morning. Departure on time. We are young guys so we slept on the floor without paying for the cabin, good services on board, nice staff. Great experience
"Trip from Split to Ancona"
The trip itself was very good. The staff were helpful and we were stoked with our seats. If I was to comment on the leniency of tickets, I would comment on the topic of allowing people who purchased standing seats to enter the section of those who purchased reserved seating. We are travelling for an extended period of time and are on a budget yet purchased reserved seating and paid extra for this. Although during our trip, customers who purchased standing seats woke me throughout the trip to see if anyone was using the seat next to me. As a customer I was not happy that people woke me during my sleep to take a 'free' reserved seat next to me. I paid £190 for myself and another person to sit on this ferry and was very unhappy to be awoken by people who paid nowhere near as much as me, to steal the free seat next to me. But I do thank the lady staff member that saw me shivering during the trip and tucked a blanket around me.
"not good"
good food, friendly staff, clean cabin. Unfortunately the ship is really old, dirty toilets in the common area that I couldn't have a shower. During the night crossing there were people all around drinking and screaming until late, early morning. So I paid for the cabin and I couldn't sleep well. I can'r recommend it
"regular"
Bathrooms and facilities extremely old and in bad conditions, there isn't any kind of surveillance at night to make people respect the resting of those passengers that have paid -expensive- for a cabin. People can drink on the deck and sleep lying on anywhere on the ship. Crossing Split-Ancona, July 24, 2014
"old ship but it's great"
the ship is a bit old, as you can see old forniture inside but still good looking, so my rate is not the best. Boarding time good. Jadrolinija staff very friendly and helpful. Good schedule on departure and arrival time, service on board very good. Bathrooms smelling due to the old ventilation system. Restaurant staff polite, friendly and professional. Good quality of food and reasonable prices. Considering the ship and services on board, the price should be 15% lower
"Great travel"
We had a great dinner in the restaurant and the staff were super friendly! we also had a nice drink with an amazing view- followed by the best sleep ive had during my trip! surprisingly the bunk beds were very comfortable!
