Located in the Baltic Sea to the east of the Jutland Peninsular, the Danish island of Als has an area of around 124 sq. miles and has a population of 51,000. Fynshav, on the island of Als, is a must see destination for nature lovers. It is full of flora and fauna with the land dominated by hills and forests. The island's mild climate has made an ideal place for exotic plants to grow that are not found anywhere else in Denmark.
Als lies east off the Jutland Peninsula at the town of Sonderborg, and north of the German coast at Schleswig and includes the Sonderborg Municipality as of January 2007.
The ferry route from Bøjden on the west coast of Funen to Fynshav on the island of Als, makes it possible to take a shortcut from Funen to South Jutland and Germany without having to drive across The Little Belt Bridge. The ferry departs Bøjden or Fynshav every second hour, on the hour. However, in the daytime during the summer, two ferries operate the Bøjden-Fynshav route with hourly departures.
The small Danish town of Bojden, with its harbour, is located on Funen Island which is the second largest island in Denmark and lies between the island of Zealand and mainland Denmark (Jutland). The harbour caters from a number of different vessels including fishing boats, pleasure boats and ferries. Strolling around the harbour you will often see locals and visitors mixing well together and enjoying the town's lovely atmosphere. The island is characterised by rolling hills, hedgerows, orchards and half-timbered, thatched farmhouses and is sometime called Denmark's Garden Island.
The town is connected to the island of Als by a small car ferry that operates every hour during the day, with a crossing time of around 45 minutes, and is one of the most scenic ferry crossings in Denmark. The crossing is a pleasant shortcut if heading to Germany from the island of Fyn. Facilities onboard the ferry are limited, but include a small cafe where travellers can buy food and drinks.
