The passenger car ferry Express Skiathos was built in 1996 in Greece and is the smallest conventional ferry operated by Hellenic Seaways. Express Skiathos has a passenger capacity of 1390 passengers and can carry up to 184 cars in its garages. The ship has four outer decks which can be accessed by passengers wishing to take in a different view whilst travelling, on decks 1 and 2 there is plenty of outer seating available.
There are no cabins on board however seating is available to book in three different lounges, Economy class 1, Economy class 2 or A class. All lounges are equipped with a bar area to purchase refreshments from.

"Ferry from Glossa to Skiathos "
Booked ferry tickets via Direct Ferries - very straightforward process and received instant confirmation email. Able to check in online with ferry company so no need to collect tickets at port. Will definitely use this booking process again

Excellent value and efficiency. As a Brit watching (and being part of) the loading and unloading of the ferry is something else. Lots of waving Greeks with whistles but no one gets run over!

The ship was a little late, as was the ferry on the way to Skopelos. If you are timing to get to the airport etc, I would definitely get a much earlier ferry just to be safe. Other than that it was a quick journey and very cheap.
"Beware of delays and unscheduled stops"
For anyone who has a flight to catch in Skiathos and is travelling from Skopelos: be wary! Our 11.45 am ferry was late by 45 minutes and then took an unscheduled stop at the nearby island of Alonissos. We were scheduled to arrive at Skiathos at 1.45 pm. Actual arrival time was 3.00 pm.

Nothing wrong with the service (11.45 departure) - just a bit tight if you are catching a 4pm flight - it was windy so it was late arriving and being a departure day there was a long knock-on effect. 3/4hr late arrival and beware virtually no taxis the other end to the airport! We were first off and had the only taxi (5min drive to airport 10 Euros).

No issues, very busy on the larger ferry. Skycat5 from Skiathos to Alonnisos very nice. Larger ferry back and a bit chaotic although could sit up top rather than inside

On our trip from Skiathos to Volos all the passenger suitcases were piled up in a small area. As a result suitcases were crushed or falling on the floor. Our suitcase was damaged and we had to buy a new one for the flight back to the UK. When we asked the staff to allow passengers to use the other available areas for the suitcases, the staff were very rude and uncooperative. the ship sailed with over 30 min delay for no obvious reason. There was no announcement to notify the passengers of the delay in arrival and they did not make any effort to speed up so we could arrive on time. As a result of the delay we missed the bus we were planning to take and we had to take the next one, which was 2 hours later. The staff seem genuinely disinterested in offering a good customer experience.

Although only a short crossing of a couple of hours it was great, clean and comfortable surroundings and the couple of questions I asked were dealt with quickly and efficiently, definately use them again. 😀
"SKOPELOS 28 JUL - 11 AUG 17"
We used the Volos to Skopelos and return ferries which were both clean and had sufficient facilities. The departure from Volos on 28 Jul 17 was on time but delays crept in during the voyage due to insufficient time allowed for the unloading/loading of cars and passengers at Skiathos. The same for the return journey on 11 Aug 17. In addition, the crew did not manage the foot passengers well, leading to a delay in drivers returning to their cars; further exacerbating the unloading delay

"Skopelos to Alonissos ..."
Having spent our first week on Skopelos we travelled on to Alonissos on the 'big boat" ... a short trip, but enjoyable for the great view of Skopelos town, as we departed the harbour ... used the SuperCat6 for the return trip and onwards to Skiathos ... bit of a 'lumpy' crossing, but got us there on time ...

"Troublesome with the luggage on the return"
The trip to Skopelos with flying cat went very well, but the journey back to Skiathos was complicated. We were not shown where to put our luggage so we had to carry them up some very steep steps, very heavy and troublesome! Would wish for the staff to tell us where to put our bags, would've been a lot easier!

"Great ferry trip"
outward with the regular ferry from Skopelos to Alonissos, The Skiathos Express. Very neat and clean. Luggage could be left on the car deck so you do not have to climb with heavy suitcases. The boat arrived fifteen minutes late, but that was not a problem. It was a very nice trip on a calm sea. For the return journey, I, due to unforseen circumstances, changed the departure and travelled on board the direct Flying Cat 5 from Alonissos to Skiathos. It was an exciting experience. The ship was very neat, on time and well organised. Fixed seats. just like in an airplane. Only, a part of the journey (from Skopelos to Glossa) got really, really wild. You could not walk around without wobbling too much. We were immediately handed plastic bags by stewards. Very thoughtful. And all in all a very good, quick trip.

Great smooth trip via Alonysos, perfect end to our journey and on the return one of the staff members found my wifes sunglasses. Office staff in the booking office on Skopelos and Skiathos were very helpful and could speak excellent English. Will use next year for sure!

"Glorious sunset cruise"
The ship is lovely, it was such a fantastic day though that I can't comment on the facilities I spent the whole evening sitting out on the open deck, wind in my hair and having a wonderful time admiring the beauty of the route. My one tip for users would be that your e-mail is not your ticket - you have to exchange it at the office which is in a shop on the street opposite the port. This is not obvious, if like us you arrive on foot from the bus station side of Volos. Therefore having got on board and up the stairs I had to go back and exchange the e-mail for tickets - luckily we arrived with plenty of time so it was not an issue for us.

We travelled on the 16/08 from Skopelos to Skiathos. When you board the ferry the staff ask you to put all your luggages in a specific area. Someone stole our bags because no-one is controlling the area.
