Kalymnos has a bus service which connects Pothia to nearby towns, villages and beaches. Although buses aren't always regular, especially in the off-season. For a little more freedom, we’d recommend renting a car, scooter or quad bike. You can hire these from near the ferry port. Taxis are also available on the island, although these are usually more expensive.
Kalymnos port is located in the main town of Pothia (Chora) on the south of the island. The ferry port connects Kalymnos with the other Dodecanese islands as well as Piraeus, the main port in Athens. Ferry companies operating out of Kalymnos port include Blue Star Ferries, Dodecanese Seaways, SeaJets and SAOS Ferries. There is also a smaller port in Kalymnos located in Myrties which offers daily services to and from Telendos.
If you’re staying outside of Pothia, then the best way to reach the port is by car or scooter. There are also buses connecting the port with other villages on the island including Myrties and Vathi, although it’s best to check the bus timetable beforehand.
