Boasting a population of just under 10,000 people, Sassnitz exudes a tranquil vibe, perfect for whiling away a few stress free days. There isn’t much to do in the coastal town other than wander around the picturesque scenery and drink a cup of coffee at the charming cafes. The town may lack attractions, but the one it can boast is mightily impressive; The Jasmund Konigsstuhl National Park is a mecca of breathtaking views from glorious mountainside, hosting myriad of challenging walking trails and endless verdant foliage. Head there when the sun is setting for a mesmerising photo to become the envy of your friends. The national park may bogart much of the limelight, but the U-Boat Museum is well worth a visit for anyone with a penchant for maritime history. The museum showcases the ships, submarines and sea life that has been spotted around the harbour; an added highlight is the tour of the submarine, providing an authentic underwater experience.
A bus service is in operation around the town, though the compact nature of the landmarks means it’s possible to cover much of Sassnitz by foot.
