Fynshav Ferry Port

The tranquil town of Fynshav is found on the verdant flatlands of Als Island, a wedge of land that protrudes from the south-eastern edge of mainland Denmark and into the glacial waters of the Little Belt strait. This rural community is surrounded by a mosaic of arable farmland and a coastal belt of woodland brimming with exotic wildlife found nowhere else in the country. It’s also an area held in high regard by campers for its blend of untouched landscape and crisp seaside air. The port of Fynshav is found at the end of the main road that skirts along the edge of town. The broad wharf, home to the local ferry terminal, is sheltered by two breakwaters that extend into the strait. The docking area by the port entrance has been separated into lanes to help coordinate incoming traffic and streamline the ferry boarding process. There are few other passenger facilities here save for an indoor waiting area and a short-stay car-park. Due to its central location in the populous Southern Denmark region, travelling to Fynshav is incredibly easy. The number 8 motorway that connects Als Island to the mainland leads directly from the town’s harbour towards the larger settlements along the country’s southern border, including the city of Sønderborg just under 10-miles away. A local bus service regularly travels along this route, taking passengers directly from a port-side stop to a station at the centre of Sønderborg. From here visitors can catch a train to the cosmopolitan capital of Copenhagen found close to the shores of Sweden. One ferry service currently operates from Fynshav port. An AlsFærgen line sails the short distance north to the village of Bojden on the Danish island of Funen. The ferry sails multiple times throughout the day, skimming passengers across the protected waters of the Little Belt strait known for its miscellany of rare birds from whooper swans to Arctic terns.
