Rottnest Express operate ferries between Rottnest Island and Perth (Barrack Street), Fremantle (B-Shed) and North Fremantle (Northport) whilst Rottnest Fast Ferries operate a service between Rottnest Island and Hillarys Boat Harbour, a northern suburb in Perth.
The fastest ferries to Rottnest Island take around 30 minutes from Fremantle, with ferries from Perth taking the longest with a duration of about 90 minutes.
The port is located at Thomson Bay in the island’s main settlement, just steps from a range of amenities.
Rottnest Island is a car-free island so the only way to reach the port is to walk, cycle or get a bus. There are buses operating between Thomson Bay, Geordie Bay, and Kingstown. If you want to cycle, there are places on the island where you can rent a bike.
All visitors to Rottnest Island are required to pay an admission fee. This is usually included in your ferry fare at the time of booking and collected by the ferry operators on behalf of Rottnest Island Authority.
Once you’ve stepped off the ferry, you’ll be in the heart of the main settlement of Thomson Bay, with amenities such as shops and cafes just a short stroll away. At Thomson Bay, you’ll be able to rent a bike to explore the island further. Alternatively, you can explore the island by bus with the island's hop-on-hop-off service.
You’ll find a range of amenities near the port including accessible toilets, showers, baby changing facilities and drinking water. Shops and cafes are also within walking distance.
Cars are not allowed on the island so there are no parking facilities available.
Unfortunately, pets are not allowed at the ferry port or on the island.
There is no luggage storage facility at Rottnest Island port. However, there are lockers available for hire at the back of the island's Visitor Centre.
