Doused in students and young people, Vaasa is a city that is rife with things to do; the nightlife is frenetic, the city centre has a wealth of amenities and it lays home to one of the biggest water parks in Scandinavia. Tropiclandia is perhaps the standout attraction, drawing in many visitors spanning all age ranges – it can become particularly busy during the summer months so it may be worthwhile going around September to make the most of the plethora of rides. Aside from the park, Vaasa is drenched in historical and cultural landmarks; the Österbottens Museum and Terranova both provide an educational experience. If museums aren’t your thing, browse the aisles of the copious outlets in the three large shopping centres, offering bespoke items from around Finland and some bargain clothing from Sweden. After a day perusing the shops, head to one of the myriad of vibrant bars and bustling clubs offering the cocktail of fresh drinks amid a lively atmosphere.
The city centre is fairly compact and can be covered relatively easy on foot. For the tired and weary, there is an efficient bus system running through the city.
