Located on the Danish mainland of Jutland, 355 km from Copenhagen, is Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark with a population of 300,000.
Aarhus is very lively and friendly and offers everything from great green areas to the city centre, which is filled by 400 shops and the river, called ‘Åen’. ‘Åen’ is surrounded by a number of cafes and bars and during the summertime this is where most people gather, sitting at one of the many outdoor tables, or simply along the river with a drink. Here you can really pick up on the cities easy going and friendly atmosphere. In the city you will also find a wide number of museums and galleries, offering something for everyone’s taste.
Outside the city centre is Marselisborg Palace and Park, which is the summer residence of the Danish royal family. Surrounding the Palace are great green areas and parks, and here all is welcome.
Another park worth visiting is the Botanical Garden, a jungle of green oasis, and here people gather for picnics to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and the green space.
Isefjord, Kattergat and Sejerø Bay are surrounding Sjællands Odde, and give the place an atmosphere of being a pleasant fishing area.
Experience the smokehouse, the little fishing boats, the dockyard, the fish sale and the anglers. The smokehouse is the sign of the world famous architect Arne Jacobsen.
This area covers several towns; Yderby, which is a little town with few houses and a windmill, Odden Port town with a little fishing port, and yderby Lyng, were you can find the daily groceries.
The south of the area has good beaches, while the north is more rocky, but you will find a few sand beaches there.
The landscape on Sjællands Odde is dominated by fields, cliffs and the sea views.
