Stewart Island Experience
Stewart Island Experience operate the daily ferry departures between Bluff on New Zealand’s South Island and Oban on Stewart Island with their express catamarans.
The ferry service operates all year round and takes about an hour to sail the 39 kilometres across the Foveaux Strait to Stewart Island reaching speeds of up to 20 knots. During the trip be sure to keep an eye out for wildlife, especially sea birds.
On board the modern ferries you’ll be treated to complimentary tea and coffee while other refreshments can be purchased too. You can take up to 2 bags of personal baggage per person for free (1 stowed and 1 small carry-on) with you.
Vehicle parking is available during the day and overnight (at a cost) adjacent to the Bluff ferry terminal for those travelling to Stewart Island by ferry. Coach Transfers are also available from Invercargill (year round), Queenstown & Te Anau (seasonal) to Bluff and can be requested during the booking process.
