Dubrovnik Guide

Located on the Adriatic Sea coast, the Croatian city of Dubrovnik is in the Dalmatia region of the country. The city has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most visited destinations in the Mediterranean. One of the most popular sites in the city are its walls which stretch for almost 2 km around the city. The walls are between 4 to 6 meters thick on the landward side but are much thinner on the seaward side. The defensive intentions of the wall are characterised by the system of towers and turrets. The city's walls have been a popular filming location for the HBO series Game of Thrones who use the walls as the location for the fictional city of Kings Landing. Also in the city is its Baroque cathedral which was built in the 18th century and contains an impressive Treasury with relics of Saint Blaise.

Dubrovnik's Ferry Terminal is located in the Kantafig area of Gruž bay roughly 3 km from the Old Town. All ferries to and from Dubrovnik arrive and depart from here. Destinations served by the port include Bari, Rijeka, Split, Stari Grad, Korcula and Mijet.

Stari Grad Guide

Stari Grad is a popular location that is a gateway to the Paklenica National Park and lies around 45 km to the north east of Zadar. The city is situated on the northern side of the island of Hvar in the Dalmatia region of Croatia and lies at the east of a long protected bay and is thought to be one of the oldest towns in Europe. Buses make the town easy to reach, stopping in the centre, as well as outside of the Hotel Alan on the Dr. Franje Tudmana. Many people come to Stari Grad to take advantage of the plentiful camp sites there, especially since the adjacent National Park does not permit camping.

By wandering around Stari Grad's centre, along its narrow streets and through small squares, it is not hard to appreciate its historic past and perhaps its most popular attraction is Tvrdalj, which is a large a well preserved castle that once belonged to the Croatian poet Petar Hektorovic. Notice the Latin and Croatian inscriptions in the walls and the statue of Petar Hektorovic in front of the castle.

From the town's port, ferry services operate to Pescara, Ancona, Rijeka, Korcula, Dubrovnik and Mljet.
