Skikda Guide

What is there to do in Skikda?

Situated so close to Italy and France, there is a tinge of Europe in the lifestyle and diversity of Skikda; Italians and Maltesers used to dominate the population, yet since Algeria declared independence, the Muslim community has become prominent in the area. Over the past few decades, the port has become a hub of oil transportation and storage, with much revenue coming from the industry. Despite the influx of oil based companies, the town still attracts much tourism, especially for anyone with a penchant for fishing. Outside of the fishing ports, much of the appeal of Skikda comes from the ancient Rusicade site, showcasing the largest Roman theatre in Algeria. A local museum also offers an insight into the history of Algeria’s north coast.

How do you get around Skikda?

The town is very small and quiet, so most choose to cover it by foot, though you can get a taxi for quick and convenient transport.
