Laced in enigmatic coves and picturesque grottoes, Ustica’s coastline displays one of the most beautiful images belonging to Italy. Such is the allure of the surrounding water, many visitors from Palermo and mainland Sicily travel to the island purely to dive in the pristine water hosting a wonderful array of flora and fauna. A few companies are in operation around the island, supplying qualified instructors and snorkelling equipment for the adventurous types keen on exploring the underwater caves. Although many purely visit Ustica to sample the natural beauty of the water, the rugged landscape around the shoreline is the perfect place to get lost amongst the myriad of vibrant colours and unique rock formations. The circumference of the island stretches to around ten miles, creating the perfect setting for a romantic stroll for couples. The island can become swarmed with tourists in the peak of summer, so to truly bask in the glorious aesthetics, it is worthwhile going around September time.
You can hire a rental bicycle to traverse the land on two wheels, though many simply choose to walk around the rocky terrain.
