Ajaccio Guide

What is there to do in Ajaccio?

Ajaccio is the capital of class and culture in Corsica; a casual confidence reverberates around the harbour, decorated in cosmopolitan bars laying host to the aristocrats from Southern France. The marina is slightly less busy in the daytime, though there will still be a number of tourists wandering from one trendy café to another, enjoying a cup of smooth coffee whilst looking out over the modestly designed houses emblazoned across the undulating landscape. Usually frequented by relatively wealthy families, Corsica is also a popular destination for a diverse mix of visitors, ranging from solo travellers to day-trippers from Marseille. Whilst modern day Ajaccio may be a picture of picturesque scenery, the town’s past is somewhat of a contrast; Napoleon Bonaparte was born here, evidenced by the array of street names, artefacts and museums dedicated to the powerful dictator. Bouncing between one museum to another, stopping for some sumptuous lunch in between, makes for a typical day in Ajaccio, topped off with a glass of wine or beer under the moonlight.

How do you get around Ajaccio?

Most choose to hire a rental car for the duration of their stay, however, some companies are harsh on the cleanliness of the vehicle, so make sure to clean it thoroughly before returning.
