The Danish village and port of Tars is located in Vendsyssel, in the northern part of Jutland and is part of the Hjorring Municipality and has roughly 2,000 residents. The village's name probably derives from the Nordic God, Thor, and was referred to in 1264 as Thorse, which could mean Thor's sanctuary. Vendsyssel is the most northerly district in both Jutland and of Denmark as a whole. It is separated from mainland Jutland by Limfjord and is a part of the North Jutland island.
At the village's ferry terminal car parking is available along with a ticket desk and ample space to wait for the ferry. Ferries departing from Tars can take foot passengers, cars, motorcycles, mopeds and bicycles and departs to Spodsbjerg on Langeland. The crossing time is around 45 minutes.
The Danish city of Spodsbjerg is located on the island of Langeland and is a small town that does not have a great deal of facilities to cater for tourists, with the exception of a small number of shops, cafes and a hotel. The ferry harbour provides visitors with a lovely view of vessels entering and leaving the harbour and is where the cafe is located. Also in the town is a child friendly beach which is a short distance to the south of the town. The town's economy has been centred on fishing for many decades but to augment its fishing harbour in 1994 a yacht harbour was built that has 180 berths. From the adjacent ferry harbour there are frequent sailings to Lolland. Fishing and Spodsbjerg are naturally connected and is where you will find one of the best fishing areas in Denmark.
Langeland island is located between the Great Belt and Bay of Kiel and has a land area of 285 sq. km and has a population of around 13,000. The island produces grain and is known as a recreational area. A bridge connects it to Tåsinge via Sio - a small island with a population of approx. 20 - and the main island of Funen to the north west.
Ferries from the town's harbour departs to Taars.
