Popular attractions on the island include the Monastery of Episkopi which was first thought to be an ancient temple of the God Apollo but is now known to have the signs of Roman mausoleum architecture. It was built in the 3rd century AD and was modified to a Christian church, complete with a dome and bell tower, in the 17th century.
